What awful timing for Pouliot, who has been a steal for Montreal since coming over in a trade from Minnesota. Pouliot had totaled nine goals and 12 points in his last 15 games. He was becoming a solid Fantasy start. Now, he needs to be kept reserved through Week 19 (Feb. 8-14). (Updated 02/07/2010).

Waiver Wire: Bullish on Benoit in Montreal
Benoit Pouliot was a major disappointment since being taken fourth overall in 2005, but he seems to finally be hitting his stride with the Canadiens. Our Michael Hurcomb touches on that and more in his Playing the Waiver Wire.

| Fantasy owners as well as hockey gurus have waited patiently for Wild forward Benoit Pouliot to develop as a pro after he was the taken fourth overall in the 2005 NHL draft. There is no denying Pouliot has all the talents to be a top-line forward. He is an explosive skater with a good handle on the puck. He also has a hard, accurate shot. The knock on him has always been his work ethic and attitude, as well has his overall consistency and his nonchalant defensive approach. Perhaps a fresh start under offensive-mind coach Todd Richards will light a fire under Pouliot, who re-signed in the offseason. Pouliot had five goals and 11 points in 37 games with the Wild last season -- his most extensive NHL action. He remains a decent long-term keeper, but is merely a Fantasy sleeper heading into the 2009-10 season. (Updated 8/20/09) |
