Danis drops start as Devils shut out: New Jersey was blanked by the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday as the offense couldn't get anything going against Jean-Sebastien Giguere. New Jersey goalie Yann Danis allowed one goal per period in the 3-0 loss. Danis stopped 23 shots in the loss but the three goals he allowed were more than enough for the Maple Leafs to get the shutout win. (Updated 02/02/2010).

Danis saw his first start in February after making three in January. He is nothing but a handcuff to Martin Brodeur in Fantasy and since he doesn't play often enough, he has low-end Fantasy appeal. The TG Devils remain a must-start Fantasy play. (Updated 02/02/2010).

Senators blank Devils for seventh win in row
Brian Elliott earned his third shutout, Alex Kovalev, Milan Michalek and Jason Spezza scored, and the Ottawa Senators extended their winning streak to seven games with a 3-0 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday.

| When the 2008-09 season began, goalie Yann Danis probably figured he was headed for another season in the AHL after not appearing in the NHL since making his debut for the Canadiens in 2005-06. But his world was turned upside down after Islanders starting goalie Rick DiPietro couldn't overcome knee problems. Danis spent most of the early season as a seldom-used backup to Joey MacDonald, but once MacDonald went down with injury in mid-January, Danis stepped into a full-time role for a few weeks. He would end up splitting time down the stretch with MacDonald and Peter Mannino, but Danis had the most extensive work in his NHL career. He led the Islanders in goals-against average (2.86) and save percentage (.910), and established new career highs in games played (31), minutes (1,760), saves (849), wins (10) and shutouts (2). Despite his superhero-like effort to bail out New York in times of adversity, the Islanders chose not to re-sign Danis in the offseason. He then made the short trip to New Jersey and will now back up Martin Brodeur in 2009-10. It's not a glamorous job since Brodeur starts most nights, but it keeps Danis in the NHL. Consider him a flier in leagues that use average points per game and handcuff option for Brodeur owners. (Updated 8/18/09) |
