Avs' Stastny Pots Pair Of Goals Thursday

News: Paul Stastny found the back of the net twice Thursday in a 4-2 win over Vancouver. It was his third two-goal game of the year.
Analysis: The Avs' assistant captain has been on a roll since returning from a back injury, piling up 12 points in his last nine games. Paul Stastny has heated up at just the right time, with his strong play helping the Avs emerge victorious in eight of their last nine games without leading scorer Matt Duchene. The fact that his 60 points -- his most since 2009-10 -- are only good for fifth on the team speaks volumes as to how far this team has come in just one season under coach Patrick Roy.

Stastny Has Huge Afternoon In Avs' Win

News: Paul Stastny potted a goal and added two assists in Saturday's 4-0 win over the Blues.
Analysis: The St. Louis native dominated his hometown team throughout the afternoon, scoring his 22nd goal on a power play in the second period and assisting on the team's final two goals of the night. The 28-year-old has contributed at least one point in six consecutive games.

Avs' Stastny Helps Out In Win

News: Paul Stastny assisted on both of Gabriel Landeskog's goals in Tuesday's shootout victory over Nashville.
Analysis: Those points pushed Paul Stastny's season total to 50 -- the fourth time in the last four non-lockout-shortened seasons that he's reached that mark. Though he's been fairly susceptible to injury in his career, there's no doubt that Stastny is an accomplished playmaker whenever he's on the ice.

Avs' Stastny Will Return To Action Friday

News: Paul Stastny will be in the lineup Friday night against the Bruins.
Analysis: Paul Stastny returned on Tuesday following a four-game absence, but sat out in Wednesday's game, likely as a result of coach Patrick Roy not being quite ready to use him on two consecutive nights. He appears to be healthy moving forward, but it wouldn't be overly shocking to see the Avalanche exercise caution for future back-to-back sets.

Avs' Stastny To Sit Out Wednesday

News: Paul Stastny will not play Wednesday vs. the Jets, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: After missing the previous four games, Paul Stastny returned to the ice Tuesday against the Canadiens, notching an assist in the team's 6-3 defeat. It doesn't sound like he aggravated the injury Tuesday night, so Stastny's absence Wednesday just looks to be the case where coach Patrick Roy didn't want the center playing in back-to-back games right away.

Avs' Stastny Back In Business

News: Paul Stastny (back) will play in Tuesday's game against the Canadiens, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Paul Stastny, who last played on March 8, checks back into the Avs' lineup Tuesday with 47 points in 58 games.

Avs` Stastny Practiced Monday; Nearing Return

News: Paul Stastny (back) was a full participant in Colorado`s one-hour practice Monday in Montreal, the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Coach Patrick Roy added that clarification will be provided Tuesday morning as to whether or not Paul Stastny will make his return Tuesday night. The Avs have fared well in their assistant captain`s absence - winning three-of-four while finding twine 13 times - but would prefer to have he and his team-high 53.8 faceoff percentage back sooner than later. Check back Tuesday before puck drop for an update on his status.

Avs' Stastny Could Play Tuesday

News: Paul Stastny (back) could be a lineup possibility for Tuesday's game vs. the Canadiens, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: The Avalanche have given Paul Stastny the last four games off while he tends to a back injury, but it sounds like he could be closing in on a return. There's been no word if he's rejoined his teammates on the ice for practices since first sustaining the injury, but a firmer determination on his status could be made following Tuesday's morning skate.

Avs' Stastny Doubtful For Sunday

News: Paul Stastny (back) is doubtful for Sunday's game in Ottawa but is traveling on the Avs' upcoming three-game road trip, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Paul Stastny is not expected to play in the first of three road games, but he should have a better shot to return Tuesday in Montreal or Wednesday in Winnipeg. Jamie McGinn's fantasy owners have benefited from Stastny's absence, with McGinn recently skating alongside Matt Duchene and Ryan O'Reilly on the Avs' first line.

Avs' Stastny Remains Sidelined Friday

News: Paul Stastny (back) will miss his third straight game Friday when the Avalanche host the suddenly slumping Ducks - losers of their last four - at Pepsi Center, 9NEWS Sports Denver reports.
Analysis: The Avs could be in tough without their veteran center against Anaheim, who will be out for blood after suffering an embarrassing 7-2 loss at home to the 26th-place Flames last time out. Colorado has fared well in Paul Stastny's absence - knocking off Chicago and Winnipeg - but the team is bound to miss his 0.81 points and 18:00 of ice time per game sooner or later. There is still no timetable for Stastny's return, so you may want to check out one of his available teammates if you need help up front. Jamie McGinn anyone? He's been seeing time on the Avs' top line since Stastny went down and could help fill your scoring void.

Avs' Stastny Unlikely To Play Friday

News: Coach Patrick Roy said he'd be "very surprised" if Paul Stastny (back) played Friday vs. the Ducks, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Paul Stastny has already missed the previous two games with back spasms and doesn't appeared to have made much progress in his recovery in spite of the time off. Fantasy owners should stash him on their bench until more optimism surfaces about a potential return.

Avs' Stastny Will Not Play Wednesday

News: Paul Stastny (back) will not play Wednesday against the Blackhawks, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Though Paul Stastny will miss his second straight game due to the back issues, coach Patrick Roy indicated the forward has made some level of progress in the last couple of days and could be an option Friday vs. the Ducks. In the meantime, Brad Malone and Paul Carey have been summoned from AHL Lake Erie to beef up the forward depth while Stastny and P.A. Parenteau (knee) remain unavailable.

Avs Rule Out Stastny For Monday's Game

News: Paul Stastny (back) will not play Monday against the Jets.
Analysis: The Avs are officially listing Paul Stastny as day-to-day after he left Saturday's game with a back issue and wasn't present at Monday's morning skate. The team will try to get by with defenseman Nick Holden skating as the 12th forward, but should Stastny's injury linger deeper into this week, a forward call-up from the minors would grow more likely.

Avs' Stastny Dealing With Back Issue

News: The Avs did not update Paul Stastny's (back) status Sunday, the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: The report adds that Paul Stastny tweaked his back in Saturday's game against the Blues, while suggesting that the Avs aren't slated to update the forward's status until Monday, which clouds his status for the team's evening tilt against the Jets later that day.

Avs’ Stastny Doubtful To Return Saturday

News: Paul Stastny left Saturday's game versus the Blues with a back injury and is doubtful to return, the official Twitter feed of the Colorado Avalanche reports.
Analysis: Paul Stastny spent just 0:40 on the ice before leaving Saturday's matinee division showdown with the Blues. He has dealt with back issues in the past, so the Avalanche are likely being extra cautious with their star center. Stastny is an integral piece of the Avs' top-six forward group and any extended absence would undoubtedly have a major impact on the team's offense. More info to come.

Avs' Stastny Staying In Denver

News: Although a contract extension has not yet been reached, Paul Stastny was not dealt by Wednesday's trade deadline and will remain with the Avalanche. Stastny also went on record saying he would "absolutely" give the Avs a hometown discount on a new contract, according to The Denver Post.
Analysis: Avs fans and Paul Stastny owners can officially exhale. It was widely believed that Colorado would be forced to move their veteran center at the trade deadline if they couldn't ink an extension to his expiring contract. The Avs brass feel they have something special with their group, who earned their 40th win of the season Tuesday in Chicago, and for chemistry's sake chose to not move a single roster player at the deadline. They also understand the risk of giving away Stastny for free if he choses to test free agency next summer, but for now will cross their fingers with hopes he will re-up before then. In the mean time, they'll set their sights on Lord Stanley and you can count on Stastny to add to his 47-point total along the way.

Avs' Stastny Reaches 20-Goal Mark

News: Paul Stastny scored an empty-net goal to seal Tuesday's win over Chicago, giving him 20 on the year.
Analysis: That makes goals in three straight and points in five straight for Paul Stastny, who doesn't seem to be affected by swirling trade rumors. This season marks the sixth time he's reached the 20-goal mark.

Avs' Pending UFA Stastny Could Be Dealt

News: Paul Stastny could by moved by Wednesday's trade deadline if he and the Avalanche can't reach a contract extension by then, the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: This comes as a bit of a surprise given the prominent role the U.S. Olympian has played in the success of the young Avalanche this season. Of course, the nightmare scenario for GM Joe Sakic would be to net nothing in return for the pending unrestricted free agent if he walks on July 1, so the pressure to get a deal done is rising. He'd likely have to take a pay cut from his current salary of $6.6 million to stay in Denver, as franchise cornerstone Matt Duchene and captain Gabe Landeskog inked long-term deals last summer for $6 million and $5.5 million, respectively. It's unclear now what Colorado could fetch for Paul Stastny in a deadline deal, but Avs fans and Stastny owners alike should hold their breath and hope he signs soon. The danger of upsetting the chemistry of the Avs' forward corps could be costly.

Avs' Stastny Nets Game-Winner Friday

News: Paul Stastny scored the game-winning goal and added an assist Friday as the Avalanche downed the Coyotes, 4-2.
Analysis: Paul Stastny is showing signs of revitalization this season. He now has 44 points in 54 games -- including seven in his last seven -- and has clearly benefited from playing with a slew of dynamic youngsters, including his current linemates Gabe Landeskog and Nate MacKinnon. He is still unlikely to surpass the 78 points he racked up in his rookie season, but the eighth-year pro is playing his best hockey in years.

Two Goals For Avs' Stastny In Olympic Opener

News: Paul Stastny potted two goals for Team USA in their 7-1 demolition of Slovakia on Thursday.
Analysis: The game had to be of some personal significance to Paul Stastny since his father, Peter, was a former member of the Slovak national team during his NHL career. His two tallies were part of a six-goal barrage in the second period that allowed the Americans to win this one rather easily.

Avs' Stastny To Play Tuesday

News: Paul Stastny (ankle) will be in the lineup Tuesday against the Rangers, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: A game-time decision for the second time over the last three contests, Paul Stastny received clearance to play Tuesday after being held out on the previous occasion. He'll man the top-line center spot for the Avs, flanked by Gabriel Landeskog and P.A. Parenteau.

Avs' Stastny Questionable For Tuesday

News: Paul Stastny (ankle) is listed as questionable for Tuesday's tilt with the Rangers, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: The Avalanche elected not to hold a morning skate Tuesday following Monday's draining overtime victory over the Devils, preventing an update on Paul Stastny's status from being provided. Stasty has been a spectator for the last two games, and he would probably need a quality pregame skate for coach Patrick Roy to include him in the lineup Tuesday.

Avs' Stastny Out Again Monday

News: Paul Stastny (ankle) will be out of the lineup Monday against the Devils, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: The Avalanche haven't ruled out Paul Stastny for the entirety of their four-game road trip prior to the Olympic break, but he'll at least be out of action Monday. Stastny appeared close to playing Saturday after taking part in pregame warmups before being scratched, so a Tuesday return wouldn't be completely surprising.

Avs' Stastny Will Not Play Saturday

News: Paul Stastny (ankle) will not play Saturday against the Sabres, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Paul Stastny was a true game-time decision Saturday, as he was on the ice for most of pregame warmups and looked on track to return to the lineup before he was made a late scratch. Ryan Wilson will take his spot in the lineup as the Avalanche look to get by with seven defensemen and 11 forwards.

Avs' Statsny Out Of Practice Friday

News: Paul Stastny (ankle) will not practice Friday for the Avalanche.
Analysis: Paul Stastny suffered an ankle injury in Thursday's game against the Wild. He scored his 16th goal of the season before suffering the injury. He is officially listed as day-to-day by Colorado and his status for Saturday's game against the Sabres should be considered questionable.
