Pens' Malkin Continues Rampage

News: Evgeni Malkin potted a pair of goals and added an assist Sunday against the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Two of his points, including a goal and an assist, came courtesy of the power play. Evgeni Malkin now has five goals and 10 points in his last five contests, moving to within one point of the NHL lead. Malkin and teammate Sidney Crosby both have 64 points.

Pens' Malkin With Second Straight Three-Point Game

News: Evgeni Malkin tallied three assists -- including one on the power play -- in a 4-3 victory over Washington on Wednesday.
Analysis: Evgeni Malkin was arguably the best player on the ice in a matchup featuring some of the league's brightest stars. The centerman now has three goals and eight points during a four-game point streak. For the season, Malkin has scored 24 goals and 61 points in 56 contests.

Malkin Leads Pens To Sunday Victory

News: Evgeni Malkin scored two goals and added a power-play assist Sunday, registering his first three-point game since Nov. 26.
Analysis: Fantasy owners are giving thanks for the much-needed production from Evgeni Malkin, who now has three goals and five points during a three-game point streak. Both of his goals came on backhanders and his first tally came with 27 ticks remaining in the second period -- a goal which stood as Malkin's fourth game-winner of the season.

Malkin Scores Pens' Lone Goal Thursday

News: Evgeni Malkin scored his third goal in his last eight games Thursday.
Analysis: The five shots on goal represent his highest total since returning from a groin injury. Evgeni Malkin played the left point on Pittsburgh's No. 1 power play late in the third period as the team deployed both Malkin and Sidney Crosby together. Surprisingly, the star centerman is still looking for his first assist since Jan. 20.

Pens' Malkin Looking To Get Off The Snide

News: Evgeni Malkin has two points in seven games since returning from a groin injury.
Analysis: The centerman also holds a disastrous 39-64 mark (37.9 percent) in the faceoff circle over that span. Evgeni Malkin seems set with linemates Blake Comeau and Patric Hornqvist at even strength, but he's toiled on the team's No. 2 PP unit the last two games. He'll look for a turnaround game Thursday versus the Blue Jackets, against whom he's scored three goals and 10 points in 8 career contests.

Malkin Serves On Pens' Second Power-Play On Sunday

News: The Penguins split up Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin on the top power-play unit against the Blackhawks, with Malkin moving to a second unit.
Analysis: Coach Mike Johnston is trying anything to jumpstart a power play that scored more goals (19) in its first 11 games than in its last 45 (17). Evgeni Malkin, who has netted only two goals in six games since returning from a groin injury, looked invisible at times Sunday in Chicago.

Pens' Malkin Finding His Touch?

News: Evgeni Malkin scored his second goal in five games Thursday since returning from a groin injury.
Analysis: The line of Evgeni Malkin, Blake Comeau and Patric Hornqvist has stuck together for two games and looked good. Malkin has just four power-play points (all assists) in his last 24 games, however, as the team's power play continues to struggle. He sits 11th in scoring with 53 points (21G, 22A) in 50 games.

Pens' Malkin Scores In Win

News: Evgeni Malkin potted a goal in Wednesday's 2-0 win over the Oilers.
Analysis: Evgeni Malkin is once again a 20-goal scorer, and currently ranks sixth in the NHL with 52 points through 46 games. Wednesday's tally was also the game winning goal, which was Malkin's third on the season.

Pens' Malkin With Game-Winner Wednesday

News: Evgeni Malkin returned from a groin injury Wednesday and netted his 20th goal of the season in a 2-0 win against the Oilers.
Analysis: Two of his three game-winning goals in 2014-15 have come in shutouts. Pittsburgh did not receive one power-play opportunity, limiting Evgeni Malkin's chances to do further damage. He set up linemate, Mark Arcobello, on numerous occasions without result. Hopefully the Russian will eventually play with forwards better suited for his skill level.

Pens' Malkin Confirmed To Play Wednesday

News: Coach Mike Johnston confirmed that Evgeni Malkin (groin) would be activated from injured reserve to play Wednesday against the Oilers.
Analysis: Evgeni Malkin had been expected all along to return Wednesday from a five-game absence, but the coaching staff wanted to see him participate in the team's morning skate before declaring him good to go. The 28-year-old will immediately reclaim his gig as the Pens' second-line center, though he'll have new mates in Mark Arcobello and Patric Hornqvist flanking him on both sides. Malkin has been stellar as usual this season, notching 19 goals and 32 assists over 45 games.

Pens' Malkin Looks To Play Wednesday

News: Evgeni Malkin (lower body) expects to play as soon as Wednesday in Edmonton.
Analysis: Barring any setbacks in practice with his groin injury, Evgeni Malkin will return against the Oilers. Make sure to activate him in weekly leagues.

Pens' Malkin Skates Saturday, But Still Out Sunday

News: Evgeni Malkin (lower body) resumed skating Saturday morning, Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Per the Post-Gazette's Shelly Anderson, Evgeni Malkin is dealing with a groin injury. While he seemed to be encouraged by Saturday's session, he has already ruled himself out for Sunday's tilt with Nashville. On a more positive note, Malkin does plan to travel with the team for its road trip beginning Wednesday in Edmonton, and it stands to reason he'll be available immediately if he endures no further setbacks during his subsequent practices. The Penguins have been using Brandon Sutter as their second-line center during Malkin's absence.

Pens' Malkin Could Return Next Week

News: If Evgeni Malkin (lower body) skates over the weekend, then he will probably accompany the team on its West Coast road trip.
Analysis: "That's going to be the key thing, whether the trainers clear (Evgeni Malkin) to get on the ice or not," coach Mike Johnston said. Pittsburgh travels to Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver next week.

Pens' Malkin Not Expected Back This Week

News: The Pens won't know Evgeni Malkin's (lower body) status until he skates, something which he's not expected to do for "three or four days, for sure," according to coach Mike Johnston.
Analysis: It seems safe to rule out Evgeni Malkin for Pittsburgh's upcoming four-game week, which starts Tuesday against Winnipeg. Malkin and Sidney Crosby are tied for the team lead in points with 51.

Pens Place Malkin On Injured Reserve

News: Evgeni Malkin (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Monday, Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Evgeni Malkin's move to injured reserve is retroactive to Jan. 20, which will enable him to return to action at any point after Tuesday's game against the Jets. He remains without a concrete timetable at this point, but the team should provide an update on the 28-year-old once he resumes skating.

Pens' Malkin (Lower Body) Out For All-Star Game

News: Evgeni Malkin (lower body) has been ruled out for the All-Star Game and has no timetable for a return.
Analysis: Evgeni Malkin suffered the injury during the second period of Tuesday's game against the Flyers and was ruled out from playing in Wednesday's match against the Blackhawks after testing his injury during warmups. After the team's medical staff reviewed his condition Thursday, it's now looking like Malkin's absence could extend beyond the break, potentially creating a major void in the Pittsburgh lineup. If Malkin does indeed miss further games due to the injury, Brandon Sutter would likely step in as the Pens' new second-line center.

Penguins' Malkin (Lower Body) Sidelined

News: Evgeni Malkin (lower body) will not participate in this weekend's NHL All-Star Game, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: Moreover, the report indicates that Evgeni Malkin will probably miss time beyond the NHL's All-Star break due to his unspecified lower-body injury. "With (Malkin), he won't be ready to play right after the break," according to GM Jim Rutherford. "It's probably an injury that will take a little time to heal." Rutherford further added that the Penguins should have a better read on Malkin's post-break status once the team regroups on Monday.

Pens' Malkin (Undisclosed) A Late Scratch

News: Updating a previous report, Evgeni Malkin (undisclosed) will be scratched for Wednesday's tilt with the Blackhawks, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: Evgeni Malkin had been listed on the second line, per the Penguins' official Twitter account, but it now appears he'll sit this one out. He apparently failed to complete his pregame warmups, so the Pens will take a cautious approach here, allowing Malkin to join Kris Letang and Simon Despres on the scratch list. His next chance to return to the ice will come Tuesday against the Jets.

Pens' Malkin (Undisclosed) Appears Good To Go

News: Evgeni Malkin (undisclosed) is listed on the Pens' second line in advance of Wednesday's contest with the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Evgeni Malkin was considered a game time decision after suffering an apparent injury in Tuesday's contest, but it doesn't look like it will force him to miss time. He'll skate alongside Nick Spaling and Beau Bennet.

Pens' Malkin Iffy For Wednesday's Game

News: Evgeni Malkin (undisclosed) is a question mark for Wednesday's game against the Blackhawks, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports.
Analysis: Evgeni Malkin required a trip to the locker room during Tuesday's physical clash with the Flyers, but returned to the ice soon thereafter. However, he looked to be a bit hobbled and didn't skate after the 15:55 mark of the third period. The team's training staff will likely see how his body responded overnight before rendering a decision on his status before warmups.

Malkin Hurt, Returns For Pens On Tuesday

News: Evgeni Malkin tallied an assist and seven shots in a 3-2 OT loss to Philadelphia on Tuesday.
Analysis: He missed part of the game after appearing to hurt his ankle but returned without further incident. Evgeni Malkin leads Pittsburgh with 19 goals and 51 points in 45 games.

Pens' Malkin Picks Up Two More Points

News: Evgeni Malkin recorded his fourth multipoint effort in five games Tuesday, tallying two assists against Minnesota.
Analysis: With 49 points (19G, 30A), Evgeni Malkin has moved into second place in the NHL scoring race, three points behind Philadelphia's Jakub Voracek. He also features a 14.6 shooting percentage, nearly mirroring his 14.7 mark accomplished during his Art Ross Trophy run in 2011-12. Malkin is healthy, confident and playing his best hockey in several years. He's doing this despite a revolving door of linemates -- currently Beau Bennett and Nick Spaling are skating with him at even strength.

News: Evgeni Malkin potted his 17th goal and set-up Sidney Crosby's game-winning overtime goal Saturday against the Canadiens.
Analysis: He now has a hand in all four of Pittsburgh's goals in the last two games. Evgeni Malkin, who recently stated he's the healthiest he's been since his MVP season, has four multipoint efforts in his last eight games.

Pens' Malkin Adds Goal, Assist In Win

News: Evgeni Malkin picked up a goal and an assist in Wednesday's overtime loss to the Bruins.
Analysis: The center factored in on both of his team's goals Wednesday, giving him multiple points in two of his last three games. With 18 goals and 27 assists through 40 games this season, Evgeni Malkin is an elite fantasy center once again.

Pens' Malkin Snaps Slump Friday

News: Evgeni Malkin registered his 17th goal and added an assist Friday in a 6-3 win over the Lightning.
Analysis: The goal was just Evgeni Malkin's second in his last 12 contests. His two-point night was even more impressive considering he played with Andrew Ebbett and Bryan Rust for much of the game. Coach Mike Johnston returned him to the center position after he skated left wing with Sidney Crosby on Thursday -- the Pens coach said he prefers the three center model which includes Crosby, Malkin and Sutter up the middle (when healthy). Malkin recorded a power-play assist in a 4-0 win in Montreal on Nov. 18th -- Pittsburgh's opponent Saturday night.
