Pens' Malkin Twice Called For Diving Saturday

News: Evgeni Malkin, who saw his six-game point streak end Saturday, was twice called for embellishment penalties against Florida.
Analysis: The league will review the penalty infractions -- one of which appeared questionable -- before deciding whether to fine him. Evgeni Malkin hit a post Saturday but came up empty after five shots on goal. He remains Pittsburgh's leading point-getter with 38 points (15G, 23A).

Malkin In Top-Six Form Saturday

News: Evgeni Malkin tallied his 21st assist, scored a shootout goal, finished plus-2 and registered four shots Saturday.
Analysis: Evgeni Malkin now leads the team in scoring -- he has one more point than Sidney Crosby (36 to 35). He's also the only Pittsburgh top-six forward to play in all 29 games -- remarkable considering he missed the entire preseason with an undisclosed injury.

Malkin Sans Crosby Does Just Fine For Pens

News: Evgeni Malkin tallied a pair of assists, finished with a plus-2 rating and registered four shots on goal Friday.
Analysis: With Sidney Crosby in the lineup, Evgeni Malkin has averaged .44 goals per game and 1.19 points per game, respectively, and .58 goals/gm and 1.35 points/gm without him. The Pens will look toward Malkin once again Saturday with Crosby already ruled out in Columbus.

Pens' Malkin Way Ahead Of Goal Pace

News: Evgeni Malkin scored his fourth goal in three games Monday against the Rangers.
Analysis: He picked up his game in the third period and helped to give the Pens a hard-earned road point. Evgeni Malkin registered five shots, his highest total since he took six shots at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 11. He now has 33 points (15G, 18A) in 27 games. Malkin didn't score his 15th goal until Jan. 30 in his 43rd game in 2013-14.

Pens' Malkin Picking Up Goals Even After Games

News: A scoring change after Saturday's game gave Evgeni Malkin a second goal against the Senators.
Analysis: The goal was initially credited to Brandon Sutter, but Evgeni Malkin and his fantasy owners will gladly accept the additional point. He now has 14 goals and 32 points in 26 contests for the Pens.

Position Change Fails To Slow Pens' Malkin

News: Evgeni Malkin potted his 13th goal of the year Saturday, an unassisted effort which gave Pittsburgh an early 1-0 lead against the Sens.
Analysis: He skated as a winger with the Pens short-handed due to injuries, but that didn't stop him from netting his sixth goal in the last eight games. Evgeni Malkin also picked up two PIM and two shots on goal while finishing with a plus-1 rating against Ottawa.

Malkin Will Wing It Saturday For Pens

News: Evgeni Malkin will begin Saturday's matinee at left wing with Brandon Sutter (center) and Blake Comeau (right wing) serving as his linemates.
Analysis: Along with three others, Evgeni Malkin leads the NHL with seven power-play goals. He has 12 goals and 30 points in 25 games despite playing with different linemates throughout the season.

Malkin Leads Pens To Victory Tuesday

News: Evgeni Malkin scored the only goal in Tuesday's 1-0 blanking of the Devils.
Analysis: He took four shots and compiled a plus-1 rating. Evgeni Malkin also registered 16 PIM -- including a late-third-period misconduct -- for his highest penalty-minute total since May 31, 2009, when he collected 19 PIM against Detroit in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final.

Pens' Malkin Has Big Night In Win On Wednesday

News: Evgeni Malkin contributed a power-play goal and two assists in a 4-3 overtime win against the Leafs on Wednesday.
Analysis: Evgeni Malkin has been an absolute beast this season having 28 points (11G, 17A) in 21 games, which is good for 3rd in the NHL scoring race. He is riding a six game point streak which has seen him collect 11 points over that span. Malkin has always played well against the Leafs in his career, averaging 1.8 points per game. So the three point night came as no surprise. Barring injury, Malkin will again compete for the NHL scoring lead, putting up an 80+ point season with ease.

Malkin Wins It For Pens On Monday

News: Evgeni Malkin potted a pair of goals Monday -- including his season's first game-winner in OT -- against the Bruins.
Analysis: Evgeni Malkin, who saw time at even strength with Chris Kunitz, now has four goals and eight points in five games. Interestingly, Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang assisted on both of his goals. It took Malkin just 22 contests to score his 10th goal; last year, it took him 33 games to do the same. The scary thing is that Malkin has yet to play his best hockey this year.

Pens' Malkin Sets Up Two Goals On Friday

News: Evgeni Malkin tallied a pair of assists Friday against the Islanders.
Analysis: The center endured a third-period knee-on-knee collision with the Isles' Johnny Boychuk but stayed in the contest. Evgeni Malkin now has five points (1G,4A) in his last three games and seems to have finally found some chemistry with linemate Patric Hornqvist. Five of his last six points have come at even strength.

Pens' Malkin: Two-Point Game Saturday

News: Evgeni Malkin registered a goal and assist in Saturday's shootout win over the Rangers.
Analysis: Whether he's been deployed on the wing or at center this season, Evgeni Malkin has been as a productive as expected, as he's tallied 19 points in 16 games. He's only sitting on a minus-2 rating for the season, but that's mostly a byproduct of the Penguins generating a significant portion of their offense on the power play.

Pens' Malkin Makes It Six Saturday

News: Evgeni Malkin scored his sixth goal Saturday, pointing for the 12th time in 13 games.
Analysis: The goal was encouraging if for no other reason than it was Evgeni Malkin's first at even strength. The offensive production between Malkin and his linemates, Pascal Dupuis and Blake Comeau, has cooled off recently. Even though the goal came with Pittsburgh already up 5-1, it could help boost the team's second-line confidence.

Pens' Malkin Runs Low on Jet Fuel Thursday

News: Evgeni Malkin saw his point streak to start the season end at 11 games Thursday night in Winnipeg.
Analysis: The center finished minus-2 with five shots but tallied Pittsburgh's first shootout score against the Jets. Evgeni Malkin will get a chance to start a new streak Saturday when the Pens travel to Buffalo. Malkin scored a goal and two assists last Saturday in Pittsburgh against the Sabres.

Pens' Malkin Making It Look Easy

News: Evgeni Malkin extended his point streak to 10 games Saturday, potting a goal and two assists against the Sabres.
Analysis: He started his career with goals in his first six games, but the 10-game run is his longest to start as season. The Penguins play three road games in Week 5, but Pittsburgh's power play is proving hard to stop anywhere. Evgeni Malkin finished with a goal and an assist on the man advantage Saturday.

Pens' Malkin Healthy, Happy & Pointing

News: Evgeni Malkin, who enters Saturday with points in all nine games, is completely healthy after missing the entire training camp, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
Analysis: "I feel so much better," Evgeni Malkin said. "Nothing's sore. I'm in great shape, too. Nine games have helped me get in shape, too. It feels good to play on this team." In addition to four goals and 12 points, fantasy owners have been rewarded with eight power-play points and a player who likely qualifies at both right wing and center.

Points Continue To Flow For Pens' Malkin

News: Evgeni Malkin extended his scoring streak (4G, 7A) to eight games with a power-play goal Tuesday.
Analysis: Evgeni Malkin has scored four goals in eight games after totaling three goals in his first 22 contests a year ago. All four of his scores have come courtesy of the man advantage, another bonus for fantasy owners.

Pens' Malkin Makes It Seven Saturday

News: Evgeni Malkin extended his point streak (3G, 7A) to seven games with a power-play goal Saturday against the Predators.
Analysis: After the game, Evgeni Malkin commented how center is "my position." It's possible that he wasn't terribly happy serving as a right winger the first two weeks of the season, but now he's home. Malkin has had to make a number of adjustments since last season after the team traded his linemate and friend, James Neal. He also missed the entire preseason with an undisclosed injury. If indeed he's just now finding his comfort level, then look out, the rest of the league.

Pens Looking For Malkin In The Middle

News: Evgeni Malkin skated as a second-line center with wingers Pascal Dupuis and Blake Comeau for Saturday's game-day practice.
Analysis: Pittsburgh used the Russian as a center Thursday in Detroit and it appears his time as an early-season right winger is coming to a close. Despite posting respectable fantasy numbers -- he has nine points (2G, 7A) in six games -- Evgeni Malkin has played poorly at times and seemingly struggled to grasp new coach Mike Johnston's system. He's been hearing more than his fair share of boo birds in Pittsburgh, making his near-term future something to keep an eye on.

Pens' Malkin: Four-Game Point Streak

News: Evgeni Malkin scored a goal and added an assist, both of which came on the power play, in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Islanders. His point streak stands at four games and seven points (two goals, five assists).
Analysis: He finally started to fire the puck on Saturday night, something he'd struggled to do thus far. His five shots doubled his season total to this point. We can't help but wonder if that undisclosed injury that has forced him onto the wing has something to do with his wrist. It bears watching for sure.

Pens' Malkin Set At Right Wing -- For Now

News: Evgeni Malkin is expected to skate at right wing for at least the next two games.
Analysis: Coach Mike Johnston said Wednesday that he could keep the team's top two lines intact until Beau Bennett returns sometime in November. At that point, Evgeni Malkin could move back to center on the second line with Brandon Sutter sliding down to serve as a third-line centerman. Despite missing all of training camp, Malkin has scored a goal and three assists in Pittsburgh's first two contests.

Pens' Malkin Produces Big Game Saturday

News: Evgeni Malkin netted his first goal of the season Saturday while picking up a pair of helpers against the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: After contributing just one point in Pittsburgh's six-goal outburst Thursday, Evgeni Malkin broke out in a big way Saturday. Not surprisingly, it came versus Toronto, against whom the right winger now has 47 points in 25 contests.

Pens' Malkin Plays, Picks Up Point In Debut

News: Evgeni Malkin, who picked up an assist in the Pens' season opener Thursday, finished plus-1 with four PIM in 16:58 TOI against the Ducks.
Analysis: Evgeni Malkin skated as a right winger, a move which figures to add to his versatility in fantasy circles. His 4:47 TOI on the power play was more than any other Pittsburgh forward, including Sidney Crosby (4:37 TOI). Malkin and Zach Sill were the Pens' only two forwards to finish without a shot on goal, but considering Malkin missed all of camp, he played well. The star forward averages 1.83 points against Toronto, Saturday's opponent -- his highest scoring rate against any team.

Pens' Malkin To Play At Wing In Opener

News: Coach Mike Johnston confirmed Evgeni Malkin (undisclosed) would play at right wing in Thursday's season opener against Anaheim, Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: Evgeni Malkin didn't turn in his first practice of the preseason until Tuesday, but the Penguins are comfortable enough with where he's at on the conditioning front to give him some run Thursday. However, because of his limited time in camp in adjusting to Johnston's new system, Malkin will be eased into action at wing. It shouldn't be long before he slots back in as the second-line center, but while he remains on the outside temporarily, he figures to see less than the 20 minutes of ice time per game he averaged under Dan Bylsma last season.

Penguins' Malkin "50-50" For Season Opener

News: Evgeni Malkin (undisclosed) practiced Tuesday for the first time this preseason, according to Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Analysis: Evgeni Malkin was able to take part in all drills Thursday, so it seems he is feeling fine after sitting out practice nearly the entire preseason. However, he still has some work to do to get into playing shape, so he is not a lock to play in Thursday's season opener. Malkin considers his chances of playing Thursday "50-50," so a final decision on his status may not be made until game day.
