Sabres' Weber Available For Tuesday

News: Mike Weber (undisclosed) is considered healthy enough to play Tuesday against the Flames, Amy Moritz of the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Mike Weber missed the Sabres' final two games prior to the All-Star break due to the ailment, but appears to be good to go after the extended time off. The blueliner was a full participant in Monday's practice and figures to draw back into the lineup Tuesday, barring any late setbacks in his recovery during the Sabres' gameday skate.

Sabres' Weber (Undisclosed) To Sit Out Next Two

News: Mike Weber (undisclosed) is expected to miss the Sabres' next two games Saturday and Sunday, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.
Analysis: Mike Weber wasn't on the ice for Friday's practice or for the Sabres' morning skate Saturday, as it appears he suffered an injury of some sort during Thursday's 7-0 loss to the Wild. With the blueliner unavailable, Andre Benoit will step into his lineup spot on the Sabres' third pairing.

Sabres' Weber Pots First Of Season

News: Mike Weber potted his first goal of the season -- and the Sabres' only score of the game -- in Tuesday's loss to the Red Wings.
Analysis: Mike Weber has recorded exactly one goal in each of the previous three seasons, so it looks like he's already met his quota for 2014-15. The blueliner's lack of offense and poor plus/minus rating make it difficult to extract value from his lofty hit and blocked shot totals.

Sabres Activate Weber For Saturday's Game

News: Mike Weber (knee) has been activated from injured reserve and will play Saturday against the Islanders, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.
Analysis: Mike Weber missed the previous six games after undergoing a minor procedure on his left knee, but was fortunate not to miss more time thanks to a few favorable breaks in the Sabres' schedule. He appears on track to join Andre Benoit on the second pairing.

Sabres' Weber Won't Return Tuesday

News: Mike Weber (knee) will not rejoin the Buffalo lineup Tuesday versus the Red Wings.
Analysis: After undergoing minor knee surgery less than two weeks ago, Mike Weber had set his sights on returning to action before the Christmas break, but the Sabres decided to table those plans since he's not quite at 100 percent health. That being said, he does appear to be closing in on a return, and will have more realistic odds of suiting up for the Sabres' first game out of the break Saturday against the Islanders.

Sabres' Weber (Knee) Targeting A Return Tuesday

News: Mike Weber (knee) is targeting a return for Tuesday against the Red Wings, Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Mike Weber has missed the Sabres' previous five games, including Sunday, with a knee injury. If he's unable to make a return Tuesday, his next opportunity to get on the ice will be against the Islanders on Saturday.

Sabres' Weber Returns To Ice

News: Mike Weber (knee) resumed skating Friday, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.
Analysis: Mike Weber isn't expected to return until around Christmastime, so he'll probably still need a few days of conditioning and practice time before he feels comfortable with his knee to play next week. He's already missed the last three games with the injury.

Sabres Place Weber On IR

News: Mike Weber (knee) has been placed on IR.
Analysis: The move is hardly surprising, as Mike Weber is expected to be out through Christmas following minor surgery on his left knee. Mikhail Grigorenko has been recalled to take Weber's place on the roster.

Sabres' Weber To Miss Few Weeks Following Surgery

News: Mike Weber underwent a minor surgery on his left knee Friday that will likely keep him out until after Christmas.
Analysis: The minor arthroscopic procedure seems to have just been done for cleanup purposes, and fortunately it doesn't look like it will result in more than a month-long absence. Still, Mike Weber will be forced to miss the next handful of games, paving the way for Andrej Meszaros (concussion) to reenter the lineup Saturday after a six-game absence. Weber has only four points and a minus-5 rating for the season, but he's been one of the team's top hitters (72 hits in 26 games) and shot blockers (53).

Sabres' Weber Nursing Injury

News: Mike Weber missed Friday's practice with an undisclosed injury.
Analysis: Coach Ted Nolan wouldn't specify the nature of Mike Weber's injury, but said that the blueliner was being evaluated and should have a clearer diagnosis of his condition in advance of Saturday's game versus the Panthers. With Weber considered questionable at best to play Saturday, Andrej Meszaros could draw back into the lineup.

Sabres' Weber Likely To Play Tuesday

News: Mike Weber will likely play on Tuesday, reports The Buffalo News.
Analysis: Head coach Ted Nolan indicated Mike Weber will play once trainers give him the green light. A stay-at-home defenseman who plays a hard, physical game, Weber has four assists in 24 games to go along with 39 PIM. He's throwing his body around a lot of 69 hits and 49 blocked shots, but unless your league counts these categories Weber has no fantasy value.

Sabres' Weber Gets First Point

News: Mike Weber picked up his first point of the season in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Maple Leafs, earning a secondary assist on Matt Moulson's second-period tally.
Analysis: As a stay-at-home defender on a Sabres team that leads the league in shots on goal allowed, Mike Weber is more harmful than helpful to fantasy players, despite his sizable hit and block totals. He posted a minus-29 rating last season and could challenge that mark in 2014-15, as he's already sitting at minus-6 through 16 games.

Sabres' Weber Streaking To Close Out Season

News: Mike Weber logged an assist and led the team with five hits in a 2-1 loss to the Rangers on Thursday.
Analysis: For a guy who has never logged more than 17 points in one season, Mike Weber is closing out the campaign on a strong note. Although the fourth year blue-liner has a goal and two assists during his current three-game point streak, there's no guarantee he'll continue this uncharacteristic production for the remaining two games of the season.

Sabres' Weber Scores First Goal Of Season

News: Mike Weber scored his first goal of the season in Sunday's loss to the Flyers.
Analysis: It's hard to imagine many fantasy players benefited from the tally, as Mike Weber's minus-32 rating makes him largely poisonous in most formats. Not even his 197 hits and 143 blocked shots on the season are enough to make up for that kind of plus-minus damage.

Sabres' Weber Looks To Improve

News: Mike Weber has a league-worst minus-32 rating in 43 games, but doesn't believe it's reflective of his play, reports the Olean Times Herald.
Analysis: The rugged, defensive defenseman is having a tough season, though the same could be said for all of the Sabres. Despite his horrendous plus-minus rating, Mike Weber believe he's playing with the right amount of aggressiveness, but needs to be more mindful of his defensive positioning. Weber had very limited fantasy value coming into the season because of his limited offensive skills, and it's difficult to see his stock climb during the remainder of the season. The Sabres have other defensemen, including Tyler Myers and Christian Ehrhoff, who provide much more value.

Sabres' Weber Owns League-Worst Minus-32 Rating

News: Mike Weber enters the Olympic break with a league-worst minus-32 rating.
Analysis: Mike Weber has done well in providing 143 hits and 90 blocks this season, but the horrendous rating and his limited scoring (three points in 43 games) makes him poisonous in just about any fantasy format. There's likely plenty of defensemen on the waiver wire who can match Weber's production in other categories without carrying such a risk in the plus/minus department.

Weber To Serve As Sabres' Alternate Captain

News: With a slew of injuries to the team's veteran defensemen, Mike Weber will have an 'A' on his jersey Thursday night against Florida, reports Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald.
Analysis: Henrik Tallinder (upper body) remains sidelined and Tyler Myers is serving a three-game suspension, which means Mike Weber will be logging heavy minutes. It will be a tough task, as Weber has been struggling at both ends of the ice. He has just two assists in 28 games and a team-worst minus-19. Even with the extra minutes, Weber isn't expected to provide much fantasy value.

Sabres' Weber To Play Thursday

News: After sitting out on Tuesday, Mike Weber draws back in Thursday to finish off a home-and-home series against Ottawa, reports John Vogl of The Buffalo News.
Analysis: Brayden McNabb took Mike Weber's spot and limited the Sens to just one goal in regulation, but interim head coach Ted Nolan either saw something he didn't like or wants Weber to get some more playing time. Neither defensemen have much fantasy value at this point, though if a choice had to be made, McNabb would be the better pick with much higher upside.

Sabres' Weber Scratched Tuesday

News: Mike Weber was scratched from the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Senators.
Analysis: The 25-year-old has appeared in 17 games this season but is yet to record a point and has posted a minus-16 rating.

Sabres' Weber Promoted To Top Pairing

News: With Mark Pysyk made a healthy scratch, Mike Weber has been promoted to the first defensive pairing alongside Christian Ehrhoff against Philadelphia on Thursday night.
Analysis: Mike Weber recently returned from a broken hand, and it looks like there aren't any lingering effects from his injury. Weber isn't a first-pairing defenseman, but the Sabres' blueline is young and head coach Ted Nolan wants to get a good look at everyone.

Sabres' Weber To Return Tuesday

News: Mike Weber broke his hand blocking a shot against Florida on Oct. 25, but will be available for Tuesday night's game against St. Louis, reports the Olean Times Herald.
Analysis: With Mike Weber's return, Nikita Zadorov could be reassigned to the OHL's London Knights, where he's expected to be one of the team's top defensemen. Weber provides a little more experience on Buffalo's blue line, with 185 career NHL games, but the 25-year-old defenseman will likely slot in on the third pairing. Weber's fantasy value is quite limited, considering he's minus-12 with no points in 11 games.

Sabres' Weber Could Return For Weekend

News: Mike Weber (thumb) could be ready to play for the Sabres this weekend.
Analysis: Mike Weber has been on injured reserve with a broken thumb, but apparently has made some progress with the injury and could be ready to play through it. His timetable for a return with the injury was very uncertain initially, but it seems it could be sooner than originally thought.

Sabres' Weber Lands On IR

News: Mike Weber (thumb) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.
Analysis: This was the expected outcome after coach Ron Rolston characterized the injury Mike Weber suffered Friday night as "long term." Josh Leino was activated from IR in a corresponding move.

Sabres To Miss Weber For A Stretch

News: Coach Ron Rolston says Mike Weber will be out "long term" with an upper-body injury suffered on a shot block in Friday's win over Florida.
Analysis: The word is it's a thumb injury, so perhaps he has a broken thumb or a torn ligament in the thumb area. It's been a very rough season for Mike Weber so far, as he has zero points and a minus-10 rating and now a considerable injury to deal with. He's the only injured Sabre on a fairly deep blue line, so the team shouldn't have much trouble dealing with this for now, even as they continue to roll with a seven-man active rotation.

Sabres Lose Weber In Friday's Game

News: Mike Weber left Friday's game in Florida with an upper-body injury and will not return, according to the Sabres' game broadcast.
Analysis: The Sabres don't have much going for them these days, but they do have a relatively deep blue line corps, so if Mike Weber has to miss any time we imagine the team won't have much difficulty replacing his zero points and minus-10 rating. Also, the Sabres were playing with seven blueliners Friday, so it won't even affect the team much for the rest of the night, either. Weber had three blocked shots and three hits through the game before departing.
