Toronto's Bernier Named Second Star In Win

News: Jonathan Bernier made 40 saves in a 6-2 win over Anaheim on Tuesday night.
Analysis: He earned the game's second star for his efforts. Jonathan Bernier's now 8-1-1 in his last 10; that's the period since that fateful game against Nashville on Nov. 20, when he was yanked after the first period. If you take out the nine goals he allowed in losses to the Devils and Pens over that stretch, he's allowed just 14 goals in the remaining eight contests. Bernier should be a lineup fixture in all formats right now.

Maple Leafs' Bernier To Start Tuesday

News: Jonathan Bernier will start Tuesday's game against the Ducks, TSN's Jonas Siegel reports.
Analysis: Jonathan Bernier, who gave up four total goals over his last three starts, will be looking for his fourth straight win Tuesday night. He will face a stiff challenge, however, from a Ducks team that currently leads the NHL with 47 points.

Leafs' Bernier: 27 Saves In Win Over Wings

News: Jonathan Bernier made 27 saves in Saturday's 4-1 win over Detroit. The only goal he allowed came on the power play.
Analysis: He was solid throughout, even when the two teams traded chances early in the game. He has won five games in his last six outings and is firmly entrenched as the Buds' top dog. But the team does like to split up back-to-back games, so that means he's tentative for Sunday's game.

Leafs' Bernier To Get Nod Saturday

News: Jonathan Bernier will be in the crease Saturday against the Red Wings, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Analysis: It was expected that the Leafs would save Jonathan Bernier for the second game of their weekend back-to-back for a matchup against his former team, Los Angeles, but those possible plans might have been scrapped after James Reimer tweaked his groin during Friday's practice. Coach Randy Carlyle still plans to use both of his goalies over the weekend, but by going with Bernier on Saturday, he'll give Reimer a day to rest up. Bernier has been outstanding in each of his last two outings, stopping a combined 76-of-79 shots in victories over the Canucks and Flames.

Maple Leafs' Bernier Gets The Night Off

News: Jonathan Bernier will not start Wednesday's game against the Red Wings, according to TSN's Jonas Siegel.
Analysis: Jonathan Bernier started the last nine games for the Maple Leafs, but he will sit out in favor of James Reimer with Toronto playing Wednesday for the second time in as many nights.

Bernier Sharp In Toronto Win

News: Jonathan Bernier made 32 saves Tuesday in a 4-1 win over the Flames. It was his ninth straight start.
Analysis: The game was actually really close -- two of the Buds' tallies came into an empty net. Jonathan Bernier has seized the starter's role with some fury and he's not about to let it go. We still expect back-to-back games will result in a rest for Bernier, so James Reimer may be in net Wednesday against Detroit. We'll wait to hear.

Maple Leafs' Bernier Starts Ninth Straight Tuesday

News: Jonathan Bernier will be the starting goaltender in Tuesday's game against the Flames, TSN's Jonas Siegel reports.
Analysis: Jonathan Bernier will square off against a Calgary team that currently sits fifth in the NHL with 3.07 goals per game. He will start his ninth straight game Tuesday, but will likely give way to James Reimer on Wednesday with the Maple Leafs playing back-to-back nights.

Leafs' Bernier Steals Game With 44-Save Win

News: Jonathan Bernier delivered a strong performance Saturday night, making 44 saves in a 5-2 win over Vancouver.
Analysis: He stole the game for the Leafs, who were often caught out of position or in the penalty box. He helped the team go six-for-six in penalty kill situations. The Leafs' wide-open approach can't be sustained, so watch Jonathan Bernier's ratios carefully. He can't always deliver first-star honors.

Leafs' Bernier Will Start Saturday

News: Jonathan Bernier will start in goal Saturday against the Canucks, Jonas Siegel of TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: There were some murmurs Friday night that James Reimer would get the nod against Vancouver, but the Maple Leafs announced early Saturday that Jonathan Bernier will mind the net. It will mark Bernier's eighth straight start between the pipes.

Leafs' Bernier Expected To Start Saturday

News: Jonathan Bernier is expected to start Saturday against the Canucks, Mark Masters of TSN reports.
Analysis: Jonathan Bernier stopped 21 shots in a 5-3 loss against the Devils on Thursday, but will receive the start between the pipes again on Saturday. He will carry a 2.76 GAA and .912 save percentage into a tough matchup against a Canucks team sixth in the league in scoring at 3.08 G/GP.

Leafs' Bernier May Not Start Saturday

News: Updating an earlier report, Jonathan Bernier may not start Saturday's game, according to a report on Toronto's Sportsnet 590 The FAN.
Analysis: There has been no confirmation of a starter, but the prevailing thought Friday night was that James Reimer -- not Jonathan Bernier -- will be between the pipes against Vancouver. Rolling Bernier is a risk. Hopefully there's confirmation of a starter before warmups.

Leafs' Bernier Makes 21 Saves In Loss

News: Jonathan Bernier made 21 saves in a 5-3 loss to the Devils on Thursday night.
Analysis: He gave up a goal in the first five minutes of the game -- the eighth time he's done that this season. It's almost like he's not ready to start the game. But then again, it's not just Jonathan Bernier's fault -- his defense might have something to do with that.

Maple Leafs' Bernier Starts Again Thursday

News: Jonathan Bernier will be in goal for Thursday's game against the Devils, TSN's Jonas Siegel reports.
Analysis: Jonathan Bernier gave up three goals but picked up the victory in his last start, so he will get the nod Thursday for the seventh straight game. Bernier will take on a New Jersey team that has lost seven of eight games entering Thursday's contest.

Bernier Seals Leafs' Win With 35 Saves

News: Jonathan Bernier made 35 saves in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Stars.
Analysis: It was a solid game, but the Leafs were still a bit sloppy in front of him and that means there were a few too many solid chances for the Stars snipers. Still, he's picked up wins in four of his last five starts and his ratios are slowly starting to improve. He's finally seizing the starter's reins. Use him accordingly.

Maple Leafs' Bernier Goes Again Tuesday

News: Jonathan Bernier will be between the pipes for Tuesday's game against the Stars, TSN's Mark Masters reports.
Analysis: Jonathan Bernier will start his sixth straight game Tuesday night. He will take on a Dallas squad that sits 10th in the league with 2.88 goals per game, but won just five of 19 tilts in the month of November.

Bernier Makes 35 Saves In Leafs' Win

News: Jonathan Bernier made 35 saves in Saturday's 6-2 win over Washington.
Analysis: His game is starting to tighten up -- he has three wins in his last four games. The Buds play next on Tuesday against Dallas. He should have plenty of rest before that game, but there's always a chance the team starts James Reimer one of these days.

Maple Leafs' Bernier Set For Saturday Start

News: Jonathan Bernier will start Saturday against the Capitals, TSN's Jonas Siegel reports.
Analysis: Jonathan Bernier gave up four goals in an overtime loss his last time out, but he will start his fifth game in a row Saturday. Bernier will square off against a Washington team that scored five goals Friday, but had lit the lamp just nine times in its previous six games.

Leafs' Bernier Struggles In OT Loss

News: Jonathan Bernier allowed four goals on 26 shots in Wednesday's overtime loss to the Pens.
Analysis: Jonathan Bernier continues to struggle early in games to give the Leafs some confidence to build on. The Pens scored just 26 seconds into the game which saw the Leafs fall back on their heels. After the first period, Bernier picked up his game and made some key saves on odd man rushes to at least give the Leafs a fighting chance to win the game. The loss gives Bernier a 7-5-3 record with a .915 save percentage and a 2.63 GAA which is 19th and 25th in the league. With the Leafs not playing until Saturday, expect Bernier to be thrown back in between the pipes when they take on the Caps. Randy Carlyle has yet to ride Bernier but because of the recent struggles of James Reimer, this could be Bernier's time to put up or shut up.

Leafs Going With Bernier On Wednesday

News: Jonathan Bernier will be in the crease Wednesday against the Penguins, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: Jonathan Bernier will earn his fourth start in a row after he was able to follow up last week's massacre against Nashville with back-to-back solid showings against the Lightning and Red Wings. The Penguins will represent a tough adversary, however, so Bernier might not be the most attractive play in daily formats.

Leafs' Bernier Sharp In 26-Save Win

News: Jonathan Bernier made 26 saves in Saturday's 4-1 win over Detroit.
Analysis: That makes two strong starts in a row, much to the relief of his fantasy owners. He's 6-2-1 in his last nine and aside from Tuesday's embarrassing loss to the Preds, his game seems to be starting to settle. Especially when wins in that span have come at the expense of some pretty good teams (Bruins, Rangers, Lightning and Red Wings). We like him right now. Use him.

Leafs' Bernier Starts Saturday Versus Detroit

News: Jonathan Bernier will be in the crease Saturday against the Red Wings, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio reports.
Analysis: After coming out on the losing end of an embarrassing 9-2 defeat to the Predators earlier in the week, Jonathan Bernier was able to save face by stymieing an excellent Lightning squad Thursday, holding the opposition to two goals on 28 shots. He'll look to keep the momentum going against Detroit, who will counter in the net with Jimmy Howard, who has been one of the league's best goalies in the early part of the season.

Leafs' Bernier Bounces Back With 26 Saves In Win

News: Jonathan Bernier made 26 saves in a 4-1 win over the Lightning on Thursday night.
Analysis: How's that for a bounce back? The entire Leafs' squad came out roaring and Jonathan Bernier as every part the star they thought they were getting when he was acquired.

Maple Leafs' Bernier Gets The Nod Thursdsay

News: Jonathan Bernier will be between the pipes for Thursday's game against the Lightning, TSN's Jonas Siegel reports.
Analysis: Jonathan Bernier lasted just one period in his last start, so he will look to turn things around Thursday night. That will not come easy, however, against a Tampa Bay squad that currently sits second in the NHL with 3.60 goals per game.

Leafs' Bernier Mercifully Pulled After One Period

News: Jonathan Bernier lasted just 20 minutes in Tuesday's game against the Predators before being pulled. He allowed three goals on 12 shots.
Analysis: U-G-L-Y, the Leafs ain't got an alibi -- they were ugly and their goalies suffered miserably in a 9-2 loss. Yes, you read that right. He'll bounce back, but his value will be reduced while the team in front of him continues to scuffle.

Maple Leafs' Bernier To Face Predators

News: Jonathan Bernier will be in goal for Tuesday's game against the Predators, TSN's Jonas Siegel reports.
Analysis: The Predators do not score much, but they also only give up two goals per game, so Jonathan Bernier will need to be sharp in order to add a tally to the win column Tuesday night.
