News:Derick Brassard picked up two more assists in Monday's Game 7 win over Washington, giving him points in five straight playoff games.
Analysis: With nine points in this postseason, he's tied with some elite names -- Jarome Iginla, Milan Lucic, Sidney Crosby -- for third in scoring. Overall since joining the Rangers, Derick Brassard's on a point-per-game pace, as it appears the change of scenery from Columbus has done the playmaking center a world of good.
News:Derick Brassard scored the game's only goal in Sunday's 1-0 win over Washington.
Analysis:Derick Brassard's goal was a even-strength ripper from the point and catapulted the series to a Game 7. The veteran winger will take a four-game point streak (two goals, five assists) into the series-deciding game Monday night.
News:Derick Brassard tallied two assists in Wednesday's 4-3 win over Washington.
Analysis: A few goose eggs aside, including four playoff games, Derick Brassard has averaged just under (six goals, 10 assists in 17 games) a point-per-game since being dealt to the Rangers. After being shutout in the first two games of the series versus Washington, Brassard has a goal and four assists in his last two contests.
News:Derick Brassard scored a power-play goal and added two assists in Game 3 against the Capitals on Monday.
Analysis: These are Derick Brassard's first points of this postseason, or any postseason, but it continues his strong play that began when he was traded to New York.
News:Derick Brassard started the scoring with a power-play tally, then added a second goal late in the third period of Thursday's 6-1 win over Florida.

He now has three goals and three assists in his last three games, split between two franchises. Perhaps most important to the coaching staff, Brassard won seven of his 11 face-offs.
News:Derick Brassard will play for his new team against the Penguins on Wednesday, reports Steve Zipay.
Analysis: Looks like head coach John Tortorella will waste no time utilizing his new center. A six-year veteran who has spent his entire career with the Jackets, will start anew with the Rangers. Though his more known for his passing, Derick Brassard comes into the tilt with two goals in his last two games.
News:Derick Brassard will head to the Rangers along with John Moore and Derek Dorsett as part of the Marian Gaborik deal, ESPN's Katie Strang reports.
Analysis: The former sixth overall pick (2006) has never broken out as was expected, having never scored more than 47 points in a season. It remains to be seen how he'll slot into the Rangers' forward mix, which has been stirred up with this deal as well as the one for Ryane Clowe.
Jackets' Brassard Extends Point Streak To Four Games
News:Derick Brassard assisted on the Blue Jackets' lone goal in Thursday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Black Hawks.
Analysis: He's quietly put together a tidy four game point streak, scoring one goal and three assists over that stretch. Derick Brassard's been too inconsistent over his career to jump on the bandwagon just yet, but with the whole Jackets' club playing much better right now Brassard's definitely worth keeping an eye on to see if he can build on this.
News:Derick Brassard (upper body) will be available for Tuesday's game against the Oilers.
Analysis:Derick Brassard, who checks in with 10 points in 20 games to date, is slated to center a line with Derek MacKenzie and Jared Boll on Tuesday.
News:Derick Brassard (upper body) will take part in Tuesday morning's skate and could be cleared to play against the Oilers on Tuesday night, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: He's missed two games so far with the injury. Derick Brassard has just 10 points (three goals, seven assists) in 20 games with a minus-8 rating this season, so don't rush to get him back in your lineup if he does suit up.
News:Derick Brassard is slated to miss one-to-two weeks with an upper-body injury, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports. "It is not a head injury," coach Todd Richards noted.
Analysis: With Derick Brassard now out with his unspecified injury, the Blue Jackets are really hurting. Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov, Jack Johnson and James Wisniewski are ailing as well and will all miss Friday's game against the Blackhawks.
Blue Jackets Brassard (Upper Body) To Be Re-Evaluated Wednesday
News:Derick Brassard will be re-evaluated Wednesday after suffering an upper-body injury during Tuesday's loss to Dallas, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: This is a huge blow for the Blue Jackets considering centers Brandon Dubinsky (left knee sprain) and Artem Anisimov (suspected concussion) are both injured. Consider Derick Brassard day-to-day until more information is released.
News:Derick Brassard left Tuesday's game with an upper-body injury and will not return, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: The hits keep coming for the lowly Blue Jackets, who were already down their other top-two center in Artem Anisimov (head), who is out indefinitely. Consider Derick Brassard day-to-day until more information comes out about his injury.
Jackets' Brassard Benched In Third Period Thursday
News:Derick Brassard was benched for the final half of the third period Thursday despite being in the midst of a four-game point streak, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: It's unclear if Derick Brassard will see a reduced role Sunday or if the half-period benching will serve as ample punishment for a hooking penalty that ultimately enabled the Flames to pot a go-ahead goal in the third period before winning in overtime Thursday.
News:Derick Brassard scored his second goal of the season in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Kings.
Analysis: He's put together a three-game point streak, no mean feat on a team as offensively feeble as the Blue Jackets, and Derick Brassard now has five points in 10 games on the season. If you subscribe to the theory that someone has to get some points in Columbus, if only by default, Brassard's worth keeping an eye on.
Jackets' Brassard Gets Top Line Placement To Open Camp
News:Derick Brassard skated on the top line with R. J. Umberger and Cam Atkinson on the first day of training camp, Rob Mixer of BlueJackets.com reports.
Analysis: Until we see who's getting power play assignments, 'top line' is a fairly meaningless designation for the talent-thin Jackets, but it looks like Derick Brassard is going to get yet another chance to try and make good on his potential. He should still remain on the deepest of sleeper lists in most fantasy leagues, though.
News:Derick Brassard has left EC Red Bull Salzburg after just six games, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: There's no official word on why he and fellow Columbus teammate Derek Dorsett left the club, but word is that Salzburg's coach, former NHL bench boss Pierre Page, was too much of a taskmaster for them. Two other NHLers, Tobias Enstrom and David Clarkson, also split after just a handful of games under Page. Derick Brassard had four goals and five points in his six games in Austria.
News:Derick Brassard has signed with EC Red Bull in Salzburg, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Post reports.
Analysis: As the lockout continues to drag on, Derick Brassard is just the latest player to find employment in Europe to bide his time and get into game shape.
News:Derick Brassard dished out two helpers as the Blue Jackets beat up the Islanders 7-3 on Saturday.
Analysis:Derick Brassard ends the season with 41 points, failing to capitalize on what was a successful 2011 season.
News:Derick Brassard assisted on all three of R.J. Umberger's goals in Friday's 5-1 romp over the Hurricanes.
Analysis: The two were joined on a line by rookie Cam Atkinson rather than their usual partner Rick Nash, but the move certainly helped their production for one night at least. Derick Brassard snapped a six-game scoring drought with the outburst.
Jackets' Brassard Extends Point Streak To Five Games
News:Derick Brassard picked up an assist Thursday, extending his point streak to five games.
Analysis: He's got six points (one goal, five assists) during the modest streak, and has three goals and 10 points in his last 10 games.
News:Derick Brassard has a goal and an assist, and was a plus-3, in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: He's been reaping the benefits of being Rick Nash's center, and has three goals and eight points in his last eight games.
News:Derick Brassard posted two assists in Tuesday's 6-3 win over San Jose, giving him four points in the last two games.
Analysis:Derick Brassard has been factoring much into the Jackets' scoring the last three games. He has been inconsistent this season -- a theme of his career. He needs to finish this year with something approaching his recent productivity to earn the faith of fantasy owners.
News:Derick Brassard scored a goal, a power-play marker, for the second straight game on Sunday, and now has eight points (four goals, four assists) in his last nine games.
Analysis: He's one of the few Blue Jackets who's producing at a high level right now, and while his name has come up in trade rumors it's hard to imagine that the team will deal a young player with his promise.
News:Derick Brassard assisted on both Columbus goals Thursday in a loss to Dallas, giving him five points in four games so far in February.
Analysis: The former sixth overall selection has a world of talent, but his team's struggles and his own inconsistency have made things awfully hard on him. Still, all signs are positive of late. Both assists came on the power play Thursday.
News:Derick Brassard scored two goals Friday, including the overtime winner in a 3-2 victory over Anaheim.
Analysis: He's got four goals and seven points in the last 10 games with 25 shots on goal and a plus-1 rating (an impressive number considering that the Blue Jackets have been outscored by 13 goals over that stretch). After an awful start to the season he's re-establishing his spot in the organization's future plans.
News:Derick Brassard let all Columbus players in shots, putting five pucks on goal in Thursday's loss to Nashville.
Analysis:Derick Brassard's numbers this season are as disappointing as his numbers the last two seasons, but there is hope he can turn his play around under yet another new coach.
News:Derick Brassard scored a power-play goal Tuesday, his third goal in his last five games.
Analysis: Freed from former coach Scott Arniel's doghouse, Derick Brassard is once again starting to look like a player the Blue Jackets might be able to build around.
News:Derick Brassard scored his sixth goal of the season Friday and added an assist in the Blue Jackets' 4-3 win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: The goal was a beauty, as he circled with the puck in the Phoenix zone until he found enough space to rip a shot past Jason LaBarbera. Derick Brassard also blocked a shot in the dying seconds of the game, and he seems like a completely different player until new coach Todd Richards. It's still tough to recommend him as a fantasy pickup given his awful start to the season, but Brassard has the talent to turn things around if he gets a chance.
News:Derick Brassard notched his second goal in four games with a tally in Tuesday's shootout loss to Calgary, giving him five points in the last five games.
Analysis:Derick Brassard has never been able to live up to his potential for a whole season, but this little snippet of stats production the last two weeks is evidence of his potential. He has a mere four goals on the season with just 46 shots on goal in 28 games.
News:Derick Brassard assisted on both of Ryan Johansen's power play goals on Thursday.
Analysis: With four points in the last two games Derick Brassard is as close as it gets to hot on the sad-sack Blue Jackets.
News:Derick Brassard, skating on a line with Rick Nash and RJ Umberger Sunday, picked up a goal and an assist.
Analysis: He's gone from coach Scott Arniel's doghouse to centering Rick Nash's line. If he sticks on Nash's line for any length of time, Derick Brassard could regain his fantasy value.
News:Derick Brassard's assist Saturday was his first since Nov. 10. It came on the power play.
Analysis: He's been a healthy scratch a lot lately but he actually saw 16:40 in ice time Saturday, including time on the PP. This could be a showcase for a trade. If so, his fantasy value will go up. He needs a change of scenery.
Brassard's Agent Takes Jackets Coach Arniel To Task
News: After a string of health scratches for his client, Derick Brassard's agent Allan Walsh has issued a statement blasting Blue Jackets' coach Scott Arniel, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: "The coach has a history of burying players and using them as scapegoats to mask his own lack of success on the ice. Derick has been singled out, almost from the very beginning of the season, to be the fall guy in case things don't go well," the statement read in part. Walsh was careful not to criticize GM Scott Howson or the organization as a whole, and made it clear he was not requesting a trade for Derick Brassard, so there likely won't be any fallout from Walsh's tirade. Anything that gets Brassard closer to a regular shift again would be a good thing for his fantasy owners though.
News:Derick Brassard will be a healthy scratch for the second straight game Tuesday, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: The acquisition of Mark Letestu has left Derick Brassard cooling his heels in the press box. He's still got some upside, but it's starting to look like Brassard might need a fresh start in another organization.
News:Derick Brassard was practicing with Alexandre Giroux and Derek Dorsett on the Blue Jackets' fourth line Tuesday, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: He played just six and a half minutes in Sunday's win over the Ducks, and without a spot on the Jackets' top two lines his fantasy value is just about nil.
News:Derick Brassard scored his second goal of the season in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Red Wings.
Analysis: He's picked up a goal in two straight games since moving up to the Rick Nash line, and with Jeff Carter probably out of action for at least another week Derick Brassard seems poised for some nice short-term production.
News:Derick Brassard scored his first point of the season Tuesday, redirecting a Rick Nash shot for a goal.
Analysis: Getting put on Nash's line while Jeff Carter is out gives Derick Brassard a chance to resuscitate his dormant fantasy value. Where he goes when Carter returns will determine whether there's any lasting value.
News:Derick Brassard will be the Blue Jackets' No. 1 center with Jeff Carter (foot) sidelined, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: After falling out of favor early this season, Derick Brassard will have quite an opportunity to regain a regular spot in Carter's absence. If he can play well enough to hold down the top center job, or at least earn himself a spot in the rotation, he should see a bump in fantasy value in Carter's absence.
Jackets Move Brassard To Top Line In Monday's Practice
News: With Jeff Carter sidelined, Derick Brassard skated on the Blue Jackets' top line between Rick Nash and R.J. Umberger during Monday's practice, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Coach Scott Arniel might just be trying to shake up a roster that has yet to win a game this season, but this could also be an indication that Carter will miss more than just a game or two with his foot injury. If Derick Brassard sees regular ice time with Nash, he could be worth snapping up in the short term.
News:Derick Brassard (back) skated on the fourth line Saturday, seeing just 12 shifts and under nine minutes of ice time.
Analysis: It's good that he was able to play, but until he finds his way back onto a scoring line he's got no more than speculative fantasy value.
News:Derick Brassard (groin) is questionable for Saturday's game against the Stars, Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis:Derick Brassard returned to the ice Friday after sitting out practice the day before, but apparently he is still not 100 percent. Don't be surprised if his status for Saturday's game is not determined until game time.
News:Derick Brassard didn't practice Thursday due to what coach Scott Arniel described as a "slight tweak of the lower body", the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: This seems like just a maintenance day, and Derick Brassard should be fine for the Blue Jackets' next game Saturday.
News:Derick Brassard seems set to begin the season on the Blue Jackets' third line with rookie center Ryan Johansen and either Maksim Mayorov or Alexandre Giroux.
Analysis: He lost his spot in the top six to another rookie, Cam Atkinson. With so much imexperience on the roster there could be more line juggling than usual in Columbus at the beginning of the season, but Derick Brassard should still be bumped down some spots on your cheat sheets if you haven't drafted yet, as this kind of placement will limit his upside.
News: Brassard scored Columbus' second goal of the night Friday, but the Blue Jackets still fell 4-2 to the Kings.
Analysis: Since returning from a hand injury, Brassard has a goal and an assist in two games.
News: Brassard (bruised ankle) expects to play Friday against the Kings, according to Thomas Reed of the Columbus Dispatch.
Analysis: Brassard blocked a shot in practice Thursday that really stung, but apparently there's no structural damage and he'll play Friday. Given that he missed eight games recently with a hand injury and the Blue Jackets are in the midst of a playoff race, this comes as a sigh of relief for the team.
News: Brassard, who picked up an assist Wednesday in his return from a hand injury, suffered a bruised ankle after blocking a shot and didn't practice Thursday, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: He's considered questionable for Friday's game, but given the club's desperation to stay in the playoff race expect him to be on the ice if at all possible.
News: Brassard (hand) was activated off injured reserve Wednesday, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Brassard, who suffered the injury Feb. 18, has missed the team's last eight games. Prior to the injury, he recorded 14 goals and 25 assists in 57 games.
News: Brassard (hand) is expected to return to practice Tuesday, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: If all goes well, he should be able to get back in the lineup in about a week or so. That might not be soon enough to save the Blue Jackets' flagging playoff hopes though.
News: Brassard (hand) was placed on injured reserve and will miss two to three weeks.
Analysis: This is a bad break for Brassard owners, as he'd been very good since the New Year, tallying 16 points in 19 games. It sounds like his hand isn't broken, though, so at least he won't be out that long.
News: Brassard left Wednesday's game with an undisclosed injury, the Blue Jackets' official site reports.
Analysis: His return is considered doubtful at this time. The nature of Brassard's injury is uncertain, but Derek MacKenzie was centering the first line after Brassard departed with R.J. Umberger in the locker room as well.
News: Brassard picked up two assists in Tuesday's win over the Penguins.
Analysis: He's now got 13 goals and 37 points on the season, both career highs, but the biggest improvement for Brassard has been in the health department as he's played in all 53 Blue Jackets games this season.
News: Brassard registered a goal in Tuesday's loss to Anaheim, giving him three goals in the last five contests.
Analysis: Brassard also has four helpers over that span and is showing the potential he has. He's still 21 and his best years may be ahead of him. Playing alongside Rick Nash doesn't hurt either.
News: Brassard picked up two assists in Saturday's 5-2 drubbing of the Blues.
Analysis: He now has six points (2G, 4A) in his last five games, and 32 points on the season. He's getting comfortable on the Rick Nash line, and that should mean solid production going forward.
Two Points For Brassard In Jackets' OT Loss Saturday
News: Brassard had a goal and an assist in Saturday's 6-5 OT loss to the Red Wings.
Analysis: The Rick Nash-Brassard-Jakub Voracek line is starting to roar, and as a result Brassard now has six points (1G, 5A) in his last seven games.
News: Brassard is on pace to nearly double his shots on goal output from last season, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: As noted by the Columbus Dispatch, Brassard already has 100 shots on goal compared to last season when he had 125 in 79 games. "I don't want teams thinking, 'Brassard is only going to pass,'" he said. "I know my shot is good enough, and I've got to keep looking for it." Naturally, the increase in shots has led to more goals; his nine scores this season have already matched his total from 2009-10.
News: Brassard scored Monday during the shootout win over Minnesota, his second straight contest with a goal.
Analysis: Brassard's a talented player on an upstart team and will continue to see offensive chances. However, he hasn't been terribly consistent this season with just nine goals and several prolonged droughts the last five weeks. He was red-hot earlier in the season and has the talent to produce. Keep an eye on him.
News: Brassard scored Columbus' lone goal in Sunday's 4-1 loss to Chicago.
Analysis: Brassard ruined Chicago goalie Marty Turco's shutout, scoring a power-play goal at 17:34 of the third. Brassard scored for the first time since December 15 and now has 22 points (8G, 14A) in 35 games.
News: Brassard scored his first goal in 10 games, and sixth of the season, in Sunday's loss to the Red Wings.
Analysis: He did rack up nine assists during that goalless drought though, so he was hardly ineffective from a fantasy perspective. Brassard has settled in nicely as a pass-first complement to Rick Nash.
News: Brassard assisted on one of linemate Rick Nash's three goals Saturday as the Blue Jackets whipped the Sharks in San Jose, 3-0. The helper gives him at least one point in 11 of his last 12 games.
Analysis: There's something to be said for steady play. Brassard has only two multi-point games all season, but there he is, hanging around the top of the Columbus scoring leaderboard (only Nash is ahead of him). At the rate he's going, he'll blow by last year's scoring totals in early January. If he's still available in your league and you have a roster slot, you should consider grabbing him.
Columbus' Brassard Gets Three Assists Wednesday Night
News: Brassard had three assists Wednesday night as Columbus defeated St. Louis 8-1.
Analysis: The three assists extended his points streak to eight straight games. Brassard has recorded 11 points (5 G, 6 A) over that span. If he's still on the waiver wire in your league, it's time to go ahead and make a move for him while he's centering Rick Nash's line.
Jackets' Brassard Extends Point Streak To Seven Games
News: Brassard picked up an assist on Rick Nash's first period goal Saturday, extending his scoring streak to a career-high seven games.
Analysis: He's been consistent but not explosive, recording five goals and eight points over the seven games, but the offense-starved Blue Jackets will take what they can get right now.
News: Brassard picked up a goal and an assist in Thursday's win over Atlanta to push his points streak to six straight games.
Analysis: This little streak has been a nice change of pace for Brassard, who recorded just a single point in the first six games of the season.
News: Brassard extended his scoring streak to four games with a third period power play goal in a 5-1 loss to the Avalanche.
Analysis: While the Blue Jackets as a whole are struggling to produce consistent offense, Brassard seems to be settling into a groove alongside Rick Nash.
News: Brassard extended his point streak to three games Thursday with an assist in a 3-2 shootout win over the Oilers.
Analysis: The Blue Jackets need all the offense they can get, so seeing Brassard build up some confidence and momentum is very good news indeed. The kid has talent and is taking a regular shift with Rick Nash, so don't be shy about using him.
News: Brassard posted his second goal in as many games, scoring a power-play goal in Monday's win over Philadelphia.
Analysis: Brassard is a player on whom Columbus is rather high and the Blue Jackets are hoping he can fulfill some of the potential he possesses. He's been a bit streaky, but power play time with Rick Nash is a great situation.
Jackets' Brassard Will Open Season On the Second Line
News: Brassard will open the season centering the Blue Jackets' second line, skating with fellow young guns Nikita Filatov and Jakub Voracek, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Analysis: The three were all top 10 picks in successive years for Columbus between 2006 and 2008, and there's a ton of upside in that unit if it clicks. There'll also be less pressure on Brassard on the second line than there was last season when he was put on Rick Nash's line, so hopefully he can relax and finally start to harness his potential.
News: Blue Jackets C Derick Brassard scored his team's only goal during a 2-1 loss to the Blues on Monday. Columbus outshot St. Louis 11-4 in the first period and took the lead on Brassard's power-play deflection at 3:10. It was his ninth goal and first score since March 9.
Analysis: Brassard has played very well out of the Olympic break. He has produced two goals and eight points in 15 games. It might not seem like much, but it is great strides seeing how Brassard has had a tough season. There is talent here with the former first-round pick, but Brassard is going to be a low-end Fantasy flier on Draft Day 2010.
News: Blue Jackets C Derick Brassard (hand) returned to the ice on Monday night against the Kings.
Analysis: Brassard burned his hand while grabbing the knob of his stick, which was covered in hot glue at the time, as it was falling off a locker-room table. He then got an infection in the wound. Brassard was playing well before this injury, so think about activating him in deeper leagues.
News: The Columbus Dispatch reports that Blue Jackets C Derik Brassard (hand) will return to action Monday at the Kings.
Analysis: Brassard burned his hand while grabbing the knob of his stick, which was covered in hot glue at the time, as it was falling off a locker-room table. He then got an infection in the wound. Brassard was playing well before this injury, so think about activating him in deeper leagues for Fantasy Week 21 (March 8-14) if you need center help.
News: Blue Jackets C Derick Brassard (upper body) missed a second straight game Saturday with an upper-body injury. Columbus' official web site reported that Brassard might play Tuesday at Los Angeles.
Analysis: Brassard had a four-game assist streak before this injury popped up, so his Fantasy owners won't be happy about his absence. Brassard can be a viable starting option in deeper Fantasy leagues when he's healthy and playing well, but will be a risky start for Week 21 (March 8-14).
News: Columbus C Derick Brassard, who refused to disclose the nature of his injury, said before the Olympic break that he would return after it was over. He was wrong. Brassard remained a scratch on Tuesday against Vancouver.
Analysis: The injury is believed to be of the upper-body variety, but coach Claude Noel is throwing everyone off the beat by calling it a lower-body issue. Brassard could definitely emerge as a Fantasy sleeper down the stretch, he just needs to get healthy first. Stay tuned.
News:The Columbus Dispatch reports Blue Jackets C Derick Brassard won't disclose the nature of his injury that he suffered on Sunday against the Blackhawks, but he said he will be OK to play in the team's next game after the Olympic break -- March 2 vs. Vancouver.
Analysis: The injury is believed to be of the upper-body variety, but coach Claude Noel is throwing everyone off the beat by calling it a lower-body issue. Either way, Brassard seems confident the extended rest will help him. Brassard picked up an assist on Sunday to extend his point streak to four games. Brassard has played solid hockey since Noel took over behind the bench. He was a minus-20 player under coach Ken Hitchcock and struggling offensively. However, Brassard hasn't finished below even in five games since Noel took over and is starting to be productive offensively. Brassard could definitely emerge as a Fantasy sleeper down the stretch.
News: Blue Jackets C Derick Brassard tallied an assist and finished at plus-1 on Sunday against the Blackhawks. Brassard has an assist in four straight games. He is also plus-4 in that span.
Analysis: Brassard has played solid hockey since Claude Noel took over behind the bench. He was a minus-20 player under coach Ken Hitchcock and struggling offensively. However, Brassard hasn't finished below even in five games since Noel took over and is starting to be productive offensively. Brassard could definitely emerge as a Fantasy sleeper down the stretch.
News: The Blue Jackets' second line of Raffi Torres, Derick Brassard and Jakub Voracek all finished with minus-4 ratings in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to the Avalanche.
Analysis: Torres has been the subject of trade rumors lately, but this performance won't do anything for his value. Brassard is only one point off his career high of 25, but he's still underwhelming as a solid prospect. Voracek, meanwhile, has no points and a minus-8 in his last six games. He should be benched in all formats for the time being.
News:The Sports Xchange reports Antoine Vermette was a third-line left wing before the Blue Jackets acquired him in a trade with Ottawa last March. Derick Brassard is a 22-year-old whose early NHL career has been sidetracked by a slew of serious injuries. The Blue Jackets have counted on those two to anchor their top two forward lines, and the process has not always been easy. So far, Vermette has not meshed with Blue Jackets captain and leading scorer Rick Nash.
Analysis: Brassard has endured a frustrating sophomore season, spending 35 of the first 56 games on the third or fourth lines. He's not yet able to go head-to-head with the top centers in the league. "It's a work in progress," Blue Jackets coach Ken Hitchcock said. "We've got guys who are learning on the job. "You just hope that the short-term pain is going to result in long-term gain." It wasn't always this way for Brassard. He actually did quite well as a rookie in 2008-09 before sustaining a season-ending shoulder injury. He hasn't been able to rebound since. Brassard is more of a long-term Fantasy keeper and low-end flier in seasonal formats until he gets on track.
News: The Columbus Dispatch reports that Blue Jackets coach Ken Hitchcock said Tuesday he will use C Derick Brassard more, starting tonight against the Canucks. Brassard will play on a line with Antoine Vermette and Jake Voracek. "He's really coming on and playing with confidence," Hitchcock said.
Analysis: Brassard has 20 points in 42 games this season, which is only five behind his total from last year. However, that was in 31 games before his season ended in December thanks to a dislocated shoulder. Hopefully this move gets him back on track a little, so keep a close eye on him in deeper leagues.
News: Blue Jackets C Derick Brassard scored a goal and finished at plus-1 during Wednesday's game against the Panthers. Brassard ended a 14-game scoring drought with a late goal for Columbus. Brassard took a pass from Raffi Torres and skated to the left edge of the net before lifting the puck over Tomas Vokoun's right shoulder. It was the first time Brassard had scored in more than a month.
Analysis: Brassard has eight points in his last 10 games and 18 points in 29 contests. However, he has disappointed from a Fantasy standpoint since he was expected to threaten as a point-per-game player from the beginning of the season. It's great to see Brassard coming around, but he is still a low-end Fantasy start.
News: Blue Jackets C Derick Brassard tallied an assist and finished at plus-1 on Monday against the Blues. He has an assist in five of his last six games and six total in that span. He is up to 13 helpers on the season.
Analysis: This latest run has been one of Brassard's most productive outputs in 2009-10 and gives up hope that he might finally be ready to turn his season around. Brassard is a talented young skater that is still trying to find his rhythm after his 2008-09 season came to an abrupt end due to injury. Brassard is a low-end Fantasy start until he shows consistency over a long period.
News: Blue Jackets C Derick Brassard tallied a pair of assists and finished at plus-1 during Saturday's game against the Predators. It was his first points in six games.
Analysis: We wish Brassard never went down with a shoulder injury last season because it definitely seems to have messed with his on-ice confidence. Brassard was rolling along as a rookie in 2008-09 before the injury and now he is struggling to put points on the board. Brassard is a good, young talent, but he is definitely a low-end Fantasy flier until further notice.
News: Columbus C Derick Brassard returned to action on Thursday against the Thrashers after missing one game because of a hand injury. Brassard finished the game with both a goal and an assist.
Analysis: Gripping the stick was an issue for Brassard initially but he felt good enough to score a goal and add an assist on Thursday against Atlanta. Brassard now has 10 points on the season with three goals and seven assists. He has loads of Fantasy potential but remains just a low-end option until he is able to break out.
News: Blue Jackets C Derick Brassard was scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the Sharks because of a hand injury. He is questionable for Thursday's game against Atlanta.
Analysis: Brassard's X-rays came back clean after he hurt himself on Saturday and he was expected to play Wednesday. But it seems gripping his stick was still an issue. Brassard has a point in three straight games, but he has definitely had a disappointing start after being a top Calder candidate in 2008-09 before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. Brassard has a ton of Fantasy potential, but he should be considered a low-end option until his breakout run.
News: The Columbus Dispatch reports that Blue Jackets C Derick Brassard (hand) will not play Wednesday vs. San Jose.
Analysis: Brassard isn't expected to miss much time with this injury, so hopefully he returns before the end of Fantasy Week 5 (Nov. 2-8). He is off to a disappointing start, but has the talent to be a must-start option if he can go on a hot run of play.
News:The Columbus Dispatch reports X-rays on the hands of defenseman Fedor Tyutin and center Derick Brassard came back negative on Monday. Neither player will practice on Tuesday, but they are expected to play Wednesday against the Sharks.
Analysis: Brassard was slashed by Washington's Mike Knuble in the third period on Saturday, but returned after a few minutes to assist on the game-tying goal with 23 seconds left. He later said he had a hard time gripping the stick, but it appears he is making enough progress to be considered a low-risk start for Week 5 (Nov. 2-8). Brassard has a point in three straight games, but he has definitely had a disappointing start after being a top Calder candidate in 2008-09 before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. Brassard has a ton of Fantasy potential, but he should be considered a low-end option until his breakout run.
News:Derick Brassard had the lone goal for the Blue Jackets during a 4-1 loss to the Coyotes on Wednesday. He opened the scoring on a power-play marker 18:21 into the first for his second goal. It was also his first point in four games.
Analysis: We are just a few weeks into the season and Brassard has already had a rollercoaster affair. He has seven points in 11 games, but has bounced all over the place. The Blue Jackets have said they are going to treat Brassard as a first-year player until he proves he can go up against No. 1 centers on a nightly basis. That kind of stinks for Fantasy owners who want to treat Brassard as a sleeper candidate. Brassard is a low-end Fantasy option until he becomes a regular contributor to the stat column.
News:The Sports Xchange reports in the wake of two straight shoddy outings, Blue Jackets coach Ken Hitchcock didn't just tweak his club's forward lines, he dismantled them. All four lines were shuffled for Saturday's game in Anaheim, but the most notable change was on the No. 1 line, where Jason Chimera replaced Kristian Huselius at left wing and R.J. Umberger took Derick Brassard's spot at center. Only right winger Rick Nash remained in his position, but the moves generated at least short-term success: The Blue Jackets earned a 6-4 win over the Ducks. Huselius dropped to the second line, but Brassard tumbled all the way to the fourth line. It's the second time this season Brassard has lost his spot on the No. 1 line. Last time, he was back next to Nash only one game later. This time, it could be at least a few games longer.
Analysis: It's the second time this season Brassard has lost his spot on the No. 1 line. Last time, he was back next to Nash only one game later. This time, it could be at least a few games longer. Brassard missed 51 games last season after suffering a season-ending shoulder injury in December. He did have a point in four straight games before going without one in his last two.
News: Blue Jackets C Derick Brassard scored a goal, tallied an assist and finished at minus-2 during Tuesday's game against the Flames. Columbus converted its two-man advantage 25 seconds into the second period. Brassard's shot from the blue line through R.J. Umberger's screen at 52 seconds made it 3-2. The Blue Jackets tied it 48 seconds later when Brassard set up Jakub Voracek, who roofed a shot while Miikka Kiprusoff was trapped out of position.
Analysis: Brassard has one goal and four assists during a four-game point streak. He is finally settling into a rhythm after struggling to begin the season. Columbus has bounced him between the first and second lines, but the team has high hopes for Brassard and that doesn't mean just short term. Consider Brassard a sleeper in all Fantasy formats.
News:The Sports Xchange reports Blue Jackets C Derick Brassard is on the board with his first point of the season, an assist on Rick Nash's goal Saturday in Phoenix. Brassard went without a point in the first three games of the season.
Analysis: Brassard was recently demoted to the second line before rejoining the top line Saturday. The Blue Jackets have said they will move Brassard between the top two lines, so he doesn't always have a bad matchup. Even though he played well before injuring his shoulder last season, Columbus is still treating Brassard as a rookie in some aspects. Brassard is a great young talent, but is still more of a No. 5 or No. 6 Fantasy forward until he heats up.
News: The Columbus Dispatch reports that Blue Jackets Cs Antoine Vermette and Derick Brassard have switched places, with Vermette jumping up to the top line alongside Rick Nash and Kristian Huselius, while Brassard drops to the second line with Nikita Filatov and Jakub Voracek.
Analysis: Vermette played well last season after coming over from Ottawa and could see plenty of scoring opportunities playing on the top line. See how he does in these next couple of games befor thinking about inserting him into your lineup in deeper leagues for Fantasy Week 2 (Oct. 12-18). Brassard has potential if he can stay healthy, so keep him active in deeper leagues unless this move stifles his output.

Analysis: The 22-year-old Brassard had 10 goals and 15 assists in 31 games in 2008-09 before the shoulder injury ended his campaign. The Blue Jackets are hoping Brassard can return to the solid early-season he displayed last season, as well as be the point man on the power play. Brassard is an injury-risk Fantasy sleeper heading into 2009-10.
News: The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed center Derick Brassard to a four-year, $12.8 million contract extension through the 2013-14 season. Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson announced the signing Friday, lauding Brassard's passion and talent.
Analysis: The 22-year-old Brassard had 10 goals and 15 assists in 31 games in 2008-09 before a dislocated shoulder ended his season in December. Brassard was Columbus' first pick, and sixth overall, in the 2006 draft. At the time of his injury, he led NHL rookies in points. He was rookie of the month in October. The Blue Jackets are hoping Brassard can return to that form early in the season, as well as be the point man on the power play. Brassard is an injury-risk Fantasy sleeper heading into 2009-10.
News:The Sports Xchange reports Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson said he would be content to start the 2009-10 season with the same top six defensemen as last season, even though there's not a true power play quarterback in the lot. If Howson doesn't sign a free agent or can't swing a trade between now and the start of the season, the Jackets might consider playing center Derick Brassard on the point.
Analysis: Playing Brasard heavily on the power play is not such a bad option. He really needs to get his confidence and rhythm back after missing more than half of the season with a shoulder injury. Brassard was rolling in 2008-09 with 25 points (10 goals) in his first 31 games before suffering the season-ending injury. Seven of his points came on the power play. Brassard is a big-time injury-risk Fantasy sleeper heading into 2009-10.
News:The Columbus Dispatch reports injured Columbus center Derick Brassard, who has been out since December with injury, will have a check-up on his surgically repaired shoulder Tuesday. If all goes well, Brassard is expected to be cleared to start skating with the Blue Jackets Wednesday or Thursday.
Analysis: The Blue Jackets were expecting the rookie forward to miss the remainder of the season after dislocating his shoulder, but it appears as closer they get to the playoffs, Columbus could be looking to add roster depth in the event they have postseason plans. Even if Brassard makes it back for the final games of the season, who knows at what level he will perform. Brassard remains a risky flier for seasonal Fantasy formats, but is still a solid long-term keeper.
News:The Columbus Dispatch reports hockey analyst and commentator Bob McKenzie is overly impressed with the Blue Jackets' depth of young talent despite the fact they lost Derick Brassard to a shoulder injury in December. "It's unfortunate what happened to Derick Brassard because he was right up there among the top two or three in the Calder (Memorial Trophy) race," said McKenzie of Canada's TSN. "But goaltender Steve Mason probably has moved to the head of the class. It's pretty remarkable that one gets hurt and now you have another from the same team."
Analysis: Columbus has a lot of talented young forwards like Nikita Filatov and Jakub Voracek, but Brassard might be the best of the bunch because of his passing skills. There is still no change in his status. He is not expected to dress again in 2008-09 and we are expecting to see Brassard ready for training camp heading into the 2009-10 season. Brassard should be cut in all seasonal Fantasy leagues, but definitely has value in long-term keeper leagues.
News: The Canadian Press reports that Blue Jackets rookie C Derick Brassard is out for the season after he suffered a dislocated shoulder last week that will require season-ending surgery.
Analysis: The 21-year-old Brassard had 25 points this season and was a contender for the Calder Trophy. Now, that quest is down the drain. He should obviously be dropped in all seasonal formats, but remains worth holding on to in all long-term keeper leagues, as he has a bright NHL future ahead of him.
News:The National Post reports Blue Jackets rookie center Derick Brassard might miss a month of action after injuring his shoulder Thursday against the Stars. Brassard suffered the injury during a first-period fight with James Neal and told reporters after the game that he has a separated shoulder and expects to miss three to four weeks.
Analysis: Brassard had a power-play goal before leaving Thursday's 6-5 shootout loss and has totaled six points in nine December games. He is back on track after slumping a bit in November. Brassard is considered a leading candidate for the Calder Trophy (top rookie), but this injury could hurt his chances. He is a decent No. 4 or No. 5 Fantasy forward when healthy.
News: Blue Jackets rookie C Derick Brassard, who had just one assist in his previous seven games, scored and assisted in Sunday's loss to the Ducks.
Analysis: As all rookies do, Brassard will go through slow periods like this on occasion. He has been playing pretty well early on and is still considered a top candidate for the Calder Trophy, so don't give up on Brassard in Fantasy just yet. He remains a nice fill-in option for deeper leagues.
News:The Sports Xchange reports the Blue Jackets elevated R.J. Umberger back to the No. 1 line with wingers Kristian Huselius and Rick Nash. Umberger started in that role at the start of the season but was bumped down when rookie center Derick Brassard took his place.
Analysis: Brassard doesn't have a point in his last four games and is suffering the biggest slump of his second season in the NHL.
