Canucks' Matthias Scores In Game 3 Loss

News: Shawn Matthias scored his first career NHL playoff goal in Sunday's Game 3 loss to Calgary.
Analysis: A good accomplishment for Shawn Matthias, but unfortunately it couldn't help the canucks, as they fell 4-2 and are now trailing the Flames 2-1 in the series. Skating on the third line, Matthias is a decent depth scorer who can pot 10-20 goals in the regular season. With just 10 NHL playoff games under his belt, don't expect the 27-year-old third-liner to be a huge difference maker for the Canucks in these playoffs.

Canucks' Matthias Ready For Playoffs

News: Shawn Matthias (undisclosed injury) indicated Monday that he will be ready for Wednesday's playoff opener against the Flames.
Analysis: Shawn Matthias, who last suited up on April 6, participated in Monday's practice and looks good to go for Wednesday's game on the heels of a campaign in which he notched 18 goals and 27 points in 78 contests.

Canucks' Matthias Ruled Out For Thursday

News: Shawn Matthias (undisclosed) will not play Thursday against the Coyotes, Elliott Pap of the Vancouver Sun reports.
Analysis: Coach Willie Desjardins called Shawn Matthias a game-time decision after meeting with the media after Thursday's practice, but the player himself told reporters he wasn't feeling strong enough yet to play. Sven Baertschi will enter the lineup against the Coyotes, but Matthias seemed optimistic about his chances of reclaiming his spot during Saturday's season finale against the Oilers.

Canucks' Matthias Misses Practice

News: Shawn Matthias (undisclosed) was absent from Wednesday's practice, Jon Abbott of TSN 1040 reports.
Analysis: It's not clear if Shawn Matthias is dealing with any sort of injury or if his absence from Wednesday's practice qualifies as more of a maintenance day. His status should be clarified ahead of Thursday's game against the Coyotes. Regardless, Matthias' recent offensive drought (one point in 11 games) makes him an uninspiring lineup activation in the season's finale week.

Canucks' Matthias Pots Goal In Win

News: Shawn Matthias opened up the scoring with his 18th goal of the season in Monday's 4-1 win over the Blues.
Analysis: Shawn Matthias had gone ice cold after establishing a new career-high point total as Monday's goal marked his first point in seven games. The 27-year-old also creeped closer to an even rating as he now sits a minus-2 on the season, but his value for fantasy purposes lies more in deeper formats.

Canucks' Matthias Collects Point In Victory

News: Shawn Matthias registered an assist Tuesday in a 4-1 win over the Flyers.
Analysis: This was a rare helper for Shawn Matthias, who has been busier finding the back of the net this season. The forward ranks second on the Canucks with 17 goals scored, but he is best reserved for ownership in deeper fantasy pools considering he isn't a factor on the power play and is on track to barely crack the 30-point plateau.

Canucks' Matthias Sets New Career High

News: Shawn Matthias tallied a first-period goal in Thursday's 6-3 loss to the Canucks.
Analysis: The goal was Shawn Matthias' 15th of the season, establishing a new career high for the 27-year-old. Quite remarkably, he's managed to accumulated about half of his output in February, with seven of his goals coming this month. That unforeseen uptick in scoring has enabled Matthias to gain more fantasy relevance in deeper formats, and if he can keep his production up a little longer, he'll soon look more attractive in mid-sized leagues, too.

Canucks' Matthias Delivers Hat Trick Friday

News: Shawn Matthias scored on all three of his shot attempts in Friday's win over the Bruins, earning his first NHL hat trick.
Analysis: Shawn Matthias has seen his ice time in pick up in the wake of Nick Bonino's (foot) absence, and the three-goal effort should put him squarely on the fantasy radar in mid-sized or deeper leagues. Over the last four games, he's found the net five times, representing a quarter of his goal production for the entire season. His recent surge leaves him just one goal shy of tying the career-best total of 14 he established in the lockout-shortened 2012-13 campaign.

Canucks' Matthias Finds Twine Saturday

News: Shawn Matthias potted his ninth goal of the season in Saturday's win over the Penguins.
Analysis: Shawn Matthias has been a nice depth scorer this season, tallying 16 points in 49 games. Currently skating on the second line with Radim Vrbata and Nick Bonino, Matthias could be worth adding in deeper formats while he remains in the top-six. It's unlikely he stays in that role for much longer, but Matthias is still capable of putting together a 15-goal, 30-point season.

Canucks' Matthias Tallies Assist In Win

News: Shawn Matthias registered an assist in Friday's 5-2 win over the Sabres.
Analysis: Shawn Matthias isn't known for his scoring prowess, but he's having one of his better seasons in that respect, as he's currently on pace to best his career-high point total of 24. While the increase in scoring production is nice for Matthias, the 26-year-old center's output is far too erratic for most fantasy owners to trust.

Canucks' Matthias Poised To Return Saturday

News: Shawn Matthias (head) is expected to return to the lineup Saturday against the Rangers.
Analysis: Shawn Matthias practiced Friday and took rushes with the third line during Saturday's morning skate, which should be enough to clear him to play after he was sidelined for the previous two games. The winger has six goals and 11 points in 27 games on the campaign.

Canucks' Matthias Out Of Lineup

News: Updating previous reports, the Canucks will sit Shawn Matthias (head) for Tuesday's game in Montreal.
Analysis: It sounds like he was close enough to be a consideration, but instead the team will play it safe with the veteran and insert Nicklas Jensen into the lineup instead.

Analysis: Shawn Matthias is set to play on the third line with Linden Vey and Brad Richardson.

Canucks' Matthias Questionable For Tuesday

News: Shawn Matthias (head) was on the ice for the Canucks' morning skate but remains questionable to play Tuesday versus the Canadiens, Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province reports.
Analysis: Coach Willie Desjardins said he had no update on the condition of Shawn Matthias, who was held out of Sunday's game against the Senators after taking a shot to the head a night earlier. The Canucks' team doctors will likely evaluate Matthias as the day progresses to determine if he's suffering from any concussion-like symptoms before determining whether or not he'll be able to suit up Tuesday night.

Canucks' Matthias (Head) Will Not Play Sunday

News: Shawn Matthias (head) will not play Sunday against the Senators.
Analysis: Shawn Matthias took an elbow from Stephane Robidas on Saturday, causing him to leave the game in the second period. The Canucks have not released an update on the situation, but Matthias will not play Sunday and should be considered questionable for Tuesday's game.

Matthias Notches Two Points For Canucks

News: Shawn Matthias scored a goal and chipped in an assist in Thursday's 3-0 win over Pittsburgh.
Analysis: Never known for his scoring prowess, Shawn Matthias has nonetheless been hot lately, scoring four goals in the last five games and adding two assists while going plus-6 in that span. His shot rate still isn't special -- he's averaging less than two per game -- but it's still better than it's ever been in his career, so he could at least ramp up into the 30-point range for the first time.

Matthias Adds Goal And Assist To Continue Streak

News: Shawn Matthias tallied a goal and an assist, firing off five shots in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Red Wings.
Analysis: That's now three straight games with a goal for Shawn Matthias, though he scored just two goals before this streak. He's got nine points on the season (five goals, four assists) and is on pace to top his old career-high of 24 points, but not much more.

Canucks' Matthias Picks Up First Goal

News: Shawn Matthias scored his first of the season in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Avalanche.
Analysis: Shawn Matthias has recorded just north of 20 points in each of the last three seasons, and so far has three in his first 13 contests. Topping his career high of 24 seems like a possibility, but not too much more than that.

Canucks' Matthias Tallies Three Points

News: Shawn Matthias scored a goal, had two assists, and was a plus-3 against the Sabres on Sunday.
Analysis: This gives Shawn Matthias only 11 goals and 21 points in 68 games, and he's still a minus-1 on the season. He may set a career high in points this year, but that's only because his prior high is 24 points.

Matthias On Board For Vancouver

News: Shawn Matthias scored his first goal for Vancouver since the Roberto Luongo trade, tallying one of the Canucks' three goals in Friday's loss to Washington.
Analysis: Shawn Matthias has been seeing over 17 minutes per game since his arrival in Vancouver, but likely won't light up the scoreboard for the Canucks. He's a solid two-way player who is worth more to Vancouver than most rosters.

Matthias Shines In His Canucks Debut

News: Shawn Matthias impressed in his Canucks debut on Thursday, leading all players with seven shots on goal, while logging 16:24 of ice time.
Analysis: Though the Canucks lost 6-1, coach John Tortorella praised Shawn Matthias, saying the 26-year-old was probably the team's best forward on Thursday. He centered the third line against Dallas, winning nine of 14 draws. Matthias has nine goals and 16 points in 60 games this season, and should give a boost to a Canucks team that has lost 11 of their last 12 games.

Panthers Send Matthias To Canucks

News: Shawn Matthias was traded to the Canucks on Tuesday as a part of the Roberto Luongo deal, Elliotte Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada reports.
Analysis: Shawn Matthias' inclusion in the deal is likely just for the purpose of making contracts match up in what amounts to mostly a salary dump for the Canucks. The 26-year-old had 16 points in 59 games with the Panthers and should occupy a bottom-six role for his new club.

Panthers' Matthias Tallies Three Points

News: Shawn Matthias scored two goals and had a helper versus the Islanders on Sunday. He also was a plus-3 and had two penalty minutes.
Analysis: Shawn Matthias has five points, and is a plus-5, in his last two games. However, that only gives him 16 points in 59 games this season, so this looks like nothing more than a nice little stretch.

Panthers' Matthias Returns To Lineup Thursday

News: Shawn Matthias played 9:56 in Thursday night's 6-3 loss to Toronto after missing Tuesday's game with an illness.
Analysis: Shawn Matthias has been an utter disappointment this year with only 10 points to show for 52 games played. He should remain on the free agent wire unless you're absolutely desperate. He is barely a viable option for daily leagues at the moment.

Panthers' Matthias Kept Out Tuesday

News: Shawn Matthias will miss Tuesday's game with the flu, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.
Analysis: Shawn Matthias was battling the illness at morning skate and will be held out with Tomas Kopecky (shoulder) returning from IR. Look for Matthias to be ready to play again before the week's out.
