Wings' Mursak Making Progress

News: Jan Mursak (ankle) skated on his own prior to Monday's practice and believes he's two-to-three weeks away from a return, MLive.com reports.
Analysis: "I actually feel pretty good just cruising around, but I need to get back into hockey shape," Jan Mursak said. "I've been working hard in the gym the whole time that I was injured, but the ankle still needs to get back into hockey shape to be totally ready. I'd say that I'm probably about 50-60 percent ready." Once healthy, Mursak will likely handle a fourth-line role and could be forced to compete for minutes given the Wings' lack of injuries thus far.

I still can't put much weight on my toes, but it's getting better every day." Mursak will resume skating within the next couple of weeks, but it will take him some time to build up his conditioning and strength again before he's game-ready.

Wings' Mursak Out Three Months

News: Jan Mursak (ankle) is now expected to be out closer to three months than the previous estimate of two, MLive.com reports.
Analysis: Ultimately, this injury could cost him most of the first half of the regular season as it could be difficult for the speedy forward to solidify his place in the rotation once he's healthy again in December.

Wings' Mursak Likely Out Two Months

News: Jan Mursak will likely miss two months after suffering a non-displaced fracture of his left ankle in Sunday's preseason win over Chicago, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Analysis: "It's unfortunate for him, a guy that had a real good chance to make our club, that he's going to start behind the eight-ball," head coach Mike Babcock said. "It's tough when you're a kid. It's tough missing the start. It's hard to catch up." While Jan Mursak may have been limited in his role with the Wings, the injury could make it more difficult for him to crack the lineup upon returning in mid-late November.
