Canucks' Sestito Exits Practice, But OK For Trip

News: Tom Sestito left Thursday's practice with a sore hip flexor but said he will be fine to play during the team's upcoming five-game road trip, Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province reports.
Analysis: The fourth-liner will probably just receive extra treatment over the next few days but isn't expected to miss any game action. Tom Sestito potted his fifth goal of the season Wednesday against the Blackhawks, but didn't spend any time in the box to add to his league-leading 167 penalty minutes.

Sestito Piles Up PIM In Canucks' Line Brawl

News: Tom Sestito was one of ten players who received 15 penalty minutes apiece just two seconds into Saturday's game against Calgary. He managed to skate 11 more shifts without incident in the Canucks' 3-2 victory.
Analysis: The line brawl was something to behold, but it was just another day at the office (penalty-box branch) for Tom Sestito, who leads the NHL with 167 PIM.

Canucks' Sestito Sets Up Shot In Penalty Box

News: Tom Sestito racked up 22 penalty minutes in Wednesday's 9-1 collapse at the hands of the Ducks.
Analysis: With the Canucks trailing 6-1 after two periods, the team resorted to goonery in the third, with Tom Sestito leading the charge. Sestito was one of three players ejected for the Canucks on a night they compiled 73 penalty minutes as a team. Incredibly, Sestito has 49 PIM over his last two games and leads the league with 152, 43 more than the next player. He's gold in fantasy leagues that reward such behavior.

More Sin Bin Time For Canucks' Sestito

News: Tom Sestito was tagged with nine penalty minutes in Vancouver's 5-1 loss at Los Angeles on Saturday.
Analysis: He wasn't hired for his shooting prowess or his passing touch. His 43 PIMs lead all Vancouver skaters.

Canucks' Sestito Signs On For Two More Years

News: Tom Sestito will return to Vancouver on a two-year deal.
Analysis: Tom Sestito was claimed off waivers in February and contributed just one point in 23 games with Vancouver. He spent 152 minutes on the ice and 53 minutes in the penalty box, fully living up to his reputation as an enforcer.

Vancouver's Sestito Sent Off Early

News: Tom Sestito skated all of 27 seconds Saturday before finding himself in a fight with Calgary's Brian McGrattan. The zebras slapped Sestito with five minutes for the fight, plus 10 minutes for misconduct and two more for instigating.
Analysis: It's always nice to open up the box scores and find a month's worth of penalty minutes in a single contest. Tom Sestito has 51 PIMs in his 18 starts since the Canucks claimed him off waivers at the end of February.

Canucks' Sestito Plays Thursday

News: Tom Sestito (lower body) saw 8:13 worth of ice time Thursday against the Coyotes.
Analysis: Tom Sestito was limping noticeably Wednesday, but he was able to play Thursday, recording two penalty minutes in the process, which brings his season total in that category to 36 in 17 games.

Canucks' Sestito Dealing With Lower Body Injury

News: Tom Sestito (lower body) was limping noticeably Wednesday, the Vancouver Province reports.
Analysis: It's unclear is Tom Sestito tweaked the hip injury he was bothered by earlier this month or if this is a new ailment. He's questionable for Thursday's tilt against the Coyotes.

Canucks' Sestito Not Slowed Down By Hip Injury

News: Tom Sestito, who had been dealing with a hip injury, logged six minutes of ice time in Sunday's loss to the Wild.
Analysis: Tom Sestito tweaked his hip during an optional practice Friday, but he was able to play his normal limited role without any apparent complications. The low-scoring grinder is safe to deploy if you're using him to rack up penalty minutes.

Sestito Heads Straight To Penalty Box In Vancouver

News: Tom Sestito picked up a five-minute fighting major Saturday in his first game with the Canucks. He didn't show any signs of the lower-body injury that he sustained last week during a conditioning assignment.
Analysis: This is why the team claimed him off waivers. It's hard to make a confident projection of ice time for a fringe player on a new team, but we suspect that the Canucks will encourage his physical play as a way of protecting their elite scorers.

Canucks Claim Sestito Off Waivers

News: The Canucks claimed Tom Sestito off waivers from the Flyers on Friday, TSN's Darren Dreger reports.
Analysis: Tom Sestito has not appeared in an NHL game since Feb. 11, but he will jump back onto a roster after being claimed by Vancouver. Sestito will be the extra forward for the Canucks, so don't expect him to play a major role with his new squad.

Flyers Place Sestito On Waivers

News: Tom Sestito (lower body) was placed on waivers on Thursday, CSN Philly reports.
Analysis: Tom Sestito has been a healthy scratch since Feb. 11, spending most of that time with AHL Adirondack on a conditioning assignment. He'll likely remain in the minors and receive more regular playing time than he would with the Flyers.

Flyers' Sestito Suffers Injury During Conditioning Stint In AHL

News: Tom Sestito suffered a lower body injury during a conditioning stint with AHL Adirondack, the South Jersey Courier-Post reports.
Analysis: Tom Sestito will be reevaluated Saturday by the Flyers to assess the extent of the injury. If the injury checks out as minor, Sestito likely be recalled by the Flyers in the near future once he's back to full speed.

Flyers' Sestito Assigned To AHL

News: The Flyers have assigned Tom Sestito to their AHL affiliate for conditioning purposes, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Tom Sestito has two goals in seven games with the Flyers, but has yet to play since February 11. This stint in the AHL will freshen Sestito up and he will likely be recalled in the near future.

Sestito Carries Flyers To Win

News: Tom Sestito provided all the offense the Flyers needed Tuesday night, scoring both their goals in a 2-1 win over Tampa Bay.
Analysis: With the two tallies, Tom Sestito doubled his career goal total. Don't get caught up in this offensive explosion, as he's still not much more than an enforcer.

Sestito May See Ice Time

News: Tom Sestito may see his first action of the season according to Sam Carchidi of The Philadephia Inquirer
Analysis: Tom Sestito may be thrust into the lineup to fill the enforcer role, with the loss of Zac Rinaldo to injury. The big left-winger doesn't bring much to the table unless your league rewards you for penalty minutes.

Philadelphia Brings Back Sestito

News: Tom Sestito agreed to a one-year, $605,000 deal with Philadelphia on Monday, CSN Philly's Tim Panaccio reports.
Analysis: As the modest price tag implies, Tom Sestito is nothing more than a potential enforcement specialist.

Flyers Move Sestito (Groin) To Long-Term IR

News: Tom Sestito was placed on the long-term injured reserve list by the Flyers, according to PHilly.com.
Analysis: Tom Sestito's timetable for a return (6-8 weeks remains) the same, but the move allows the Flyers to clear cap room.

Sestito Out 6-to-8 Weeks For Philly

News: Tom Sestito (torn groin muscle) will miss 6-to-8 weeks, PhiladelphiaFlyers.com reports.
Analysis: Tom Sestito normally wouldn't be much of a loss, but with Daniel Briere's status unclear, the injury is especially ill-timed.

Flyers' Sestito Hurt Thursday

News: Tom Sestito has left Thursday's game with a lower body injury and will not return, according to the Sabres' game broadcast.
Analysis: Tom Sestito got into it with Buffalo's Zach Kassian, who's a pretty tough customer. Both players appeared to be roughed up after the tussle, but Sestito probably got the worst of it because Kassian returned to action. The Flyers also lost Danny Briere to injury in this one, so the forward ranks have certainly taken a hit with Jaromir Jagr already out.

Flyers Recall Sestito

News: Tom Sestito was recalled by the Flyers on Saturday, the Philadelphia Daily News reports.
Analysis: Sesito played three games with the Flyers earlier this season, earning an average of eight minutes of ice time in those games. He can rack up the penalty minutes in bunches, so watch to see how much time he gets during this call-up.

Flyers' Sestito Suspended Two Regular Season Games

News: Tom Sestito has been suspended for the rest of the preseason and two regular season NHL games, the Flyers' official Twitter feed reports.
Analysis: Ultimately, this could prevent him from opening the year with the big club, but whenever he gets a shot, the Flyers will have to play two games without him in the lineup.

Flyers' Sestito Facing Suspension?

Sestito Re-Ups With Flyers

News: The Flyers have re-signed Sestito, phillysportsdaily.com reports.
Analysis: The 6-5, 209-pound Sestito managed four points and 40 PIMs in nine games with Columbus this past season. In 57 AHL games split between Springfield and Adirondack, he racked up 237 penalty minutes, so while he's viewed as a player with a little upside on offense, he earns his keep primarily with his toughness.

Flyers Acquire Sestito From Jackets

News: The Flyers traded Greg Moore and Michael Chaput to the Blue Jackets for Sestito on Monday, PhiladelphiaFlyers.com reports. The deal is pending NHL approval.
Analysis: Sestito is an enforcer with some offensive upside, recording 32 points in 46 AHL games this season and four points in a nine-game NHL stint. Penalty minutes are his primary source of value, however, so even if he cracks the lineup in Philly, he's unlikely to be worth owning. He'll report to the AHL initially.
