Sabres' Stewart Looks Like A Scratch

News: Chris Stewart remained on the ice after Tuesday's morning skate and looks like he could be a healthy scratch for the Sabres' game against the Kings, John Vogl of the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Chris Stewart has struggled all season long for the Sabres, producing just three goals and four points over 27 games. His uninspired play of late has prompted coach Ted Nolan to give him less than 10 minutes in each of the previous two contests, and now it looks like he'll head off to the press box for the first time this season. Patrick Kaleta will replace him on Buffalo's fourth line.

Sabres' Stewart Scores In Loss

News: Chris Stewart notched his team's only goal in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Jets.
Analysis: The goal gave Chris Stewart his first point in his last nine games, as the once productive fantasy winger seems to have vanished since being acquired by the Sabres. He does have 20 PIM, but his minus-11 rating makes him a rather unattractive option at this point.

Sabres' Stewart Nets First Goal

News: Chris Stewart scored a game tying goal in the third period of Sunday's 3-2 shootout win over the Red Wings.
Analysis: That was Chris Stewart's first goal in 33 games, almost ten full months since he scored last season. It was a big relief for the big power forward who has struggled since his 28-goal campaign four years ago. Stewart's still got plenty of potential and has been a staple in the rumor mill with Ottawa and Boston reportedly interested. The Sabres are hoping he can keep this up to bump up his trade value since general manager Tim Murray seems like a guy who wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger if the right deal came along.

Sabres' Stewart Bumped To Top Line

News: Chris Stewart is the newest right winger on the top line with center Tyler Ennis and left winger Matt Moulson, reports The Buffalo News.
Analysis: Chris Stewart has fired 26 shots on goal in nine games but has just one assist to show for his efforts. As one of Buffalo's biggest and strongest forwards, head coach Ted Nolan is hoping that he can open up some more space for Ennis and Moulson to generate some offense. Stewart's name has been a constant in the rumor mill of late and the hapless Sabres aren't in playoff contention, which may lend to the belief that the Sabres are showcasing Stewart for an eventual trade. Stewart is five years removed from a 28-goal season and still has lots of potential. He is a very risky play in fantasy at the moment but his value will certainly get a boost should he be traded.

Sabres' Stewart Continues Early Season Struggles

News: Chris Stewart fired seven shots on goal, but was held without a point in a loss to the Kings on Thursday.
Analysis: Chris Stewart has yet to score this year, and has registered just one point in eight games. However, he leads the Sabres and ranks 12th in the league with 26 shot attempts, suggesting that his first goal may not be far away. If he can continue to create shot opportunities for himself and gradually approach his career 13.1 percent shooting rate, the points could begin to pick up steadily for Stewart.

Bruins Interested In Sabres' Stewart

News: The Bruins are interested in acquiring Chris Stewart, reports theScore.
Analysis: The Bruins have been looking for a top-six right winger following the departures of Jarome Iginla and Nathan Horton. Chris Stewart, a bruising power forward, plays a similar straight-ahead style, but lacks the goal-scoring pedigree of Iginla and Horton. Still, it could be a good fit. Stewart's style of play fits perfectly with the Bruins and his stock will skyrocket if he gets first look on David Krejci's line. Stewart is also reportedly in high demand by other teams. It's safe to assume that everyone is available on the Sabres as they continue their re-build. Stewart has zero goals in 11 career games with Buffalo.

Sabres' Stewart (Lower Body) Will Miss Finale

News: Chris Stewart will miss the Sabres' season finale with a lower-body injury.
Analysis: Chris Stewart missed a little over a month with an ankle injury before returning on Tuesday. The winger will not record a point with the Sabres this season after being traded on Feb. 28. He will have to wait for next season to light the lamp for Buffalo.

Sabres' Stewart Leaves With Lower-Body Injury

News: Chris Stewart left Saturday's contest with a lower-body injury and will not return.
Analysis: Chris Stewart was questionable to return for any of the regular season after suffering a right ankle injury on March 6. He finally returned to the lineup on April 8 before leaving Saturday's game. The report doesn't indicate if the injury is related to the ankle ailment that cost him a month, but Stewart's season is likely over with just one meaningless game remaining for the Sabres.

Sabres' Stewart To Play Tuesday

News: Chris Stewart (ankle) will play Tuesday against the Red Wings, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.
Analysis: Expected to miss the rest of the season after suffering the ankle injury two games into his tenure with the Sabres, Chris Stewart decided to push for a return even with Buffalo playing for nothing more than pride at this point. He'll skate on the right wing alongside Tyler Ennis and Marcus Foligno and might be worth picking up in deeper leagues for the final week if he was dropped by a fantasy owner who didn't expect him back before season's end.

Sabres' Stewart Could Return To Action On Tuesday

News: Chris Stewart (ankle) could return to action as soon as Tuesday against the Red Wings, the Times Herald reports.
Analysis: Chris Stewart has been out since March 6 and while there was talk that the Sabres might shut him down for the season, a return for the team's last few games now seems possible.

Sabres' Stewart Hasn't Ruled Out Return

News: Chris Stewart (ankle) hasn't written off returning to the ice for the Sabres this season, Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Chris Stewart was on the ice for Thursday's morning skate, and while he won't be playing against the Blues, he could set his sights on returning for one of the Sabres' final games of the season. Coach Ted Nolan had suggested a few weeks ago that Stewart would more than likely be shut down for the rest of 2013-14, but those plans could change if he makes further strides in his recovery within the next few days.

Sabres' Stewart Still Not Close

News: Chris Stewart (ankle) will not accompany the Sabres on their upcoming road trip that starts Tuesday at Calgary, according to John Vogl of The Buffalo News.
Analysis: It's a five-game trip, though we'll note the Sabres mentioned Tyler Myers could possibly jump in at some point while nothing was mentioned about Chris Stewart. So it seems like he's out for at least a couple more weeks. Coach Ted Nolan previously implied it would be a surprise if Buffalo's recent acquisition got in any more games the rest of the way.

Sabres' Stewart Could Be Done For The Season

News: Chris Stewart (ankle) could be done for the season, The Buffalo News reports. "Stewart doesn't look good right now," interim coach Ted Nolan said. "There are only five weeks left in the year and his injury is four-to-five weeks."
Analysis: Based on the timetable outlined by Nolan, it looks like Chris Stewart's season will come to a close after 60 games, over which he has scored 26 points. Stewart did not record a point in two games for the Sabres after being acquired in the deal that sent Ryan Miller to the Blues.

Sabres' Stewart Out At Least Another Week

News: Chris Stewart (ankle) will be out for at least another week, according to interim coach Ted Nolan.
Analysis: After enduring immense trade talk at the deadline, Chris Stewart remained a Sabre, but then suffered an ankle injury during Thursday's game against the Lightning. Nolan says it's at least a week, but it could be much longer. The team will continue to update his condition throughout the week.

Sabres' Stewart (Ankle) Out Friday

News: Chris Stewart (ankle) is out for Friday's game against the Florida Panthers, Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Sabres coach Ted Nolan reportedly said that a couple of his players may be dealing with season-ending injuries, but the coach declined to specify who he might be referring to. Torrey Mitchell (foot) and Zemgus Girgensons (lower body) are also out Friday, making it rather unclear whether Chris Stewart is one of the players in question. Until more information is available, Stewart is somewhere between day-to-day and out for the season, with that range of possibilities being of little use to fantasy owners facing tough roster decisions.

Sabres' Stewart (Ankle) Doubtful For Friday

News: Chris Stewart suffered a right ankle injury and is doubtful for Friday's game against the Panthers, Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Chris Stewart logged 16:40 of ice time in Thursday's win over the Lightning but apparently came out of the game with an injury. It sounds like he'll miss one contest, at the very least.

Sabres' Stewart Stays Put

News: Despite strong speculation that Chris Stewart would be traded at the deadline, no deals materialized and he will stay a Buffalo Sabre for the time being.
Analysis: The Senators made no secret they coveted the big power forward, but could not come to an agreement with the Sabres. With term remaining on his contract, Chris Stewart has value for the Sabres going forward. Though he struggles with inconsistency, he is still a capable 20-25 goal scorer who will get a chance to play in the top-six for Buffalo. Head coach Ted Nolan likes playing an aggressive, physical game, and Stewart fits the bill. He will most likely play alongside Cody Hodgson. His plus-minus may not be pretty on a team that will finish close to last next year, but he provides good value in other categories for a potential mid- to late-round pick.

Sabres' Stewart Debuts Monday

News: Chris Stewart will likely skate with Cody Hodgson on one of the Bruins's scoring lines Monday against Dallas, reports the Olean Times Herald.
Analysis: Chris Stewart will play with Hodgson and get a chance to produce offensively. If he does, his trade value could increase, which would be good news for Buffalo. The third forward on that line is expected to be Matt Moulson; Stewart and Moulson were rumored to be a package deal a few days ago, with Ottawa the likely destination.

Stewart To Make Sabres Debut Monday

News: Chris Stewart will make his Buffalo Sabres debut Monday against Dallas, reports John Vogl of The Buffalo News.
Analysis: Chris Stewart isn't expected to stay a Buffalo Sabre for long, but he will play in as many games as needed before he moves to his new team, with Ottawa rumored to be a likely destination. The big power winger will bring some size and scoring to the Sabres' lineup for the time being, but his fantasy value is tough to gauge until he finds out where he's headed to next. Going to Ottawa will be a boost -- he is likely to play a bigger role than he did in St. Louis or will play in Buffalo. No word on which line Stewart will play on, but with right wingers Drew Stafford and Matt D'Agostini having trouble scoring, Stewart should be able to help in a top-six role.

Sabres Could Package Stewart To Ottawa

News: The Sabres acquired Chris Stewart in a five-player swap Friday, but he may be headed to Ottawa before the deadline, reports TSN's Bob McKenzie.
Analysis: Chris Stewart may play the type of aggressive, physical game head coach Ted Nolan likes, but may not get the chance if he gets dealt to the Senators. The big power forward doesn't come cheap with a $4.15 million cap hit, and for barely 20 goals a season, it's not exactly the type of investment the Sabres want to make. The Sabres will certainly ask for picks and prospects in return; general manager Tim Murray knows the Sens' prospects quite well, having worked for the team prior to joining the Sabres.

Blues Trade Stewart, Halak To Sabres

News: Chris Stewart has been traded to Buffalo in a blockbuster deal. The Blues get Ryan Miller and Steve Ott, while the Sabres will receive Stewart, goalie Jaroslav Halak, prospect William Carrier, a first-round pick in 2015, and another conditional pick.
Analysis: Chris Stewart brings some size and skill to the Buffalo lineup as the Sabres hold a fire sale. The 26-year-old power forward has 15 goals and 112 penalty minutes on the season. Sabres head coach Ted Nolan loves playing an aggressive, hard-hitting game, and Stewart is the type of player who will excel in this kind of system. Stewart will undoubtedly be used in a scoring role with the Sabres sitting dead last in league scoring, but won't have the quality of linemates he had in St. Louis. Unfortunately for Stewart owners, his fantasy value dips after this trade.

Blues' Stewart Struggling Of Late

News: Chris Stewart is in the midst of a streak of 13 games without a goal for St. Louis.
Analysis: Chris Stewart has always been an up-and-down player but this latest stretch has been pretty dismal. Not only has he not lit the lamp, he is minus-8 over the last 13 games. He will help you in penalty minutes as he sports over 100 for the season.

Blues' Stewart To Play Thursday

News: Chris Stewart (face) will return to action Thursday against the Kings.
Analysis: Chris Stewart won't miss any further time after he was forced to exit Tuesday's game after taking a puck to the face. The forward is enjoying a rather productive campaign to this point, with 13 goals and nine assists in 39 games.

Blues Stewart Exits Tuesday's Game

News: Chris Stewart will not return to Tuesday's game against the Wild after getting hit in the face with a puck in the first period.
Analysis: Chris Stewart, who saw just 1:25 worth of ice time prior to his exit, checks in with 22 points, 73 PIM and a healthy plus-11 in 39 games to date.

Stewart's Hat Trick Fuels Blues' Romp

News: Chris Stewart scored three goals and added an assist as the Blues crushed the Oilers in Edmonton on Saturday night, 6-0.
Analysis: He has somehow managed to score eight goals on his last 11 shots. Until the clock strikes midnight and he turns back into a pumpkin, it would be a good idea to roll him every time he suits up.
