Sudden Scoring Surge For Canes' Dwyer

News: Patrick Dwyer registered his third point in four games with an assist in Monday's 4-1 win over Toronto.
Analysis: Sadly, Patrick Dwyer's current scoring surge only brings him to eight points on the season, and is not likely to be sustained while he's seeing fourth-line ice time. While this offense is nice to see, Dwyer still holds little to no fantasy value outside of very deep formats.

Canes' Dwyer Scores In Win

News: Patrick Dwyer potted his third goal of the season in Sunday's 2-1 win over the Bruins.
Analysis: Patrick Dwyer has struggled mightily this year with just five points, but he was able to get on the scoresheet for the first time in four games and score his first goal since November. The 31-year-old doesn't have much value for fantasy purposes and isn't on track to surpass last season's total of 22 points.

Canes' Dwyer Struggling To Add Offense

News: Patrick Dwyer was held off the scoresheet for the fifth consecutive game Monday against the Devils. He has just two goals and no assists through 21 games so far this season.
Analysis: After scoring a career-high 22 points last season, Patrick Dwyer will be lucky to hit double-digits this year at the rate he's going. Anyone who drafted him as a sleeper pick in deeper formats has to be disappointed with his output so far. Feel free to bench him (or drop him altogether) and scout your waiver wire for more viable alternatives.

Hurricanes' Dwyer Bags First Goal

News: Patrick Dwyer scored his first goal of the season in Tuesday's win over the Stars.
Analysis: Patrick Dwyer missed much of October with a groin concern, but he's been a regular player for the Hurricanes since returning to action Nov. 1. Unfortunately, because he remains confined to a bottom-six role, he hasn't had much of an opportunity to produce on the offensive end. He's averaging less than a shot per game in his 12 contests.

Hurricanes Activate Dwyer

News: Patrick Dwyer (lower body) was activated from injured reserve Saturday.
Analysis: Patrick Dwyer is set to rejoin the lineup Saturday against the Coyotes after the lower-body ailment cost him the last six games. He's tentatively slated to serve as the right wing on the third line, skating alongside Jay McClement and Brad Malone.

Carolina's Dwyer On Track For Weekend Return

News: Coach Bill Peters said Patrick Dwyer (lower body) is expected to return over the weekend.
Analysis: Patrick Dwyer was cleared for contact earlier this week and should get in enough practice time before the weekend to be a lineup option for the Hurricanes. The winger appeared in just two games before suffering the injury Oct. 11.

Carolina's Dwyer Cleared To Take Contact

News: Patrick Dwyer (lower body) shed his no-contact jersey at Tuesday's morning skate.
Analysis: Patrick Dwyer hasn't been available since Oct. 11 due to a lower-body injury, but the fact that he's been cleared for contact is a sign that a return could be forthcoming. The Hurricanes will have a three-day break in their schedule before their next game Saturday against the Coyotes. If Dwyer shows no limitations during practices over the next few days, he could have an outside shot at returning to the lineup for the weekend.

Hurricanes Place Dwyer on Injured Reserve

News: The Hurricanes placed Patrick Dwyer (lower body) on injured reserve Wednesday, retroactive to Oct. 11.
Analysis: Patrick Dwyer appeared in two games before suffering the injury Saturday. The Hurricanes have not provided much in terms of details regarding Dwyer's status, so it remains to be seen how long he will be sidelined.

Canes' Dwyer Out For Tuesday

News: Patrick Dwyer (lower body) will not be in the lineup Tuesday against the Sabres, Michael Smith of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Patrick Dwyer joins Eric Staal (upper body) and Jeff Skinner (concussion) on the list of Hurricanes who will be inactive Tuesday. There is no timetable for his return at this point.

Canes' Dwyer Misses Practice

News: Patrick Dwyer (lower body) did not practice with the team Monday, Michael Smith of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Patrick Dwyer left Saturday's game with a lower body injury that may have been a reaggravation of his previous groin injury. The 'Canes are already riddled with injuries, so the loss of Dwyer would certainly hurt.

Canes' Dwyer Leaves Game Saturday

News: Patrick Dwyer left Saturday night's game with a lower body injury and did not return.
Analysis: The news is certainly troubling, since Patrick Dwyer was a game time decision Saturday with a groin injury. There's no official word on the nature of his injury yet, but he could certainly end up missing some time if it's his groin that's bothering him once again.

Hurricanes' Dwyer Looks To Be In Lineup Friday

News: Patrick Dwyer (groin) was on the ice for morning skate and looks set to play Friday against the Islanders, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: He'll skate on the Canes' third line, joining Brad Malone and Jay McClement. Patrick Dwyer tallied eight goals and 14 assists over 75 games last season with Carolina, production that's probably not good enough to justify rostering him in most leagues.

Hurricanes' Dwyer On Track To Play Friday

News: Patrick Dwyer (groin) is on track to play in Friday's season opener, Michael Smith of the Hurricanes' website reports.
Analysis: Patrick Dwyer has shown gradual improvement throughout the week, and he finally shed his no-contact jersey Thursday, which indicates he is feeling good enough to skate without restriction. Expect the Hurricanes to provide an official update on his status following Friday's morning skate.

Canes' Dwyer (Groin) Could Return Friday

News: Patrick Dwyer (groin) was at Wednesday's practice wearing a no-contact yellow jersey, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: If Patrick Dwyer is given the green light to play in Friday's season opener against the Islanders, he would likely line up on the Canes' third line with Jay McClement and Patrick Brown. Dwyer scored a career-high 22 points in 75 games last year, giving him fantasy value in deeper leagues only.

Hurricanes' Dwyer Still Slowed By Groin Injury

News: Patrick Dwyer (groin) skated on his own Tuesday but remains day-to-day, Michael Smith of the Hurricanes' website reports.
Analysis: Patrick Dwyer has been slowed by a sore groin the last couple weeks; and with him still feeling soreness and unable to practice, he may not be ready for Friday's season opener against the Islanders.

Canes' Dwyer Nursing Sore Groin

News: Patrick Dwyer sat out Thursday's practice with a groin injury, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Patrick Dwyer also missed Wednesday's preseason game against the Islanders, presumably for the same reason, after playing the previous night against Buffalo. Dwyer scored a career-high 22 points last season, and is expected to reprise his role on the Canes' third line this year, health permitting.

Canes' Dwyer Notches Two Points

News: Patrick Dwyer picked up a goal and an assist in Tuesday's win over Columbus. He also went plus-2 in the contest.
Analysis: This is rare offense from Patrick Dwyer, who now has all of 18 points on the year. He has rock-bottom fantasy value unless your league counts hits, in which case he has near-rock-bottom fantasy value.

Canes' Dwyer Assists In Win Over Sabres

News: Patrick Dwyer registered an assist against the Sabres on Thursday, his first point in five games.
Analysis: Patrick Dwyer now has 16 points on the season, matching last year's total, and putting him just two points away from his career-high of 18 from three seasons ago. He remains a marginal fantasy play in deeper formats.

Canes' Dwyer A Plus-1 In Return To Lineup

News: Patrick Dwyer (upper body) finished with a plus-1 rating in his return to the ice Friday vs. the Blues.
Analysis: Patrick Dwyer skated for 18:08 in the contest, registering no points but three shots on goal. Friday's game marked his first action since Jan. 22.

Dwyer Practicing With 'Canes Again

News: Patrick Dwyer (upper body) practiced on the third line alongside Nathan Gerbe and Manny Malhotra on Thursday.
Analysis: Patrick Dwyer's sat out six of the Hurricanes' last seven games with the ailment, but it appears there's a chance he could get back in the lineup Friday against St. Louis.

Hurricanes' Dwyer Expected To Play Saturday

News: Patrick Dwyer (lower body) is expected to return to the lineup Saturday vs. the Panthers, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Patrick Dwyer was on the ice for Friday's practice and was a full participant in morning skate Saturday, so it looks like he'll be back in the lineup without having to miss any time. He skated on the second line with Nathan Gerbe and Jordan Staal at morning skate.

Hurricanes' Dwyer Dealing With Lower-Body Injury

News: Patrick Dwyer missed Tuesday's practice with a lower-body injury, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: The Hurricanes won't play again until Saturday, so Patrick Dwyer still has a good deal of time to recover from the injury before the team would determine whether a call-up is needed to take his spot in the lineup. The 30-year-old has been on the second line with Nathan Gerbe and Jordan Staal in recent games, but he hasn't come closing to matching the production of either of those two players.

Carolina's Dwyer: Two Assists In Win

News: Patrick Dwyer set up two Hurricanes goals in a 3-2 win over the Islanders on Saturday night.
Analysis: Wow -- if that was all it took to get him going then we would have called him out sooner than we did. This little outburst may keep him in the NHL ... for now.

Canes’ Dwyer Struggling To Produce

News: Patrick Dwyer has just 10 points in 37 games so far this season.
Analysis: Patrick Dwyer was a decent scorer in the minor leagues, having recorded at least 40 points in three of the four full seasons he played in the AHL, but that success has so far not translated to the NHL level.  He continues to average roughly 15 minutes per night playing on the Canes' second line, but his production is way behind that of his linemates, Jordan Staal and Nathan Gerbe – for example, Staal and Gerbe each have seven points in their last 10 games, while Dwyer has just two. With the 'Canes in the middle of making wholesale changes to their roster, Dwyer could find himself back in the minors or playing for a different team altogether. Feel free to sit him in favor of a more viable fantasy alternative, if you have one.

Canes' Dwyer Returns To Action Monday

News: Patrick Dwyer (upper body) saw 14:02 of ice time in his return to action Monday against the Canucks.
Analysis: It looks like Patrick Dwyer's upper-body injury was only a minor concern, as the winger missed just one game of action due to the ailment. He was held scoreless in Monday's contest, but registered two shots on goal and two hits.
