Karsums assigned to KHL team

News: Lightning RW Martins Karsums was assigned to HC MVD Balashikha of the KHL on Thursday.
Analysis: Karsums playing in the KHL means he can't play in the NHL again until 2010-11. It won't be a big deal in Fantasy since Karsums spent the season in the AHL. He has even been placed on waivers, but Tampa Bay found no takers. Karsums is a former 2004 second-round pick. He was a good junior hockey prospect and did well in the Boston minor league system, but has struggled since joining Tampa Bay late last season. Karsums is nothing more than a long-term Fantasy keeper.

Karsums re-signs with Lightning

News: The Lightning re-signed forward Martins Karsums to a one-year contract Tuesday. Karsums came to Tampa Bay during the 2008-09 trade deadline as part of the trade that sent Mark Recchi to Boston.
Analysis: Karsums totaled one goal and six points in 24 games with Boston and Tampa Bay last season. He had five of those points in 18 games with the Lightning. The Latvian forward has had some success in the minors and could be a player to surprise some folks in 2009-10. However, he still has minimal Fantasy appeal Draft Day.

Karsums scores first goal of season

News: Lightning RW Martins Karsums scored his first goal of the season in Friday's loss to the Devils.
Analysis: Karsums, a former second-round pick, was up and down a lot with Boston, and has no Fantasy value, even with his new team.

Lightning send Recchi to Boston

News: TSN reports that the Lightning have sent RW Mark Recchi and a 2010 second-round pick to the Bruins for D Matt Lashoff and RW Martins Karsums.
Analysis: Recchi, who is set to become a free agent in the offseason, has one goal and seven assists during a current four-game point streak. He has quietly posted 32 assists and 45 points in 2008-09. Recchi used to be a 100-point threat early in his career, but he is at the point in his career where if he makes it to 50 points it's a bonus. This trade certainly helps Recchi's Fantasy value, as the Bruins are a lot better team than Tampa Bay. He remains a low-end option for now, but maybe one worth adding in deeper leagues if you have a spare bench spot, simply because of his potential to be a contributor down the stretch. Lashoff is a nice prospect and could get more of a shot with the Lightning than he was with the Bruins. He remains a keeper option worth considering. Karsums, a second-round pick in 2004, has 41 points in 43 AHL games this season, but has only managed one assist in six NHL games. He is not worth worrying about right now.

Karsums, Sobotka up for Bruins

News: The Bruins have recalled RW Martins Karsums and C Vladimir Sobotka from the AHL.
Analysis: Both of these guys have been up and down a couple of times this season from the AHL. Continue to ignore them in all Fantasy formats.

Karsums down, Sobotka up for B's

News: The Bruins have sent RW Martins Karsums back down to the AHL and have recalled C Vladimir Sobotka.
Analysis: Karsums, a former second-round pick has no Fantasy value at this time. Sobotka is also a non-factor.

Karsums, Bitz assist in debuts

News: Bruins RW Martins Karstums and RW Byron Bitz both picked up an assist in their NHL debuts Saturday as Boston defeated the Hurricanes 5-1.
Analysis: Karsums was having a solid third AHL season with 39 points (16G, 23A) in 38 games before being called up. A second-round pick in 2004, he's worth keeping an eye on in keeper formats while up with the Bruins. Bitz, meanwhile, is more of a checking forward as he had 10 points and 68 PIM in the AHL tihs season. He should be ignored for now.

Bruins call on Karsums, Bitz

News: The Bruins have called up RW Martins Karsums and RW Byron Bitz from Providence of the AHL.
Analysis: Karsums is having a solid third AHL season with 39 points (16G, 23A) in 38 games so far. A second-round pick in 2004, he's worth keeping an eye on in keeper formats while up with the Bruins. Bitz, meanwhile, is more of a checking forward as he has 10 points and 68 PIM in the AHL tihs season. He should be ignored for now. Both guys have yet to play in an NHL game.

Karsums has short stay with Bruins

News: Bruins RW Martins Karsums was called up Saturday from Providence of the AHL for a game against the Thrashers and was immediately returned to the minors after the game. He didn't have a point in eight minutes.
Analysis: Karsums is a second-round pick from 2004 that has played well the last few seasons with Providence. However, Boston just doesn't have space for him right now, so he is nothing more than a possible long-term Fantasy keeper.

Karsums back in the majors

News: The Bruins recalled F Martins Karsums from Providence of the AHL on an emergency basis and placed F Marco Sturm (Head/Neck) on long term injured reserve, retroactive to Nov. 17.
Analysis: Karsums is back in the NHL, which does little to nothing for his Fantasy value. Leave him on waivers until he can prove himself.

News: The Boston Bruins returned Martins Karsums to Providence of the AHL on Wednesday.
Analysis: Karsums might be back at the NHL level at some point, but for now, don't bother with him in Fantasy Hockey.

News: The Boston Bruins assigned D Bobby Allen, G Brian Finley, F Martins Karsums, F David Krejci, D Matt Lashoff, D Jay Leach, F Pascal Pelletier, F Tyler Redenbach, D Jonathan Sigalet, F Nate Thompson, F Kris Versteeg and F Ben Walter to Providence of the AHL on Monday.
Analysis: Neither of the players mentioned have any value in Fantasy Hockey.
