Kings Reassign Van Der Gulik

News: David Van der Gulik was reassigned to AHL Manchester on Friday, Lisa Dillman of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Analysis: David Van der Gulik's demotion likely signals that Trevor Lewis (upper body) will be activated in advance of Friday's game against the Red Wings. The 31-year-old Van der Gulik was recalled by the Kings on an emergency basis for Thursday's game against the Penguins, during which he saw just over five minutes of ice time.

Kings Recall Van der Gulik On Emergency Basis

News: The Kings recalled David Van der Gulik from AHL Manchester on an emergency basis Thursday, LA Kings Insider reports.
Analysis: The Kings played a man down in Tuesday's game, so they were allowed to bring up David Van der Gulik without having to send him through waivers when they remove him from the roster. Van der Gulik has two goals and 11 assists in 48 career NHL games.

Kings Waive Van der Gulik

News: David Van der Gulik was waived by the Kings on Monday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Analysis: David Van der Gulik had little to no shot at opening the season with the reigning Stanley Cup champs. He's expected to clear waivers and report to AHL Manchester, where he'll bide his time until injuries afford him the opportunity to join the big club.

Kings Sign Van Der Gulik

News: David Van der Gulik signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Kings on Tuesday.
Analysis: David Van der Gulik spent most of last season with AHL Lake Erie, where he recorded 13 goals and nine assists in 33 games. He'll likely just be a depth player for the Kings.

Avs Return Van Der Gulik To Minors

News: David Van der Gulik (undisclosed) was activated from injured reserve Sunday and reassigned to AHL Lake Erie.
Analysis: When the Avalanche were short on forward depth in early January, David Van der Gulik was called up from the minors and played in just two games before he was sidelined due to injury. Now healthy, Van der Gulik will log some regular ice time in the minors with an eye on rejoining the Avalanche perhaps later on in the season.

Avs' Place Van Der Gulik On IR

News: David Van der Gulik (undisclosed) was placed on injured reserve.
Analysis: Although David Van der Gulik was absent from Saturday's lineup against the Wild, it was believed he was just a healthy scratch, not that he was nursing any sort of injury. The Avalanche still haven't provided much clarity regarding why he was placed on injured reserve, but he'll have a retroactive date of Jan. 10 nonetheless.

Avs Recall Van der Gulik

News: David Van der Gulik was recalled from AHL Lake Erie on Tuesday, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: He'll merely act as insurance at forward for the Avalanche after Ryan O'Reilly hurt his left shoulder in Monday's loss to the Flames and is considered questionable for Wednesday's game. David Van der Gulik had tallied six goals in 14 games with Lake Erie.

Avs Return Van der Gulik To AHL

News: David Van der Gulik has been sent down to Lake Erie (AHL).
Analysis: With a pair of assists in the last five games, David Van der Gulik will see more minutes in the AHL after skating 8-11 minutes per game over that span with the Avs.

Van der Gulik Recalled By Avs

News: David Van der Gulik has been recalled by the Avs.
Analysis: The 29-year-old David Van der Gulik, who has 11 points in 39 career NHL games to date, gives the Avs some added depth up front, with both Paul Stastny and Milan Hejduk currently sidelined.

Avs' Van der Gulik Recalled Friday

News: David Van der Gulik was recalled Friday from AHL Lake Erie, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: David Van der Gulik will be part of the Avs' fourth line in Saturday's game with other players shifting around to replace the injured David Jones (knee).

Avs' Van der Gulik Back In Minors

News: David Van der Gulik has two points (1G, 1A) in four games for the AHL Lake Erie Monsters since being placed on waivers prior to the trade deadline.
Analysis: David Van der Gulik notched six points in 25 games during his stay with the Avs this season, and could still be used in a callup role should the team run into injury trouble down the stretch. His fantasy value is marginal at this point.

Avs Place Van der Gulik on Waivers.

News: David Van der Gulik has been placed on waivers, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: With Erik Johnson currently day-to-day, the Avs needed an extra defenseman. David Van der Gulik, a healthy scratch the past two games, was the casualty necessary to bring up an extra defenseman in Tyson Barrie.

Avs' Van der Gulik Riding Pine

News: David Van der Gulik has been a healthy scratch the last two games, after skating a season-low 5:17 against Edmonton on Friday.
Analysis: Prior to the benching, David Van der Gulik was already a low man on coach Joe Sacco's totem pole. However, with the arrival of Steve Downie from Tampa Bay along with last week's callup of Mark Olver, he has effectively been pushed right off the Avs' depth chart. You should not be relying on him for fantasy purposes at this time.

Avs' Van der Gulik Seeing Little Action

News: David Van der Gulik skated a season low 5:17 against Edmonton on Friday.
Analysis: David Van der Gulik has six points (1G, 5A) in 25 games for the Avs thus far, skating on the team's fourth line with Cody McLeod and Chuck Kobasew. He has fantasy value in the deepest of fantasy formats only.

Avs' Van der Gulik: Still Developing

News: David Van der Gulik enters the All-Star break with just five points (1G, 4A) in 17 games.
Analysis: David Van der Gulik was fifth in team scoring at AHL Lake Erie last season (36 points in 48 games). However, that success has not yet translated to the NHL level, where he typically sees fewer than 10 minutes of ice time per night playing on the Avs' fourth line. His fantasy value may take a few seasons to materialize.

Avs' Van der Gulik (Personal) Returns To Lineup Wednesday

News: David Van der Gulik will play Wednesday night against the Blues, according to The Denver Post. He missed Monday's game against Philly to be with his wife for the birth of their son.
Analysis: Given David Van der Gulik's limited role in the Avs' lineup, it's difficult to recommend him outside of very deep formats. However, with six points (1G, 5A) in just 11 career games, he does have some potential.

Avs' Van der Gulik Expecting First Child, Won't Play Monday

News: David Van der Gulik will miss Monday's game against the Flyers in order to be with his wife who is expecting, according to The Denver Post.
Analysis: David Van der Gulik registered an assist in his season debut against the Sharks last week. Kevin Porter will take his spot in the lineup Monday against Philly.

Avs' Van der Gulik Notches Assist In Season Debut

News: David Van der Gulik skated 10:46 and picked up an assist in his season debut Thursday against the Sharks.
Analysis: A fairly productive scorer for Colorado's AHL team, Lake Erie, David Van der Gulik has contributed nicely in his seven games of opportunity with the Avs between this season and last, totaling four points.

Avs Recall Van der Gulik

News: The Avs have recalled David Van der Gulik, the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: David Van der Gulik, who currently leads the Lake Erie Monsters in scoring this season with six goals and 19 points in 21 games, will take the spot of Brandon Yip who is out with a groin injury. Van der Gulik will likely line up as a checking-line forward for the Avs, so his fantasy appeal remains limited for the time being.

Avs' Van der Gulik Shines

News: David Van der Gulik currently leads the AHL Lake Erie Monsters in scoring with 17 points (6G, 11A) in 18 games. He has also recorded at least one point in eight of his last nine games.
Analysis: Given the Avs' struggles this year, one could argue that the team could use a guy like David Van der Gulik to bolster their forward ranks. However, despite registering a goal and two helpers in six games with the Avs last season, he played mostly in a checking role capacity so it's difficult to see where he would fit into the Avs' lineup today. Still, if the team gets desperate enough, you never know. If you are in an ultra-deep league and somehow have Van der Gulik on your roster, the situation is worth monitoring closely.

Avs Recall Van der Gulik

News: Van der Gulik was recalled from AHL Lake Erie on Saturday and immediately stepped into the lineup that night against Nashville. He recorded an assist in 10:38 of ice time, along with three shots and three hits.
Analysis: Van der Gulik has 21 points (11G, 10A) in 36 games for the Monsters this season. However, his role with the Avs will be primarily that of a checking line forward, and he won't be expected to contribute much offensively.

Avs Reassign Van der Gulik

News: Van der Gulik has been reassigned to AHL Lake Erie, the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Van der Gulik was recently cleared to play following a knee injury back in November, but the guy who was called up to fill in - Greg Mauldin - has played too well to be sent back down. The Avs couldn't justify sitting Van der Gulik on the bench so they decided to get him some playing time in the minors. He has a goal and an assist in five games with the Avs this season but played a limited role as a fourth-line player. He doesn't posses much fantasy value at this time.

Avs' Van der Gulik (Knee) Close to Return

News: Van der Gulik (knee) has been cleared to play, the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Van der Gulik has been quietly rehabbing his knee since sustaining torn ligaments about a month ago in a game against Calgary. He will reportedly take the pre-game warmup Monday against Chicago, but is not expected to play. He doesn't have much fantasy value in most formats, but if you do rely on him, he's close to a return. Keep tabs on his progress.

Avs' Van der Gulik Tears ACL on Tuesday

News: Van der Gulik tore his ACL in the second period of Tuesday's loss to Calgary.
Analysis: The depth forward is expected to miss the remainder of the season as a result. Thanks to the injury, he has no fantasy value at this time.
