Pens' Greiss Allows Four In Loss

News: Thomas Greiss allowed four goals on 20 shots in Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Flyers.
Analysis: Making the start on the second end of a back-to-back set, Thomas Greiss didn't have a strong outing despite facing a relatively light workload. It's the 29-year-old's third loss in his last four starts, and with the Penguins fighting to stay in the playoffs with just three games remaining, Marc-Andre Fleury figures to receive the starting nod the rest of the way.

Pens' Greiss Starting Sunday

News: Thomas Greiss will start Sunday's game against the Flyers, Dave Isaac of the Courier-Post reports.
Analysis: Thomas Greiss has only started one game since March 17, but he's allowed two or fewer goals in each of his last five starts. Look for Marc-Andre Fleury to be back between the pipes for what should be a crucial game against the Senators on Tuesday.

Pens' Greiss Getting It Done

News: Thomas Greiss made 22 saves in a 3-2 win over the Coyotes on Saturday.
Analysis: He hasn't allowed more than two goals in any of his last six appearances. After going through a stretch when it seemed like Pittsburgh might look for a new backup, Thomas Greiss has played his best hockey in a Penguins sweater. He could start again next weekend when the Pens play back-to-back's in Columbus and Philly.

Pens' Greiss Receives Saturday Start

News: Thomas Greiss will be in goal for Saturday's game against the Coyotes, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: With the Penguins playing a back-to-back set of games this weekend, Marc-Andre Fleury will be saved for the tougher matchup Sunday versus the Sharks while Thomas Greiss gets the cushy draw against his former team. Though the Coyotes have accumulated eight goals over their last two games, they still rank 29th in the league with 2.04 goals per game and count the since-departed Keith Yandle as their scoring leader with 41 points. Greiss makes for both a great streaming option in season-long leagues and a strong, affordable play in daily formats.

Pens' Greiss Solid Again In Loss

News: Thomas Greiss turned away 17 of 18 shots, but was on the wrong end of a shutout in Tuesday's 2-0 loss to the Devils.
Analysis: Thomas Greiss has conceded one goal in both of his last two turns, only to watch the opposing netminder blank his mates on the other end. The tough losses were probably overdue for Greiss, who had ridden the Pens' normally productive attack to an 8-3-3 record through his first 15 outings, despite mediocre ratios. Look for regular starter Marc-Andre Fleury to get back in the net for the Penguins' next game, Thursday in Dallas.

Pens' Greiss Confirmed For Tuesday

News: Thomas Greiss is on the ice for pregame warmups and has been confirmed as the starter in goal for Tuesday's game against the Devils, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Thomas Greiss will making his third appearance in as many games, after he entered the crease in relief of Marc-Andre Fleury during Sunday's loss to the Red Wings. Don't take that as a sign that Greiss is in line for more work, however, as coach Mike Johnston likely just wanted to give Fleury some additional time to clear his head after two rough outings in a row. Greiss has been merely serviceable as a backup goalie this season, posting a 8-4-3 record, 2.63 GAA, and .911 save percentage over his 17 appearances. He'll be opposed by the Devils' Cory Schneider.

Pens' Greiss First Off Ice Tuesday

News: Thomas Greiss was first off the ice at morning skate ahead of Tuesday's game aginst the Devils, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: Thomas Greiss will get the nod for a second time in three games, after Marc-Andre Fleury started each of the previous three contests. The Penguins still want to finish ahead of the Islanders, but they may be a bit more mindful of keeping Fleury rested over the final few weeks of the season.

Greiss, Pens Shut Out By Surging Bruins

News: Thomas Greiss played well Saturday -- allowing just a single goal on 29 shots -- but it wasn't enough as the Penguins fell 2-0 to the Bruins. The second goal was an empty-netter.
Analysis: The Pens ran into the brick wall known as Tuukka Rask in this one, whose shutout prevented them from providing any offensive support for Thomas Greiss. He hasn't seen much time behind Marc-Andre Fleury this year, as he's only appeared in 16 games, posting a record of 8-4-3 with a .912 save percentage and 2.66 GAA.

Pens' Greiss In The Net Saturday

News: Thomas Greiss will receive the start in goal for Saturday's matinee against the Bruins, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: Coach Mike Johnston didn't reveal his goalie for Saturday until pregame warmups, but did confirm that both netminders would play over the weekend, meaning Marc-Andre Fleury can be penciled in for Sunday's tilt with the Red Wings. Neither matchup would have been ideal for Thomas Greiss, as both are likely playoff teams with respectable offenses that could cause trouble for the goalie. Greiss owns an 8-3-3 record over his 15 games this season, but a mediocre 2.76 GAA and .908 save percentage suggests he's been bailed out by his mates quite frequently. He shouldn't be viewed as an attractive streaming option for Saturday.

Pens' Greiss To Start Saturday

News: Thomas Greiss will start for the Penguins in goal Saturday against Boston.
Analysis: After going through a rough patch last month, Thomas Greiss has played better in recent starts. He makes for an okay start at home, but there could be better goalie matchups available with a heavy slate of games on tap Saturday.

Pens' Greiss Prevails Over Ducks

News: Thomas Greiss allowed two goals on 29 shots in a 5-2 win over the Ducks on Friday.
Analysis: Making his first appearance since Feb. 21 and just his 14th start of the season behind Marc-Andre Fleury, Thomas Greiss improved his record to 8-3-3 with a 2.76 GAA and .908 save percentage. The former Shark has been a perfectly serviceable backup to Fleury in his time with the Pens and should get a couple more starts in the final 18 games of the season.

Pens' Greiss Slated To Start Friday

News: Thomas Greiss has been confirmed as the starter in goal for Friday's game against the Ducks, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: The Penguins will kick off a back-to-back set with the little-used Thomas Greiss, leaving regular netminder Marc-Andre Fleury to man the net for Saturday's tilt with the Kings. Despite pedestrian ratios (2.82 GAA, .906 save percentage), Greiss has been the beneficiary of some strong offensive support in his starts, staking him to a 7-3-3 record on the campaign. For that reason, he normally makes for a decent streaming option on most occasions he's slated to enter the crease, but it's probably best to avoid using him against Anaheim, which leads the NHL with 91 points.

Pens' Greiss Expected To Start Friday

News: Thomas Greiss was first off the ice at morning skate, indicating that he will likely start Friday's game in Anaheim, Sam Werner of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: With Thomas Greiss on track for Friday night, Marc-Andre Fleury figures to handle Saturday's game against the Kings. Greiss hasn't started a game since Feb. 21, and he has only made 13 starts this season.

#Pens Greiss Gets Big Win Saturday

News: Thomas Greiss made 21 saves in a 4-2 win over St. Louis on Saturday.
Analysis: The backup has struggled after a strong start and likely needed a good showing to keep his job. Prior to Saturday, Thomas Greiss had allowed three or more goals in eight of his last nine starts. He came up particularly big Saturday, stopping a Vladimir Tarasenko slapper with the Pens nursing an early 1-0 lead.

Penguins Go With Greiss Saturday

News: Thomas Greiss will get the start in net Saturday against the Blues, NHL.com's Lou Korac reports.
Analysis: Thomas Greiss faces an unfavorable matchup on Saturday, as the Blues average 3.05 goals scored per game, good for fifth best in the NHL. Greiss has gone 6-3-3 with a 2.88 GAA and a .906 save percentage through 13 games with the Penguins this season.

Pens' Greiss Allows Four, But Wins In Shootout

News: Thomas Greiss gave up four goals on 33 shots Thursday in Ottawa, but came away with a shootout win.
Analysis: Not the shiniest effort for Thomas Greiss, and his last two starts haven't been very good either. He's not making the concept of resting Marc-Andre Fleury a very attractive one for the Penguins.

Pens Confirm Greiss For Thursday Start

News: Thomas Greiss has been confirmed as the starter in goal for Thursday's game against the Senators.
Analysis: It will be Thomas Greiss' second career outing against the Senators. The goalie is coming off his worst outing of the season over the weekend against the Canucks, as he let in five goals on 27 shot attempts in defeat. That performance, along with his poor ratios on the season (2.80 GAA, .909 save percentage) make him an unattractive streaming option for Thursday's slate.

Pens' Greiss Expected To Play Thursday

News: Thomas Greiss is expected to receive the start in goal Thursday against the Senators, Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun reports.
Analysis: Coach Mike Johnston hasn't confirmed Thomas Greiss as Thursday's starter, but it's widely assumed he'll get the call after Marc-Andre Fleury manned the net during Wednesday's win over the Red Wings. Greiss has been limited to just 12 appearances this season, posting a 5-3-3 record and 2.80 GAA.

Pens' Greiss Struggles In Loss

News: Thomas Greiss gave up five goals on 27 shots in Saturday's loss to Vancouver.
Analysis: It was the first time all season Thomas Greiss has given up five goals, as he got lit up by a Canucks team coming off a 5-1 loss to San Jose. The 29-year-old owns a 5-3-3 record on the season with a .909 save percentage and 2.80 GAA. While Greiss has shown to be decent backup this season, his lackluster showing Saturday is just another reason the Penguins could rely even more on workhorse starter Marc-Andre Fleury in the future.

Pens' Greiss To Get Saturday Start

News: Thomas Greiss will pick up a start in goal Saturday against the Canucks.
Analysis: With coach Mike Johnston opting to use Fleury for the front end of the team's back-to-back Friday in Calgary, Thomas Greiss will man the net for the next came of the Penguins tour through Western Canada. It will mark Greiss' first action since the All-Star break, but he wasn't exactly used much prior to that layoff, either. He's made just 11 appearances behind Fleury this season, going 5-2-3 with a 2.60 GAA and .916 save percentage.

Greiss, Injury-Ravaged Pens Triumph Over Jets

News: Thomas Greiss stopped 19 of 22 as the Penguins overcame the absences of Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin to come away with a 5-3 win over the Jets on Tuesday.
Analysis: One heck of a way for the Pens to come out of the break, but not an impressive outing for Thomas Greiss, who let the Jets take a 3-2 lead before his offense came roaring back. He'll return to the bench Wednesday, as Marc-Andre Fleury will slot back into his typical spot in goal.

News: Thomas Greiss is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Jets, Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.

Penguins Could Turn To Greiss Tuesday

News: Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette suggests that Thomas Greiss is likely to start Tuesday's game against the Jets.

Pens' Greiss Plays Well In Tuesday Loss

News: Thomas Greiss stopped 37 of 40 shots in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Flyers on Tuesday.
Analysis: The backup goalie played well and was a big factor in helping his team to a regulation tie. Thomas Greiss was making just his third start since Dec. 13, but his effort in Philadelphia might give coach Mike Johnston more confidence to deploy him more frequently.

Penguins Turn To Greiss On Tuesday

News: Thomas Greiss is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Flyers, Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.
Analysis: With Thomas Greiss slated to start Tuesday game, look for Marc-Andre Fleury to draw the team's starting nod in net on Wednesday against Chicago.
