Penguins Sign Greiss

News: The Penguins signed Thomas Greiss to a one-year, $1 million deal Tuesday.
Analysis: Thomas Greiss went 10-8-5 with a 2.29 GAA and a save percentage of .920 with the Coyotes last season. He'll back up Marc-Andre Fleury in Pittsburgh next season.

Greiss Getting Lots Of Free Agent Interest

News: Eight teams have reached out to Thomas Greiss' agent, reports Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic. He becomes a free agent on July 1.
Analysis: It's hard to think those interested teams are looking for a starter. Thomas Greiss is a very good backup and it looks like he's as good as gone from the Phoenix ... err ... Arizona Coyotes.

Coyotes' Greiss Stops 16 In Win

News: Thomas Greiss made 16 saves on 17 shots in a win over the Stars on Sunday.
Analysis: When Mike Smith went down with an injury, things fell apart in net for the Coyotes, even though Thomas Greiss' overall numbers were good. However, Smith will be back starting next season.

Greiss Starts For Coyotes

News: Thomas Greiss will start Sunday's game against the Stars.
Analysis: Thomas Greiss will square off against Tim Thomas and the playoff-bound Stars in Sunday's season finale for the Coyotes, who are out of the postseason mix.

Coyotes' Greiss Solid In Loss

News: Thomas Greiss allowed just two goals on 23 shots Thursday against the Preds, but the Coyotes scored none to support him.
Analysis: Despite the solid outing, that's now six consecutive losses -- evenly split between regulation and overtime -- for Thomas Greiss, whose last win came two weeks ago on March 27. The Coyotes are in desperation mode now, and would surely love to get Mike Smith back in goal, which could in theory happen as soon as their next game, Saturday against the Sharks.

Coyotes Roll Will Greiss

News: Thomas Greiss is expected to start Thursday's game against the Predators, the Coyotes' official site reports.
Analysis: With Mike Smith still out, according to Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic, Thomas Greiss will continue to man the Phoenix net as the team continues to chase a playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Coyotes' Greiss Loses Fifth Straight

News: Thomas Greiss surrendered four goals on 30 shots during Tuesday's overtime loss in Columbus.
Analysis: This is the fifth consecutive loss for Thomas Greiss, though at least he and the Coyotes have taken three of those games to overtime. Mike Smith is back to practicing fully, and with Phoenix two points out of the West's final playoff spot, they have to be planning to roll Smith out there as soon as he's ready.

Coyotes Stick With Greiss On Tuesday

News: Thomas Greiss is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Blue Jackets, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Though Thomas Greiss has lost four straight decisions, he'll continue to man the Coyotes' net Tuesday, with Mike Smith still day-to-day.

Coyotes' Greiss Loses Fourth Straight Friday

News: Thomas Greiss stopped 24 of 26 shots but allowed the only goal of the overtime shootout and lost to the Oilers 3-2 on Friday.
Analysis: While Thomas Greiss has now lost four-straight games, he's only allowed nine goals over that span. He'll continue to get the nod until top goaltender Mike Smith is healthy enough to play.

Coyotes' Greiss Drops Third Straight

News: Thomas Greiss took a third straight loss Wednesday, allowing four goals on 32 shots against the Kings.
Analysis: Thomas Greiss had been generally good even in defeat in his previous four starts in place of the injured Mike Smith, but Wednesday's performance wasn't one of his better efforts. It certainly didn't help matters that his teammates weren't able to muster many shots, attempting just 17 to the Kings' 32.

Coyotes Going With Greiss On Wednesday

News: Thomas Greiss will start Wednesday against the Kings.
Analysis: Thomas Greiss will be making his fifth straight start and his second in as many nights, as the Coyotes look to secure a critical win over the Kings. The German netminder took a tough shootout loss Tuesday against the Jets, but has otherwise been highly dependable since stepping in for the injured Mike Smith (lower-body). He's posted a save percentage above .920 in each of his last four starts.

Coyotes' Greiss Allows Just One In Loss

News: Thomas Greiss stopped 21-of-22 shots Tuesday against Winnipeg, but was saddled with a shootout loss.
Analysis: Despite the unfavorable outcome, that's now four straight starts since Mike Smith was injured in which Thomas Greiss has delivered admirable performances. He's allowed just seven goals in that span.

Coyotes Stick With Greiss On Tuesday

News: Thomas Greiss is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Jets, the Coyotes' official site reports.
Analysis: With Mike Smith still unavailable, Thomas Greiss is in line to make his career-high fourth consecutive start Tuesday night against the Jets.

Coyotes' Greiss Suffers Home Loss Saturday

News: Thomas Greiss made 27-of-29 saves Saturday against Minnesota, but suffered the loss as the Wild scored three unanswered third-period goals to down Phoenix 3-1. The final tally was an empty netter.
Analysis: The German netminder has been solid in three full games of relief for Mike Smith, allowing no more than two goals in each outing. Despite the loss, Thomas Greiss has now reached his career high in games played with 19 and is enjoying his most productive NHL season with a 9-6-2 record, .924 save percentage and 2.30 GAA. With no timetable available thus far for Smith to return from a lower-body injury, those in need of goalie help should hone in on Greiss as he'll see the majority of the remaining crease time for the Desert Dogs as they fight for their playoff lives.

Coyotes Give Greiss Another Start

News: Thomas Greiss will make his third start in a row Saturday against the Wild, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: With Mike Smith still ailing, coach Dave Tippett will turn the net over to Thomas Greiss, who has delivered wins in his first two outings as the fill-in goalie. Greiss has delivered serviceable numbers throughout the season with a 2.31 GAA and .924 save percentage over 18 appearances and should prove useful across most fantasy formats for as long as Smith is out.

Greiss Delivers Another Win For Coyotes

News: Thomas Greiss saved 26 of 28 and all three shootout tries during Thursday's victory in New Jersey.
Analysis: After blowing the lead and taking the loss in the game in which Mike Smith was hurt, Thomas Greiss has now made two high-quality starts -- victories both. Smith's scheduled to be seen by doctors on Friday, at which point we should gain a better idea of who'll start Saturday against Minnesota.

Coyotes' Greiss To Make Second Straight Start

News: Thomas Greiss will make his second straight start Thursday against the Devils, Craig Morgan of FOX Sports Arizona reports.
Analysis: Mike Smith will be kept out of the lineup until he's reevaluated back in Phoenix on Friday, leaving Thomas Greiss to man the net once again. Greiss was magnificent in his start Tuesday against the Penguins, stopping 23 of 25 shots to pick up the win. He looks like a worthwhile streaming option against a Devils team that has lost four of their last six games.

Coyotes' Greiss Delivers Win Over Pens

News: Thomas Greiss turned away 23 of 25 shots in Tuesday's 3-2 win over Pittsburgh.
Analysis: He was fortunate to face the Pens without Evgeni Malkin, but Sidney Crosby was still in action. Thomas Greiss has put up far better rate stats than the injured Mike Smith this year, albeit in a small sample size, and should be rolled out in most fantasy formats while Smith (leg) remains injured.

Coyotes' Greiss Will Start Tuesday

News: Coach Dave Tippett said Thomas Greiss will start in net for the Coyotes on Tuesday.
Analysis: Coach Tippett said the start was scheduled for Thomas Greiss anyway in the second of a back-to-back set, but the injury to Mike Smith made it a certainty. Greiss entered for Smith in the third period and proceeded to give up two goals on nine shots on Monday, taking an overtime loss. Greiss will likely get a majority of the starts while Smith is out; the question right now is how long that'll be.

Coyotes' Greiss Takes Relief Loss

News: Thomas Greiss entered Monday's game against the Rangers more than halfway through the third period following an injury to Mike Smith and proceeded to allow two goals on nine shots in an overtime loss.
Analysis: Thomas Greiss entered with a 3-2 lead, but was unable to hold it against a Rangers team that seemed determined not to lose at home. Nonetheless, he seems in line to get some starts in the near future, depending on the extent of the lower-body injury suffered by Smith.

Greiss, Phoenix Fall Friday

News: Thomas Greiss allowed four goals on 33 shots in Friday's 4-2 loss to Colorado.
Analysis: Phoenix began the Olympic break with a stretch of three games in four nights, so it's logical that Thomas Greiss would start one of those games. Look for Mike Smith to see the buik of starts down the stretch as Phoenix battles for a playoff spot.

Coyotes' Greiss In Goal Friday

News: Thomas Greiss will start in net for Friday's game against the Avalanche, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Thomas Greiss will give iron man goalie Mike Smith a rest in Friday's game with the team having some long road trips. His starts have come sporadically, but he has a 7-4-1 record with a 2.09 GAA in 14 games.

Coyotes' Greiss Takes Loss Thursday

News: Thomas Greiss stopped 25 of 28 shots he faced Thursday in a 3-2 loss to Buffalo.
Analysis: Coming off of posting a shutout Tuesday, Thomas Greiss was less impressive in this one. He should return to the bench in favor of Mike Smith for the Coyotes' next game.

Coyotes To Stick With Greiss On Thursday

News: Thomas Greiss will be back in the net Thursday vs. the Sabres, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: After Thomas Greiss was spectacular in shutting out the Kings on Tuesday night, coach Dave Tippett will roll with the backup once again as the Coyotes look to climb back into the Western Conference playoff picture. Mike Smith still has a seemingly firm grip on the No. 1 job, but fantasy players in need of a short-term goalie option may want to take a look at Greiss. The league-worst Sabres would appear to make Greiss an excellent spot-start option.

Coyotes' Greiss Shuts Out Kings

News: Thomas Greiss was on top of his game Tuesday, stopping all 30 shots he faced in a 3-0 win over the Kings -- his second shutout in three starts.
Analysis: Thomas Greiss was making his first start in 17 days after being yanked his last time out, but he'd shut out Calgary in the game before that. That disaster start aside, Greiss has done outstanding work as Mike Smith's backup this year and deserves more playing time, especially considering how mediocre Smith has been.
