Canucks Assign Joslin To AHL

News: The Canucks assigned Derek Joslin to Chicago of the AHL on Friday, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Derek Joslin was signed to a two-way deal before the lockout, so his demotion doesn't come as much of a surprise. Peter Andersson, Darren Archibald, Joe Cannata, Kevin Connauton, Andrew Gordon, Anton Rondin and Bill Sweatt were other roster cuts for the Canucks on Friday.

Canucks Sign Joslin To One-Year, Two-Way Deal

News: Derek Joslin agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with the Canucks on Thursday, 1130 Sports News reports.
Analysis: Derek Joslin appeared in 44 games for the Hurricanes last season, scoring four points. He's likely to be ticketed for the AHL, but could find playing time if injuries strike the Canucks' defensive unit.

Hurricanes Place Joslin On Unconditional Waivers

News: The Hurricanes designated Derek Joslin to unconditional waivers Friday with the intent of buying out his contract, the Raleigh News and Observer reports.
Analysis: Though the 'Canes will still have to pay Derek Joslin what is contractually his, it is safe to say the Ontario native and the Carolina organization will soon part ways.

Canes' Joslin Removed From Lineup

News: Derek Joslin will be replaced in the Hurricanes lineup by Jaroslav Spacek, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News and Observer reports.
Analysis: Derek Joslin filled in admirably, but the Hurricanes need more offensively from the blue line. Joslin, in 21 games, has only tallied two points, and with a now healthy Jarolslav Spacek available for action, head coach Kirk Muller decided to sacrifice defense for offense.

Joslin Recalled By Carolina

News: The Hurricanes have recalled Derek Joslin from AHL Charlotte, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Derek Joslin, who has two points in 14 games with the big club thus far, adds some depth to the Carolina blue line, but there's not much upside on offense here.

Canes Assign Joslin to AHL Charlotte

News: Derek Joslin has been designated to AHL Charlotte, the team's official site reports.
Analysis: Derek Joslin was not a fantasy difference-maker, but this move is said to be for conditioning purposes.

News: Derek Joslin will be a scratch Friday, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: All signs are Derek Joslin is healthy, but he will not play against Ottawa.

Canes' Joslin To Start

News: Derek Joslin will replace Jay Harrison in Friday's lineup, the Raleigh News and Observer reports.
Analysis: Derek Joslin has been a healthy scratch in the previous four games so do not expect too much from the defenseman in this spot start.

Canes' Joslin Makes Season Debut Sunday

News: Derek Joslin played in his first game of the season Sunday against Dallas, the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Derek Joslin was a healthy scratch for the Canes' first 13 games but got his chance Sunday with Jamie McBain sitting. Tuomo Ruutu's power play goal in the third period was assisted by Joslin, who also received 10 penalty minutes for misconduct. Joslin doesn't have fantasy value until he earns himself more playing time.

Canes' Joslin Paired With Justin Faulk

News: Derek Joslin will be paired up with Justin Faulk on the blue line for Wednesday's game against Boston, according to Chip Alexander.
Analysis: Derek Joslin doesn't have much fantasy value on his own, only tallying 12 points in 70 NHL appearances, but he can provide some nice support for fellow defenseman Faulk, who has struggled thus far.

Canes' Joslin Ready For Exhibition Play

News: Following a bout with mononucleosis, Derek Joslin will make his preseason debut Sunday against the Jets, the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Derek Joslin has some catching up to do ahead of the new season, particularly if he plans on evolving into a full-time NHLer. Originally picked by the Sharks in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Joslin has dropped in just 12 points (2 G, 10 A) in 70 appearances.

Hurricanes' Joslin Returns to Practice

News: Derek Joslin returned to practice Friday after being limited by mononucleosis for a few days, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Derek Joslin's illness didn't help his chances of securing a roster spot, but hopefully he'll still have enough time to impress the coaching staff before final cuts are made.

Rutherford Agrees to Contract With Hurricanes

News: Joslin has agreed to a two-year deal worth $1.4 million with the Hurricanes, reports the teams' official site.
Analysis: Joslin split time between the AHL and NHL last season, scoring once and notching four assists with Carolina. General Manager Jim Rutherford explained, "Derek is a young defenseman who played well after joining the Hurricanes last year. He has now put himself in a position to be a full-time NHL player."

Joslin Comes Through For Hurricanes

News: Joslin scored the first power-play goal of his career in Wednesday's 3-0 win over the Red Wings.
Analysis: And it came at an ideal time for the Hurricanes, who are still lobbying for some real estate in the postseason. Joslin still appears to be picking up the nuances of a tough defensive position, but has plenty of room to grow as he is just 24 years old.

Joslin Getting Heavy Minutes For Carolina

News: Having logged more than 20 minutes in the past two games, Joslin is starting to get more playing time on Carolina's blue line, Paul Branecky of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Analysis: Joslin has picked up more playing time with Jamie McBain sidelined by a shoulder injury. The Sharks traded Joslin to the Hurricanes on Feb. 18, and even though he's been a healthy scratch at times, the blueliner is getting noticed for his talents. "He blocks shots, he's a big body at five-on-five and he gets the puck through pretty good on the power play," said coach Paul Maurice. "We're pretty happy with him, and he'll only get better."

Canes' Joslin Could Return To The Lineup Soon

News: Joslin, a healthy scratch the past three contests, could draw back into the lineup soon, according to coach Paul Maurice, the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Analysis: "We've talked about it, because I have no problem playing this young man. He's played well for us," said Maurice. "We've talked about dressing seven D, and that's something we may look at as well." Even though he might stop watching from the press box in the near future, Joslin is not someone to consider for fantasy purposes until he can start seeing game ice with regularity.

Canes' Joslin To Continue Warming The Bench

News: Joslin will once again be a healthy scratch, this time missing Thursday's game against the Sabres, the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Joslin has already seen two games from the press box since the 'Canes pulled him away from the Sharks on February 18. It's unlikely that fantasy owners will be rushing to pick him up as long as he is a part-time player.

Canes' Joslin To See Pine Tuesday

News: Joslin will be scratched from the lineup Tuesday night against the Panthers, the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: The 'Canes picked up defenseman Bryan Allen from the Panthers at the trade deadline Monday, leaving Joslin as the odd man out, at least for Tuesday night.

Canes' Joslin Produces Two Assists Friday

News: Joslin went plus-3 and notched two assists in Friday's 4-1 win over the Penguins, counting as his first points as a member of the Hurricanes.
Analysis: Joslin, who was traded from the Sharks on Feb. 18, should be viewed as a depth option for the Hurricanes. Until his role expands to the point where he is producing regularly, it's entirely safe to leave him on free agency in most fantasy leagues.

Canes' Joslin: Newcomer To Sit Out Tuesday

News: Joslin will be scratched from the lineup Tuesday, when the Hurricanes host the Rangers, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: There is no word yet as to why Joslin will be held out. He made his debut with the Hurricanes as recently as Saturday, following a trade with San Jose. The Sharks only used Joslin as a part-time player over the span of three seasons, so it will be interesting to see how much playing time he gets with the 'Canes to finish the remainder of the season.

Joslin Makes Hurricanes Debut

News: Joslin, who was traded from the Sharks on Friday, made his Hurricanes debut against the Devils on Saturday.
Analysis: Joslin recorded just over 11 minutes in the contest. The defenseman delivered two hits and had one takeaway, but failed to put any shots on goal. The Hurricanes improved their depth with the addition of Joslin yet his fantasy upside is marginal given his lack of experience at the NHL level.

Canes Acquire Joslin From Sharks

News: Carolina acquired Joslin from the Sharks on Friday for future considerations, the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Analysis: Joslin has played sparingly for San Jose this season, notching one goal and three assists. "Derek is a young defenseman who will add depth to our organization," president and general manager Jim Rutherford said in a statement. "He shows a good skill level and plays a solid two-way game."

Sharks' Joslin Gets First Career Goal

News: Joslin netted his first career goal in Monday's 3-2 loss to the Stars.
Analysis: Joslin is starting to generate points for the Sharks on the back end. Already, he's established a career high with four points, but that has a lot to do with the fact that he had formerly been just a part-time player. Not yet fantasy relevant, view Joslin as a promising student of the game with some offensive upside.

Sharks' Joslin Makes Season Debut Monday

News: Joslin made his season debut in a return from a thumb injury Monday. The young defenseman made an immediate impact with two penalty minutes and a helper to Scott Nichol in the second period.
Analysis: Joslin was able to skate for 11:42 in the 6-3 win. This was a nice start for the blueliner, who has a lot of catching up to do before he'll get enough attention in fantasy circles.
