Sabres' Neuvirth Sidelined

News: Michal Neuvirth is dealing with a lower-body injury, the Sabres' official site reports.
Analysis: Michal Neuvirth suffered his injury "while working out during the All-Star break and will miss some time," GM Tim Murray relayed Monday. "He will not join the team for our trip out west this week," Murray added. With Neuvirth ailing, the Sabres have recalled fellow goalie Matt Hackett.

Sabres' Neuvirth Takes Another Loss

News: Michal Neuvirth stopped 28 of 32 shots Saturday against the Flyers, as the Sabres took their 10th consecutive regulation loss.
Analysis: Michal Neuvirth hasn't won a game since Nov. 15, taking a loss in each of his last eight turns. He's posted some useful save totals in a couple of those outings, but beyond that, the lack of victories and horrid ratios he provides make him toxic for fantasy purposes.

Sabres' Neuvirth Confirmed To Start

News: Michal Neuvirth will be in the crease Saturday against the Flyers, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.
Analysis: Unsurprisingly, coach Ted Nolan will hand the net over to Michal Neuvirth after Jhonas Enroth was whipped for seven goals on 37 shots in Thursday's embarrassing loss to the Wild. Neuvirth has begun to whittle into Enroth's workload of that to turn the Sabres' netminding situation into a true timeshare, but that won't give him much fantasy value. With a 3-12-1 record, 3.34 GAA and .909 save percentage over his 17 appearances this season, Neuvirth has done more harm than good for fantasy owners who have had to resort to using him.

Neuvirth, Sabres Sent To Another Loss

News: Michal Neuvirth gave up three goals on 30 shots in Tuesday's loss to the Red Wings.
Analysis: Opposing Czech netminder Petr Mrazek did more credit to the legacy of Dominik Hasek, whose number was retired by the Sabres on Tuesday, than Michal Neuvirth did. It's his seventh loss in a row, a span in which he's been tagged for 25 goals.

Sabres' Neuvirth To Start Tuesday

News: Michal Neuvirth will get the start in net against the Red Wings on Tuesday.
Analysis: Fantasy owners will want to avoid Michal Neuvirth if at all possible. While he hasn't played terribly, posting a 3.36 GAA and a .909 save percentage, he almost never wins. Neuvirth's registered an abysmal 3-11-1 record through 16 games with the lowly Sabres this season. However, as a fellow Czech goalie, Neuvirth grew up idolizing Dominik Hasek, who will have his No. 39 jersey retired Tuesday, so he may be extra motivated to put in a solid performance. At the other end of the rink, rookie Czech goalie Petr Mrazek will try to do the same, so the game could turn out to be a battle of goaltending.

Sabres Likely To Stick With Neuvirth

News: Michal Neuvirth will likely start in goal for the Sabres on Tuesday against the Red Wings, Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Per the report, the Red Wings are likely to start Petr Mrazek on Tuesday against Michal Neuvirth, who made 45 saves on 47 shots in his last start, a 2-1 loss to Tampa Bay this past Friday.

Sabres' Neuvirth Phenomenal In Loss

News: Michal Neuvirth was outstanding in Friday's loss to Tampa Bay, making 45 saves on 47 shots.
Analysis: While Michal Neuvirth was dominant Friday, he picked up his sixth straight loss. The 26-year-old has managed just one win in his last 10 games, making him unappealing in almost all fantasy leagues. With a 3-11-1 record, to go with a .909 save percentage and 3.36 GAA, it's hard to see Neuvirth's numbers improving on a lowly Sabres team. Considering how poorly Jhonas Enroth has been playing, Neuvrith could see some more starts in the near-future. If you're looking for wins, however, you best be looking elsewhere.

Sabres' Neuvirth Tapped For Friday Start

News: Michal Neuvirth will be in the cage for Friday's game against the Lightning.
Analysis: The Sabres have lost six games in a row, and coach Ted Nolan is desperate to stumble into a hot goalie. Michal Neuvirth hasn't been playing well of late, but with nominal No. 1 goalie Jhonas Enroth also scuffling, he should continue to receive ample duty. It's advisable to stay away from Neuvirth until he notices a sustained run of success. Nolan said he'll be shuffling players around the lineup Friday, so that may work against the Sabres and their chemistry - or at least, what little of it they have at the moment.

Sabres' Neuvirth Chased In First Period

News: Michal Neuvirth was pulled Saturday at the 12:34 mark of the first after allowing four goals on nine shots. Those four goals came in a 3:50 span.
Analysis: The Rangers had their way with him -- the first three goals came on the power play in a 2:32 span. He's a sketchy roll at any given time. Avoid him if you can.

Sabres Hand Net Over To Neuvirth On Saturday

News: Michal Neuvirth will remain in the net for Saturday's game against the Rangers.
Analysis: In a surprising decision, coach Ted Nolan will turn to Michal Neuvirth -- who entered the week as the team's clear backup goalie -- for both ends of the Sabres' weekend back-to-back set. He likely earned the nod by delivering a quality outing in defeat Friday against the Panthers, stopping 31 of 33 shots. With Enroth scuffling in recent starts and the Sabres losing momentum from their hot first half of December, it seems Nolan is just grasping for straws at this point in the hope of reigniting his team. It's surely to the benefit of Neuvirth, but his 3.21 GAA and .911 save percentage over 14 appearances make it difficult for fantasy owners to rely on him, even if he begins to receive a steady stream of starts.

Sabres' Neuvirth Makes 31 Saves In Loss

News: Michal Neuvirth stopped 31 of 33 shots in Friday's loss to the Panthers.
Analysis: A great outing for the 26-year-old, who didn't get much offensive support from the Sabres in the loss. It was a good bounce-back game for Michal Neuvirth, as he had previously lost three straight games, surrendering a whopping 14 goals in that span. He is now 3-9-1 on the season with a .911 save percentage and 3.21 GAA. While he will continue to see action behind starter Jhonas Enroth, the fact the Sabres have just 14 wins this season makes Neuvirth an unappealing fantasy option.

Sabres' Neuvirth Draws Start Friday

News: Michal Neuvirth will be in the crease Friday against the Panthers, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.
Analysis: Michal Neuvirth hasn't provided much reason for optimism in over a month, as he lost all three of his December starts while surrendering a total of 14 goals. He'll be getting the call for the first end of the Sabres' weekend back-to-back set, but doesn't figure to pose much of a threat to Jhonas Enroth's standing atop the depth chart until he proves more reliable in spot-start scenarios such as Friday's.

Neuvirth, Sabres Implode Tuesday

News: Staked to a 3-1 lead in the middle of the second period Tuesday, Michal Neuvirth and the Sabres proceeded to give up five unanswered goals to take a 6-3 loss to the Red Wings. He ended up with 33 saves on 39 shots.
Analysis: That's a brutal outcome for the 26-year-old netminder, but if it's any consolation, four of those goals came on the power play, while Michal Neuvirth's mates managed to put only 16 shots on Petr Mrazek at the other end. Still, no matter how you sugarcoat it, that's three straight losses for Neuvirth, and he's given up a whopping 14 goals in that span.

Sabres' Neuvirth Confirmed For Tuesday

News: Michal Neuvirth (illness) has been confirmed as Tuesday's starter in goal against the Red Wings, Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: An illness prevented Michal Neuvirth from picking up one of the starts for the Sabres over back-to-back set this past weekend, but after he was back at full health Tuesday morning, coach Ted Nolan will turn the net over to the backup netminder. Neuvirth briefly enjoyed a run as the team's preferred option in goal as recently as mid-November, but Jhonas Enroth has since seemed to have captured that mantle from him. The 26-year-old owns just a 3-7-1 record and 3.06 GAA over 12 appearances on the season.

Sabres' Neuvirth Expected To Start Tuesday

News: Michal Neuvirth was the first goaltender off the ice at morning skate and is expected to get the start between the pipes against Detroit on Tuesday.
Analysis: Michal Neuvirth enters Tuesday's contest against Detroit with a 3.06 GAA and a .915 save percentage on the season. The netminder has been extremely hit or miss so far this year, giving up three or more goals in four of his eight starts on the season. The 26-year-old goaltender will remain a boom-or-bust play against Detroit on Tuesday.

Sabres' Neuvirth Recovering From Illness

News: Michal Neuvirth was passed over for the start in goal Sunday against the Bruins due to an illness.
Analysis: Coach Ted Nolan was prepared to start Michal Neuvirth on Sunday after going with Jhonas Enroth for the first game of their weekend back-to-back set on Saturday, but said Neuvirth was feeling a bit weakened earlier in the day. The Sabres haven't recalled an extra goalie from the minors at this time, so it's generally expected that Neuvirth will be healthy for Tuesday's game against the Red Wings.

Sabres' Neuvirth Beaten Five Times In Loss

News: Michal Neuvirth allowed five goals on 36 shots in Tuesday's blowout loss to Winnipeg.
Analysis: Michal Neuvirth didn't look like he was at his best while making his first start in 10 days and just his second start since Nov. 18. While he's turned in a lot of very solid starts this year, Neuvirth tends to get blown up for four-plus goals often enough that he's not a trustworthy roll even when he manages to swipe starts from Jhonas Enroth.

Sabres' Neuvirth Gets Rare Start Tuesday

News: Michal Neuvirth will be in goal for Tuesday's game against the Jets.
Analysis: Michal Neuvirth will start Tuesday for the first time since Dec. 6, and for just the second time since Nov. 18. He will square off against a Winnipeg team that lost 4-1 its last time out, but tallied at least three goals in four consecutive games prior to that.

Buffalo's Neuvirth: 34 Saves, But Yet Another Loss

News: Michal Neuvirth made 34 saves in Saturday's 3-2 loss to Florida.
Analysis: He has just a single win in the last month, but such is the course for a goalie stuck in Buffalo's net. His save percentage is actually solid, but he's not adding much to your fantasy squad otherwise.

Sabres' Neuvirth Draws Back In Saturday

News: Michal Neuvirth will earn the start in goal Saturday against the Panthers, Paul Hamilton of WGR Sports Radio 550 reports.
Analysis: Jhonas Enroth's run of seven straight starts came to an end with a thud Thursday night, as the Sabres took a 5-0 loss to the Lightning, resulting in coach Ted Nolan turning the crease over to Michal Neuvirth. The 26-year-old hasn't seen any action since leaving a Nov. 18 game with a lower-body injury, and doesn't make for a particularly inspiring option, even against a low-scoring Florida squad.

Sabres' Neuvirth Backing Up Friday

News: Michal Neuvirth (lower body) will back up Jhonas Enroth in Friday's game against the Canadiens, Paul Hamilton of WGR Sports Radio 550 reports.
Analysis: Michal Neuvirth has been practicing with the team since Monday and appears to be fully healthy at this point, but the Sabres seem inclined to ease him back into action. Expect Neuvirth to return to the net Saturday, when the Sabres travel to Montreal for the back end of a home-and-home set.

Sabres' Neuvirth Practicing Monday

News: Michal Neuvirth (lower body) practiced with the team Monday morning, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.
Analysis: Michal Neuvirth's injury was feared to be serious initially, so his presence at practice represents a good sign. It appears he could be returning in the near future, but there isn't a set date for when it will occur.

Sabres' Neuvirth Better Than Expected

News: Coach Ted Nolan indicated that the Sabres expected Michal Neuvirth to miss days rather than weeks due to the lower-body injury he suffered Tuesday night against the Sharks.
Analysis: Michal Neuvirth has been ruled out for both of the Sabres' games over the weekend, but it's possible Friday's home contest will be postponed in any case due to the ongoing snow emergency in the Buffalo area. At any rate, having Neuvirth miss only a few contests would amount to great news for the Sabres, as it was feared the goalie may have sustained a long-term injury when he suffered an apparent groin tweak in Tuesday's win. Jhonas Enroth will serve as the top netminder for the Sabres in the interim, but unless he plays exceedingly well, Neuvirth figures to remain option 1A for the team once he returns to full health.

Sabres, Neuvirth To Play During Snowstorm

News: Tuesday's game, in which Michal Neuvirth is scheduled to start against San Jose's Troy Grosenick, will be played as planned even though Buffalo is in the middle of a nasty snowstorm, The Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: The crowd might be down a bit given the weather, but based on the way the Sabres have been playing this season maybe that will give the good people of Buffalo a little less stress than they're already having this week. We will note the Sharks are one of the few teams Buffalo has had success against lately, beating them the last seven times. That said, San Jose is a heavy favorite against Buffalo, as is pretty much any other team as the Sabres work through a major rebuild. As for Tuesday's game, the two teams are pushing to get this game in, as the remaining schedules of the two franchises on opposite coasts aren't conducive for a makeup contest.

Sabres' Neuvirth Exits With Lower-Body Injury

News: Michal Neuvirth exited Tuesday's game against the Sharks following the first period with a lower-body injury, Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reports.
Analysis: Michal Neuvirth was hurt after Tyler Ennis crashed into his own goalie while trying to stop a 2-on-1 rush by the Sharks. The goal was disallowed, but the Sabres lost their starting goalie to the injury, which at first glance, looks like it could be a groin issue. It's also worth nothing that Neuvirth is coming off a hip injury that cost him significant action the previous season. Jhonas Enroth played the rest of the game and came away with the win. The Sabres figure to determine a timetable for Neuvirth in the coming days, but so long as he remains out, Enroth will take over starting duties, with either Nathan Lieuwen or Andrey Makarov acting as his backup.
