Islanders Have Yet To Talk To Neuvirth

News: The Islanders haven't contacted Michal Neuvirth's agent about re-signing him to a new contract, according to SNY.tv.
Analysis: Michal Neuvirth played much better with the Sabres as a starter than with the Islanders as a backup, so he may want to see if there is starting job out there for him first before committing to sign with any team as a No. 2 option. With few big-name goalies available in free agency, Neuvirth may draw interest from a number of teams.

Isles' Neuvirth Appears In Relief In Game 5

News: Michal Neuvirth saw his first action of the postseason in Thursday's Game 5 loss to the Capitals. He stopped all six shots he faced while relieving starter Jaroslav Halak for the second half of the third period.
Analysis: Despite Halak's poor outing, don't expect coach Jack Capuano to entertain any ideas of benching his No. 1 goalie with the Islanders facing elimination in Game 6. Michal Neuvirth did well to keep the Isles' deficit from growing worse Thursday, but his generally disappointing play since coming over from the Sabres at the trade deadline won't allow him to enter the starting goalie conversation.

Isles' Neuvirth Practices Monday

News: Michal Neuvirth (undisclosed) faced shots at Monday's practice, Doug Williams of SNY reports.
Analysis: The injury prevented Michal Neuvirth from being available in last Saturday's regular-season finale against the Blue Jackets, but it doesn't look as though the goalie is at risk of missing any postseason action. The Islanders reassigned Kevin Poulin to AHL Bridgeport after Saturday's game, indicating that Neuvirth is healthy enough to serve as the backup to Jaroslav Halak for the team's first-round playoff series against the Capitals.

Isles' Neuvirth Dealing With Undisclosed Injury

News: Michal Neuvirth is dealing with an undisclosed injury and doesn't appear likely to play Saturday against the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Michal Neuvirth was the leading candidate to receive the start for Saturday's season finale after Jaroslav Halak was in the net Friday against the Penguins, but the goalie's injury probably leaves Kevin Poulin, who was recalled from AHL Bridgeport on an emergency basis, as the likely starter. It's not clear how or when Neuvirth suffered the injury, but he'll be viewed as day-to-day in advance of the postseason.

Isles' Neuvirth Allows Three Goals In Loss

News: Michal Neuvirth allowed three goals on 24 shots in Saturday's loss to Anaheim.
Analysis: None of the goals can really be blamed on Michal Neuvirth, (breakaway, knocked in by teammate, swept in his crease), but the bottom line is with Buffalo Neuvirth had a .918 save percentage and with the Islanders, it's only .881.

Isles' Neuvirth Starting Saturday

News: Michal Neuvirth will start Saturday's game against the Ducks.
Analysis: Michal Neuvirth will get his first start since March 17 and fifth start in an Islanders uniform. He has a 1-2-1 record thus far, with a 2.91 GAA and .882 save percentage in the very limited sample size.

Neuvirth Allows Four As Isles Lose

News: Michal Neuvirth gave up four goals on 30 shots Tuesday in a 4-2 loss to the Blackhwks.
Analysis: He was killed by the trio of Jonathan Toews, Patrick Sharp and Marian Hossa, and there's no shame in that -- Michal Neuvirth's hardly the first goalie to be victimized by those prolific scorers. But it's still his third loss in four starts as an Islander.

Islanders' Neuvirth Starting Tuesday

News: Michal Neuvirth will start Tuesday's game against the Blackhawks, Newsday's Arthur Staple reports.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak (lower body) isn't traveling with the team, so Michal Neuvirth was all but a lock to get the start. Halak is merely considered day-to-day, but it wouldn't be surprising if he misses time beyond Tuesday. The Isles recalled Kevin Poulin from AHL Bridgeport to serve as Neuvirth's backup Tuesday night.

Neuvirth Likely To Start For Islanders On Tuesday

News: Michal Neuvirth is expected to get the start Tuesday versus the Blackhawks, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: Starting goaltender Jaroslav Halak didn't make the trip to Chicago as he is dealing with an undisclosed injury which will leave the starting job in the hands of Michal Neuvirth. He would be somewhat of a risky start however as playing the Blackhawks in Chicago isn't fun under the best of circumstances more or less when your team's offense has gone AWOL of late.

Isles' Neuvirth: 27 Saves In Loss

News: Michal Neuvirth stopped 27 shots in Saturday's 3-1 loss to Montreal. He was solid, but his own stickhandling gaffe in the second led directly to the game-winning goal.
Analysis: He was slow to a puck behind the net while the Isles were on the power play and a forechecking Lars Eller got to the puck first. Michal Neuvirth was a sitting duck when Max Pacioretty pounded the puck home. He is 1-1-1 in three outings since coming to Long Island.

Isles Rolling With Neuvirth On Saturday

News: Michal Neuvirth will be between the pipes for Saturday's game against the Canadiens.
Analysis: It's not much of a surprise that Michal Neuvirth will get the nod after Jaroslav Halak started Friday in Ottawa, finishing on the wrong end of a 2-1 loss. Neuvirth's stint with the Islanders hasn't gotten off to a promising start, as he's split his two decisions while allowing three goals apiece to mediocre offenses in the Maple Leafs and Panthers. He'll be hard-pressed to get the victory Saturday with Vezina Trophy frontrunner Carey Price manning the opposite net.

Isles' Neuvirth Stops 22 In Win

News: Michal Neuvirth stopped 22 of 25 shots in Monday's 4-3 win over the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: Making his second consecutive start, Michal Neuvirth once again allowed three goals but this time was on the winning end of an overtime contest. Jaroslav Halak figures to see the bulk of the action in net going forward, but Neuvirth should get more opportunities to pick up a win when he does get the starting nod now that he's on the Islanders.

Isles Turn To Neuvirth Monday

News: Michal Neuvirth will make his second straight start in net Monday against the Maple Leafs, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Michal Neuvirth got the start Saturday against the Panthers as well, but surrendered three goals en route to an overtime loss. His run in net will likely end after Monday, as the Isles have a back-to-back set with the Rangers on tap Tuesday. Neuvirth remains the backup to Jaroslav Halak, who will likely receive most of the starts the rest of the way.

Isles' Neuvirth Loses In Shootout

News: Michal Neuvirth made 15 saves through regulation Saturday and allowed just one goal in the shootout, but the Islanders came out on the losing end of a 4-3 score to the Panthers.
Analysis: The Panthers didn't have many shots, but the ones they had were dazzlers. Michal Neuvirth will play second fiddle to Jaroslav Halak for now, but could be auditioned for a bigger role for 2015-16. That means he's a match-ups guy going forward. Nothing more, nothing less.

Isles' Neuvirth To Make Team Debut Saturday

News: Michal Neuvirth will be in the net for Saturday's game against the Panthers, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Michal Neuvirth will make his Islanders debut with what projects to be a favorable matchup, something that could rarely be said during his days with the Sabres. The netminder, who had submitted a strong .918 save percentage in 27 games with the Sabres despite the lack of talent at forward and defensemen around him, should be one of the league's more useful backup goalies from a fantasy perspective, as the move to Long Island should give him a legitimate chance at coming away with a win most every time he takes the net. The Panthers look to be a mess right now, as they'll be without their top two goalies (Roberto Luongo and Al Montoya) and could be without a host of other skaters (perhaps including star rookie Aaron Ekblad) due to the flu bug that's made its way around the locker room.

Neuvirth Headed To Long Island In Goalie Swap

News: Michal Neuvirth was dealt to the Islanders on Monday in exchange for goalie Chad Johnson and a 2016 third-round draft pick, Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: With Michal Neuvirth sent packing, the Sabres have now traded away both of their top two goaltenders from the start of the season. It was after the deal that sent Jhonas Enroth to Dallas earlier this month that Neuvirth began to receive more intrigue around the league, as he thrived during his stint as the Sabres' No. 1 goalie, finishing February with a 3-4-2 record, 2.28 GAA, and .938 save percentage. While he will now be the clear backup to Jaroslav Halak on Long Island, Neuvirth will make for a serviceable spot-starting option nearly any occasion he takes the ice, due largely to the massive upgrade in his supporting cast that should result in more frequent wins. However, as a byproduct of having a superior defense in front of him, Neuvirth doesn't figure to see nearly as many shot attempts as he often faced in Buffalo, which could lead to a decline in his save percentage.

Sabres' Neuvirth Done In By Barrage Of Shots

News: Michal Neuvirth practically stood on his head Saturday -- making a whopping 42 saves on 46 shots -- but it wasn't enough as the Sabres lost 5-3 to the Panthers. The fifth goal was an empty-netter.
Analysis: Despite jumping out to an early 2-0 lead, the Sabres mustered just a total of 14 shots in the game, essentially leaving poor Michal Neuvirth hanging out to dry once again. The barrage of shots came at the hands of a Panthers team that simply wouldn't be denied in their pursuit of a playoff spot, with their breakthrough on Neuvirth finally coming with a three-goal flurry within 6:30 in the second period. Neuvirth now has a .918 save percentage and 2.99 GAA in 27 starts this year, a run that has featured just six wins for the unlucky Czech netminder.

Sabres Sticking With Hot Neuvirth For Saturday

News: Michal Neuvirth will be between the pipes for Saturday's game against the Panthers.
Analysis: Michal Neuvirth enters the crease Saturday looking to build on his first winning streak of the season, as he's captured back-to-back victories over the Blue Jackets and Canucks. Wins haven't come easy for any Sabres goalie the past two seasons, but Neuvirth has at least done a commendable job of keeping the team competitive since assuming the No. 1 gig in the wake of Jhonas Enroth's trade to the Stars. He's posted a .942 save percentage over eight starts in February and looks like he might be a reasonable fantasy option against a Panthers squad that ranks 25th in goals per game.

Sabres' Neuvirth Starts First Winning Streak

News: Michal Neuvirth stopped 28 of 31 shots Thursday against Vancouver, winning consecutive games for the first time in the 2014-15 season.
Analysis: Yep, you read that right. Nearly five months (and 26 starts) into the season, Michal Neuvirth's finally got his first two-game winning streak. He's actually been one of fantasy's better netminders in the month of February, with a save mark over .940, but there's always the risk of sudden and painful collapses when you're in net for this Sabres team.

Sabres Roll With Neuvirth

News: Michal Neuvirth is slated to start Thursday's game against Vancouver, the Buffalo News reports.
Analysis: Michal Neuvirth, who has been stopping plenty of pucks of late for the Sabres, will have his work cut out for him Thursday while going up against a Vancouver squad that has won two straight games and four of five contests overall.

Sabres' Neuvirth Fined For Diving

News: Michal Neuvirth was fined $2,000 for embellishing a hit against Nashville, reports the CBC.
Analysis: Well, this is a first. Michal Neuvirth becomes the first goalie to be fined under the NHL's new embellishment rules. The league ruled that Neuvirth embellished a bump from Nashville's Mike Santorelli, which resulted in an interference penalty and a power play opportunity for the Sabres. Neuvirth was fined because this was his second instance of diving, the first coming against the Leafs on Nov. 15, for which Neuvirth was given a warning. Neuvirth has been excellent for the Sabres of late and this fine shouldn't change anything on the ice.

Neuvirth's 45 Saves Lead Sabres Past Jackets

News: Michal Neuvirth stopped 45 of 47 on Tuesday, leading the way to a 4-2 win over the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: His team got outshot by 16, but Michal Neuvirth outplayed opposing minder Anton Forsberg to deliver the win. He's now delivered save marks of .930 or better in six consecutive starts, which is enough for a "hot" label even though he's won just twice in that span.

Sabres Turn To Neuvirth On Tuesday

News: Michal Neuvirth will start Tuesday's game against the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Michal Neuvirth (4-16-3) has allowed nine goals over his last five games, but wins have been tough to come by while playing behind the Sabres. He'll face a Blue Jackets squad Tuesday that has dropped consecutive decisions (to the Canadiens and Rangers).

Sabres' Neuvirth Sharp In Loss

News: Michal Neuvirth turned aside 37 of 38 shots, but allowed two goals in the shootout in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Predators.
Analysis: Michal Neuvirth has actually been playing well lately, but was dealt another tough luck loss -- his 13th in his last 14 starts -- as the offense in front of him once again failed to muster many offensive opportunities. His .917 save percentage isn't bad, but the 2.99 GAA and 4-16-3 record that go along with the lack of help in front of him significant diminishes the 26-year-old's fantasy value.

Neuvirth Starting In Goal For Sabres Sunday

News: Michal Neuvirth will start in goal for the Sabres Sunday against Nashville.
Analysis: This will be Michal Neuvirth's fifth straight start, but playing the sixth highest scoring team in the NHL could spell trouble given how hapless the Sabres are throughout. Any chance at a win for Neuvirth is going to be a longshot.
