Canes' Osala Leaving For KHL?

News: Osala, a prospect of the Hurricanes, made an announcement via Twitter on Wednesday that he intends on playing for Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk of the KHL next season, the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Osala had a very successful campaign with AHL Charlotte in 2010-11, scoring 13 times and setting up 29 goals, so it comes as a surprise that he would leave the Hurricanes' affiliate to play overseas. "I don't think it would be a good choice for him because we're calling these players up and if you're capable, there will be a spot here," GM Jim Rutherford said last week. "He's a big guy. He needs to improve his footspeed. If he can get a half-step (faster), he's a guy who might have a chance to play here."

Canes' Osala Booming In Minor League

News: Osala, a prospect of the Hurricanes, currently has 40 points (13 G, 27 A) playing for AHL Charlotte.
Analysis: Osala was drafted by the Capitals in the fourth round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, and traded to the 'Canes in March of 2010. This two-way player's strong 2010-11 campaign in the minors should put him in the spotlight as one of the best prospects hanging around in Carolina's organization.

Hurricanes call up Osala

News: The Hurricanes have recalled LW Oskar Osala from Albany. Osala was acquired in the Joe Corvo deal at the deadline.
Analysis: Osala, a fourth-round pick from 2006, has 31 points in 55 AHL games this season. He is pretty much just organizational depth for now, so continue to ignore him in all Fantasy formats.

Corvo to Caps for Osala, Pothier

News: The Hurricanes have traded D Joe Corvo to the Capitals for LW Oskar Osala and D Brian Pothier.
Analysis: Corvo had a 48-point campaign in 2007-08 with Carolina, but his offensive game has taken a dive since then with 38 points last year and just 12 points in 34 games this year. He missed a chunk of time with a broken leg and hasn't picked up a point since returning. He obviously finds himself on a much better squad in Washington and could certainly find his game again playing with guys like Alexander Ovechkin, Nicklas Backstrom and Alexander Semin. Don't activate Corvo just yet until we see what his exact role will be, but you might want to add him in deeper leagues if he's available and you have the roster room. Osala, a fourth-round pick from 2006, has 29 points in 53 AHL games this season but has no long-term keeper value at the moment. Pothier, meanwhile, is a veteran defensive presence who has dealt with a slew of injuries over the last few seasons. His minimal value will take a bit of a hit with this move south.

Capitals recall two from AHL

News: Washington recalled forwards Keith Aucoin and Oskar Osala from Hershey of the AHL Friday. Aucoin had an assist against the Lightning, while Osala failed to stat in 6:12 of ice time.
Analysis: Both Aucoin and Osala are up because of injuries, but it might only be a short time until they are back with Hershey. Neither player is a favorable Fantasy option.

Capitals send two to the AHL

News: The Capitals reassigned forward Oskar Osala and defenseman Sean Collins to Hershey of the AHL Friday.
Analysis: Both Osala and Collins are nothing more than organizational depth for the Capitals. They can be ignored in Fantasy for the time being.

Osala up with Capitals

News: The Washington Post reports that the Capitals have called up LW Oskar Osala from the AHL.
Analysis: Osala, a fourth-round pick from 2006, has 22 points (16G, 6A) in 26 games with Hershey this season, his first year in the AHL. He has no Fantasy value at this time.
