News: Marc-Andre Cliche signed a two-year, $1.4 million extension with the Avalanche on Thursday.
Analysis: After being claimed off waivers from the Kings earlier this season, Marc-Andre Cliche has become a useful depth forward for the Avalanche, even if his modest numbers don't suggest as much. He offers most of his value on the defensive end for the Avs.

Analysis: Marc-Andre Cliche's presence on the fourth line typically limits his offensive responsibilities, but nearly every starter had a chance to pick up a point against the hapless Sabres. Don't view Saturday's goal as a sign of things to come for Cliche.

News: Marc-Andre Cliche was claimed off waivers from the Kings by the Avalanche on Sunday, the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Marc-Andre Cliche will have to be paid his full contract of $550,000 regardless of whether he's in the majors or in the AHL. He could provide depth at center for the Avs this season.

News: Marc-Andre Cliche was placed on waivers with the intent of assigning him to Manchester of the AHL.
Analysis: The Kings also sent goalie J.F. Berube and forwards Robert Czarnik, Justin Johnson and Rob Mignardi to Manchester and defensemen Michael Cajkovsky, Colin Miller and Alex Roach back to their junior squads. Richard Clune and David Meckler were also placed on waivers.

News: The Los Angeles Kings traded LW Sean Avery and minor-league prospect LW John Seymour to the New York Rangers for RW Jason Ward and unsigned prospects Marc-Andre Cliche and Jan Marek.
Analysis: Cliche is a 19-year-old prospect playing with Lewiston of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. He has managed 15 goals and 36 points in 35 games. He is at least a few years away from competing for a spot in the NHL.
