Habs' Gilbert Set To Play Wednesday

News: Tom Gilbert (upper body) will return to the lineup for Wednesday's postseason opener against the Senators, John Lu of TSN reports.
Analysis: With Tom Gilbert now healthy after missing the Canadiens' last two regular-season contests, Sergei Gonchar, Greg Pateryn, and Mike Weaver will head to the press box to serve as the healthy scratches on defense. The 32-year-old Gilbert had a rough first season in Montreal, seeing his scoring total drop 16 points from the total of 28 he posted with the Panthers in 2013-14.

Habs' Gilbert Practices Monday

News: Tom Gilbert (upper body) practiced with the Canadiens on Monday, Eric Engels of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Tom Gilbert's participation in practice could have him in line for a return to the lineup when the Canadiens begin their first-round playoff series with the Senators on Wednesday. The blueliner missed the Habs' final two regular-season contests due to the injury.

Habs' Gilbert Could Be Option For Saturday

News: Tom Gilbert (upper body) will travel to Toronto for Saturday's regular-season finale.
Analysis: Tom Gilbert wasn't a participant in Friday's practice due to the injury, but coach Michel Therrien reaffirmed afterwards that the blueliner is day-to-day. He'll still have the opportunity to play Saturday if he's able to take part in the Habs' morning skate without incident.

Habs Scratch Gilbert With Injury

News: Tom Gilbert will miss Thursday's game against the Red Wings with an upper-body injury.
Analysis: Tom Gilbert recently returned to the lineup after fracturing his jaw, so it's possible he may still be experiencing some sensitivity in that area. The Habs are listing him as a day-to-day, which will give Gilbert a shot at returning to the lineup for Saturday's regular-season finale against the Maple Leafs. Gilbert will be replaced by Greg Pateryn on Thursday.

Habs' Gilbert Returns

News: Tom Gilbert returned to the lineup Thursday after missing four games with a fractured jaw. He scored a goal and had a team-high four blocked shots over 21:28 of ice time in a 5-4 shootout loss to Washington.
Analysis: Tom Gilbert, who wore extra protection on his helmet, skated on the third pairing with Nathan Beaulieu. At plus-9 for the season, Gilbert ranks third among the team's defensemen.

Habs' Gilbert Back In Thursday

News: Tom Gilbert (jaw) will play Thursday against the Capitals.
Analysis: The fractured jaw sidelined Tom Gilbert for four games. He'll enter back in on the Habs' third defensive pairing, replacing Greg Pateryn.

Habs' Gilbert May Play Thursday

News: Tom Gilbert (fractured jaw) practiced on the third defensive pairing Tuesday and could be back in the lineup for Thursday's game against Washington, the Montreal Gazette reports.
Analysis: Changes on the blue line were expected after Monday night's loss to Tampa Bay, a game in which head coach Michel Therrien was not pleased with the defense. Tom Gilbert has been out the last four games due to the injury.

Habs' Gilbert Out Saturday

News: Tom Gilbert (face) will not play Saturday against the Panthers, Jessica Rusnak of TSN Radio 690 reports.
Analysis: Tom Gilbert was able to skate on his own Saturday morning, but his lack of involvement in team work suggests he'll sit for a third straight game. Nathan Beaulieu will be able to remain in the lineup with Gilbert still unavailable.

Habs' Gilbert To Sit Out Next Two

News: Tom Gilbert (face), who has already been ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Predators, will also sit out Thursday's tilt with the Jets, the Montreal Gazette reports.
Analysis: The Habs decided not to bring Tom Gilbert along on their road trip after he took a puck to the jaw in Saturday's win over the Sharks. Nathan Beaulieu is slated to fill in for Gilbert in the interim.

Habs' Gilbert (Face) Won't Travel With Team

News: Tom Gilbert (face) won't travel with the team to Nashville, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Analysis: Tom Gilbert took a puck to the face in Saturday's tilt against the Sharks and did not return. He also skipped Monday's practice, and it appears the issue will hold him out Tuesday as well. He should be considered day-to-day moving forward, and his next chance to return will come Thursday against the Jets.

Canadiens' Gilbert Exits Early With Face Injury

News: Tom Gilbert took a puck to the face in Saturday's game against the Sharks and will not return to the ice, Arpon Basu of LNH.com reports.
Analysis: The exact severity of Tom Gilbert's injury is still unknown so he should be considered day-to-day until further news is released by the Canadiens. Fortunately for the 32-year-old, Montreal will have a couple of days to rest before the team faces the Predators on Tuesday.

Gilbert Sparks Montreal Comeback

News: Tom Gilbert's second period goal sparked a comeback that fell short in Thursday night's 4-3 shootout loss to the Kings. In addition to his third goal of the season, Gilbert also had three blocked shots and skated a season-high 25:52.
Analysis: Los Angeles had dominated play for the first 30 minutes of the game until Tom Gilbert's individual-effort goal ignited the Canadiens, who went on to take a 3-2 lead before losing in the shootout. Gilbert has formed a nice 3-4 defensive pairing with newcomer Jeff Petry.

Habs' Gilbert Fills In

News: Tom Gilbert replaced the injured Sergei Gonchar (upper body) for Monday night's 2-0 win over the Red Wings.
Analysis: Tom Gilbert led the Canadiens with five blocked shots while skating on the second pairing with Alexi Emelin.

Habs' Gilbert Gets Assist, Two PIM In Loss

News: Tom Gilbert collected an assist and two PIM in Sunday's loss to the Coyotes.
Analysis: Tom Gilbert has typically occupied a spot on the Habs' third defensive pairing over Mike Weaver over the last several games, but it still amounts to a diminished role from what he enjoyed with the Panthers a season ago. As a top-four player for Florida in 2013-14, Gilbert tallied 28 points in 73 games; a three-minute drop in ice time this season has limited the blueliner's production with Montreal to just nine points thus far.

Habs' Gilbert: Surprising Two-Point Game

News: Tom Gilbert scored a goal and added an assist in Saturday's 4-1 win over Pittsburgh. The goal was his first since Oct. 28.
Analysis: He has just seven points on the season and it was his first two-point game since January, 2014. He's not known for his offense, so don't mistake this burst as fantasy worthy. He's not likely to help your roster.

Canadiens' Gilbert Scratched Friday

News: Tom Gilbert is a healthy scratch Friday night, Hockey Inside Out reports.
Analysis: Head coach Michel Therrien will go with just six defensemen Friday, so someone had to sit.

Habs' Gilbert A Likely Healthy Scratch

News: Tom Gilbert will likely be a healthy scratch Saturday against the Bruins, Marc Antoine Godin of the Montreal Gazette reports.
Analysis: It appears that the acquisition of Bryan Allen from the Ducks on Thursday will squeeze Tom Gilbert out of the lineup, as he skated as an extra with Nathan Beaulieu at the team's morning skate. Gilbert has shown more offensive upside in the past than Allen, but that production hasn't seemed to translate in his first season in Montreal. He's mustered just three points to accompany his plus-7 rating over 21 games.

Habs' Gilbert Scores First

News: Tom Gilbert scored his first goal of the season in Tuesday night's 2-1 shootout win over Calgary.
Analysis: The lone goal ended up being just enough for netminder Carey Price, who locked the Flames out of his own net 36 times in 37 shots. Tom Gilbert's not the first name we think of when talking about scoring defensemen on the Habs' blue line, but his snap shot found its way past the Flames' Jonas Hiller to bring the game even. He has two points and is plus-3 in 10 games.

Canadiens' Gilbert Makes Debut

News: Tom Gilbert made his debut in a Canadiens uniform in Wednesday night's win over Toronto. He had four blocked shots, two hits and four minutes in penalties while finishing a plus-1 in 22:29 of ice time.
Analysis: Tom Gilbert is the replacement for Josh Gorges as one of the Habs' top-four blue-liners. If he continues to block four shots a game, the Montreal faithful will not notice a difference. One other note, Gilbert skated 1:01 on the second-unit power play.

Habs' Gilbert To Pair With Markov

News: Tom Gilbert looks like he'll pair up with Andrei Markov on defense this season, Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette reports.
Analysis: Inked by the Habs to a two-year contract in July, Tom Gilbert has been next to Markov since Day 1 in camp, and the pair has seemed to click. Though both blueliners are puck-movers rather than true stay-at-home defensemen, the two vets are both savvy enough to know when to take risks and when to play it safe. It may be difficult for Gilbert to improve upon the 28 points he accrued in 73 games with the Panthers last season, but he shouldn't have much difficulty finishing on the positive side in plus/minus rating now that he's a member of the Eastern Conference runner-ups.

Gilbert Signs With Montreal

News: The Canadiens have signed Tom Gilbert (hernia) to a two-year, $5.6 million contract, CBC.ca reports.
Analysis: Tom Gilbert, who recorded 28 points in 73 games for the Panthers this past season, helps fill the void on the Montreal blue line left by Josh Gorges, who was dealt to the Sabres on Tuesday.

Panthers' Gilbert To Undergo Season-Ending Surgery

News: Tom Gilbert will undergo season-ending sports hernia surgery Thursday, Craig Davis of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Analysis: Perhaps the sports hernia injury explains Tom Gilbert's vanishing production, as the defenseman totaled only four points in his past 21 games. The procedure will likely only require a couple of months of recovery time, which shouldn't hurt Gilbert's chances of landing a deal in free agency. He finishes the 2013-14 campaign with 28 points, 59 hits and 95 blocks over 73 contests.

Panthers' Gilbert Is Ice Cold

News: Tom Gilbert was held pointless yet again in 20:56 minutes of ice-time Tuesday night as the Panthers fell 3-2 to the Senators in a shootout.
Analysis: After scoring 24 points in his first 52 games this season, Tom Gilbert has only tallied one goal and three assists in his past 21 games. He still plays top-four minutes for the Cats, but the post-Olympic break has been a big disappointment for the veteran defenseman.

Panthers' Gilbert Scores In Victory

News: Tom Gilbert scored his third goal of the season in Tuesday night's 4-1 win over the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: Tom Gilbert is tied with Brian Campbell for the team lead in points by a defenseman with 25. The two form quite the offensive tandem as the Panthers' top defensive pair and they both see top minutes on the power play. Gilbert is worth the pickup if he is somehow still on the waiver wire.

Gilbert Active In Florida Loss

News: Tom Gilbert assisted on both Florida goals in Friday's loss to Colorado, giving him four assists in the last two games.
Analysis: Tom Gilbert has quietly been one of the league's more rewarding waiver pickups, giving owners a healthy amount of assists on a team that has trouble scoring at times. Gilbert has 20 assists on the year and isn't a bad option in a pinch for those in daily leagues.
