Pavelec, Jets Fold In Game 4

News: Ondrej Pavelec surrendered four goals on 34 shots in Wednesday's series-ending loss to the Ducks.
Analysis: The Jets needed Ondrej Pavelec to replicate his sensational second-half play during the series to have any shot of upsetting the powerful Ducks, but he just couldn't come through. Pavelec gave up four-plus goals three times against the Ducks, and his offense simply wasn't able to pick him up. Fantasy players will have the difficult task next season of assessing whether Pavelec's improved performance in 2014-15 marked a step in the right direction, or merely an aberration for a goalie who owns an ugly 2.86 GAA and .908 save percentage over his career. His postseason play seemed to suggest it's the latter.

Jets Go With Pavelec For Elimination Game

News: Ondrej Pavelec will be between the pipes for Wednesday's Game 4 against the Ducks.
Analysis: Ondrej Pavelec has had a rough first three games of the series, posting a 3.61 GAA and .893 save percentage while taking the loss on all three occasions. Even so, coach Paul Maurice will maintain loyalty to Pavelec, whose dazzling performance down the stretch was largely responsible for why the team was able to secure its playoff spot in the first place. Frederik Andersen will receive the start in the opposite net.

Jets' Pavelec Implodes Monday

News: Ondrej Pavelec surrendered five goals on 31 shots -- including the overtime game-winner -- in Monday's Game 3 defeat to the Ducks.
Analysis: After closing the regular season with three consecutive shutouts, Ondrej Pavelec entered the postseason hotter than just about any goalie out there. Unfortunately, he's failed to replicate that performance thus far in the playoffs, stopping only 92 of the 103 shots (.893 save percentage) he's faced through three games while taking the loss on each occasion. Even with the Jets on the cusp of elimination, it doesn't seem likely that coach Paul Maurice will turn away from Pavelec for Game 4, especially after backup goalie Michael Hutchinson regressed badly in the second half.

Jets Stick With Pavelec On Monday

News: Ondrej Pavelec is slated to start Monday's game against the Ducks.
Analysis: Down 2-0 in the series, Ondrej Pavelec and the Jets will look to turn things around at home on Monday, after having been outscored by a combined tally of 6-3 over the first two games of the matchup, which were held in Anaheim.

Jets' Pavelec Outstanding In Game 2 Loss

News: Ondrej Pavelec stopped 37 of 39 shots in Saturday's Game 2 loss to the Ducks.
Analysis: A fantastic bounce-back effort from Ondrej Pavelec, who beaten for four goals in Thursday's playoff opener. While Pavelec was great Saturday, the Ducks are now up 2-0 in the series and have looked like the better team. With Game 3 set to take place in Winnipeg Monday, look for Pavelec to put up another strong performance in front of what's sure to be an electric home crowd.

Jets' Pavelec Battered In Game 1 Third Period

News: Ondrej Pavelec allowed four goals on 33 shots Thursday to take a playoff-opening loss in Anaheim.
Analysis: Staked to a 2-1 lead at the second intermission, Ondrej Pavelec gave up three third-period goals -- two on the power play and one shorthanded -- as the Ducks' stars rallied to victory. Pavelec entered the playoffs red-hot, but he has little room for error, as the Jets desperately need to leave Anaheim with a win in one of the first two games of this series.

Jets' Pavelec Draws Game 1 Start

News: Ondrej Pavelec will be in the crease for Thursday's Game 1 against the Ducks, Tim Campbell of the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Analysis: Ondrej Pavelec looked to be on the outs as the Jets' primary netminder after Michael Hutchinson rolled to a 14-4-2 record, 1.90 GAA, and .935 save percentage prior to the All-Star break, but appears to have found a second life. Hutchinson's subsequent second-half collapse opened the door for Pavelec to earn more starts, and the veteran goalie has since delivered some of the best performances of his career to secure the No. 1 job heading into the postseason. Aside from maybe the Senators' Andrew Hammond, no goalie enters the postseason hotter than Pavelec, who posted a 9-2-1 mark and .949 save percentage in his last 12 outings, including shutouts in the final three starts.

Jets' Pavelec Gets Third Straight Shutout, Loses

News: Ondrej Pavelec stopped all 21 shots he faced through 65 minutes, but gave up goals on both Colorado shootout attempts to take a 1-0 loss Thursday.
Analysis: Ondrej Pavelec still gets credited with a shutout -- his third in a row -- as does Reto Berra, who stopped 21 more shots in regulation play, then outdueled Pavs handily in the shootout. The Jets' offense has been minimally helpful over the course of Pavelec's shutout streak, but his heroics were enough to help the franchise secure its first playoff spot since moving from Atlanta to Winnipeg.

Pavelec In Net As Jets Look To Secure Playoff Spot

News: Ondrej Pavelec will be between the pipes for Thursday's game against the Avalanche, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: After building a six-game winning streak in March, Ondrej Pavelec looked bound to revert back to his historically poor form upon surrendering 11 goals during a three-game slate. Instead, he rebounded from that rough spell to spin back-to-back shutouts over playoff-bound teams in the Wild and Blues, outings that firmly reestablished himself as the Jets' top goalie. If he's able to put the clamps on the Avalanche on Thursday, Pavelec will lead the Jets to the postseason for the first time since 2006-07, when they were known as the Atlanta Thrashers.

Back-To-Back Shutouts For Jets' Pavelec

News: Ondrej Pavelec collected his second shutout in as many days Tuesday, stopping all 30 in a 1-0 win over St. Louis.
Analysis: Following a three-game stretch in which he gave up 11 goals and lost twice, Ondrej Pavelec's locked things down again all of a sudden -- and against high-quality opponents. His stats just keep improving, and he's got the Jets right in the midst of the playoff hunt.

Jets Turn To Pavelec On Tuesday

News: Ondrej Pavelec is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Blues, Ed Tait of the Winnipeg Free Press reports.
Analysis: The Jets will stick with Ondrej Pavelec (who has won his last two starts) on the heels of his 32-save effort in Monday's 2-0 win over the Wild. He'll face a Blues squad that has won three straight by a combined tally of 13-7.

Pavelec Perfect In Jets' Win Over Wild

News: Ondrej Pavelec set aside 32 shots Monday en route to a 2-0 shutout of the Wild.
Analysis: Ondrej Pavelec has emerged the victor in his last two games, with the clutch play leaving the Jets only two points behind the Wild in the Western Conference postseason race. The veteran goalie's performance Monday improves his save percentage to .917 on the season, good for 16th in the league.

Jets Turn To Pavelec On Monday

News: Ondrej Pavelec is slated to start Monday's game against the Wild.
Analysis: Ondrej Pavelec, who backstopped the Jets' 5-4 victory over Vancouver on Saturday, will take aim at a Minnesota squad that has dropped two straight games heading into Monday's action.

Jets' Pavelec Comes Out On Top Saturday

News: Ondrej Pavelec wasn't great Saturday in allowing four goals on 30 shots to the Canucks, but came away the victor as Winnipeg prevailed 5-4.
Analysis: Ondrej Pavelec probably didn't deserve the W in this one, but a win is a win. He's been shaky over his last three games -- allowing four, three, and four goals in each -- but he's started nine of the Jets' last 10 games and will likely get the nod for most, if not all of their remaining four games as they push for a playoff berth.

Jets' Pavelec In The Net Saturday

News: Ondrej Pavelec (illness) will be in the net for Saturday's game against the Canucks, Darrin Baumig of TSN 1290 reports.
Analysis: Ondrej Pavelec was forced out of Thursday's practice with the illness, but it was never considered anything that would jeopardize his status for Saturday's game. After building a six-game winning streak, Pavelec seems to have regressed his last two times out, taking losses to the Blackhawks and Rangers while yielding a total of seven goals. The Jets enter Saturday's game tied with the Kings for the eighth spot in the Western Conference, so the team will need Pavelec to come up huge over the next week as it chases down a playoff berth.

Jets' Pavelec Misses Practice With Illness

News: Ondrej Pavelec missed Thursday's practice with an illness, Kirk Penton of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: The goalie's illness isn't believed to be serious, but it could nonetheless prompt coach Paul Maurice to tap Michael Hutchinson for the start in net Saturday against the Canucks. While Ondrej Pavelec has been serving as the Jets' No. 1 netminder for the last couple of weeks, his performance has slipped on the heels of a six-game winning streak. Pavelec has lost his last two times out while conceding seven goals on 48 shots.

Pavelec, Jets Downed By Late Goal

News: Ondrej Pavelec gave up three goals on 24 shots -- including Chris Kreider's game-winner with 3:46 remaining -- in Tuesday's loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: The Jets took 1-0 and 2-1 leads in this one, but gave them back both times. Though this is Ondrej Pavelec's second consecutive loss, he was solid in net; the Jets just hung him out to dry one too many times. The Jets don't play again until Saturday, and it's unclear whether they'll roll out Pavelec or Michael Hutchinson in net come the weekend.

Jets Turn To Pavelec On Tuesday

News: Ondrej Pavelec is slated to start Tuesday's contest against the Rangers, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
Analysis: Ondrej Pavelec, who will look to bounce back from Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Blackhawks, will take aim Tuesday at a Rangers squad that has dropped two straight contests by a combined tally of 9-4.

Jets' Pavelec Sees Winning Streak Come To End

News: Ondrej Pavelec surrendered four goals on 24 shots in Sunday's loss to the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Ondrej Pavelec entered the crease Sunday with a season-best six-game winning streak, but couldn't solve the Blackhawks, who have been a persistent nemesis throughout his career. The defeat shouldn't alter Pavelec's standing as the Jets' No. 1 netminder, as his play over the preceding outings had been the primary reason the team remains in the driver's seat for the final wild-card spot out West. That being said, Pavelec's career 2.89 GAA and .907 save percentage suggest his recent run of elite play isn't sustainable, so it's tough to bet on him displacing Michael Hutchinson from the top spot on the depth chart for good.

Jets To Start Red-Hot Pavelec On Sunday

News: Ondrej Pavelec will be between the pipes for Sunday's tilt with the Blackhawks, Brian Munz of TSN 1290 reports.
Analysis: Despite Ondrej Pavelec's horrid career numbers against the Blackhawks (0-3-2, 4.61 GAA, .867 save percentage in five outings), the Jets will stick with the goalie while he enjoys his most productive run of play this season. He's won six straight starts while yielding only seven goals during that stretch.

Red-Hot Pavelec Makes 39 Saves As Jets Win

News: Ondrej Pavelec stopped 39 of 41 shots Thursday against Montreal to come away with his sixth consecutive victory.
Analysis: Man, he's been good lately. Over these six starts, Ondrej Pavelec hasn't finished with a save mark worse than .938, and he's given up a grand total of just seven goals. Wow. It's anyone's guess whether the consistently inconsistent Pavelec can keep it up, but he's certainly been acquitting himself well against some of the league's better teams.

Jets' Pavelec Back In Net Thursday

News: Ondrej Pavelec will be in the crease for Thursday's game against the Canadiens, 680 CJOB Sports reports.
Analysis: Ondrej Pavelec hasn't turned into a pumpkin yet while guiding the Jets to wins in his last five starts, so he'll continue to function as the team's No. 1 goalie. While Pavelec's career track record shouldn't instill much long-term confidence from his fantasy owners, the goalie's current level of play makes him a reliable activation for the time being. He'll catch a break Thursday in squaring off against Habs backup goalie Dustin Tokarski instead of Vezina Trophy frontrunner Carey Price.

Fifth Straight Win For Jets' Pavelec

News: Ondrej Pavelec stopped all but one of 34 shots in Monday's 4-1 win over the Oilers.
Analysis: Ondrej Pavelec is a perfect 5-for-5 over the last five games for Winnipeg, earning wins in each while allowing a miniscule five goals over that span. He's helped the Jets keep pace in the Western Conference playoff race despite some key injuries to Dustin Byfuglien and Bryan Little, and has a firm grasp on the starter's role over Michael Hutchinson at the moment. If you need a goalie for the final stretch of the season, go see if he's available.

Jets Turn To Pavelec On Monday

News: Ondrej Pavelec is slated to start Monday's game against the Oilers, Jack Michaels of the Oilers Radio Network reports.
Analysis: Ondrej Pavelec, who made 28 saves in Saturday's 3-0 win over Washington, enters Monday's game on a roll, having won four straight starts, while allowing just four goals in that span.

Jets' Pavelec Rolls Shutout

News: Ondrej Pavelec made 28 saves Saturday in a 3-0 win over Washington. He has won four-straight starts.
Analysis: He made several 10-bell saves and benefitted from three post saves, too. He has only allowed four goals in 245 minutes of action over those five games and has defeated the Bolts, Blues, Sharks and Caps in that span. Take advantage.
