Blues Trade Polak To Maple Leafs

News: Roman Polak was traded to the Maple Leafs on Saturday in exchange for Carl Gunnarsson, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports. The right-handed shot will bring a nasty edge to the Leafs' blue line.
Analysis: Roman Polak, who has been a consistent presence in the St. Louis lineup since 2008-09, should prove to be an upgrade for the defensively challenged Leafs. He will provide a stay-at-home rudder for either Morgan Reilly or Jake Gardiner in the second pairing and allow the youngsters to accelerate their growth. But he probably won't be a fantasy factor. He delivered four goals, nine assists and 71 PIM in 72 games last season.

Blues' Polak Continuing Solid Play

News: Roman Polak has three goals and five assists in 47 games so far this season.
Analysis: Roman Polak provides a physical presence along the blue line in St. Louis, but doesn't chip in very much offensively. He does sport a decent plus-8 rating though, and his 37 PIM give him a little added value.

Blues' Polak Activated, Will Play Tuesday

News: Roman Polak (ankle) was activated from IR and will play Tuesday against the Coyotes, Lou Korac of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: An ankle injury cost Roman Polak nearly a month of action, but he'll slot back into the lineup Tuesday against Phoenix. In 34 games prior to the injury, Polak recorded three goals, four assists, a plus-7 rating and 24 penalty minutes.

Blues' Polak A Full Participant Monday

News: Roman Polak (ankle) was a full participant in Monday's practice, NHL.com's Lou Korac reports.
Analysis: Roman Polak has missed nearly three weeks with the ankle injury, but a return looks imminent now that he's back with the rest of his teammates without any apparent limitations. He could be a lineup option for Tuesday's game vs. the Coyotes.

Blues' Polak Skates Monday, Nearing Return

News: Roman Polak (ankle) is nearing a return after skating Monday, Dan O'Neill of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: The veteran blueliner was not included in the Czech Republic's Olympic roster Tuesday, so he'll be given that break to heal rather than be in a position to log extra wear and tear on behalf of his country.

Blues' Polak To Miss At Least Two Weeks

News: Roman Polak will miss at least two weeks with an ankle injury, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Although the loss of Roman Polak hurts the Blues on the defensive end to some degree, he's nowhere near as valuable a fantasy commodity as fellow blue line mates Jay Bouwmeester, Alex Pietrangelo, and Kevin Shattenkirk. With just seven points in 34 games, Polak's absence should only be felt in leagues that reward hits and blocks.

Blues' Polak Lands On IR On Saturday

News: Roman Polak (lower-body) has been placed on injured reserve Saturday.
Analysis: There is little word as to the exact nature of the injury and no timetable for his recovery has been given just yet. Expect the team to make an additional announcement soon enough.

Polak Remains Steady For Blues

News: Roman Polak is on pace to match his career high in points and to exceed his best plus/minus.
Analysis: Though these high-water marks represent only 21 points and a plus-9, they very well could be better numbers than the last defenseman on your roster. He won't kill you in ice time and will get you a few penalty minutes. It also doesn't hurt that he plays for one of the best teams in the league.

Polak Scores First For St. Louis

News: Roman Polak picked up his first goal of the season as the Blues fell to San Jose 6-2.
Analysis: The goal gives Roman Polak double digit goals for his career (10). So, needless to say he is not going to picked up for his offensive ability. If your league rewards you for blocked shots and hits then he might be a player to target.

Blues' Polak Stops Eight

News: Roman Polak blocked eight shots Sunday night in St. Louis' 4-3 shootout win over Vancouver.
Analysis: Roman Polak, normally amongst the team leaders in blocked shots, had been lagging in that particular category to start the season. He now has 20 through 15 games, fourth on the team.

Blues' Polak A Minus-3 Saturday

News: Roman Polak was a minus-3 in Saturday's loss to Anaheim and is now minus-7 in the Blues' last three games.
Analysis: Roman Polak's not the only defenseman that's struggled of late in St. Louis' four-game losing streak, so we shouldn't highlight only him. Wayne Redden is minus-6 in the last four; Kris Russell is minus-4 in the last two; Alex Pietrangelo is minus-5 in the last four; Kevin Shattenkirk is minus-3 in the last four. You get the point. A team's best defenseman is the goalie. Unfortunately, the Blues have not been getting good tending from Brian Elliott and that reflects poorly on the defenders up front.

Blues' Polak Signs With Czech Team

News: Roman Polak has agreed to a deal with HC Vitkovice of the Czech League, Octagon-Hockey reports.

Polak Returning For St. Louis

News: Roman Polak (knee) is expected to play against Columbus on Saturday, St. Louis Post-Dispatch writer Jeremy Rutherford reports.
Analysis: Roman Polak has just 11 points on the year, so his return is unlikely to change things in most fantasy leagues.

Blues' Polak Sidelined

News: Roman Polak (knee) won't travel to Chicago for Thursday's game, Lou Korac of the Alton Telegraph reports.
Analysis: The Blues do hope that Roman Polak will be ready by Saturday, but with just 11 assists in 73 games to date, he's only of note to deep-leaguers.

Blues' Polak Iffy For Thursday

News: Roman Polak, who was a late scratch Wednesday with a bruised knee, is iffy for Thursday's game against the Kings, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Roman Polak is a stay-at-home type, whose only chance of helping out fantasy owners lies in the hits (164) and blocks (134) he racks up. He has 11 assists in 73 games to date.

Blues' Polak Scratched

News: Roman Polak was scratched from Wednesday night's game against the Ducks because of a bruised knee, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Roman Polak suffered the injury during a morning skate over the weekend and played through the injury in one game. He was replaced in the lineup Wednesday by Ian Cole.

Blues' Polak Playing Through Ding

News: Roman Polak left Saturday's morning skate early with a sore knee, but was able to play in Saturday night's game against Tampa Bay, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Polak Leaves, Returns In Blues' Win

News: Roman Polak was forced to leave Wednesday night's win over Edmonton in the second period with a shoulder injury, but was able to return for the third period, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

No Hearing For Blues' Polak

News: No hearing has been scheduled or expected for Roman Polak, who received a five-minute major and game misconduct for slashing Edmonton's Taylor Hall on Thursday, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Blues' Polak Nursing Undisclosed Injury

News: Roman Polak has been skating on his own during practices as he's been nursing an undisclosed injury he first suffered in a game against Detroit on Dec. 27, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Analysis: Whatever's ailing Roman Polak, you can't see it in games. He's coming off a five-block, three-hit night in Tuesday's win over Phoenix. "We decided after the Detroit game that if we're going to get 100 percent from (Polak) during the games this period of time, we needed to not beat on him," Blues head coach Ken Hitchcock said. Polak had a short night Thursday, picking up 15 minutes in penalties, including a game misconduct and a five-minute major for slashing.

Blues' Polak Involved On Blue Line

News: Roman Polak had five blocked shots and three hits in St. Louis' win over Phoenix on Tuesday.
Analysis: Roman Polak has the ability to join rushes and makes good passes, but he knows his job on the team and it starts with playing defense. He's second on the team in hits and leads in blocked shots.
