Leafs Deal Winnik To Penguins

News: Daniel Winnik was acquired by the Penguins on Wednesday in exchange for forward Zach Sill, a 2016 second-round draft pick, and a 2015 fourth-round draft pick.
Analysis: Daniel Winnik's name has been tossed about in trade rumors since the Maple Leafs began their January swoon, so his move to a contending club doesn't come as a major surprise. He'll likely see less ice time with the Penguins than he enjoyed in Toronto, but he should benefit from skating next to more talented playmakers. Should he receive an appointment to the Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin line, Winnik could warrant a speculative pickup in deeper formats. He's accumulated seven goals and 25 points in 58 games while skating alongside lesser centers this season.

Toronto's Winnik: Five Points In Last Six Games

News: Daniel Winnik scored a goal and added an assist in Saturday's )T win over Winnipeg. He has five points, including three goals, in his last six games.
Analysis: This guy is all in every single time he hits the ice. He'll garner the attention of several teams before the deadline, but we'd actually love to see him stick in Toronto. He seems to be able to play with Nazem Kadri and we all know that Kadri's had a hard time finding linemates who understand how he plays the game. He's a depth play at this point.

Winnik Continues To Pace Leafs

News: Daniel Winnik scored the Leafs' only goal in Saturday's 2-1 shootout loss to the Canadiens.
Analysis: He has three goals and an assist in his last six games, and is a remarkable plus-four in that span (the Leafs are 1-4-1 in those games). Wouldn't it be great if his skill matched his work ethic?

Leafs' Winnik Gets Goal, Assist In Loss

News: Daniel Winnik scored a goal and added an assist in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: He's actually on a career pace at this point in the season and busts his hump on every shift, something that few Leafs are actually doing right now. And he's one of a small handful of Leafs with a positive rating (plus-13). Daniel Winnik will probably be traded to a contender before the deadline, but that won't improve his fantasy value -- he's still a lower-line mucker who's a depth play at best.

Leafs' Winnik Nabs Goal In Defeat

News: Daniel Winnik tallied his fourth goal of the season in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Predators.
Analysis: Daniel Winnik was denied of a second goal in the third period, when his shot with 16:52 remaining rang off the post. Three of his four goals on the season have come within the last month, but that level of production isn't likely to have fantasy players scrambling to the waiver wire to add him.

Leafs' Winnik Records Two Points, Plus-3 In Win

News: Daniel Winnik scored his third goal of the season, had an assist and was a plus-3 in Friday's win over Columbus.
Analysis: Daniel Winnik, who has scored in back-to-back games, now has three goals and 17 points in 40 games to go with a team-best plus-15 rating. Currently skating in a top-six role and on pace for a career-best 35 points, Winnik can be valuable in some deeper leagues.

Leafs' Winnik Gets First Goal In 29 Games

News: Daniel Winnik scored a goal in Wednesday's loss to Washington. The goal snapped a 28-game drought.
Analysis: It's also his first point in eight games. There is some room for improvement here, as he's firing at less than half his career average shooting percentage (2.6 vs 5.9). But with just 15 points in 39 games, Daniel Winnik's value is limited to the deepest of formats.

Leafs' Winnik Putting Together Nice Scoring Run

News: Daniel Winnik contributed a helper in Saturday's 7-4 loss to the Flyers.
Analysis: Daniel Winnik has picked up assists in four of his last five games and is chugging along at a half-point-per-game pace on the season. He's only managed just one goal in 31 games, however, limiting some of the impact of that point production.

Leafs' Winnik: Two-Point Game

News: Daniel Winnik picked up two assists in Saturday's win over Detroit. The points were his first in eight games.
Analysis: The bottom-six forward has never scored more than 30 points in any season of his career, so don't expect big things in the Big Smoke. Nice night, but that's about all.

Leafs' Winnik Back In Thursday

News: Daniel Winnik (lower body) is on the ice for pregame warmups and is set to play Thursday against the Devils, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: Daniel Winnik was present for morning skate as well, verifying that he's feeling fine on the health front. He's set to skate on the third line with Peter Holland and David Clarkson.

Leafs' Winnik Expected To Play Thursday

News: Daniel Winnik (lower body) is expected to play Thursday against the Devils, Michael Traikos of the National Post reports.
Analysis: Coach Randy Carlyle said Daniel Winnik was still fighting soreness after he took a low-bridge hit Tuesday night. He should play Thursday presuming he feels a little bit better.

Leafs' Winnik Misses Practice With Injury

News: Daniel Winnik missed Wednesday's practice with a lower-body injury, David Alter of the MapleLeafs.com reports.
Analysis: Daniel Winnik was upended in Tuesday's game against the Stars, and while he didn't exit the contest, he was slow to get up from the hit and is evidently experiencing some soreness. The Leafs will wait and see if he can take part in Thursday's morning skate before determining his status for the game against the Devils.

Leafs' Winnik Set To Play Wednesday

News: Daniel Winnik (head) confirmed he would return to the lineup Wednesday against the Bruins, David Alter of MapleLeafs.com reports.
Analysis: With Daniel Winnik enduring no setbacks during Wednesday's morning skate, he'll return to the ice after missing only two games following a scary fall to the ice last week against Colorado. Prior to suffering the injury, Winnik had been thriving while being deployed in a top-six role of late. He's expected to return to second-line duty Wednesday, where he'll look to build on the seven points in 13 games he's compiled on the season.

Leafs' Winnik Skates Tuesday

News: Daniel Winnik (head) returned to practice Tuesday, Mark Masters of TSN reports.
Analysis: It was the first time Daniel Winnik had been on the ice since being stretchered away in a game last Thursday against Avalanche. The return to practice would seem to suggest that Winnik has been cleared of any concussion-like symptoms, likely putting him on track to play Wednesday against the Bruins if he's able to avoid any late setbacks.

Senators' Winnik (Head) Out Sunday

News: Daniel Winnik didn't travel with the team to Ottawa and will not play Sunday night, Jonas Siegel of TSN 1050 reports.
Analysis: Daniel Winnik is currently under the league's concussion protocol and wasn't cleared Saturday, also making him unlikely for Sunday's contest. The report confirms as much, leaving his next opportunity to return as Wednesday when the Leafs face the Bruins.

Leafs' Winnik Out Saturday, Under Protocol

News: Coach Randy Carlyle said that Daniel Winnik (head) remains under the league's concussion protocol and will not play Saturday against the Rangers, David Alter of MapleLeafs.com reports.
Analysis: Carlyle didn't explicitly state that Daniel Winnik had a concussion, but his lack of availability suggests that the forward might have incurred some symptoms of the head injury, which he sustained Thursday night. It will be tough to gauge when he'll be on the cusp of a return until he resumes practicing with the Maple Leafs, but it's likely that he'll miss at least Sunday's game against the Senators as well.

Leafs' Winnik Likely Out Saturday

News: Daniel Winnik (head) is not on the ice for Saturday's morning skate and seems unlikely to play against the Rangers, Jonas Siegel of TSN Radio 1050 reports.
Analysis: Daniel Winnik was deemed fine after he was stretchered off the ice Thursday night against the Avs following a violent collision, but it appears the Leafs are still monitoring his health. He'll probably need to take part in a practice or morning skate before the Leafs clear him for action.

Leafs' Winnik (Head/Neck) Reportedly Fine

News: Coach Randy Carlyle said Daniel Winnik (head/neck) is fine following Thursday's game in which he was stretchered off the ice, Jonas Siegel of TSN 1050 reports.
Analysis: Daniel Winnik was reportedly conscious and moving his fingers, and later was walking around and didn't need a trip to the hospital. The fact that coach Randy Carlyle labeled him as fine is encouraging, but his status still should be monitored over the next few days.

Leafs' Winnik (Head) Reportedly Walking Around

News: Daniel Winnik (head/neck) was reportedly walking around and will likely avoid a trip to the hospital, Mark Masters of TSN reports.
Analysis: Daniel Winnik was part of a violent collision that resulted in him landing on his head/neck area. He was taken off on a stretcher, but was seen moving his fingers as he left the ice. The news that he was walking around and likely won't require a trip to the hospital bodes well and could indicate the injury won't keep him out for a long period of time.

Leafs' Winnik Leaves Ice On Stretcher

News: Daniel Winnik landed on his head or neck and was taken off the ice on a stretcher, Jonas Siegel of TSN reports.
Analysis: Daniel Winnik's injury appears to be serious as he didn't show much movement leaving the ice, though he was conscious and moving his fingers. The injury could put his availability in jeopardy for an extended period of time, but the team will likely update his status in the next couple days.

Leafs' Winnik Tallies Three Points In Win

News: Daniel Winnik recorded his first goal of the season and added two assists in Friday's win over the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Daniel Winnik now has four points in his last two games, recording a plus-4 rating in that span. Skating on the third line and seeing no power-play time, Winnik won't produce big offensive numbers. The 29-year-old, however, should record around 30 points and provide some value to those in deeper leagues.

Leafs' Winnik To Play Saturday

News: Daniel Winnik (upper body) will play Saturday against the Red Wings, Terry Koshan of the Toronto Sun reports.
Analysis: Daniel Winnik was removed late in Friday's contest after blocking a shot but will be able to tough it out for Saturday's rematch with Detroit. He's compiled one point and four penalty minutes in five games this season, his first with the Leafs.

Toronto's Winnik Leaves With Upper-Body Injury

Leafs Sign Winnik To One-Year Deal

News: Daniel Winnik signed a one-year, $1.3 million deal with the Maple Leafs on Monday.
Analysis: The 29-year-old appeared in 76 games for the Ducks last season, notching career highs in assists (24) and points (30). He also added 23 penalty minutes to go with a plus-six rating. One of the better available role players, Daniel Winnik should step into a consistent role with Toronto next season, likely as a member of their third or fourth line.

Ducks Won't Offer Winnik New Deal

News: The Ducks will not offer a new contract to Daniel Winnik, who will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, the Orange County Register's Eric Stephens reports.
Analysis: Daniel Winnik saw time in 76 games this season, recording 30 total points (six goals, 24 assists) and 23 penalty minutes. The 29-year-old signed a two-year deal in 2012 worth $3.6 million, and he'll likely fetch considerably more on the open market this summer.
