Devils' Zajac Turns In Multi-Point Night

News: Travis Zajac potted a goal and added an assist in Monday's 4-2 loss to the Bruins.
Analysis: This was Travis Zajac's first multi-point game of the season, bringing his point total to just six in 15 games this season. He nearly broke the 50-point barrier last season (48) for the third time in his career, but any chance of returning to the form that saw him post 67 points in 2009-10 seems extremely unlikely.

Devils' Zajac Nets Goal In Victory

News: Travis Zajac tallied a goal in Tuesday's 2-1 victory over the Lightning.
Analysis: Travis Zajac's first point of the campaign came on a rebound shot in the first period, after goalie Evgeni Nabokov turned away his initial effort. Those attempts would go down as the only shots on the night for Zajac, who has been largely deferential to his mates in the Devils' first three games. He's attempted only three shots, despite averaging 17:54 of ice time, including 2:34 on the power play.

Devils' Zajac Returns To Practice

News: Travis Zajac (lower body) returned to practice Wednesday and said he's ready to go for Thursday's game against the Flyers, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: After experiencing some tightness a day earlier, Travis Zajac noted that he felt dramatically better at Wednesday's practice, which should allow him to avoid missing anytime. He'll reprise his role as the Devils' top center this season, slotting in between Jaromir Jagr and Mike Cammalleri.

Devils' Zajac Leaves With Lower Body Injury

News: Travis Zajac left Tuesday's practice with a lower body injury, The Record reports.
Analysis: It's not exactly clear what type of setback Travis Zajac is dealing with, but according to GM Lou Lamoriello, the injury is "nothing serious" and he believes Zajac "will be fine." Lamoriello's comments seem to indicate Zajac should be fine for Thursday's season opener, but expect his status to be updated as more news becomes available.

Devils' Zajac To Center Jagr, Cammalleri

News: Travis Zajac is slated to serve as the Devils' No. 1 center this season, with Michael Cammalleri and Jaromir Jagr flanking him on either side, NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Both Travis Zajac and Jagr showed excellent continuity in their first season together, but unreliable offense on the left side too often forced the Devils to rely on the defense to win games. While Cammalleri represents an upgrade over the options the Devils trotted out at left wing, his presence is unlikely to vault Zajac much higher than the 50-point level. Zajac is a useful two-way player for the Devils, but lacks the offensive creativity of most No. 1 centers, making him comparably weaker to his peers in most fantasy categories. Still, he'll probably average around 20 minutes of ice time and compile around 15 to 20 goals and 30 assists, giving him some value as a depth forward in certain leagues.

Disappointing Season For Devils' Zajac

News: Travis Zajac registered a goal and an assist in Sunday's season finale, a 3-2 win over Boston.
Analysis: Seven multi-point efforts in the final 26 games helped Travis Zajac recover from a disastrous -four points in 12 games- first month of the season. Still, with just 48 points (18 goals, 30 assists) in 80 games played, the talented forward has fallen off from his days of 25-goal campaigns.

Zajac Grabs Assist In Devils' Loss

News: Travis Zajac assisted one of the Devils' two goals in Friday's shootout loss to the Islanders, ending a two-games point drought.
Analysis: Travis Zajac had a big week to start off the month of April but he hasn't been the most consistent of offensive players the last several seasons. The 46 points he's put up this year are his highest since the 67 he grabbed several years back. He's worth a look as a spot start in daily leagues, but 45-50 points appears to be the ceiling for one of New Jersey's more reliable two-way forwards.

Devils' Zajac: Six Points In Four Games

News: Travis Zajac scored the game-winning goal Saturday against Carolina. He has six points, including four goals, in his last four games.
Analysis: He's had a great week and should be a solid play to season's end.

Devils' Zajac Notches Four Points

News: Travis Zajac scored a hat trick, including a power-play goal, and notched an assist against the Panthers on Monday. He was also a plus-3 and had six shots on net.
Analysis: Travis Zajac took advantage of going up against a team starting Dan Ellis to bump up his scoring totals to 16 goals and 43 points. He's in line to have the best season of his career outside of the stretch from 2008-2010 when he looked like his future was bright.

March Surge Continues For Devils' Zajac

News: Travis Zajac scored one of the Devils' goals and assisted on the other in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Bruins.
Analysis: He's got nine points in nine March games now, though his owners have had to deal with a minus-6 rating. Still, all in all, Travis Zajac has shown new life since the new year and seems to be getting better as he goes along. That's worthy of a note filed away for next year's drafts.

Devils' Zajac: Three-Point Night

News: Travis Zajac had a three-point night (one goal, two assists) in Saturday's win over Carolina.
Analysis: Is he starting to wake up? We dunno, but at least he has five points in his last five games. It's a far cry better than his season overall (34 points in 63 games). Roll the dice.

Devils' Zajac Notches Goal Tuesday

News: Travis Zajac supplied a goal in Tuesday's win over the Red Wings.
Analysis: Travis Zajac remains locked into a top-line role, but his 31 points in 61 games leave something to be desired for a player who averages more than 20 minutes a night. So long as he's not being counted on as a major point producer for your fantasy squad, Zajac should offer reasonable value as a depth forward.

Devils To Rely On Zajac

News: Travis Zajac had no points in three games prior to the Olympic break and has a modest nine goals and 29 points through 57 games. He's still being counted on to be one of the team's top offensive players.
Analysis: Travis Zajac could be a solid buy-low candidate in deeper leagues. It will benefit him much to stay on a line with Jaromir Jagr, as the pair of them have been productive at times when together. Zajac probably won't hit 20 goals this season, but he has a legitimate shot at cracking 40 points.

Zajac Busy In New Jersey Loss

News: Travis Zajac assisted on both New Jersey goals in Friday's 3-2 overtime loss to Nashville, his second-consecutive two-point game.
Analysis: Travis Zajac has six points in the last five games and he's a player the Devils desperately need to get going offensively considering the minutes plays. There's little elsewhere to go but up for Zajac, who makes a solid buy-low candidate at this point of the season. He's worth a waiver pickup should he be available.

Zajac Notches Two Points For Devils

News: Travis Zajac scored a power-play goal and added a power-play assist on the overtime winner scored by Patrik Elias in Thursday's victory over Dallas.
Analysis: After running cold all year long, Travis Zajac suddenly has six points in his last five games. He'd managed all of 21 points in 48 games before little stretch.

Devils' Zajac Snaps Out Of Slump

News: Travis Zajac tallied two assists in Tuesday's 7-1 romp over St. Louis, ending a four-game scoreless streak.
Analysis: While the helpers are well and good, Travis Zajac is still without a goal since Dec. 28, a span of 11 games.

Devils' Zajac Nets Winner

News: Travis Zajac scored the game-winning goal Saturday when Marek Zidlicky's slap shot deflected off his collarbone and past Evgeni Nabokov in a 2-1 win over the Islanders.
Analysis: At first, it looked like the puck deflected off his face, but he got his head turned just in time. He has seven goals and 11 assists in 38 games this season and is clearly struggling offensively without a top-notch sniper on his flank. He's looking more and more like a complementary player than a guy who can carry the mail. Can you really afford a center on a sub-40 point pace? You decide.

Zajac Active In New Jersey Loss

News: Travis Zajac assisted on one of New Jersey's two goals in Friday's loss to the Penguins, giving him a point in each of the last three games.
Analysis: Travis Zajac has been picking up his scoring pace the last three weeks and sits with 13 points through 31 contests. He's been seeing much time alongside Jaromir Jagr and is on the team's top power-play unit. He's probably available in most leagues and can be looked at in deeper leagues with multiple centers. He's not going to light up the scoreboard, but when he's going, he'll contribute a bit.

Zajac Notches Assist In Devils' Win

News: Travis Zajac assisted on one of New Jersey's five goals in Friday's win over Carolina, giving him a point in each of the last two games.
Analysis: Travis Zajac also has been a plus-5 in the last two games and is playing a solid two-way game, as the Devils are expecting him to. Zajac has 10 points on the season and should still see scoring chances both at even strength and on the power play. However, Zajac is unlikely to be a highly productive offensive player, and is a safe bet to settle in around 40 points.

Devils' Zajac Healthy

News: Travis Zajac (ankle) is expected to play Thursday against the Flyers, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Travis Zajac said he's good to go after participating in Wednesday's practice, and all indications are that he will be in the lineup to take on the Flyers on Thursday. Zajac has one goal and three assists in 12 games with the Devils this season.

Devils' Zajac Practices

News: Travis Zajac (ankle) practiced with the team Wednesday, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: It's a promising sign that Travis Zajac was able to return to the ice with his teammates, but Thursday's morning skate will probably provide a better idea of whether or not he'll be able to suit up against the Flyers that night.

Devils' Zajac Remains Day-to-Day

News: Travis Zajac remains day-to-day with an ankle injury, the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti reports.
Analysis: The injury prevented Elias from playing in either of the Devils' two weekend games, but he will avoid being placed on injured reserve for the time being. Travis Zajac will be afforded a few days to rest with the Devils off until Thursday, but it remains to be seen whether he'll return that night.

Devils' Zajac Sits With Ankle Injury

News: Travis Zajac will not play Saturday against the Flyers due to an ankle injury, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Travis Zajac rolled his ankle during practice Friday morning but indicated that it wasn't serious. However, he was not out for the team's optional skate Saturday and will not play Saturday. No word on whether he will miss the upcoming trip to Minnesota, so consider him day-to-day for now.

Devils' Zajac Will Play Saturday

News: Travis Zajac spoke about the right ankle injury he suffered in Friday's practice, saying he simply rolled his ankle and should be fine for Saturday's game against Philadelphia, The Record's Tom Gulitti reports.
Analysis: Travis Zajac said his foot simply got caught in a rut in the ice, causing him to fall. He called it "laughable," and he should be able to play against the Flyers without any limitations.

Devils' Zajac Injures Foot

News: Travis Zajac appeared to injure his right foot or ankle when he tripped and fell during Friday's practice, The Record reports.
Analysis: It was a bizarre injury - Travis Zajac appeared to be coasting along just fine before suddenly falling over. He was able to get up on his own, but he put very little weight on his right foot as he skated off the ice and went to the locker room. The Devils have not yet provided any information, but Zajac was not present for the team's second practice session of the day. New Jersey hosts the Flyers on Saturday night.
