Devils' Zajac Logs Two Assists

News: Travis Zajac picked up two assists in Saturday's win over the Coyotes.
Analysis: The points were just Travis Zajac's first in six games, giving him 22 points ( 10 goals) in 61 games on the season. While he's playing Michael Cammalleri on the second line, Zajac has been too inconsistent this season to be trusted in most fantasy formats. If you can deal with dry spouts, he's a decent option in very deep leagues.

Devils' Zajac Adds Empty-Netter In Win

News: Travis Zajac scored an empty-net goal in Saturday's 2-0 win over the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: The 29-year-old has goals in consecutive games to give him a total of 10 on the season. Still, Travis Zajac's 20 points and minus-4 rating over 55 games aren't particularly helpful to fantasy owners, making him only a consideration in very deep leagues.

Devils' Zajac Captures Assist In Loss

News: Travis Zajac assisted on the Devils' lone goal in Monday's loss to the Oilers.
Analysis: Coming off last season's modest 48-point campaign, expectations weren't especially high for the 29-year-old Travis Zajac, but he's slipped even further than anticipated. He's compiled just eight goals and 10 assists over 46 games while attempting a mere 1.39 shots per contest.

Devils' Zajac (Illness) Taking Warmups

News: Dajac (illness) is skating on the Devils' second line during warmups, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Dajac had been listed as a game-time decision for Wednesday's matchup against the Leafs, and at the moment, he seems to be healthy enough to play. If the projected lines hold up, he'll resume his regular spot alongside Patrick Elias and Martin Havlat.

New Jersey's Zajac A Game-Time Decision

News: Travis Zajac (illness) is a game-time decision for Wednesday's game against the Leafs, Rich Chere of the Star Ledger reports. However, he said he feels "way better" than he did Tuesday and expects to play.
Analysis: After missing practice Tuesday, Travis Zajac was on the ice Wednesday morning, but his status for the team's evening contest against Toronto has yet to be solidified at this stage.

New Jersey's Zajac Skates Wednesday

News: Travis Zajac (illness) was among the New Jersey players who skated Wednesday morning, Tom Gulitti of the Record reports.
Analysis: Travis Zajac did not practice Tuesday, but his presence on the ice Wednesday morning bodes well for his chances of suiting up for the team's evening tilt against the Maple Leafs.

New Jersey's Zajac Misses Practice

News: Travis Zajac (illness) did not practice Tuesday, Rich Chere of the Star Ledger reports.
Analysis: As a result, we'll monitor Travis Zajac's status as Wednesday's game against the Leafs approaches. Zajac, who has notched six points over his last seven games, checks in with 16 points in 39 games.

Devils' Zajac Pots Shortie

News: Travis Zajac scored a shorthanded goal and handed out an empty-net assist Tuesday against the Sabres.
Analysis: For what it's worth, he has five points in the last five games. It's not exactly a huge explosion, but hey, he only had eight points in the 29 games before that.

Zajac Has Two Points In Devils Win

News: Travis Zajac had a goal and assist in the Devils 3-1 victory over Pittsburgh on Monday.
Analysis: The points were just his ninth and tenth of the season as Travis Zajac is having a pretty bad season. Zajac has scored 20+ goals twice in his career but this season doesn't seem likely to be a third time.

Devils' Zajac Will Play Monday

News: Travis Zajac (lower body) will play in Monday's game against the Islanders, Rich Chere of the Star Ledger reports.
Analysis: Travis Zajac hasn't played since Nov. 28, and had just four goals and four assists in 23 games before getting hurt. He'll probably jump back into a top-six role for Monday's game.

Devils' Zajac Participating In Morning Skate

News: Travis Zajac (lower body) will take part in the team's morning skate Monday, Tom Gulitti of the Record reports.
Analysis: It looks like the center has a chance to play Monday against the Islanders, but he'll likely end up being a game time decision. Keep an eye out for another update prior to puck drop.

Devils' Zajac Recovering From Mumps

News: General manager Lou Lamoriello said Travis Zajac (lower body) has recently gotten over a case of the mumps, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Travis Zajac became ill shortly after attaining the lower-body injury Nov. 28, but the virus ran its course in just under a week. The center has been skating the last two days with no further symptoms recurring, so his greater concern appears to be his initial injury at this point. He should be cleared to return once he's able to get in a practice or two.

Devils Place Zajac (Lower Body) On Injured Reserve

News: Travis Zajac (lower body) was placed on injured reserve Monday, Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: With news of Travis Zajac going on IR, it's no surprise that he won't travel with the team to Pittsburgh or Toronto. The move will be retroactive to Nov. 28, meaning he could return for Saturday's game against the Capitals if healthy.

Devils' Zajac Out Saturday

News: Travis Zajac (lower body) will not play Saturday against the Islanders, The Record reports.
Analysis: Travis Zajac will sit out due to the injury he suffered in Friday's game. The Devils don't believe he is dealing with a serious setback, and he could be available for the team's next game Tuesday. Both Zajac and Adam Henrique (upper body) will sit out Saturday, so Damien Brunner and Jordin Tootoo will suit up against the Islanders.

Devils' Zajac Suffers Lower Body Injury Friday

News: Travis Zajac suffered a lower body injury in Friday's loss to the Red Wings.
Analysis: Head coach Pete DeBoer was uncertain about Travis Zajac's status for the Devils' next game Saturday against the Islanders. His participation, or lack thereof, in the Devils' morning skate should provide a hint.

Devils' Zajac Turns In Multi-Point Night

News: Travis Zajac potted a goal and added an assist in Monday's 4-2 loss to the Bruins.
Analysis: This was Travis Zajac's first multi-point game of the season, bringing his point total to just six in 15 games this season. He nearly broke the 50-point barrier last season (48) for the third time in his career, but any chance of returning to the form that saw him post 67 points in 2009-10 seems extremely unlikely.

Devils' Zajac Nets Goal In Victory

News: Travis Zajac tallied a goal in Tuesday's 2-1 victory over the Lightning.
Analysis: Travis Zajac's first point of the campaign came on a rebound shot in the first period, after goalie Evgeni Nabokov turned away his initial effort. Those attempts would go down as the only shots on the night for Zajac, who has been largely deferential to his mates in the Devils' first three games. He's attempted only three shots, despite averaging 17:54 of ice time, including 2:34 on the power play.

Devils' Zajac Returns To Practice

News: Travis Zajac (lower body) returned to practice Wednesday and said he's ready to go for Thursday's game against the Flyers, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: After experiencing some tightness a day earlier, Travis Zajac noted that he felt dramatically better at Wednesday's practice, which should allow him to avoid missing anytime. He'll reprise his role as the Devils' top center this season, slotting in between Jaromir Jagr and Mike Cammalleri.

Devils' Zajac Leaves With Lower Body Injury

News: Travis Zajac left Tuesday's practice with a lower body injury, The Record reports.
Analysis: It's not exactly clear what type of setback Travis Zajac is dealing with, but according to GM Lou Lamoriello, the injury is "nothing serious" and he believes Zajac "will be fine." Lamoriello's comments seem to indicate Zajac should be fine for Thursday's season opener, but expect his status to be updated as more news becomes available.

Devils' Zajac To Center Jagr, Cammalleri

News: Travis Zajac is slated to serve as the Devils' No. 1 center this season, with Michael Cammalleri and Jaromir Jagr flanking him on either side, NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Both Travis Zajac and Jagr showed excellent continuity in their first season together, but unreliable offense on the left side too often forced the Devils to rely on the defense to win games. While Cammalleri represents an upgrade over the options the Devils trotted out at left wing, his presence is unlikely to vault Zajac much higher than the 50-point level. Zajac is a useful two-way player for the Devils, but lacks the offensive creativity of most No. 1 centers, making him comparably weaker to his peers in most fantasy categories. Still, he'll probably average around 20 minutes of ice time and compile around 15 to 20 goals and 30 assists, giving him some value as a depth forward in certain leagues.

Disappointing Season For Devils' Zajac

News: Travis Zajac registered a goal and an assist in Sunday's season finale, a 3-2 win over Boston.
Analysis: Seven multi-point efforts in the final 26 games helped Travis Zajac recover from a disastrous -four points in 12 games- first month of the season. Still, with just 48 points (18 goals, 30 assists) in 80 games played, the talented forward has fallen off from his days of 25-goal campaigns.

Zajac Grabs Assist In Devils' Loss

News: Travis Zajac assisted one of the Devils' two goals in Friday's shootout loss to the Islanders, ending a two-games point drought.
Analysis: Travis Zajac had a big week to start off the month of April but he hasn't been the most consistent of offensive players the last several seasons. The 46 points he's put up this year are his highest since the 67 he grabbed several years back. He's worth a look as a spot start in daily leagues, but 45-50 points appears to be the ceiling for one of New Jersey's more reliable two-way forwards.

Devils' Zajac: Six Points In Four Games

News: Travis Zajac scored the game-winning goal Saturday against Carolina. He has six points, including four goals, in his last four games.
Analysis: He's had a great week and should be a solid play to season's end.

Devils' Zajac Notches Four Points

News: Travis Zajac scored a hat trick, including a power-play goal, and notched an assist against the Panthers on Monday. He was also a plus-3 and had six shots on net.
Analysis: Travis Zajac took advantage of going up against a team starting Dan Ellis to bump up his scoring totals to 16 goals and 43 points. He's in line to have the best season of his career outside of the stretch from 2008-2010 when he looked like his future was bright.

March Surge Continues For Devils' Zajac

News: Travis Zajac scored one of the Devils' goals and assisted on the other in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Bruins.
Analysis: He's got nine points in nine March games now, though his owners have had to deal with a minus-6 rating. Still, all in all, Travis Zajac has shown new life since the new year and seems to be getting better as he goes along. That's worthy of a note filed away for next year's drafts.
