McIver Waived by the Bruins

News: McIver was waived by the Bruins on Sunday, the Boston Globe reports.
Analysis: If no one picks him up off waivers, McIver will be sent down to Providence of the AHL. He provides depth on the blue line, but isn't much of a threat to rack up points if he gets called up from the minors.

Canucks re-sign enforcer McIver

News: The Canucks have re-signed defenseman Nathan McIver. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Analysis: The 24-year-old McIver split the 2008-09 season between the Anaheim and Vancouver organizations. He appeared in 18 games with the Ducks, but spent most of the season in the minors. McIver is merely an enforcer and nothing more than a flier in Fantasy leagues that reward heavily for PIM when active.

McIver brings toughness to Canucks

News: The Sports Xchange reports Canucks D Shane O'Brien's apology after lashing out at management for giving him the impression he needed to fight more may have kept him in the organization, but it hasn't helped him get back on the ice. O'Brien was a healthy scratch for a third-straight game -- twice since he questioned General Manager Mike Gillis publicly -- Saturday against Chicago, and in the meantime the Canucks made a trade to re-acquire a similarly tough depth defenseman in Nathan McIver, sending seldom-used grinding RW Mike Brown to Anaheim in exchange for the gritty defender they lost on waivers back in October. McIver has been assigned to Manitoba in the AHL, but his acquisition was likely not lost on O'Brien, who was acquired from Tampa Bay shortly after McIver was lost in early October to do a lot of the same things. "We got him for depth," coach Alain Vigneault said. "In our mind, Nathan McIver is a seventh, eighth, ninth defenseman in an organization depending how he is playing. I think on your depth chart you need to have a tough defenseman that you can call up and you need to have a puck-moving defenseman that you can call up, depending on who gets hurt and who can't play. For me, he's the toughness part."
Analysis: McIver was with the Canucks last season, so they are well aware of what he brings to the table. Still, he can't help Fantasy owners much in the minors. McIver is nothing more than a flier in Fantasy leagues that reward heavily for PIM when active.

News: According to The Canadian Press, the Canucks shipped forward Mike Brown to the Canucks on Wednesdat in exchange for D Nathan McIver.
Analysis: McIver played 18 games for Anaheim this season and had only one assist. Don't expect much more out of him in Vancouver so keep him on waivers.

McIver has assist in Ducks debut

News: D Nathan McIver made his Ducks regular-season debut Tuesday against the Kings and picked up an assist. An Oct. 4 waiver acquisition from Vancouver, McIver did not join the Ducks until Saturday because he was in British Columbia awaiting a United States work visa.
Analysis: McIver spent only 10 minutes on the ice Tuesday and his time likely won't increase much since he is nothing more than a lower-pairing defenseman. McIver is not known for being an offensive savvy player, but he is a solid defender and tough man that will stick up for his teammates. He is nothing more than a low-end flier in leagues that reward heavily for PIM while in the pros.

News: The Sports Xchange reports the Ducks have a full complement of seven defensemen on their roster after D Nathan McIver joined the team for Saturday's practice. Analysis: McIver, 23, played in 17 games and recorded 52 penalty minutes with the Canucks during the 2007-08 season. He also spent time with the Manitoba Moose (AHL), registering six points (three goals) and 108 penalty minutes in 43 games. He is nothing more than a low-end flier in leagues that reward heavily for PIM while in the pros.

McIver has played in three games for the Canucks in 2007-08.
Analysis: McIver, made his NHL debut during the 2006-07 season, playing one game with the Canucks. McIver was originally drafted by Vancouver 254th overall in the 2003 NHL Draft. He doesn't figure to have any Fantasy value even while in the lineup.

News: One day after learning that he had made the Vancouver Canucks, Nathan McIver was sent down to Manitoba of the AHL on Wednesday.

McIver's spot just temporary

News: Nathan McIver has made the Vancouver Canucks roster to open the regular season on Oct. 5 against the Sharks and he might play if Alexander Edler (hip flexor) is unable to go.
Analysis: McIver is only on the roster while Sami Salo (fractured left wrist) is on injured reserve. Once the veteran returns, McIver is headed back to Manitoba. Avoid McIver in all Fantasy leagues.

McIver called up Wednesday

News: Nathan McIver, 21, was recalled for Manitoba of the American Hockey League and will join Patrick Coloumbe, another 21-year-old who was called up Wednesday, in playing his first NHL game. Alexander Edler, 20, will be playing his third. Sami Salo (knee sprain) and Willie Mitchell (post-concussion symptoms) are sidelined, leaving Vancouver with a young, inexperienced defense for its game Thursday night against Anaheim.
Analysis: Edler had a good final season in junior hockey last year and showed glimpses of why the Canucks drafted him with the 91st pick in 2004. However, there is no way to guage on how well that success will translate over to the NHL. Edler is worth keeping an eye on, but don't add him to your Fantasy roster just yet. Neither McIver or Coloumbe are worth picking up however.

News: The Vancouver Canucks assigned F Tyler Bouck, F Mike Brown, D Alexander Edler, F Lee Goren, G Drew MacIntyre, D Nathan McIver, F Brandon Reid, F Jesse Schultz and D Yannick Tremblay to Manitoba of the AHL.
