Avs' McLeod Returning For Playoffs

News: Cody McLeod (ankle) will return for game one of the playoffs Thursday, the Colorado Avalanche report.
Analysis: Cody McLeod -- who missed the final six games of the regular season after crashing into the boards on March 4th and injuring his left ankle -- will provide some much needed forward depth for the Avs in their opening-round series against the Wild. Offensive blueliner Tyson Barrie (upper-body) will also rejoin the lineup in game one Thursday.

Avs' McLeod Likely Out For Regular Season

News: Cody McLeod (ankle) is likely out for the rest of the regular season, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Cody McLeod was not able to participate in Tuesday's morning skate, an indication he hasn't made much progress from the ankle injury he sustained last week. He's not much of a fantasy consideration outside of leagues that count hits and penalty minutes.

Avs' McLeod Out Saturday

News: Cody McLeod (ankle) is out for Saturday's game against the Blues, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Cody McLeod isn't thought to be dealing with a serious injury, but he'll miss at least the one game, after hurting his ankle during Thursday's contest.

Avs' McLeod Suffers Ankle Injury

News: Avalanche coach Patrick Roy said after Thursday's game that Cody McLeod is dealing with an ankle injury and may only be day-to-day, reports the Denver Post's Adrian Dater.
Analysis: Roy apparently couldn't commit to the day-to-day status, but he did specify that the injury is to Cody McLeod's left ankle. Already without Matt Duchene (knee) and P.A. Parenteau (knee), the Avs can ill afford to lose another forward, even one like McLeod, who has just 13 points in 70 games. If McLeod isn't ready for Saturday's game against the Blues, Colorado will likely need to recall another forward.

Avs' McLeod Injured Thursday

News: Cody McLeod left Thursday's game with an apparent left leg injury, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.
Analysis: Cody McLeod reportedly crashed into the boards and wasn't able to skate on his left leg afterward. He was removed from the game and seems unlikely to return.

Avs' McLeod Tallies Rare Goal

News: Cody McLeod scored a game-tying goal in Wednesday's loss to the Jets.
Analysis: His marker came midway through the third period, sending the game to overtime and allowing the Avalanche to at least salvage a point for their efforts. Cody McLeod typically offers most of his fantasy value in the form of hits and penalty minutes, as Wednesday's goal was just his third of the season.

Avs' McLeod Racking Up PIM, Not Points

News: Cody McLeod has just nine points (two goals, seven assists) in 49 games so far this season; however, he currently leads the Avs in PIM with 97, good for 11th overall in the NHL.
Analysis: Cody McLeod will never be known as a scorer -- his career-best 20 points came five seasons ago -- but he's a decent source of fantasy output for secondary stats like PIM and hits. Deploy accordingly.

No Suspension For Avs' McLeod

News: Cody McLeod will not receive a suspension for his illegal hit on the Wild's Jonas Brodin on Friday, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Director of Player Safety Brendan Shanahan decided that Cody McLeod's immediate ejection from Friday's game was punishment enough for his infraction, so he'll avoid another ban on his record for now. He was previously hit with a five-game suspension earlier this season for a vicious hit on Detroit's Niklas Kronwall.

Avs' McLeod Could Be Facing Another Ban

News: Cody McLeod could be on track to receive another suspension following his illegal hit on the Wild's Jonas Brodin on Friday, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Cody McLeod was ejected for the game and was handed a game misconduct for riding Brodin into the boards. If McLeod is indeed suspended for the hit, the league office figures to pass down word in advance of Saturday's rematch to curb any sort of retaliatory action by the Wild.

Avs' McLeod Completes Suspension

News: Cody McLeod will be available for Saturday's game against the Canadiens after completing his five-game suspension Friday.
Analysis: Cody McLeod is expected to suit up Saturday, filling in for the injured Jamie McGinn on the fourth line. As the suspension would have suggested, most of McLeod's value lies in his physicality with the opposition rather than any sort of scoring acumen. He has already racked up 27 penalty minutes in seven contests.

Avs' McLeod Suspended For Five Games

News: Cody McLeod has been suspended for five games for his hit on Detroit's Niklas Kronwall, the Canadian Press's Stephen Whyno reports.
Analysis: Marc-Andre Cliche will fill in while Cody McLeod is unavailable. With 27 PIM and one point through seven games, McLeod is more or less having his typical season.

Avs' McLeod Suspended At Least Two Games

News: Cody McLeod will be suspended for at least two games by the NHL and has a hearing scheduled Monday, the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Cody McLeod will miss Saturday's and Monday's games while a possible suspension is reviewed as a result of a hit on Niklas Kronwell on Thursday. While McLeod is out, Marc-Andre Cliche will play in his spot in the lineup.

Avs' McLeod Likely Headed For Suspension

News: Cody McLeod received a boarding major and a game misconduct Thursday for delivering a head shot to the Wings' Niklas Kronwall.
Analysis: The hit will likely earn Cody McLeod a date with Brendan Shanahan and a suspension, as Kronwwall had to be removed from the ice on a stretcher. The incident happened in McLeod's very first shift Thursday, resulting in him skating just 34 seconds in the game. His fantasy owners will have to look elsewhere for PIMs in the short term.

Avs' McLeod Stays Hot, Scores Again

News: Cody McLeod scored his eighth goal of the year Tuesday, the lone goal by Colorado against Blues goalie Brian Elliott.
Analysis: That makes it five goals in the last five games for Cody McLeod, who before this little hot stretch had gone nearly a month and a half without a marker. Don't put much weight on this out-of-nowhere scoring outburst; though McLeod has seen good ice time lately, his main fantasy value comes from dropping the gloves and racking up penalty minutes.

Avs' McLeod On Four-Game Tear

News: Cody McLeod has scored four goals in his last four games.
Analysis: Cody McLeod only has seven goals on the year, but has tallied four in his past four games. He has provided a last-minute burst of offense as the season comes to an end. McLeod also has 79 PIMs this season.

Avalanche's McLeod Scores Twice

News: Cody McLeod netted two goals and was a plus-2 against the Blue Jackets on Monday.
Analysis: Cody McLeod has scored three goals in his last two games, and he is a plus-4 in those contests, but he only has 10 points in 42 games and has no history of success in the NHL.

Avs' McLeod Tagged For 14 Penalty Minutes

News: Cody McLeod was nabbed for tripping, roughing, and misconduct in Saturday's loss at Dallas. The 14 PIMs bring his season total to a team-leading 67 in 30 games. He also delivered five hits on the night.
Analysis: While he offers a tiny bit of offense (3-3-6), there's only one reason to have this enforcer on your fantasy roster.

Avs' McLeod Good To Go

News: Cody McLeod, who left Monday's game after taking a puck to the face, saw 10:28 worth of ice time Wednesday against the Stars.
Analysis: In the process, Cody McLeod recorded two penalty minutes and three hits, upping his totals in those categories to 53 and 48 respectively, over 29 games.

Avs' McLeod Leaves Game In Third

News: Cody McLeod left Monday's game after taking a puck to the face in the third period of Monday's 5-2 loss against the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Cody McLeod needed help to be assisted off the ice after he was struck in the face with a puck. Considering McLeod is one of the Avs' tough guys, this injury may be more significant than it first appeared. There was no official update on his injury after the game, so for now we'll consider him day-to-day.

Avs' McLeod Will Play Thursday

News: Cody McLeod (undisclosed) will play Thursday against the Wild, Adrian Dater of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: The gritty winger sat out of practice Tuesday after being injured in the Avs' loss to the Coyotes on Monday, but will be in the lineup Thursday night. Cody McLeod only has two points this season, but has added 37 PIM in just 11 games.

Avs' McLeod Did Not Practice Tuesday

News: Cody McLeod (undisclosed) did not practice Tuesday, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post reports.
Analysis: Cody McLeod left Monday's game with an unknown injury, but it seems to be significant enough as it held him out of practice Tuesday. There will be no official announcement on McLeod's status until the team reconvenes Wednesday.

Avs' McLeod Adds Goal To Fighting Major

News: Cody McLeod started off the new campaign with a fighting major in his first shift. He scored late in Colorado's 4-2 loss at Minnesota.
Analysis: Expect lots more penalties. Don't expect lots more tallies.

Avs Extend McLeod To Three-Year Deal

News: Cody McLeod agreed to a three-year extension worth $3.5 million with the Avalanche on Monday, TSN's Darren Dreger reports.
Analysis: Though not a prolific scorer, Cody McLeod finished fifth in the league in penalty minutes with 164. He will likely reprise his enforcer role next season with the Avs.

Avs' Enforcer McLeod Providing More Than Muscle

News: Cody McLeod scored his sixth goal of the season - his third point in the last three games - during Saturday's 3-2 shootout win over Edmonton.
Analysis: Avs coach Joe Sacco sang Cody McLeod's praises following the win. "It's good to see Cody get rewarded lately," Sacco said. "He's been popping in some goals here and there. A guy like Cody does a lot of dirty work, things that go unnoticed — but not by his teammates and coaching staff." With nine points in 63 games, McLeod is unlikely to reach the career high 18 points he scored two seasons ago. However, he does currently sit fourth in the league in penalty minutes with 150, so he's still an excellent source of PIMs for those leagues that count that statistic.

Avs' McLeod Pots Rare Goal Monday

News: Cody McLeod scored his fourth goal of the season Monday against Anaheim.
Analysis: Oddly enough, it was his fourth straight game without taking a penalty, quite the role reversal for a guy who is fourth in the league in PIM with 136. Bottom line, we don't think this is the start of a new trend for the Avs' enforcer - he should return to his truculent ways soon enough.
