Rangers' Girardi to Dwell?

News: Dan Girardi logged two penalty minutes and seven hits in Wednesday's Game 1 loss to the Kings.
Analysis: While he had a very physical night, Dan Girardi and just about anyone who watched will mostly remember the veteran's defensive-end turnover which led to a Justin Williams overtime game-winning goal. Don't fret fantasy owners, he's never been one to dwell and should bounce back nicely.

Rangers' Girardi Having Fairly Productive Playoffs

News: Dan Girardi (minus-1) has a goal and six assists in 20 games this post season.
Analysis: After registering a plus-6 with 24 points (five goals) in 81 regular season games, Dan Girardi's point-per-game pace has certainly picked up in the playoffs. Though his plus/minus rating is not what the team is used to, he's certainly held his own as a top-four during the Rangers' post season run. Girardi, who will play in his 85th postseason in game one against Los Angeles, tying him with Don Maloney for second all-time in franchise history.

Rangers' Girardi Adds Two Points

News: Dan Girardi scored a goal and added an assist in Tuesday's Game 3 win over the Flyers.
Analysis: Both points were pivotal -- the assist on Martin St. Louis's goal that gave the Rangers a 2-0 cushion, and the score that put the Blueshirts up 3-1. They were his first points of these playoffs -- and the first goal he's ever scored against the Flyers.

Rangers' Girardi Has Unlikely Rating In Loss

News: Dan Girardi registered a minus-2 rating in Sunday's Game 2 loss to Philadelphia.
Analysis: Since posting an ugly minus-7 rating in the first two weeks of the campaign, it's only Dan Girardi's fourth game with a rating worst than minus-1 this season. These games are clearly uncharacteristic of the dependable blue liner and owners can relax knowing Girardi has 23 assists and a plus-10 rating through 45 career games played against Philadelphia.

Rangers' Girardi Out Saturday

News: Dan Girardi will not suit up for Saturday's game against the Canadiens.
Analysis: Dan Girardi is healthy but will likely take a seat for a rest before the Rangers' playoff run. He should be in the lineup for the Rangers' first playoff game.

Rangers' Girardi Nabs Assist In Win

News: Dan Girardi collected an assist in Tuesday's 4-1 win over Carolina.
Analysis: That's two points (both assists) in his last three games. We're not saying it will last, but the regular season is nearing completion and anything goes at this time of the year, especially with Ryan McDonagh missing from the lineup. Dan Girardi is a plus-5 with five goals and 19 assists through 80 games played.

Rangers' Girardi Contributes Rare Offense

News: Dan Girardi scored the game-tying goal in the third period Monday against the Coyotes, then assisted on Ryan McDonagh's game-winner in overtime.
Analysis: Dan Girardi's assist was actually a shot that rebounded off Phoenix netminder Thomas Greiss and right to McDonagh's stick for a wide-open goal. The goal was his first since Feb. 7, so even though Girardi can let 'em rip at times, he's not one to be counted on for much offense. Of course, if your league counts blocks and hits, any points you get from Girardi are just gravy.

Rangers Sign Girardi To Extension

News: Dan Girardi signed a six-year, $33 million extension with the Rangers on Friday, TSN's Darren Dreger reports.
Analysis: Dan Girardi was a candidate to be traded before the NHL trade deadline based on his impending free agent status. The organization instead opted to make sure Girardi stayed on defense for the only team of his NHL career.

Rangers To Trade Girardi?

News: A pending unrestricted free-agent at season's end, Dan Girardi could be moved before the March 5 trade deadline, reports Andrew Gross of The Bergen Record.
Analysis: With the NHL roster freeze coming to an end on Sunday at midnight, it's more likely to see veteran forward Ryan Callahan traded. However, the team's organizational depth on the blue line could allow president and general manager Glen Sather to deal Dan Girardi,a highly regarded stay-at-home defenseman with limited offensive upside who is capable of logging top-four minutes.

Girardi Sparks Rangers

News: Dan Girardi grabbed a goal and an assist in Friday's 4-3 shootout win over the Penguins; both points came on the power play.
Analysis: Dan Girardi might not hit the 31 points he registered in 2010-11, but he's picked up his scoring of late. The power-play points were his first of the season. He's a steady option in leagues that reward secondary statistics such as hits and blocked shots.

Rangers' Girardi Tallies Two Assists

News: Dan Girardi had two helpers and was a plus-3 against the Capitals on Sunday.
Analysis: Dan Girardi is known for his defensive acumen, but he only has three goals and 14 points in 51 games. He is also only a plus-2, so he's not helping much there either.

Girardi Scores In Rangers' Win

News: Dan Girardi scored the tying goal late in the third period of Tuesday's 2-1 shootout win over Florida, giving him two points in the last three games.
Analysis: Dan Girardi certainly has seen a rough go of it this season in terms of offensive production, but he has never been a huge scorer in his career. He shoots the puck about once a game and has seen little power-play time the last few weeks. He's a solid option in leagues which reward secondary statistics such as hits and blocked shots, but relying on him strictly for goals and assists may prove frustrating.

Dan Girardi

Rangers' Girardi To Continue Descent?

News: Dan Girardi has not found the scoring sheet in four games.
Analysis: The Rangers most reliable defenseman has not been their most consistent point-getter since Ryan McDonagh broke out of his shell, but the two goals and six assists to along with a minus-5 rating in 38 games played this season doesn't exactly fulfill your draft expectations. While his career numbers in January suggest an improvement in plus-minus rating, the 29-year-old is arguably the most offensively challenged in the first two months of the calendar year. Of course, Dan Girardi logs the most ice time with the aforementioned McDonagh so you can expect him to grab you points, but temper your expectations.

Rangers' Girardi Shaking The Rust?

News: Dan Girardi had two shots on goal and an assist in Saturday's 2-0 win over the Predators.
Analysis: It's been a rough offensive campaign for the Rangers roster thus far and you don't have to look any further than Dan Girardi for an example of it. Including a pro-rated total of his lockout shortened season, Girardi has averaged nearly 30 points a season for several consecutive campaigns, so as the Rangers' offense goes, so will Girardi.

Rangers' Girardi Pointless Through Five Games

News: Dan Girardi was a minus-2 in a 5-3 loss to St. Louis on Saturday.
Analysis: The expectation coming into the season was Dan Girardi would likely improve to a 30-point campaign. While that's still a possiblity, it's been a tough start for just about every defenseman on the Rangers blue line. Through five games the 29-year-old Ontario native has zero points and is a minus-7 with six shots on goal and two penalty minutes.

Rangers' Girardi Nets Goal In Loss

News: Dan Girardi scored a goal in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to Edmonton
Analysis: Dan Girardi's first point of the preseason in two games came on a power-play goal. He also collected three hits and one blocked shot. As the roster's continue to get slimmed down, you can expect the eight-year veteran to start chipping in more.

Girardi's PPG Not Enough To Carry Rangers

News: Dan Girardi scored the Rangers' final goal of the season Saturday, cashing in on a first-period power play against Boston. But the New York offense was silent after that, and the Bruins came back for a series-clinching 3-1 win.
Analysis: He's not likely to explode into an offensive force at this point in his career, but he is likely to see plenty of time on the blue line when the Rangers take the ice again in the fall. He's signed through the end of the 2013-14 season.

Rangers' Girardi Finds Twine In Win

News: Dan Girardi was a plus-1 with a goal and five blocked shots in Wednesday's 4-3 win over Washington.
Analysis: It's Dan Girardi's first goal/point in almost a month to the day. While the offensive production has certainly tapered off in the lock out shortened season, his blocked shots and total ice time has not. Overall, Girardi is a plus-3 with 10 hits and 19 blocked shots through four playoff games this season.

Rangers' Girardi Doing The Little Things

News: Dan Girardi was a plus-1 with two hits and four blocked shots in a 4-1 win over New Jersey on Sunday.
Analysis: While Dan Girardi's efforts rarely produce points, if your league counts blocked shots and minutes logged, Girardi is your man. Now third in the league for blocked shots, he's likely to once again land among the league's elite for the most under appreciated statistic.

Rangers' Girardi Nets Winner

News: Dan Girardi scored the game-winner in overtime Saturday in a 1-0 victory over the Islanders.
Analysis: It's just his second goal of the season and his first point in five games. He's better known for his shot-blocking and hitting, so this marker is a bonus.

Girardi Contributes In Rangers' Win

News: Dan Girardi was plus-1 with an assist and two hits in New York's 6-1 win over Pittsburgh on Wednesday night.
Analysis: He spent most of his 24-plus minutes of ice time teamed with Michael Del Zotto. It's the veteran defenseman's first point in three games. The Rangers are 8-2-1 when Dan Girardi gets on the scoresheet.

Rangers' Girardi Has Assist In Win

News: Dan Girardi had an assist in a 4-2 win over Philadelphia on Tuesday night.
Analysis: Dan Girardi, who had 28 shifts for 21-plus minutes of total ice time, also had a hit and a shot on goal. He now has three assists in his last four games, as he's added some modest offense to his typically stout defense.
