Rangers' Girardi (Ankle) Undergoes Surgery

News: Dan Girardi has undergone a bursa excision surgery on his ankle and should be recovered for training camp.
Analysis: This probably isn't any reason to worry about Dan Girardi's ankle in the 2015-16 season. The injury wasn't considered serious and surgery will likely decrease further risk.

Rangers' Girardi Played With MCL Sprain

News: Dan Girardi played the final three games of the Eastern Conference Finals with a Grade 1 MCL sprain.
Analysis: The Rangers' defensive corps was incredibly banged up by the end of their playoff run, with Ryan McDonagh, Marc Staal, and Keith Yandle all playing through injury at some point during the postseason. Dan Girardi's ailment, however, isn't considered to be too serious, and he should be ready for the Rangers' training camp in September.

Rangers' Girardi Picks Up Series-Winning Helper

News: Dan Girardi was credited with an assist on Derek Stepan's overtime game-winner in Wednesday's series-clinching Game 7 victory over the Capitals.
Analysis: Stepan collected the rebound on Dan Girardi's point shot and put the puck past Caps goalie Braden Holtby to send the Rangers to their second consecutive Eastern Conference Finals. It goes down as the only point of the series for Girardi, who offset the lack of offensive activity by leading the Rangers in blocked shots (25) during the seven-game set.

Rangers' Girardi Produces In Win

News: Dan Girardi assisted on both of the team's goals and skated a game-high 26:06 in Monday's Game 4 win over the Penguins.
Analysis: Dan Girardi took a puck to the face toward the end of Game 1 but has shown no ill effects since then as he skated for over 20 minutes in Game 2 and blew past his season average of 22:42 worth of ice time in Monday's win. The blueliner generally isn't much of a factor on the scoresheet, but he's now tallied three points in the playoffs to go along with a pair of points down the stretch run of the regulation season.

Rangers' Girardi Plays In Saturday's Loss

News: Dan Girardi (face) skated 20:20 in Saturday's Game 2 loss to the Penguins, finishing the night with five hits and three blocked shots.
Analysis: Dan Girardi was forced to leave Thursday's Game 1 win after taking a puck to the face, but he never seemed at much risk of missing Game 2 after practicing Friday. Though he might still be experiencing some residual pain, Girardi won't be at risk of missing any further first-round action.

Rangers' Girardi (Face) Skating Friday

News: Dan Girardi (face) took part in practice Friday, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Dan Girardi took a puck to the jaw Thursday and departed the game. However, he appears to have avoided a major injury, as he was on the ice Friday without any extra protection and said he's only dealing with some minor swelling. Expect him to play in Game 2 on Saturday as the Rangers look to go up 2-0 on Pittsburgh.

Rangers' Girardi Departs Game 1 Early

News: Dan Girardi took a puck to the face and departed Thursday's Game 1 against Pittsburgh in the third period.
Analysis: It looked like the puck got Dan Girardi in the jaw, and he may have taken a high stick as well. It's unclear how serious the injury is, but it appeared initially that Girardi avoided anything major. We'll look for an update after the game if he's unable to return.

Rangers' Girardi Finds Net In Win

News: Dan Girardi scored a goal in Monday's 4-3 overtime victory.
Analysis: Look out, the mostly quiet Dan Girardi has a goal and an assist in his last two contests. The veteran blue liner has now managed to notch seven 20-point campaigns in his nine year career. With Girardi's specialty being blocked shots (three on Monday) and a few rare cameos on the team's second power play unit we're not really recommending this will continue, but it's nice to see for more unique fantasy format owners.

Rangers' Girardi Will Play Saturday

News: Dan Girardi (arm) will play Saturday against the Bruins, Steve Zipay of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Dan Girardi was forced out the Rangers' last game on Thursday against the Senators after suffering a gash to his arm when he was struck by a puck. He required stitches to patch up the wound, but it sounds as though it won't limit him at all in Saturday's game. He'll skate next to Ryan McDonagh on the Rangers' top defensive pairing.

Rangers' Girardi (Arm) Hit By Puck, Gets Stitches

News: Dan Girardi suffered a "gash" on his arm after getting hit by the puck in Thursday's game and will require stitches.
Analysis: Dan Girardi's injury doesn't appear to be serious, as it's just a large cut. The Rangers' next game comes Saturday against the Bruins, but he seems probable for the game at this point. The team should provide an update on his status at some point before the game, confirming whether or not he will play.

Rangers' Girardi Scores In Loss

News: Dan Girardi potted his third goal of the season in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Red Wings.
Analysis: Dan Girardi isn't much of an offensive producer, but was able to punch home a loose puck in the crease to tie the game at one Wednesday. The Rangers outplayed the Red Wings most of the night, but ultimately fell in overtime on Marek Zidlicky's first goal as a Red Wing.

Modest Streak For Rangers' Girardi

News: Dan Girardi registered on the scoresheet for the third consecutive game Thursday, notching two assists in a shootout loss to Vancouver.
Analysis: A full quarter of his 16 points on the year have come over these last three games, but there's no sense in relying on consistent offensive productivity from Dan Girardi, who's locked into the role of a defensively oriented defenseman who'll chip in 20-something points on an annual basis.

Rangers' Girardi With Assists In Consecutive Games

News: Dan Girardi had an assist in Monday's 6-5 win over the Islanders.
Analysis: The 30-year-old Dan Girardi also registered nearly three minutes of penalty kill time and two shots on goal in the back-and-forth shootout. That's assists in consecutive games for Girardi. If the team continues its offensive assault (22 goals in the last four games), it's plausible to believe the first-pair defenseman will continue to produce more consistently. Just don't count on it, as Girardi has 14 points through 55 games played.

Rangers' Girardi Get Maintenance Day

News: Dan Girardi did not practice with the team on Friday, reports, reports Andrew Gross of The Record.
Analysis: After posting seven hits, two shots on goal and blocking three more in Thursday's loss to Montreal, it's just a maintenance day for the top four defenseman who is expected to play on Saturday against Carolina. While the veteran's long-term health is of major consequence to the organization, this news should have little impact on standard league fantasy owners who probably don't deploy Dan Girardi's (11 points through 46 games) services.

Pressure Off Rangers' Girardi

News: Dan Girardi has three assists in his last seven contests.
Analysis: No, he's not steaming up the league leaderboard and while the 30-year-old's career numbers suggest his offensive production could taper off in the month of February, historically he plays some of his best hockey in March. Additionally, the long-term signing of fellow defenseman Marc Staal could theoretically ease some of the pressure off Dan Girardi, who signed a long-term deal last season. Beginning to teeter on fantasy relevance in deeper formats, the veteran blueliner is plus-6 with 11 points (two goals) and 65 shots on goal through 44 games this season.

Girardi Registers Another Point In Rangers' Win

News: Dan Girardi logged an assist and a plus-2 rating in a 3-1 victory over San Jose on Saturday.
Analysis: After an eight game skid, that's a point in consecutive games for the veteran blue liner. Dan Girardi, who has just nine points on the season, is going to have to string a few more together before he'll get our endorsement.

Rangers' Girardi Active In Victory

News: Dan Girardi picked up an assist, doled out eight hits and blocked four shots in Thursday's win over the Kings.
Analysis: Dan Girardi is the Rangers' team leader in both hits (98) and blocks (82), but he's struggled to maintain relevance in fantasy leagues that don't count those categories. The assist was his first point in the last nine games.

Rangers' Girardi (Foot) Will Play Wednesday

News: Dan Girardi (foot) will play Wednesday against Florida.
Analysis: Dan Girardi missed practice Tuesday, which coach Alain Vigneault called a "maintenance day," and, as expected, he'll be back on the ice Wednesday. The defenseman has two goals and six assists on the season.

Rangers' Girardi A Game-Time Decision Wednesday

News: Dan Girardi is nursing a foot injury and will be a game-time decision Wednesday versus the Panthers, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.
Analysis: Coach Alain Vigneault characterized Dan Girardi's absence from Tuesday's practice as a maintenance day, but it sounds like he's at least a little bit hobbled by the puck he took to his left foot Monday versus the Stars. For his part, Girardi indicated he expects to play Wednesday, but his status should be verified after the team's gameday skate.

Rangers' Girardi Pots Game-Winner Sunday

News: Dan Girardi scored the game-winning goal in Sunday's win over the Oilers.
Analysis: Dan Girardi now has two goals and seven points in 28 games, to go with a plus-2 rating. The 30-year-old had gone quiet recently, as his tally Sunday was just his first point in 11 games. He's been more involved in the offense lately, however, recording a plus-5 rating in his last two games. More known for his defensive play, Girardi is still on pace for a five-goal, 20-point season, making him worth your time in some deeper formats.

Rangers' Girardi In A Funk

News: Dan Girardi has now gone nine straight games without registering a point.
Analysis: More known for his strong defensive play, the usually dependable Dan Girardi has most notably posted a minus-6 rating during the streak. While he's currently logging 20-plus minutes a game alongside first pair partner Ryan McDonagh, there's very few formats we could recommend the nine-year veteran as he's having arguably one of the worst seasons of his career.

Rangers' Girardi Scores First Goal

News: Dan Girardi potted his first goal of the season Thursday, a late-second-period tally that gave the Rangers a 3-2 lead in what ended up being a 4-3 shootout loss to the Avalanche.
Analysis: Dan Girardi was the beneficiary of a perfect pass from Mats Zuccarello right to him in the slot, and he buried the chance past Semyon Varlamov. With five points -- but 42 hits and 42 blocks -- in 16 games, Girardi's delivering about what we expect from him.

Can Rangers' Girardi Lead A Limping Defense?

News: Dan Girardi logged a game-high 32:58 in total ice time as the Rangers lost to the Blues in a shootout on Monday.
Analysis: Unfortunately, Dan Girardi (5:14 in PP TOI) was also tied for a game-high minus-2 rating with teammate Tanner Glass. In the wake of two major penalties on the team's blue line, Girardi has logged 66 minutes of total ice time in the last two contests. With both Kevin Klein and Ryan McDonagh out indefinitely, and a very busy schedule ahead for the club (13 games in 26 days), it's not likely to get any easier. Sure, he's guaranteed top four minutes, but a plethora of inexperience on the team's blue line hardly inspires enough confidence to pick up 32-year-old Ontario native.

Rangers' Girardi To Play Tuesday

News: Dan Girardi (foot) will play in Tuesday's game against the Devils, Newsday's Steve Zipay reports.
Analysis: A decision on Dan Girardi's status was not expected to come until game time, but it appears fantasy owners will not have to wait to find out whether or not he will suit up Tuesday night. Girardi figures to line up in his regular spot on the Rangers' top defensive pairing.

Rangers' Girardi Could Play Tuesday

News: Dan Girardi (foot) will be a game-time decision for Tuesday's game against the Devils.
Analysis: Dan Girardi did not practice Monday after receiving stitches in his foot following Sunday's game, but he gave himself a chance to play Tuesday by taking part in the Rangers' morning skate. A final call on Girardi's status likely will not be made until pregame warmups, but head coach Alain Vigneault said "it would take a lot to keep (Girardi) out of the lineup."
