Isles' Halak Suffers Tough Loss In Game 7

News: Jaroslav Halak turned aside 24 of 26 shots, but was on the losing end of Monday's Game 7 against the Capitals.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak turned in another solid performance, but his mates mustered just 11 shots as he suffered the tough-luck loss in the decisive game of the series. The 29-year-old started a career-high 59 games this season as he easily set a new career-best mark with 38 wins. After that showing in the regular season and a strong postseason performance, Halak figures to once again be the main man in net for the Isles in the 2015-16 season.

Isles' Halak In Net For Game 7

News: Jaroslav Halak will start in net for Monday's Game 7 matchup against the Capitals.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak has started every game in the series, so it's no surprise he'll be in net once again Monday with the series on the line. It's win or go home for Halak and the Isles, and he'll look to follow up a strong performance in Game 6 with another one in Game 7.

Isles, Halak Stave Off Elimination

News: Jaroslav Halak denied 38 of 39 shots in Saturday's Game 6 victory over the Capitals.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak was strong in goal from most of the day, but also benefited from a some fortunate luck at the tail end of the game. After teammate Nikolay Kulemin tallied the eventual game-winner about midway through the third period, Halak nearly let in the tying goal four minutes later from the Caps' Jay Beagle, whose shot attempt off a rebound elevated over the goalie and hit the crossbar before Isles defenseman Johnny Boychuk shuffled the puck to safety. Halak's .974 save percentage was his best mark of the series, and should give him some confidence heading into Monday's Game 7 in Washington.

Isles' Halak To Start Saturday

News: Jaroslav Halak will be between the pipes in Saturday's Game 6 against the Capitals, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Despite being pulled in the third period of Thursday's Game 5 after allowing five goals on 35 shots, the Islanders will turn to Jaroslav Halak once again for Game 6 on Saturday. He'll need to turn in a much better performance in Game 6 for the Islanders to have any chance at evening the series at three games a piece.

Isles' Halak Gives Up Five, Loses Game 5

News: Jaroslav Halak was tagged for five goals on 35 shots Thursday in a Game 5 loss to the Capitals. He was relieved with 11 minutes remaining in the third period.
Analysis: With that, the Caps have swung the series in the opposite direction, having turned the Islanders' 2-1 lead into a 3-2 deficit. Michal Neuvirth stopped all six shots in relief, but it's hard to believe that the Isles will turn away from Jaroslav Halak in Game 6 even though he's allowed four or more goals in four of his last eight games. At least in the other four, he's only allowed a grand total of five goals.

Isles' Halak In Net For Critical Game 5

News: Jaroslav Halak will be in the crease for Thursday's Game 5 against the Capitals, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak has fared well thus far in the playoffs, posting a 1.92 GAA and .930 save percentage over four games. Unfortunately for the Islanders, Braden Holtby has been equally solid in the Capitals' net, keeping the series tied at two games as it returns to Washington. Expect both coaches to ride their respective No. 1 goalies until the series is decided.

Halak, Isles Drop Game 4

News: Jaroslav Halak stopped 28 of 30 shots Tuesday in Game 4 against Washington, but was stuck with a series-tying 2-1 loss.
Analysis: Other than a four-goal Game 2 misstep, Jaroslav Halak's been largely unimpeachable in this series; the Isles' offense, however, has evaporated against Braden Holtby and the Washington defense. Now the series heads back to the Capitals' home ice, where Halak is likely to draw the start in Thursday's Game 5.

Islanders' Halak Starting Game 4

News: Jaroslav Halak will start Tuesday's Game 4 against the Capitals, Newsday's Arthur Staple reports.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak has allowed six goals on 79 shots (.924 save percentage) through the first three games of the series, helping the Islanders jump out to a 2-1 lead. Barring a complete meltdown that lasts multiple games, he'll continue to start every playoff contest for the Isles.

Isles' Halak Allows One In Win

News: Jaroslav Halak stopped 24 of 25 shots in Sunday's Game 3 win over the Capitals.
Analysis: He wasn't tested as heavily as in Friday's Game 2, but it was a much better outing for Jaroslav Halak as he's now held the Caps to a single goal in two of the three games of the series. Braden Holtby was superb on the other end, so Halak will have to keep up this level of play in order to maintain the series lead before heading back to Washington.

Isles' Halak In Net For Game 3

News: Jaroslav Halak will man the net for Sunday's Game 3 matchup with the Capitals, Brian Compton of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak stopped 31 of the 35 shots he faced in the second game, but it wasn't enough for the Isles to come out on top. He'll look for a better outcome Sunday against the high-powered Capitals.

Isles' Halak Makes 31 Saves In Game 2 Loss

News: Jaroslav Halak stopped 31 of 35 shots in Friday's Game 2 loss to the Capitals.
Analysis: A rough night for Jaroslav Halak, who was beaten three times at even strength. While it wasn't his best game, the series is now tied 1-1 and Halak will get a chance to rebound in Game 3 Sunday in New York. With a 38-17-4 record in the regular season, it's pretty clear Halak is the man for the Islanders. If the Islanders can keep scoring, Halak is good enough to give the team a shot of winning every night.

Halak Will Start Game 2 For The Islanders

News: Jaroslav Halak will start Game 2 for the Islanders on Friday night, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak played well in Game 1 versus Washington so it's no shock that he starts this game. Halak will need to be at the top of his game however as the Caps are sure to come out much harder after playing a very cautious Game 1.

Isles' Halak Allows One In Win

News: Jaroslav Halak stopped 24 of the 25 shots he faced in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Capitals.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak was a little shaky down the stretch of the regular season, but looked solid Wednesday night as the Isles secured an important road win. It will be tough to steal two games on the road against the higher seeded Capitals, so Halak will need to be on his game again Friday night if they want to have a shot at heading back to Long Island up 2-0.

Isles' Halak To Get Start For Game 1

News: Jaroslav Halak will be in the crease for Game 1 of the Islanders' first-round playoff series against the Capitals.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak was wildly inconsistent down the stretch for the Islanders, giving up four, three, zero, five, one, and four goals over his final six outings. While he won three of those games to lead the Islanders to a playoff berth, Halak still ranks among the more shaky netminding options in the postseason. Halak was at least able to provide competent play against the Capitals in his previous two matchups against them this season, winning both times and posting a 2.35 GAA while stopping 48 of 53 (.906 save percentage) shots.

Islanders' Halak Starts In Net Saturday

News: Jaroslav Halak will get the start in goal Saturday against the Blue Jackets, Newsday's Arthur Staple reports.
Analysis: It seemed like the Islanders might rest Jaroslav Halak in advance of the playoffs, but they will run with their starter Saturday, and he should be deployed as usual.

Isles' Halak Comes Through For Victory

News: Jaroslav Halak stopped 37 of 38 shots in Friday's win over the Penguins.
Analysis: After allowing five goals in his previous outing against the Flyers, Jaroslav Halak recovered in swift fashion Friday, while preventing the Isles' Metropolitan rivals from claiming a playoff spot in the process. Expect Halak to be rested for Saturday's season finale against the Blue Jackets in favor of backup Michal Neuvirth, but Halak should be ready to roll for the postseason.

Isles Have Halak In Goal For Friday's Match

News: Jaroslav Halak will be in the crease for Friday's game against the Penguins, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Though the Islanders were able to claim a playoff spot with the Bruins' loss on the Thursday, they'll still stick with their No. 1 netminder in Jaroslav Halak in an attempt to play spoiler against the Penguins, who are still fighting to secure a bid for the postseason. Aside from an easy shutout win over the Sabres last weekend, Halak's play has been mostly ugly of late, as he's surrendered five, three, four, and three goals in four of his previous five outings. He'll try to get back on track Friday in preparation for the postseason, while backup Michal Neuvirth figures to receive the nod for the season finale Saturday against the Blue Jackets.

Isles' Halak Allows Five In Loss

News: Jaroslav Halak gave up five goals on 27 shots Tuesday in a loss to the Flyers.
Analysis: After watching his teammates complete a miraculous third-period comeback from a 4-1 deficit, Jaroslav Halak promptly coughed it away by giving up the game-winning goal to Brayden Schenn with three seconds remaining. While he's done a lot of winning this year, Halak's rate stats have been inconsistent, so it's hard to say which version of him will show up from night to night -- or even period to period.

Isles Roll With Halak On Tuesday

News: Jaroslav Halak will start Tuesday's game against the Flyers.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak, who earned a 21-save shutout win over the Sabres on Saturday, will take aim Tuesday at a Philadelphia squad that has won two of three, including Sunday's 4-1 triumph over the Penguins.

Isles' Halak: 21-Save Shutout Win

News: Jaroslav Halak delivered a 21-save shutout win over Buffalo on Saturday night.
Analysis: He's 3-1-2 in his last six starts and two of those wins have come by shutout. He now has the best record of his career (37-16-3), but his GAA and save percentage aren't quite as good as they've been through his career.

Isles' Halak Gets Call Saturday

News: Jaroslav Halak will be in the net for Saturday's game against the Sabres, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Rather than turning to backup goalie Michal Neuvirth for the start against his former team, coach Jack Capuano opted to stick with Jaroslav Halak in an attempt to get the slumping netminder back on track heading into the postseason. Halak has given up 10 goals while losing two of his last three starts, dropping his GAA to 2.43 for the season. If there's anything that can cure what ails him, though, it's a matchup against the league's lowest-scoring team.

Isles' Halak Stops 36 In Shootout Loss

News: Jaroslav Halak made 36 saves on 39 shots, but was stuck with a 4-3 loss in the shootout Thursday against the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: He outplayed opposing netminder Sergei Bobrovsky in regulation, but Jaroslav Halak was beaten on both shootout attempts he faced, so the exhibition ended quickly. Halak's been coming under fire often of late, having faced 101 shots in the last three games. He's stopped 91 of those, good for a modest .901 save mark.

Isles Roll With Halak On Thursday

News: Jaroslav Halak will start Thursday's game against the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Though the Blue Jackets have been eliminated from playoff contention, they have won their last seven games, so Jaroslav Halak will need be sharp Thursday in order to earn his second straight triumph, on the heels of giving up four goals on 25 shots in Sunday's win over Detroit.

Islanders Turn To Halak On Sunday

News: Jaroslav Halak will start Sunday's game against the Red Wings.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak, who gave way to Michal Neuvirth in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Ducks, will return to the Isles' net on Sunday, with the team looking to snap a three-game slide at home.

Isles' Halak Gives Up Four Goals In Win

News: Jaroslav Halak gave up four goals on 25 shots in Sunday's win over Detroit.
Analysis: It wasn't a good night for Jaroslav Halak, but he was able to get lots of offensive support. While it was just his second win in six games, he now owns an impressive 36-16-2 record on the season. His .913 save percentage and 2.42 GAA are decent, but it's his whopping win total that makes him a great fantasy option every game.
