Late Goal Dooms Halak, Isles

News: Jaroslav Halak stopped 34 shots, but was finished off by a late-third-period goal Thursday in a 3-2 loss to the Kings.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak held tough for much of the game with the Isles being thoroughly outshot, but a deflection by Anze Kopitar in the final five minutes untied it and sent Halak to his fourth loss in five starts. Despite that lack of success in the win column, though, the Czech netminder has posted save marks north of .900 in eight consecutive games.

Islanders Stick With Halak

News: Jaroslav Halak will start Thursday's game against the Kings.
Analysis: With Jaroslav Halak confirmed as the team's starter in goal, the Isles will roll with the same lineup as they did in Tuesday night's 2-1 shootout loss to the Wild. Meanwhile, the Kings are coming off back-to-back wins, Monday over New Jersey and Tuesday over the Rangers.

Isles' Halak Stuck With Shootout Loss

News: Jaroslav Halak made 31 saves on 32 shots, but gave up the only shootout goal Tuesday in a 2-1 loss to Minnesota.
Analysis: A strong outing for Jaroslav Halak, but it's still his third loss in four games. You can hardly blame him, though -- the Czech veteran's given up just five goals in that span, but the Isles scored just a single goal in all three of the losses.

Isles Turn To Halak On Tuesday

News: Jaroslav Halak will start Tuesday's game against the Wild.
Analysis: After missing a short spell with a lower-body injury, Jaroslav Halak returned to notch a 26-save shutout win over the Devils on Saturday. He'll take aim Tuesday at a Minnesota squad that is 21-5-1 since the All Star break, in large part due to the strong play of goalie Devan Dubnyk.

Isles' Halak Bricks Up Net, Delivers Shutout Win

News: Jaroslav Halak delivered a 26-save shutout win over the Devils on Saturday night.
Analysis: Man, it's good to get him back. We're still a little concerned about what he'll deliver in the postseason, but that's still about a dozen games away. He's just what the doctor ordered to get the Isles out of their funk, so load him into your roster and just let him ride.

Isles' Halak Will Start Saturday

News: Jaroslav Halak will be between the pipes Saturday against the Devils.
Analysis: After sitting out Tuesday's game against the Blackhawks with a lower-body injury, Jaroslav Halak returned to practice Thursday and no longer seems to harboring any concerns about the ailment. Though the Islanders have dropped their last four games, Halak is still worth keeping active Saturday against a squad that ranks 28th in the NHL in scoring and that will be playing its second game in as many nights.

Isles' Halak Deemed 'Good To Go'

News: Coach Jack Capuano said Jaroslav Halak (lower body) is "good to go" after the netminder practiced Thursday.
Analysis: The Islanders' subsequent demotion of third-string goalie Kevin Poulin back to AHL Bridgeport after practice further demonstrates that Jaroslav Halak will be ready to play Saturday against the Devils. Halak was forced to miss only one game due to the injury.

Isles' Halak Practices

News: Jaroslav Halak (lower body) practiced Thursday.
Analysis: Assuming no setbacks, with the Isles on a four-game slide, Jaroslav Halak looks like a candidate to return to action as soon as Saturday's game against New Jersey.

Isles' Halak Skates With Team

News: Jaroslav Halak (lower body) skated with the Islanders on Wednesday, according to the Islanders web site.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak did not participate in practice and thus didn't take any shots. The Islanders don't play again until Saturday versus the Devils so Halak still has two days to get ready to play but it's unlikely that he would start Saturday without at least one practice under his belt.

Isles Halak Day-To-Day

News: Jaroslav Halak is day-to-day with a lower-body injury.
Analysis: With Jaroslav Halak ailing and not making the trip to Chicago, per Newsday's Arthur Staple, Kevin Poulin was recalled from AHL Bridgeport in advance of Tuesday's game against the Blackhawks. Though Staple suggests that Halak's injury is not believed to be serious, Michal Neuvirth, who figures to get Tuesday's starting nod, and could see added action beyond that, depending on how Halak progresses.

Isles' Halak Unlikely To Play Tuesday

News: Jaroslav Halak (undisclosed) did not travel with the Islanders and is unlikely to play Tuesday versus the Blackhawks, according to Newsday's Arthur Staple.
Analysis: There is no word yet as to what the injury is or how long he will be out of the lineup for but it is not expected to be a long term absence. The Islanders only play two games in the next 10 days to they may just be giving him a vacation to rest up for the stretch run and the playoffs.

Isles' Halak Suffers Loss

News: Jaroslav Halak allowed two goals on 28 shots in a 2-1 loss to the Senators on Wednesday.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak has now dropped two straight games, both of which were tough contests against the first-place Rangers and surging Senators. He'll certainly cede the odd start to the newly-acquired Michal Neuvirth down the stretch, but with 34 wins on the season, Halak is very much the man in Long Island.

Isles' Halak To Get Nod Friday

News: Jaroslav Halak will be in the crease for Friday's game against the Senators, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak took a tough toss his last time out against the rival Rangers, stopping 20 of the first 21 shots he faced before a carom off the skate of teammate Ryan Strome beat the goalie for the game-winner. It doesn't seem as though Halak has ceded much ground to Michal Neuvirth as the Isles' No. 1 goalie, but with another back-to-back set kicking off Friday, look for Neuvirth to receive a start Saturday versus the Canadiens.

Bad Bounce Dooms Isles' Halak

News: Jaroslav Halak stopped 20 of 22 shots Tuesday in a 2-1 loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: The game-winning goal by Rick Nash was a piece of tough luck for Jaroslav Halak, as Nash fired a hard shot that deflected unintentionally off the skate of Isles forward Ryan Strome and perfectly high to the blocker side on goal. Tough one for Halak, and the Isles -- so good at winning earlier in the year -- continue to have trouble getting things going of late. Halak's alternated wins and losses over his last eight starts.

Isles Return To Halak On Tuesday

News: Jaroslav Halak will start Tuesday's game against the Rangers.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak returns to the Isles' net Tuesday after giving way to Michal Neuvirth in the team's past two games. He'll square off against a Rangers squad that is coming off a 1-0 overtime victory in Chicago on Sunday.

Halak, Isles Get By Predators

News: Jaroslav Halak stopped 28 of 31 shots Thursday in a 4-3 win over Nashville.
Analysis: A 31-second lapse in the third period during which the Preds scored two goals on Jaroslav Halak injured his final stat line, but it's still yet another win -- his 34th in 48 starts on the year. Halak should continue to see regular work in the season's final month-plus, though recent addition Michal Neuvirth provides the Isles with a reliable backup option that'll allow them to rest the veteran starter down the stretch.

Isles' Halak Enters Net Thursday

News: Jaroslav Halak will be in the crease for Thursday's game against the Predators, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak might be starting to feel some more pressure on his job security after the Isles acquired Michal Neuvirth from Buffalo at Monday's deadline, but he'll still enter the net for the second straight game since the trade. Though his season ratios (2.47 GAA, .911 save percentage) aren't spectacular, Halak has ridden a productive supporting cast to a 33-13-1 record. Only two goalies have recorded more wins than him in 2014-15, with one of them being the Preds' Pekka Rinne, who he is expected to square off against Thursday. The Predators rank second in the NHL with 89 points, but the team is in the midst of its worst slump of the season, losing four straight games entering Thursday's tilt.

Isles' Halak Takes First OT Loss

News: Jaroslav Halak lost in overtime for the first time all year Tuesday, giving up three goals on 35 shots against the Stars.
Analysis: It wasn't a bad effort by any means by Jaroslav Halak, who had made 46 starts without losing in overtime before Cody Eakin beat him at the 2:18 mark of the extra frame. Ten of those 46 games had gone to OT or require a shootout, and he'd won all of them. Nonetheless, Halak has been generally reliable all year, particularly in the wins category, and that should persist down the stretch.

Isles Turn To Halak On Tuesday

News: Jaroslav Halak will start Tuesday's game against the Stars.
Analysis: While Jaroslav Halak's position as the Islanders' top goalie is secure, the team's addition of Michal Neuvirth at the trade deadline represents an upgrade at the backup position and gives the team a reliable option to spell Halak down the stretch run.

Islanders' Halak Makes 26 Saves In Win

News: Jaroslav Halak made 26 saves on 27 shots in Friday's win over the Flames.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak now owns an impressive 33-13-0 record on the season with a .911 save percentage and 2.46 GAA. While his rate stats could use some improvement, Halak's ability to win almost every game makes him one of the best fantasy options around.

Islanders' Halak To Start Against Flames

News: Jaroslav Halak will start Friday's game against the Flames, Shannon Hogan of MSG Networks reports.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak and Chad Johnson have alternated games over the last week and a half, but it seems the schedule is at least partly to blame. While it's too early to consider this a timeshare, Halak could certainly use a nice outing Friday night.

Isles' Halak Gives Up Three Goals In Loss

News: Jaroslav Halak gave up three goals on 23 shots in Sunday's loss to the Canucks.
Analysis: It was the second loss in three games for Jaroslav Halak, who has given up 14 goals in his last four appearances. While he's had a few lackluster outings of late, don't panic, as Halak still owns an impressive 32-13-0 record on the season. If you're looking for strong win totals and decent rate stats, Halak is your man.

Isles' Halak To Start Sunday

News: Jaroslav Halak will start in goal Sunday against the Canucks.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak stopped 30 of the 32 shots he faced in his last outing Thursday against the Predator en route to his 32nd win of the season. He got the day off Saturday for the first of back-to-back games, but will sit in the crease against the Canucks on Sunday.

Halak Stops 30 As Isles Roll

News: Jaroslav Halak made 30 saves on 32 shots in a 5-2 win over the Predators on Thursday.
Analysis: The Isles achieved the unlikely feat of getting to Nashville netminder Pekka Rinne five times, and Jaroslav Halak showed his gratitude by holding down his end of the bargain. After getting tagged for six goals Monday against the Rangers, he's popped right back into the win column for the sixth time in his last seven starts.

Isles Turn To Halak On Thursday

News: Jaroslav Halak will start Thursday's game against the Predators.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak returns to the Isles' net after giving way to Chad Johnson in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Hurricanes. In his last start, Halak allowed six goals to the Rangers on Monday, but prior to that he had reeled off five straight wins, while allowing 11 goals in that span.
