Isles' Halak May Be Nursing Injury

News: Jaroslav Halak doesn't look like he'll be available for Tuesday's game against the Canadiens due to an unreported injury.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak was absent from the Isles' morning skate with what was described as a maintenance day, but the team's recall of Kevin Poulin in the afternoon suggests Halak may be nursing a legitimate injury. The Islanders haven't played since Saturday, so it's possible that Halak may have gotten nicked up in that victory over the Lightning. Further word on his condition should come from coach Jack Capuano before long, but Chad Johnson will get the start Tuesday with Poulin presumably set to serve as his backup.

Isles' Halak: Four Straight Wins

News: Jaroslav Halak made 20 saves in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Lightning.
Analysis: He was barely tested -- his mates absolutely peppered the Tampa goalie. He now has four straight wins against very good teams -- Tampa Bay, Detroit and Chicago. He's worth activating.

Isles Sticking With Halak On Saturday

News: Jaroslav Halak will be in the crease again Saturday against the Lightning, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: It's the first time Jaroslav Halak will start both ends of a back-to-back on the season, as he'll be granted the nod after facing only 18 shots in Friday's victory over the Red Wings. The Lightning will counter in goal with rookie Andrei Vasilevskiy, who was victorious in his NHL debut Tuesday.

Isles' Halak Shuts Down Red Wings Friday

News: Jaroslav Halak made 17 saves on 18 shots in Friday's win over the Red Wings.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak has now won three straight games, allowing only five goals in that span. He is 17-6-0 this season with a .918 save percentage and 2.30 GAA. The 29-year-old is an elite fantasy option on an Islanders team that sits second in the Eastern Conference with 44 points. Keep him rolling.

Isles Sticking With Halak On Friday

News: Jaroslav Halak will be between the pipes Friday against the Red Wings.
Analysis: While his recent 11-game winning streak is now kaput, Jaroslav Halak has rebounded from back-to-back dreadful outings against the Blues with strong efforts in wins over the Blackhawks and Devils, respectively. His play has the Isles looking like one of the Eastern Conference's better teams this season, as he enters Friday's tilt with an outstanding 16-6-0 record to accompany his 2.35 GAA and .917 save percentage.

Isles' Halak Earns 16th Win

News: Jaroslav Halak stopped 24 of 26 shots en route to a 3-2 shootout victory over the visiting Devils on Monday.
Analysis: The Isles were able to overcome a 2-0 deficit after the first period, crawling back into the game with goals in the second and third. Jaroslav Halak is a perfect 4-0 in the shootout this season, which has ultimately helped him to a shiny 16-6-0 record to go with his 2.36 GAA and .917 save percentage. Most importantly, after two disastrous games against the Blues in which he surrendered 11 goals, the Czech netminder has righted the ship quickly, grabbing wins against the Blackhawks and Devils. Continue to use him with confidence.

Isles' Halak Starting Monday

News: Jaroslav Halak will start in net Monday against the Devils.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak played well in a win over the Blackhawks on Saturday, and will get the call again Monday. He's been playing much better than backup Chad Johnson this season, and still has a firm grasp on the starting job.

Isles' Halak Gets Win With 23-Save Performance

News: Jaroslav Halak made 23 saves in a 3-2 win over the Blackhawks on Saturday night. The win stopped the Islanders' three-game losing streak.
Analysis: He'd been in net for two of those three and had allowed 11 goals in those outings. It's nice to see him right the ship. Consider those games a blip on anotherwise solid season (he did win 11 straight starts before that). Put him in the blue paint.

Islanders Will Start Halak On Saturday

News: Jaroslav Halak will be the Islanders' starter in goal Saturday versus the Blackhawks, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak has followed up an 11-game winning streak with back-to-back disastrous starts against the Blues, who destroyed their former netminder with 11 goals over the two games. There won't be much of a dropoff in talent against the Blackhawks, making Halak something of a risky play in daily formats, despite the fact that he'll be benefiting from playing on home ice.

Isles' Halak Torched By Blues Again

News: Jaroslav Halak was lit up by the Blues for the second consecutive start Thursday, giving up five goals on 32 shots in a 6-3 road loss.
Analysis: He'd missed Tuesday's game to an upper-body ailment, but got through this one okay except for the whole allowing-five-goals things. Just like Saturday back on Long Island, the two teams entered the second intermission in a close game -- tied this time -- and then Jaroslav Halak was burned for three goals in the final stanza. Fortunately for him, the Isles don't play St. Louis again during the regular season.

Isles' Halak Awarded Thursday Start

News: Jaroslav Halak (upper body) will be given Thursday's start against the Blues, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak was a surprising scratch in advance of Tuesday's game with the injury, but as was indicated at the time, it was only a minor concern for the goalie. He'll look for some measure redemption against his former team, whom he surrendered six goals to last weekend to bring an end to his 11-game winning streak.

Isles' Halak Could Play Thursday

News: Jaroslav Halak (upper body) could play versus the Blues on Thursday, according to Newsday.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak was hurt during practice Tuesday and missed the game versus the Wild but the injury is considered to be minor. The Islanders could still elect to give him another day off as a reunion against his former team, one in which he allowed six goals to last Saturday, may not be the best idea.

Isles' Halak Unable To Start Tuesday

News: Jaroslav Halak has a seemingly minor upper-body injury and will back up Chad Johnson on Tuesday in Minnesota.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak had been set for the start, but apparently he's not quite 100 percent. The very late scratch stinks for owners Tuesday, though if it's any consolation Halak was able to participate in warmups and at least he's fit to be the backup.

Isles' Halak To Get Nod Tuesday

News: Jaroslav Halak will be the starting goalie for the Islanders on Tuesday against the Wild, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: The netminder saw his 11-game winning streak come to an end with a resounding thud Saturday against the Blues, as he was whipped for six goals on 40 shots. His recent play will probably allow him to be forgiven for the hiccup, but it will still be difficult for him to return to the win column on the road against a Wild squad that ranks second in shot attempts per game.

Isles' Halak Finally Takes Loss

News: Jaroslav Halak gave up six goals on 34 shots in Saturday's 6-4 loss to the visiting Blues, putting an end to his 12-game winning streak.
Analysis: The six tallies against are rather dreadful -- especially after he was staked to a 3-0 lead by the Isles' offense -- but owners are more than willing to give Jaroslav Halak a free pass given his recent success. The Islanders have been one of the NHL's best teams this year, with much of that credit going to their veteran netminder, and there's no indication that this is anything more than a one-off. However, the team is playing without top blue liners Lubomir Visnovsky, Johnny Boychuk and Travis Hamonic (all upper body), so Halak may have to weather an increased barrage of shots in their absence. In 19 appearances this season, Halak now sports a .920 save percentage and 2.26 GAA.

Isles' Halak Will Start Saturday

News: Jaroslav Halak will start in goal Saturday against the Blues, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
Analysis: As expected, Jaroslav Halak will mind the net Saturday opposite Jake Allen, seeking his 12th consecutive victory. Halak has allowed two goals or fewer in all but one of his starts since his last loss Nov. 1.

Halak Sets Islanders Record With 11th Straight Win

News: Jaroslav Halak stopped 20 of 21 shots Thursday to deliver a second consecutive win against the Senators and record his 11th consecutive victory -- setting a new franchise record for the Islanders.
Analysis: The only thing more amazing than this winning streak is that it was immediately preceded by a four-game losing streak. Jaroslav Halak's gone more than a month without taking a loss and has given up two or fewer goals in 10 of these 11 games. The Islanders look like they're for real this year, and Halak has been a huge reason behind that.

Islanders' Halak Goes For 11th Straight Win

News: Jaroslav Halak will be in goal for Thursday's game against the Senators.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak has been red hot for a while now, winning 10 starts in a row since Nov. 5. He will have a good chance to make that 11 straight wins facing an Ottawa team that has lost five of six games entering Thursday's contest.

Isles' Halak Stops 16, Wins 10th Straight

News: Jaroslav Halak saved 16 of 18 shots in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime win over Ottawa -- his 10th consecutive victory.
Analysis: Yep, Jaroslav Halak now hasn't lost in more than a month -- he's perfect since a 3-1 defeat at the hands (fins?) of the Sharks back on Nov. 1. This was far from the finest start he's put together over the course of this streak, but Halak continues to put up great numbers nonetheless for the upstart Islanders.

Islanders' Halak Goes For 10th Straight Win

News: Jaroslav Halak will be between the pipes for Tuesday's game against the Senators.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak has won nine straight starts, and he will have a good chance to make it 10 in a row against an Ottawa team that has won just three of its last 11 games entering Tuesday's contest.

Isles' Halak Wins Ninth In A Row

News: Jaroslav Halak made 34 saves in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Devils. He earned the game's first star for his effort. It's his ninth straight win.
Analysis: He was particularly strong in the third when he made 16 saves alone, including five on a five-on-three. He's white hot right now -- take advantage.

Islanders' Halak Gets The Nod Saturday

News: Jaroslav Halak will be between the pipes for Saturday's game against the Devils.

Isles' Halak Extends Win Streak

News: Jaroslav Halak made 25 saves in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Capitals.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak extended his winning streak to eight games Wednesday, as the red-hot Islanders are shaping up to be one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. He'll likely get a break at some point this weekend, as the Isles play the Caps and Devils on back-to-back nights.

Isles' Halak To Start Wednesday

News: Jaroslav Halak will be in the net Wednesday against the Capitals, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak will take aim at his eighth straight win Wednesday, matching up against the team he briefly played with last season after being acquired last March. The netminder is 7-1 with a 1.31 GAA and .950 save percentage so far this month.

Isles' Halak Strong In Shootout Shutout

News: Jaroslav Halak made 21 saves to record his third shutout of the season in Monday's 1-0 shootout win over the Flyers.
Analysis: Jaroslav Halak had to work hard for his seventh straight win, as Steve Mason turned in a stellar performance for the Flyers, but Halak stopped both shots in the shootout to extend his streak. At 10-4-0, Halak is on a roll right now, having allowed just eight goals during his seven-game winning streak.
