Murphy back up with Devils

News: New Jersey recalled defensemen Cory Murphy and Matt Corrente from Lowell of the AHL on Friday. Both played against the Predators, although Corrente skated as a RW on the fourth line.
Analysis: Murphy has been somewhat of a disappointing player since making his NHL debut in 2007-08. He was a prized overseas import and has offensive talent. He just hasn't produced on a regular basis. Murphy has minimal Fantasy appeal.

Eckford up, Murphy down for Devils

News: The Devils have called up D Tyler Eckford up from the AHL. To make room, D Cory Murphy was sent down.
Analysis: Eckford, a seventh-round pick from 2007, is off to a great start in his second AHL season with 15 points in 18 games and was named the league's player of the week on Sunday. The 24-year-old isn't much of a prospect, so don't worry about him in Fantasy play just yet. Murphy can also continue to be ignored.

Analysis: Murphy had zero points on the season in five games played before the goal on Friday. He was waived by New Jersey earlier in the season but was picked up again. Still, he has no Fantasy value at this time.

Devils sign blue-liner Murphy

News: The Devils have signed D Cory Murphy to a two-way contract.Murphy, who spent six seasons playing in Europe, added two goals and four assists in five AHL appearances.
Analysis: Murphy split last season with Florida, Rochester in the AHL and Tampa Bay. He had five goals and 11 assists in 32 NHL games. He was claimed off re-entry waivers by the Lightning in January after starting the season with the Panthers. He has limited Fantasy value at this time, but showed improvement after moving to Tampa. Only draft him in super-deep leagues.

Murphy out 3-4 weeks

News: The Sports Xchange reports Lightning D Cory Murphy suffered a broken bone in his right foot on March 17 against Toronto and is expected to miss three to four weeks, which would keep him out until at least the last week of the season.
Analysis: It's a real shame Murphy has to likely miss the rest of the season since he has become a viable Fantasy defenseman after joining the Lightning lineup. It's probably safe to cut Murphy since the Lightning have no reason to rush him back.

Murphy still sitting out on Saturday

News: Tampa Bay D Cory Murphy missed Saturday's game against the Thrashers on Saturday due to a foot injury sustained in Tuesday's game against Toronto, the second game he has missed due to the injury. He remains questionable for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Murphy has seen a nice uptick in production this season since moving from Florida to Tampa Bay. He has 15 points in his last 24 games but remains a low-end option. He is an injury risk for the upcoming scoring period and is not a suggested start.

News: Tampa Bay D Cory Murphy missed Thursday's game against the Capitals on Thursday due to a lower body injury sustained in Tuesday's game against Toronto. He had a four-game point streak going before missing Thursday's game. He is questionable for Saturday's game against the Thrashers.
Analysis: Murphy has been playing much better since making the move north from Florida to Tampa Bay. He has 15 points in his last 24 games but remains a low-end option. Wait to see if he plays on Saturday before making a decision on him for the upcoming scoring period.

News: Lightning D Cory Murphy sustained a lower body injury and missed the third period Tuesday against the Maple Leafs. He recorded an assist in 15:16 of ice time and finished at even. Murphy has two goals and two assists during a four-game point streak.
Analysis: Murphy has two goals and five assists in eight March games and has been a hit since joining the Lightning lineup. He has 15 points (five goals) in 24 games. He has been a great veteran presence despite the ship sinking in Tampa Bay. Murphy can be a viable low-end Fantasy defenseman when healthy.

Murphy opens up scoring early

News: Lightning D Cory Murphy scored an early goal on Wednesday against the Senators, scoring only 2L37 into the first period in a 3-2 overtime loss. It was his 13th overall point on the season with four goals and nine assists.
Analysis: Murphy has six points in his last seven games, nearly doubling his points total on the season. Murphy has been a solid pickup for the Lightning since he was claimed off waivers in late January. He has filled a need on the blue line with all the injuries Tampa has sustained, but his offensive production is still a bit sporadic. Continue to view Murphy more as a low-end Fantasy option.

Murphy hasn't scored in nine games

News: Lightning D Cory Murphy failed to record a point and finished at even in 20:51 of ice time Saturday against the Capitals. Murphy has two assists and no goals in six February games, but hasn't scored in nine outings.
Analysis: Murphy began his Tampa Bay career with a three-game point streak, but he has factored in just two of his last nine games. He is still logging heavy playing time for Tampa Bay since they are weak along the blue line, and Murphy should continue to see favorable PT down the stretch. However, he remains more of a low-end Fantasy flier.

Tampa's Murphy has four points in three

News: Lightning D Cory Murphy assisted in Tuesday's win over the Canadiens and now has four points in his last three games.
Analysis: Murphy got off to a nice start in the 2007-2008 season but was derailed by an injury to his shoulder. He has been dealing with the injury most of the season before the Panthers dropped him. He seems to like his new surroundings and could be a decent option in deeper leagues if he keeps this up in Tampa.

Murphy has assist in Lightning debut

News: Tampa Bay claimed D Cory Murphy off re-entry waivers from Florida Monday and wasted little time inserting him into the lineup as he debuted against the Stars. Murphy recorded an assist in 23:12 of ice time and spent four minutes in the penalty box.
Analysis: Murphy had a promising start to his NHL career in 2007-08 before a shoulder injury hindered him the rest of the season. Murphy was still battling the shoulder ailment for most of the 2008-09 season and then got lost in the shuffle in Florida. Perhaps with a fresh start in Tampa he can get his career back on track. Murphy is definitely a player to keep tabs on in Fantasy.

Lightning grab Murphy off waivers

News: The Lightning have grabbed D Cory Murphy off re-entry waivers from the Panthers.
Analysis: Murphy is in his second NHL season, but has just one assist in seven games so far. He missed a ton of time with a shoulder injury and his value only lies in the deepest of keeper Fantasy leagues for now.

Panthers recall Murphy, waive him

News: The South Florida SunSentinel reports that Panthers D Cory Murphy finished his two-week conditioning stint in the AHL, but was then waived by Florida with the intention of sending him right back to Rochester.
Analysis: Murphy was off to a great start as a rookie in 2007-08 before a shoulder injury sidelined him for several weeks. When he returned, he wasn't the same player and hasn't been since. He now gets the lost in the mix in Florida and has little Fantasy value until further notice.

News: The South Florida SunSentinel reports that Panthers D Cory Murphy was taken off injured reserve Tuesday and has been sent to Rochester of the AHL for a two-week conditioning stint.

News: The Miami Herald reports that Panthers D Cory Murphy (shoulder) will practice in full Wednesday. "It's feeling pretty good right now, I can do just about everything out there," Murphy said. "There's no timetable. If it keeps feeling good, I hope to be out there soon."
Analysis: Murphy was off to a fast start in 2007-08 before the shoulder injury took his career way off track. He was not having a good start to the 2008-09 season and averages only about 10 minutes per game. Don't worry too much about his possible return date.

Analysis: Stillman, Booth and Horton have the most Fantasy value of this group, so keep an eye on their status heading into Fantasy Week 11 (Dec. 15-21). Olesz, Zednik and Murphy aren't worth worrying about for the time being in any Fantasy format.

Analysis: Murphy was off to a fast start in 2007-08 before the shoulder injury took his career way off track. He is not having a good start to the 2008-09 season and is averaging about 10 minutes per game. Murphy is a poor Fantasy option at this time. Keep him reserved Week 4 (Oct. 27-Nov. 2).

Murphy injured on Friday

News: Florida D Cory Murphy injured his shoulder against San Jose on Friday night and did not play in Saturday's game against the Blues.
Analysis: Murphy is a second-year defenseman who could have some value as a low-end reserve blue-liner in Fantasy play, but it really depends on how much ice time he gets.

Frolik, Matthias and Murphy make Panthers

News: The Florida Panthers announced their opening night roster Wednesday, and rookies Michael Frolik and Shawn Matthias were both on the list, along with D Cory Murphy.
Analysis: Frolik and Matthias are likely only going to be up with the Panthers for a little bit, as Stephen Weiss, Radek Dvorak and David Booth are close to recovering from their respective injuries. The rookies have nice long-term keeper value, but it's really unclear how much impact they'll have this season. Murphy is a second-year defenseman who could have some value as a low-end reserve blue-liner in Fantasy play, but it really depends on how much ice time he gets.
