Rangers Trade Dorsett To The Canucks

News: The Rangers traded Derek Dorsett to the Canucks on Friday in exchange for a third-round pick, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports.
Analysis: Derek Dorsett appeared in just 51 games for the Rangers during the 2013-14 campaign, but he has played at least that many games at the NHL level in five of the last six seasons. He will likely slot in as a third- or fourth-line forward with the Canucks.

Rangers' Dorsett Quiet in Loss

News: Derek Dorsett played over 17-minutes in Saturday's Game 2, double overtime loss to Los Angeles.
Analysis: Of course the circumstance of double overtime was the main factor in Derek Dorsett logging a season-high in minutes. The 6-foot scraper also logged two shots on goal and a plus-1 in 28 shifts. The fourth line winger has just one point and 19 penalty minutes through 20 games this post season.

Rangers Scratch Dorsett In Game 3

News: Derek Dorsett was a healthy scratch for Monday's Game 3 loss to the Penguins.
Analysis: The Rangers were looking for a more offensive look with J.T. Miller and Jesper Fast in place of Derek Dorsett and Dan Carcillo. Dorsett has zero points and just seven shots on goal in nine playoff games this year, and in fact has only one career postseason point (an assist) in 23 contests.

Rangers' Dorsett Slumping

News: Derek Dorsett has been shut out through four postseason games against the Flyers.
Analysis: With 20 points being his most productive season to date, there's not a lot of surprise here. It's the four penalty minutes for a checking-line winger - in what has been a feisty series - that has to leave you scratching your head. Then again, the veteran right winger is averaging under 10 minutes a game and has never really been a big fantasy play outside of those leagues that reward hits and penalty minutes.

Rangers' Dorsett Taking Warm-Ups

News: Derek Dorsett (illness) will participate in pregame warm-ups Monday night, Katie Strang of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Derek Dorsett is still officially a game-time decision, but it's a good sign that he's on the ice for warm-ups. The winger has three goals, two assists, and 105 PIM in 41 games on the season.

Rangers' Dorsett Scratched Against Bruins

News: Derek Dorsett will serve as a healthy scratch on Sunday versus the Bruins, reports Andrew Gross of The Bergen Record.
Analysis: The 27-year-old, who returned to the lineup from a leg injury on Saturday registered a minus-1 rating in just under nine minutes of time against Philadelphia. In addition to not wanting to start his scrappy winger on back-to-back nights, head coach Alain Vigneault said he wants to give Derek Dorsett a chance to get his timing back.

Rangers' Dorsett Returns To Ice Saturday

News: Derek Dorsett will make his return to the ice Saturday against the Flyers after an 18-game absence, Jim Cerny of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Derek Dorsett had been out with a lower-leg injury and was actually expected to return Thursday. The Rangers held him out for one more game just to be sure. He's probably good to get back into your lineups this week.

Rangers' Dorsett Out For Thursday

News: Derek Dorsett (lower leg) will not play Thursday against the Blackhawks, Newsday's Steve Zipay reports.
Analysis: Derek Dorsett has been skating for the last week since suffering a broken leg Jan. 3, but coach Alain Vigneault doesn't want to bring him back into the fold just yet with the team's bottom-six forwards playing well. Vigneault wants Dorsett to get in one more full practice, after which he'll likely be activated and slot back into the lineup.

Rangers' Dorsett Progressing

News: Derek Dorsett (fibula) went through contact during Tuesday's practice, Andrew Gross of The Record reports.
Analysis: Derek Dorsett is hoping to play Thursday against Chicago, but that's no lock just yet, with coach Alain Vigneault indicating that recalling a forward from AHL Hartford in advance of that contest is still a possibility.

Rangers' Dorsett Dons Contact Jersey Monday

News: Derek Dorsett (lower leg) was wearing a full-contact jersey during Monday's practice, Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: It's yet another positive sign that Derek Dorsett will be available for the Rangers' first game out of the break Thursday vs. the Blackhawks. Coach Alain Vigneault said the Rangers would officially declare his status for Thursday following Tuesday's practice.

Rangers' Dorsett Back On Ice Thursday

News: Derek Dorsett practiced in a non-contact capacity Thursday, Steve Zipay of Newsday reports.
Analysis: It was the first time Derek Dorsett was able to join his teammates on the ice since breaking his fibula in early January, so he'll probably still need to practice on multiple occasions before being activated from IR. It would appear he's progressing as the Rangers expected, and coach Alain Vigneault said Dorsett "should be close, if not ready to play" next Thursday against the Blackhawks.

Rangers' Dorsett Out 4-6 Weeks With Broken Fibula

News: Derek Dorsett will be out for four to six weeks with a broken fibula, according to Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record.
Analysis: Derek Dorsett suffered the injury while blocking a a slap shot by Pittsburgh's Ollie Maatta in the first period of Friday's game and, obviously, never returned. He's a role player whose biggest fantasy asset is his current tally of 103 penalty minutes, so owners will have to find another enforcer to help them out for the time being. The Rangers will likely place Dorsett on injured reserve Saturday and make a corresponding move then.

Rangers' Dorsett Will Play Tuesday

News: Derek Dorsett (wrist) will play Tuesday against the Predators, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.
Analysis: Derek Dorsett checked out fine during morning skate and will draw back into the lineup for the first time in three games. He'll be ticketed for fourth-line duty and won't see enough ice time to be a useful contributor in most fantasy leagues.

Rangers' Dorsett Returns To Practice Tuesday

News: Derek Dorsett (wrist) was on the ice for Tuesday's morning skate, ESPN.com's Katie Strang reports.
Analysis: No word yet on whether or not Derek Dorsett will actually play Tuesday vs. the Predators, but his presence back on the ice would seem to bode well for his return. He's missed the previous three games due to injury.

Rangers' Dorsett Will Not Play Sunday

News: Derek Dorsett (wrist) will not play Sunday against the Capitals.

News: Derek Dorsett (wrist) did not take part in the Rangers' morning skate Saturday, Jim Cerny of Rangers.com reports.
Analysis: Derek Dorsett has been dealining with a lingering wrist injury for some time right now and missed Thursday's game. He should still be considered day-to-day as he still played in two games earlier in the week despite the issue.

Rangers To Sit Dorsett On Friday

News: Derek Dorsett (wrist) will not play Friday against the Bruins, Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: While Derek Dorsett was on the ice for warmups, coach Alain Vigneault ended up going with the healthier skater in Taylor Pyatt to fill out his fourth line. In any case, Dorsett appears to be very close to returning to action and could be a possibility for Saturday's game vs. the Canucks.

Rangers' Dorsett a Game-Time Decision Again

News: Derek Dorsett (wrist) will be a game-time decision for Friday's game against the Bruins, Newsday's Steve Zipay reports.
Analysis: The wrist injury prevented Derek Dorsett from playing in the Rangers' last game Wednesday, and it could cost him a second straight contest. If Dorsett is unable to play Friday afternoon, Taylor Pyatt will get the nod in his place.

News: Derek Dorsett will be a game-time decision for Wednesday's game against the Panthers due to a sore left wrist, Andrew Gross of The Record reports.
Analysis: Those that count on Derek Dorsett for his penalty minutes -- he has a league-leading 92 PIM -- will want to pay attention to his status Wednesday night. If Dorsett is unable to go, Taylor Pyatt would enter the lineup in his place.
