Wild Sign Falk To One-Year Deal

News: Justin Falk signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Wild on Friday, NHL.com reports.
Analysis: The 25-year-old was a fourth-round pick of the Wild in 2007 and appeared in 108 regular season games for the franchise. He spent last season with the Rangers, registering two assists and 20 penalty minutes in 21 contests.

Rangers Will Not Qualify Falk

News: The Rangers are expected to pass on qualifying Justin Falk, reports Larry Brooks of the New York Post. He would become an unrestricted free agent.
Analysis: He is owed $1.025 million on his qualifying offer, but played just once in 2014.

Rangers' Falk Along for Ride

News: Justin Falk has not dressed for game action in nearly two months.
Analysis: The last time the 25-year-old Manitoba native suited up was April 12 against Montreal. Even with third-line defenseman John Moore suspended, Raphael Diaz got the nod from head coach Alain Vigneault to play in the game six against Montreal. Formerly Minnesota's fourth-round selection in 2007, Justin Falk posted two points (both assists) and a minus-5 rating in 21 regular season games with the blueshirts and will not likely be called upon unless there's a dire need for help on the blue line.

Falk Remains Rangers' Healthy Scratch

News: Justin Falk served as a healthy scratch in Thursday's game one win over Philadelphia.
Analysis: Not a big surprise here, as Justin Falk has been the odd man out for most of the season. With the recently acquired Raphael Diaz ahead of him on the depth chart, unless multiple defensemen fall prey to an injury it seems very likely Falk will have to watch his team's playoff run from the press box.

Rangers' Falk: Watching Season From Press Box

News: Justin Falk has not dressed for the Rangers since Dec. 29, as he's served as a healthy scratch over the last two-plus months.
Analysis: Justin Falk has never been considered an attractive fantasy option, and this news only underscores how low his value is. After he rejected head coach Alain Vigneault's offer to play more consistently with AHL Hartford, last week's acquisition of Raphael Diaz almost suggests Falk won't soon have a choice. The 25-year-old defenseman is minus-5 with two assists and 20 penalty minutes through 20 games played this season.

Rangers' Falk Merely A Spectator

News: Head coach Alain Vigneault will stick with the same lineup Thursday against Edmonton, leaving Justin Falk as a healthy scratch again, Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: This should be no surprise and ultimately have very little impact on the fantasy world. Justin Falk, who has not dressed in a game since Dec. 29, is merely a depth defenseman who can provide grit and toughness in case of an injury to one of the team's top-six blueliners.

Rangers' Falk To Be Scratched Tuesday

News: Justin Falk will watch Tuesday's tilt against the Panthers from the press box, reports Andrew Gross of The Record.
Analysis: With Anton Stralman (wrist) and Marc Staal (concussion) returning to the lineup, someone had to sit. While Justin Falk and Michael Del Zotto are the odd men odd out Tuesday, inconsistent play has left head coach Alain Vigneault juggling lines all season. Outside of the occasional penalty, Falk has very little upside and should be left off nearly every standard fantasy roster.

Rangers' Falk Healthy Scratched Thursday

News: Justin Falk will not be in the lineup Thursday against the Sabres.
Analysis: John Moore will check in for Justin Falk on the Rangers blue line, as Falk will watch from the press box for the fourth time in the last five games.

Rangers' Falk To Suit Up Wednesday

News: Justin Falk will play in Wednesday's game against the Lightning, Andrew Gross of The Record reports.
Analysis: Justin Falk has been a healthy scratch the last three games, but he will get the nod in place of Michael Del Zotto on Wednesday, with the purpose of adding "bite" to the defensive corps, according to head coach Alain Vigneault.

Rangers' Falk To Suit Up Tuesday

News: Justin Falk will suit in Tuesday's tilt against the Bruins, reports Steve Zipay of Newsday.
Analysis: It's Justin Falk's third straight game in the lineup, as head coach Alain Vigneault is clearly trying to send a message to Michael Del Zotto. Falk is a minus-1 with 11 PIM in five games thus far, so he has very little fantasy appeal.

Falk Active In Rangers' Loss

News: Justin Falk logged nearly 16 minutes of ice time on Saturday, collecting two penalty minutes, going minus-1 and tying for the team high with four hits in a 4-0 loss to New Jersey.
Analysis: Justin Falk broke into the lineup earlier in the week when Michael Del Zotto came down with the flu, but Del Zotto was officially listed as a healthy scratch for the Devils game. Although Falk has a propensity for giveaways, he's racking up the penalty minutes, which may or may not bode well for his continued presence in the Rangers' lineup. Head coach Alain Vigneault is likely to plug MDZ back in the lineup next week. Although Falk could dress as a seventh defensemen, he'll likely only dress again if Del Zotto (minus-6, no points) continues to struggle offensively.

Rangers' Falk Will Play Wednesday

News: Justin Falk will be in the lineup Wednesday against the Capitals, Steve Zipay of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Fellow blueliner Michael Del Zotto is sidelined with the flu, so Justin Falk will be inserted in the lineup for his second start of the season. He played in 36 games last year with the Wild, recording three assists and zero goals.

Falk Makes Debut With Rangers

News: Justin Falk had four penalty minutes and a shot on goal in Saturday's 5-3 loss to St. Louis
Analysis: After signing as a free agent this past summer, Justin Falk's first appearance came five games into the season. Unless a major injury occurs to the Rangers blue line, the newly turned 25-year-old isn't likely to crack the line up often this season. Even then, Falk has limited upside having never eclipsed the 30-point mark in any professional hockey league.

Falk Tabbed As Rangers' Seventh Defenseman

News: Justin Falk was named to the team's Opening Night roster, Jim Cerny of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Nothing to see here, as at no point were the reports from training camp good about the 24-year-old offseason signing. For now, he's with the big club, but pipeline happenings could change that. Either way, Justin Falk is not likely to dress on most nights. He's totaled one goal, 14 assists and 100 penalty minutes in 108 career NHL games.

Rangers Ink Falk

News: The Rangers signed Justin Falk to a one-year, $975,000 contract Wednesday, Katie Strang of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Justin Falk was expected to file for salary arbitration, but the Rangers were able to ink him just before the deadline Wednesday. The blueliner recorded three assists and 40 PIMs in 36 games with the Wild last season.

Rangers' Falk Expected To File For Arbitration

News: Justin Falk is expected to file for arbitration, Katie Strang of ESPN reports.
Analysis: The defenseman came over to the Rangers this summer in a trade that sent Benn Ferriero to the Wild, but his relationship with his new team will be tested immediately as they head to arbitration.

Falk Traded To Rangers

News: Justin Falk was traded from the Wild to the Rangers on Sunday in exchange for Benn Ferriero and a future sixth-round draft pick, TSN's James Mirtle reports.
Analysis: Justin Falk and Ferriero are both borderline NHL types, so the Rangers are likely just looking for some defensive depth with this trade. Falk has just one goal in 108 career games and scored three points and racked up 40 penalty minutes in 36 games last season.

Wild's Falk Filling In For Clayton Stoner

News: Justin Falk will take Clayton Stoner's spot in the lineup Friday against the Blackhawks, Brian Hedger of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Stoner is out for Game 2 with an undisclosed injury, so it will be Justin Falk taking over his spot. Falk could see time against the Blackhawks' third and forth lines to give the Wild some toughness on the ice.

Wild's Falk Expected To Play Tuesday

News: Justin Falk (illness) is expected to play Tuesday against the Wild, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Justin Falk has been out sick the last few games, but is slated to join Tom Gilbert as a defensive pair. He's charted one point and a minus-3 rating through 14 contests.

Wild's Falk (Illness) Out Sunday

News: Justin Falk (illness) will not play Sunday against the Red Wings, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Justin Falk will sit against Detroit, as expected, after missing Sunday's morning skate. Chances are he'll fight the illness off in time to play Thursday, but consider Falk day-to-day for now.

Wild's Falk (Illness) Likely Out For Sunday

News: Justin Falk (illness) missed the team's morning practice and is expected to sit out Sunday's game against the Red Wings, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Justin Falk is dealing with an illness and was reportedly too sick to practice Sunday morning, which does not bode well for his chances of playing against the Red Wings. Check back closer to game time to confirm his status, but expect him to sit.

Wild's Falk Could Sit Sunday

News: Justin Falk missed practice Saturday with an illness, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: He's day-to-day heading into Sunday's tilt with Detroit, but it's expected that Nate Prosser will replace him in the lineup anyway after Justin Falk struggled against Colorado on Thursday night.

Wild Re-Sign Falk

News: Justin Falk agreed to a one-year, $825,000 contract with the Wild, avoiding arbitration, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: Justin Falk is the leading candidate to win the seventh defenseman spot on the Wild roster this fall.

Two Assists For Wild's Falk

News: Justin Falk increased his 2011-2012 points total to 9 Saturday night with a pair of assists in a shootout win over the visiting Kings.
Analysis: It would appear as though the leg injury that sidelined the 23 year-old for most of March is hampering him no longer. Still, Justin Falk is of no fantasy consequence until he steps up either his points production or his propensity toward fisticuffs.

Falk Active For Minnesota

News: Justin Falk (leg) will play against Florida on Thursday, Wild.com reports.
Analysis: Justin Falk's return pushes Kurtis Foster back to the bench. His seven points on the year indicate that he's unlikely to make a fantasy impact, in any case.
