Coyotes' Gagner Adds Two Helpers

News: Sam Gagner picked up a pair of helpers in Friday's 5-0 win over the Canucks.
Analysis: Sam Gagner has struggled to find his way in his first season away from Edmonton, as the two assists brought his point total to just six in 17 games this year. In six full seasons after turning in an impressive 49-point rookie campaign in 2007-08, Gagner has failed to reach that mark again, so it's probably safe to count on him being somewhere in the 30- to 40-point range with Arizona this year, with anything beyond that coming as a bonus.

Coyotes' Gagner Scores Monday

News: Sam Gagner scored his second goal Monday in a win over the Leafs. He took three shots and had two hits.
Analysis: Sam Gagner scored for the second consecutive game and now has points in four of his last six after not registering a point in the first six games of the season. He's still seeing a healthy dose of ice time with the man advantage (2:43 on average), but his total ice time is down nearly two minutes from last year's 18:23 -- on Tuesday, he skated just 14:48. That's third-line ice time, so this bears watching.

Coyotes' Gagner Pots First Of Season

News: Sam Gagner put his team ahead for good with his third period goal in a 6-5 win over the Capitals on Sunday.
Analysis: The goal was his first of the season to go along with two assists. The potential is there, and he's hovered in the 40-50 point range in every season of his career, but so far the production hasn't been.

Coyotes' Gagner On Score Sheet In Second Straight

News: Sam Gagner picked up an assist Tuesday in a loss to the Lightning. He had two shots and two hits in 16:42 of ice time.
Analysis: It was his second straight game with an assist after not producing any points in his first five games with Arizona. He continues to man a wing on the Coyotes' second line with Martin Hanzal and Shane Doan.

Coyotes' Gagner Picks Up First Point

News: Sam Gagner picked up an assist Saturday against Florida for his first point as a Coyote. He was minus-1 and added one shot in 19:24 of ice time.
Analysis: Sam Gagner was expected to pick up some of the offensive slack left by the departures of Mike Ribeiro and Radim Vrbata, but that hasn't worked out so far. If this gets him going, he could still be a useful fantasy player the rest of the year.

Coyotes' Gagner Still Without Point

News: Sam Gagner was held off the scoresheet and was minus-2 Thursday in a loss to Minnesota. He put one shot on net in 17:34 of ice time.
Analysis: Sam Gagner has yet to register a point with the Coyotes. His track record suggests that the points will come soon, but he could soon endanger his playing time if his slump continues.

Coyotes' Gagner Starting Slowly

News: Sam Gagner has held without a point in 16:28 of ice time Wednesday in a win over his old Oilers mates. He took only one shot and had three hits.
Analysis: Sam Gagner has yet to register a point in three contests with Arizona, which certainly qualifies as a disappointing start. The Coyotes are counting on him to replace the production of Mike Ribeiro, who left in the offseason after only one year in the desert. Gagner is getting plenty of opportunity to do so, including leading Coyotes forwards in power-play ice time Wednesday (3:21). With opportunities like that, he should get it going soon.

Coyotes' Gagner Could Play Wing

News: Sam Gagner's position to start the season is up in the air as Coah Dave Tippett is considering playing him on the wing, according to Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic.
Analysis: Playing the wing shouldn't affect Sam Gagner's fantasy potential, except possibly expanding his position eligibility. The Coyotes' are counting on him to be a big part of the offence regardless and fantasy owners hope he will realize his potential after years of teasing it.

Coyotes' Gagner (Upper Body) Will Play Friday

News: Sam Gagner will play against the Sharks on Friday, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Sam Gagner was expected to suit up for Friday's contest, and now that suspicion has been confirmed. With that news, he shouldn't miss any regular season time due to the injury. Gagner is set to play on the line with Martin Hanzal and Martin Erat for the finale.

Coyotes' Gagner Expected To Play Friday

News: Sam Gagner (undisclosed) is expected to play in Friday's preseason finale against the Sharks, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Sam Gagner bolstered his chances of playing Friday by taking part in Thursday's practice. Even if he doesn't end up suiting up in the final exhibition, Gagner should be over the undisclosed issue before the regular season kicks off next week.

Coyotes' Gagner Uncertain For Wednesday

News: Sam Gagner's (upper body) status for Wednesday's preseason game against Edmonton is unclear, according to Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic.
Analysis: Sam Gagner's injury was previously undisclosed. The severity remains unclear, but he is day-to-day for now.

Coyotes Try Out Gagner At Wing

News: Sam Gagner (undisclosed) began practicing at right wing Sunday, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Coach Dave Tippett is merely experimenting to see where Sam Gagner -- who played center, his natural position, for the first week of camp -- fits best with his new team. Gagner was held out of Monday's preseason game vs. the Canucks as a precaution after he was banged up in last Friday's contest, but he should return to the ice for the remainder of the Coyotes' exhibition schedule.

Bolts Flip Gagner To Coyotes

News: Just hours after Sam Gagner was acquired from the Oilers, the Lightning shipped him along with forward B.J. Crombeen to the Coyotes for a 2015 sixth-round draft pick, ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The Bolts will be responsible for covering one-third of the remainder of Sam Gagner's salary, but still create more cap space for themselves in the deal, while giving the 24-year-old forward a more permanent landing spot. Gagner, who produced 10 goals and 27 assists last season for a rudderless Oilers squad, will be tasked with filling a top-six role with Arizona, as a de facto replacement at center for the bought-out Mike Ribeiro.

Tampa Bay Deals For Gagner

News: The Oilers have traded Sam Gagner to the Lightning for Teddy Purcell, NHL.com reports.
Analysis: After missing the first 13 games of the 2013-14 season while recovering from a broken jaw, the 24-year-old Sam Gagner -- the No. 6 overall pick in the 2007 Entry Draft -- recorded 10 goals and 27 assists in 67 games for the Oilers. It looks like he'll get a fresh start with the Lightning, while improving the team's depth up front in the process.

Oilers' Gagner Pots Game-Winner Friday

News: Sam Gagner scored his 10th goal of the season late in the third period to tie the game and then scored during the shootout to lead the Oilers past the Coyotes 3-2 on Friday.
Analysis: It was quite the end of the night for Sam Gagner, who was relatively quiet until the very end. He scored the game-tying goal with just 41 seconds remaining in the game and then was the only one to find the net during the shootout. He had been held without a point in his three previous games, but Friday's goal now gives the defensive-minded center 35 points on the year.

Oilers' Gagner Lights The Lamp Friday

News: Sam Gagner scored his ninth goal of the season as the Oilers' beat the Ducks 4-3 in overtime Friday.
Analysis: Sam Gagner had missed the last two days of practice with an ankle injury but got right down to business with an early first period goal to negate the quick lead the Ducks jumped out to just 35 seconds into the game. He's got two goals and one assist over his last five games giving him a total of 34 points in 60 games this season. The minus-25 rating could certainly use some help though.

Oilers' Gagner Expected To Play Friday

News: Sam Gagner (ankle) is expected to play Friday versus the Ducks, according to the Oilers' official site.
Analysis: There was some thought that Sam Gagner may have reinjured his ankle after missing practice Wednesday and Thursday, but apparently those were just maintenance days to allow the ankle to heal and he won't miss any playing time.

Oilers' Gagner Skips Practice Again

News: Sam Gagner (undisclosed) missed practice again Thursday.
Analysis: Sam Gagner's absence from Wednesday's practice was believed to be for maintenance purposes more than anything, but now that he's been out two days in a row, it's possible an aggravated ankle injury could be at play. We probably won't find out his status for Friday's game against the Ducks until after morning skate.

Oilers' Gagner Tallies Assist, Goal In Win

News: Sam Gagner registered a goal and assist in Tuesday's win over the Predators.
Analysis: Aside from being held scoreless in his previous two games, Sam Gagner has come out of the gate strong in March, scoring in each of his other six games this month. He's compiled two goals and seven assists during that time, but only has a plus-1 rating to show for it.

Oilers' Gagner Returns To Lineup

News: Sam Gagner (ankle) played over 20 minutes in his return to the lineup Sunday.

Oilers' Gagner To Go Through Warmups Sunday

News: Sam Gagner (ankle) will take part in warmups prior to Sunday's game against the Hurricanes.
Analysis: If Sam Gagner makes it through warmups without issue, he'll presumably get the green light to play against Carolina, but Philip Larsen will slot into the rotation if the team decides to hold Gagner out for another game. He played through the ankle injury Thursday but sat out Friday's tilt.

Oilers' Gagner Will Sit Friday

News: Sam Gagner (ankle) won't play Friday vs. the Red Wings.
Analysis: Sam Gagner came into Thursday's game vs. the Blues nursing the ankle injury, so it's unclear if he aggravated the injury during the contest or if coach Dallas Eakins simply didn't want him playing back-to-back nights. Whatever the case may be, we should know before Sunday's game against the Hurricanes whether or not Gagner will be available. Anton Lander takes his place as the second-line center Friday night.

Oilers' Gagner Playing Thursday

News: Sam Gagner (ankle) will play in Thursday's game against the Blues.
Analysis: Sam Gagner missed Wednesday's practice but is apparently ready for Thursday's game. With seven points (one goal) through five March games, he's in the midst of his most productive stretch this season.
