Flames' Hiller Makes 14 Stops In Relief

News: Jonas Hiller stopped 14 of 15 shots in relief of Joni Ortio Wednesday in a 6-3 loss to the Ducks.
Analysis: Jonas Hiller hadn't played in four games, as Ortio was Playing well before Wednesday. It'll be interesting to see who gets the first start after the All-Star Break, but Hiller needs to improve his play to warrant consideration for full-time starter in Calgary.

Flames' Hiller Surrenders Six In Defeat

News: Jonas Hiller ended up on the wrong side of a goal-fest Friday, dropping a 6-5 decision to the visiting Panthers.
Analysis: This wasn't a very pretty performance for the Swiss netminder, who coughed up the lead on three separate occasions before Tomas Fleischmann hammered the final nail in the coffin with 3:09 remaining. After rattling off four straight wins in late December, Jonas Hiller has dropped three straight decisions -- allowing 10 goals on 58 shots during that span -- and should probably be used sparingly given his recent inconsistency.

Flames Turn To Hiller For Friday's Game

News: Jonas Hiller will receive the start in goal Friday against the Panthers, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: It's possible the Flames could turn to Jonas Hiller for both ends of their weekend back-to-back, as backup Karri Ramo suffered an upper-body injury Wednesday that will keep him out through at least next week. The Flames will cross that bridge when it comes, but for Friday's slate, Hiller looks like he could be a worthy lineup choice, as he'll be facing a presumably fatigued Panthers squad finishing off the second half of a back-to-back set. Moreover, the Panthers don't exactly light it up offensively, as they rank just 26th in goals per game and ice the league's third-worst power play.

Flames' Hiller Mediocre In Relief Wednesday

News: Jonas Hiller was unimpressive in relief of Kari Ramo on Wednesday, giving up two goals on just nine shots in a 3-2 loss to Detroit.
Analysis: Ramo left the game at the midway point of the second period after being run into, forcing Jonas Hiller into the game. Hiller had started the last 10 games for the Flames and was set to enjoy a night off, but was thrust into action unexpectedly, and his poor performance certainly reflected that. Look for him to bounce back in his next start, likely on Friday against the Panthers.

Winning Streak Ends For Flames' Hiller

News: Jonas Hiller surrendered two goals on 24 shots in Friday's loss to the Islanders.
Analysis: While Jonas Hiller saw his three-game losing streak come to an end, he can hold his head high after turning in another quality effort to keep the Flames competitive. He's still sporting a winning record for the season (13-11-2), and his respectable ratios (2.30 GAA, .917 save percentage) should allow him to maintain the top perch on the Flames' goalie depth chart.

Flames To Start Hiller

News: Jonas Hiller will get the start in net Friday against the Islanders, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 reports.
Analysis: Jonas Hiller has been on a roll as of late along with the Flames as a whole, winning his last three contests. The Islanders are a tough opponent, but Hiller's hot play of late may make it worthwhile to roll him.

Flames' Hiller Picks Up Win

News: Jonas Hiller stopped 17 of 20 shots for a victory in Wednesday's 4-3 overtime win against Edmonton.
Analysis: Jonas Hiller wasn't at his best, but his offense bailed him out. He now has three wins in a row, allowing only five goals in the process, and is getting back to fantasy relevance. He's 13-10-2 on the year with a 2.31 goals against average.

Flames' Hiller To Start Wednesday

News: Jonas Hiller will man the net Wednesday versus the Oilers, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: With wins in three straight games on the heels of a long losing streak, Jonas Hiller will unsurprisingly get the nod for the Flames again. He's been especially stellar in his last two turns, holding the Oilers and Kings to one goal apiece on identical 26-save outings. He'll be a strong play again versus Edmonton, the league's worst team.

Flames' Hiller Wins Third Straight

News: Jonas Hiller allowed just a single goal on 27 shots as the Flames defeated the Kings 2-1 on Monday.
Analysis: That's the third win in a row and second triumph over the Kings in the last week for Jonas Hiller, who is now 12-10-2 with a 2.29 GAA and .919 save percentage this season. He's leaps and bounds ahead of Karri Ramo as the Flames' No. 1 backstopper and makes for a solid No. 2 fantasy goalie as long as the boys in Cow Town are playing well in front of him.

Flames Roll With Hiller Monday

News: Jonas Hiller will start in goal for Monday's game against the Kings, Randy Sportak of the Calgary Sun reports.
Analysis: Jonas Hiller set aside 26 of the 27 shots he faced in Saturday's game against the Oilers en route to his 11th win of the season. He now carries a 2.34 GAA and .917 save percentage into Monday's contest.

Flames To Go With Hiller On Saturday

News: Jonas Hiller will draw the starting nod Saturday versus the Oilers, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Analysis: Jonas Hiller helped the Flames enter their Christmas break on a high note, ending a personal seven-game losing streak and a skid of the eight games for the team. While wins have been hard to come by with the Calgary offense has sputtered, Hiller has been rather dependable in goal of late, turning in save percentages above .900 in his last five outings. Expect his successes to continue against the Oilers, who may be the only team that has struggled more than the Flames lately.

Flames' Hiller Victorious In OT

News: Jonas Hiller stopped 31 of 34 saves en route to a 4-3 OT win over the Kings on Monday.
Analysis: Jonas Hiller was perfect for the second half of the game, as all three goals came within the first 25 minutes of regulation. He and the Flames were bailed out by flashy rookie Johnny Gaudreau, who put the team on his back by scoring all three goals in regulation to send the game to overtime. In 23 appearances this year, Hiller has posted a 10-10-2 record to go with a 2.40 GAA and .915 save percentage, although only one of those wins have come in the last eight games.

Flames' Hiller To Start Monday

News: Jonas Hiller will start in net Monday against the Kings, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 the FAN reports.
Analysis: An earlier report indicated Karri Ramo would receive the start in net, but it looks as though Jonas Hiller will actually be in net. He stopped 30 of the 32 shots he faced in his last start Saturday, and has now lost seven straight games. He will look to turn things around in his last start before the three-day holiday break.

Hiller Helps Flames Nab A Point Saturday

News: Jonas Hiller helped Calgary grab a point Saturday, stopping 30 of 32 shots in an overtime loss to Vancouver.
Analysis: While Jonas Hiller has now lost seven straight games, the 32-year-old has allowed only two goals in each of his past four outings. The Flames offense arguably sabotaged him even more than normal Saturday night, as his teammates, Dennis Wideman and Mason Raymond, accidentally scored an own-goal on an ill-fated pass when Hiller left the ice during a power-play opportunity. Considering Karri Ramo is struggling, losing three straight games and surrendering 11 goals in that span, Hiller could see some more starts in the near future. The former Duck is 9-10-2 on the season with a .915 save percentage and 2.38 GAA. The Flames may be struggling to get wins, but Hiller's strong play Saturday suggests that might turn around soon.

Flames To Start Hiller Saturday

News: Jonas Hiller will get the start in net Saturday, Scott Cruickshank of the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: Jonas Hiller and the Flames have hit the skids in December, as Calgary has lost seven straight and Hiller has lost six in a row. Until they right the ship, Hiller should be avoided, especially with his mates giving him a grand total of four goals combined in his last four outings.

Flames' Hiller Takes Loss Friday

News: Jonas Hiller took the loss Friday, stopping 19 of 21 shots as the Flames fell 2-1 to the Stars.
Analysis: Jonas Hiller has started five of the last six games for the Flames, failing to record a single victory during that time. The Flames have been in a tailspin of late, losing their last seven games in a row, so owners may want to keep Hiller and fellow Flames goalie Karri Ramo stapled to their bench until they figure out how to get back in the win column.

Flames Rolling With Hiller On Friday

News: Jonas Hiller will receive the start in goal Friday against the Stars.
Analysis: With Karri Ramo absent from Thursday's practice due to an illness and uncertain to be availalbe Friday, it was an easy decision for coach Bob Hartley to tap Jonas Hiller for his third start in four games. While Hiller has been unable to snap a losing streak for the Flames that now sits at six games, he's at least outperformed the struggling Ramo recently, stopping a respectable 91.8 percent of the shots he's faced over his last four appearances. The Flames will play their second game of a back-to-back set Saturday, but if Ramo's not healthy by then, look for Hiller to get the call again.

Flames' Hiller Solid In Loss

News: Jonas Hiller stopped 26 of 28 shots in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Jonas Hiller has now lost five straight, but he's only been given three goals of offensive production from his mates in the last three combined. The loss drops him to 9-9-1, but he's been given the nod in net three of the last four games over Kari Ramo. The 32-year-old sports a 2.48 GAA and save percentage of .913.

Flames Start Hiller

News: Jonas Hiller will start in net against the Blackhawks on Sunday, Derek Willis of Sportsnet 960 the FAN reports.
Analysis: Jonas Hiller allowed three goals on 22 shots Friday against the Penguins, but will receive the start again Sunday. He has fallen behind Karri Ramo for the starting gig, but will inexplicably receive a second straight start despite the poor performance Friday. Hiller will carry a 2.50 GAA and .912 save percentage into the matchup.

Flames' Hiller Gives Up Three In Loss

News: Jonas Hiller gave up three goals on 22 shots in Friday's loss to the Penguins.
Analysis: It was the fourth straight loss for Jonas Hiller, who drops to 9-8-1 on the season. While both Hiller and Karri Ramo have struggled to win games lately, Rammo has arguably been the better goaltender this season. The two will likely continue to split starting duties, as the Flames are in the playoff picture, sitting seventh in the Western Conference. With a 9.12 save percentage and 2.50 GAA, Hiller presents a decent, but not spectacular, fantasy option in the Flames' crease.

Flames To Start Hiller Friday

News: Jonas Hiller will start in net against the Penguins on Friday, Derek Willis of Sportsnet 960 the FAN reports.
Analysis: Jonas Hiller has fallen behind Karri Ramo for the Flames' primary goaltending duties, but was solid in his last outing against Toronto, saving 25 of the 27 shots he faced. Ramo will receive the start Thursday against Buffalo, leaving Hiller to grab the back end of back-to-back games against a high-powered Penguins team.

Hiller Solid, But Flames Fall To Leafs

News: Jonas Hiller saved 25 of 27 shots Tuesday in Toronto, but was stuck with a 4-1 loss thanks to two empty-net goals.
Analysis: Jonathan Bernier was masterful on the other end, leaving Jonas Hiller with his third consecutive defeat despite a solid night. Of course, it was also his first start since Nov. 25, as Karri Ramo has largely taken over primary goaltending duties for the Flames.

Flames' Hiller Will Start Tuesday

News: Jonas Hiller will start Tuesday's game against the Maple Leafs, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet reports.
Analysis: Jonas Hiller hasn't made an appearance since Nov. 25, and recorded losses in each of his last two starts. He'll need to play well Tuesday if he wants to make up some ground on Karri Ramo, who appears to have taken hold of the starting job at this point.

Flames' Hiller Riding The Pine

News: Jonas Hiller has not started the previous four games and is unlikely to start Saturday's matchup with the Sharks, the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: Jonas Hiller got off to a blazing start to the season but cooled down in November, giving up at least three goals in his previous seven games. Karri Ramo has won his last six appearances, so Hiller is now the backup for all intents and purposes.

Jonas Hiller

Hiller, Flames Doused By Ducks

News: Jonas Hiller allowed three goals on 29 shots in Tuesday's loss to the Ducks.
Analysis: Jonas Hiller's forceful stat correction continues -- he's given up three or four goals in seven consecutive starts, a stretch that's pushed his GAA and save percentage right into line with last year's production.
