Flames' Hiller Shuts Out Avs

News: Jonas Hiller faced 28 shots and stopped them all Tuesday in a 2-0 preseason victory against the Avalanche.
Analysis: Jonas Hiller played well on Tuesday and likely has an inside track to the No. 1 goalie position, although it should be a timeshare with Karri Ramo to begin the 2014-15 campaign. The Flames should improve this season, but it may not be enough to boost Hiller as a major fantasy player.

Flames' Hiller: Fully Recovered From Appendicitis

News: GM Brad Treliving said Jonas Hiller is "100 percent" recovered from the appendicitis attack that sidelined him in July, NHL.com reports.
Analysis: The incident prevented Jonas Hiller from working out for about three weeks, but he's since returned to the ice to resume his usual pre-camp routine in his native Switzerland. Hiller, 32, is the heavy favorite to serve as the Flames' No. 1 goalie this season after inking a two-year contract with Calgary on the first day of free agency.

Flames' Hiller Undergoes Appendectomy

News: Jonas Hiller underwent a minor procedure to address appendicitis and is expected to make a quick recovery, Wes Gilbertson of the Calgary Sun reports.
Analysis: Jonas Hiller, who agreed to a two-year, $9 million contract at the beginning of the month, should make a full recovery well before the beginning of training camp. He can still be expected to compete against Karri Ramo for playing time between the pipes.

Hiller Signs With Flames

News: The Flames have signed Jonas Hiller to a two-year, $9 million contract, CBC.ca reports.
Analysis: Jonas Hiller, who recorded a 29-13-7 record with a 2.48 GAA and .911 save percentage with five shutouts for the Ducks this past season, figures to be given a chance to beat out Karri Ramo for the starting role in Calgary next year.

Ducks Don't Plan To Bring Back Hiller

News: The Ducks have informed Jonas Hiller that he won't be offered a new contract this offseason, Greg Beacham of the Associated Press reports.
Analysis: The Ducks have two outstanding young goalies in Frederik Andersen and John Gibson, and appear comfortable proceeding with either as their long-term solution in the net. Jonas Hiller saw minimal action in the postseason as a result of Gibson's emergence, but he put together a respectable regular season, posting a 29-13-7, 2.48 GAA and .911 save percentage. He'll likely receive interest from lesser teams than the Ducks to serve as their No. 1 goalie, but will probably notice a steep drop-off in his win total.

Hiller Allows Two As Ducks Fall Short

News: Jonas Hiller stopeed 10 of 12 shots on goal after entering with 17:58 left in the second period of a 6-2 defeat at the hands of the Kings in Game 7 on Friday.
Analysis: After an up-and-down season, it appears that Jonas Hiller might have a goalie competion with teammates Frederik Andersen and John Gibson for the starting position when next year begins.

Ducks May Stick With Hiller

News: Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register suggests that Jonas Hiller is on track to start Thursday's Game 3 against the Kings.
Analysis: Stephens relays that Jonas Hiller was the first goalie off the ice Thursday morning, though he noted that confirmation of the Ducks' Game 3 starter in net may not come until warmups.

Ducks' Hiller Stops Seven In Game 4 Victory

News: Jonas Hiller stopped seven of eight shots on goal after entering the with 9:58 left in the third period of a 3-1 win over the Kings on Thursday.
Analysis: While his save percentage of .875 could have been better, teammate Frederik Andersen's leg injury should ensure that Jonas Hiller starts in net for Game 4 of the series.

Ducks' Hiller Allows Two In Defeat

News: HIller stopped 14 of 16 shots on goal during a 3-1 loss to the Kings on Monday.
Analysis: Although his save percentage of .875 was nothing special, it should be mentioned that one of his two goals came off of an almost unblockable deflection. Despite his mediocre play so far this series, it is still likely that Jonas Hiller will start Game 3.

Ducks Roll With Hiller

News: Jonas Hiller is slated to start Monday's Game 2 against the Kings, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Jonas Hiller -- who stopped 33 shots in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Kings -- thus appears to have reclaimed the Ducks' top goaltending role from Frederik Andersen, who started the team's first six playoff contests.

Ducks' Hiller: 33 Saves In Loss

News: Jonas Hiller turned away 33 shots, but ended up on the losing end of a 3-2 score in overtime Saturday.
Analysis: He'd like the first goal back -- he didn't push off hard enough to get across the crease in time to block the puck. It's highly unlikely the Ducks bring him back in free agency, so he's playing for both a Cup and a contract. His motivation to perform well will be high.

Ducks' Hiller Starting Saturday

News: Jonas Hiller will start Saturday's Game 1 against the Kings, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: As expected, Jonas Hiller will supplant Frederik Andersen, who struggled in Game 6 of the Ducks' opening-round series against the Stars. Hiller played well in that Game 6, stopping all 12 shots he faced in relief of Andersen.

Ducks Start Hiller On Saturday

News: Jonas Hiller will likely be in net for the Ducks on Saturday, Mark Masters of TSN reports.
Analysis: Following a poor outing by Frederik Andersen in Game 6 in which Jonas Hiller relieved him, it appears Hiller will start for the team in Game 1. He will look to keep things rolling after a strong showing in relief and could take over as the starting goaltender for the remainder of the playoffs with a strong showing in net Saturday.

Ducks' Hiller Likely In Net Saturday

News: Jonas Hiller is the favorite to start in net for the Ducks in Game 1, Helene Elliot of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Analysis: Jonas Hiller relieved Frederik Andersen in the Ducks' series-winning game on April 27 and it appears he is the favorite to start Game 1 on Saturday. Andersen has struggled as of late, including letting in four goals on just 12 shots in his last outing, leaving the door open for Hiller to take back the net.

Ducks' Hiller Wins In Relief

News: Jonas Hiller replaced Fredrik Andersen in Sunday's Game 6 against the Stars. He stopped all 12 shots he faced in the overtime win.
Analysis: Andersen got pulled twice in this series, so when the second round begins, don't be surprised if Jonas Hiller is in net.

Hiller Finishes Game 4 For Ducks

News: HIller stopped the only shot on goal against him when he was put in with 12:22 left in the third period of a 4-2 loss to the Stars in Game 4 of the playoffs on Wednesday.
Analysis: After teammate Frederik Andersen's lackluster performance in his last two games, it looks like he will now get a chance to regain his role as the starting goalie for Ducks. He will have his work cut out for him should he get the opportunity, the Stars have taken the momentum in the series and the Ducks will have to win Game 5 if they are to have a realistic chance to move on to the next round of the playoffs.

Ducks' Hiller On The Outs As Starting Goalie?

News: Jonas Hiller appears to have been passed on the Ducks' depth chart by rookie Frederik Andersen, who is expected to start Game 1 against the Kings, NHL.com's Curtis Zupke reports.
Analysis: Andersen enters the playoffs with wins in five of his last six regular season starts, while Jonas Hiller has been abysmal since the Ducks' outdoors game against the Kings back in January. He's gone 5-7-2 since that time, and his struggles prompted coach Bruce Boudreau to choose another rookie goalie in John Gibson to make the final two turns on the Ducks' regular season schedule. Hiller's 20 games of playoff experience probably aren't enough to make up for Andersen's dramatically better play down the stretch.

Ducks' Hiller Will Not Play Saturday

News: Jonas Hiller said he will not play Saturday but he isn't sure about whether or not he'll play in Sunday's regular-season finale, Helene Elliott of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Analysis: With a playoff spot already locked up, the Ducks will give Jonas Hiller at least one of the final two games off to gear up for what they hope will be a lengthy run. Hiller looks like he could use the rest, as he's given up 11 goals in his last three outings.

Hiller Allows Three In Ducks' Loss

News: Jonas Hiller stopped 24 of 27 shots on goal during a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Oilers on Sunday.
Analysis: Jonas Hiller's recent struggles have to be concerning to the Ducks as the regular season winds down.

Ducks To Start Hiller On Sunday

News: Jonas Hiller will be between the pipes Sunday against the Oilers, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Jonas Hiller will be facing off against Edmonton's Viktor Fasth, the goalie who formerly served as his understudy and an occasional challenger for starting duties in Anaheim. Hiller has another up-and-coming goalie behind him now on the depth chart in Frederik Andersen, but he's probably played well enough this season to hang onto the No. 1 gig the rest of the way. He has struggled of late, however, losing six of his last nine outings.

Hiller Allows Four In Ducks' Defeat

News: Jonas Hiller stopped 13 of 17 shots on goal before leaving the game with 2:55 left in the first period of a 5-2 loss to the Predators on Friday. After teammate Frederik Andersen was injured, he then returned to play the third period.
Analysis: While he'll still likely remain the first choice to start in net, Jonas Hiller's team cannot be happy with his recent play as the playoffs get close. He's now lost six of the last nine games in which he's started in goal.

Ducks' Hiller To Start Friday Night

News: Jonas Hiller will be between the pipes for Friday's game against the Predators, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Jonas Hiller will be looking to get back on track after a rough month of March, in which he posted a 3.11 GAA and .889 save percentage. However, that won't come easy for him against a sizzling Nashville squad that has averaged 4.16 goals over its last six games.

Hiller Stops 19 In Ducks' Loss

News: Jonas Hiller stopped 19 of 23 shots on on goal during a 4-3 overtime defeat at the hands of the Oilers on Friday.
Analysis: Jonas Hiller continues to look erratic in net. He'll still remain the starter, but will have to step his game up if the Ducks are to do anything once they start the playoffs.

Hiller To Start For Ducks Friday

News: Jonas Hiller will start for the Ducks against the Oilers on Friday night, Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register reports.
Analysis: Jonas Hiller's been up and down lately, but will try to follow up Wednesday's impressive performance with another strong one in Edmonton against the 24th-highest-scoring team in the NHL this season.

Hiller Stops 32 In Ducks' Victory

News: HIller stopped 32 of 34 shots on goal and picked up an assist during a 3-2 defeat of the Flames on Wednesday.
Analysis: Wednesday's stellar performance may have been exactly what both the Ducks and the recently erratic Jonas Hiller needed. He is now tied for the ninth-most wins in the NHL this season.
