Wild's Curry Stops 43 In Winning Season Debut

News: John Curry's season debut went swimmingly Thursday, as he held the Blues to two goals on 45 shots in a 4-2 victory.
Analysis: It's no joke to beat the Blues -- the West's top team for most of the year -- never mind to do it in your first NHL start since Jan. 16, 2010. It's telling that the 30-year-old John Curry's started just four NHL games in his career, but he did post a very good .920 save mark in the AHL this year. Still, Curry isn't likely to be on Minnesota's playoff roster unless Darcy Kuemper's injury lingers.

Wild's Curry To Make Debut Thursday

News: John Curry will be in the net Thursday against the Blues.
Analysis: With the Wild having secured a playoff spot, coach Mike Yeo will give Ilya Bryzgalov a rest and turn to the backup John Curry for his Minnesota debut. At 30 years old, Curry is past prospect status at this point and might have a difficult time holding down the Blues, who rank second in the Western Conference with 111 points.

Wild Recall Curry

News: The Wild recalled John Curry from AHL Iowa on Wednesday.
Analysis: John Curry will backup Ilya Bryzgalov, as Darcy Kuemper is still sidelined with an upper-body injury. Curry has never made an NHL appearance, but does have a 7-9-2 record with a 2.62 GAA and a .920 save percentage for Iowa this season.

Wild Send Curry Back To AHL Iowa

News: John Curry was reassigned to AHL Iowa on Saturday, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: John Curry was brought up as insurance as Niklas Backstrom was still dealing with some abdominal pain. That has apparently subsided and Curry will head back down to resume No. 1 goalie duties for Iowa.

Wild Recall Curry

News: John Curry was recalled from AHL Iowa on Wednesday.
Analysis: John Curry will join the Wild to presumably serve as the team's backup goalie Thursday with Niklas Backstrom dealing with some renewed abdominal pain over the last few days. With Darcy Kuemper seemingly entrenched as the No. 1 netminder, Curry doesn't have much hope of seeing any sort of extensive playing time while he's with the Wild.

Wild Reassign Curry

News: John Curry was reassigned to AHL Iowa on Tuesday, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: With a new two-way deal in tow, he can be called up by the Wild after the break if needed. Even if he gets the appointment to the big club, he's unlikely to see any starts. He hasn't made an NHL appearance since the 2009-10 season with the Penguins.

Wild Place Curry On Waivers

News: John Curry was placed on waivers by the Wild on Monday, TSN's Bob McKenzie reports.
Analysis: After being called up from AHL Iowa earlier this season when Josh Harding and Niklas Backstrom were both unavailable due to injuries, the club elected to ink John Curry to NHL deal in the event he's needed again after the break. Curry will head back to Iowa to get some more practice time before the Wild assess whether or not he'll be needed.

Wild Recall Curry

News: John Curry was recalled from AHL Iowa on Friday, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Analysis: John Curry is just expected to remain with the Wild for one day. Darcy Kuemper will make a start at AHL Iowa on Friday and is then expected to be recalled Saturday to fill Curry's spot.

Baby Pens' Curry Bolts To Europe

News: Curry signed with a German team, the Hamburg Freezers, and won't return to the Wilkes-Barre Baby Penguins, according to the Citizen's Voice.
Analysis: Curry found himself going nowhere fast with Brad Thiessen, the AHL goalie of the year, in front of him. Pittsburgh has another youngster, Patrick Killeen, who might serve as Thiessen's backup in 2011-12.

Analysis: Curry was recalled as insurance while Brent Johnson was dealing with a groin injury.

Pens' Curry Recalled To Back Up Marc-Andre Fleury

News: The Penguins recalled Curry to serve as Marc-Andre Fleury's backup Thursday against Washington, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Analysis: Curry continues to have a bounce-back season in the AHL, sporting an 11-5 record, with a 2.33 GAA and .913 save percentage. He won't likely play in Pittsburgh unless Brent Johnson's groin forces him to miss weeks at a time.

Pens' Curry Rebuilding Prospect Status

News: Curry is off to a strong start in the AHL with a 4-0 mark, 1.72 GAA and .940 save percentage for the Baby Penguins.
Analysis: Curry endured an off-season last year and likely fell behind Brad Thiessen in the depth chart. He's rebuilding his stock nicely, but it's interesting to note that Thiessen is also 4-0 and has a 1.96 GAA and .930 save percentage.

Curry Looking to Rebuild His Game

News: Curry stopped 15 of 16 shots in the third period of Friday's game in Columbus.
Analysis: Curry's status has taken a hit and he's fallen behind Brad Thiessen in Wilkes Barre. He'll need to get off to a strong start to rebuild some of the faith and trust the organization lost in him last year.

Curry recalled by Penguins

News: The Penguins have recalled G John Curry from the AHL.
Analysis: Curry was up in January to cover for Marc-Andre Fleury when he had a broken finger. He made one start, but was yanked in a loss to the Canucks. Curry will just back up Fleury on Sunday while Brent Johnson is out and has no Fantasy value at this time.

Fleury doesn't practice Monday

News: The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that Penguins G Marc-Andre Fleury (broken finger) did not practice on Monday.
Analysis: Don't take the risk with Fleury for Fantasy Week 16 (Jan. 18-24). It looks like there's no chance he'll play Tuesday night, and you have to think it might take him most of this week to recover from this finger injury. Brent Johnson, who did practice Monday but is still on IR, will likely start on Tuesday. Fantasy owners are probably better staying away from all Penguins goalies for the scoring period, and the Penguins TG will lose a little luster because of this mess. Johnson might be worth a shot in deeper leagues, but he might be being rushed back from his undisclosed injury.

Curry pulled in loss to Canucks

News: Penguins G John Curry allowed five goals on 14 shots Saturday before being pulled in a 6-2 loss to the Canucks.
Analysis: The Penguins goalie situation is a mess right now with Marc-Andre Fleury (finger) and Brent Johnson (undisclosed) both on the shelf. Curry was only called up earlier this week and has been thrown immediately into the fire. He might get a start or few in Fantasy Week 16 (Jan. 18-24), but only a brave Fantasy owner in a deeper league would take a risk with him after this outing. The Penguins TG is usually a No. 1 option, but you might want to avoid the unit for the upcoming scoring period.

Penguins summon Curry, Lovejoy

News: The Penguins have called up G John Curry and D Ben Lovejoy from the AHL.
Analysis: Neither of the Penguins goalies appear to be injured at the moment, so we're not sure why Curry has been summoned. Lovejoy is up for some depth on the blue line. Both can be ignored in all Fantasy formats.

Penguins have not soured on Curry

News: The Sports Xchange reports G Brent Johnson signed a one-year contract with the Penguins on July 21 and is expected to back up starter Marc-Andre Fleury. However, this does not mean the Penguins have soured on AHL top goalie John Curry. The club prefers that Curry, only a third-year pro, acquire additional seasoning in the minors.
Analysis: The 25-year-old Curry made his NHL debut in 2008-09. He appeared in three games with the Penguins, posting a 2-1-0 record along with a .913 save percentage and 2.14 goals-against average. He posted a 33-15-1 record in 50 games last season with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL. While Curry sits third on the team's depth chart, it's going to take an injury to Fleury for him to even get a sniff at a starting NHL job. Curry has no Fantasy appeal Draft Day.

Pens re-sign Curry for two years

News: The Penguins re-signed goalie John Curry to a two-year contract Sunday. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
With the addition of Brent Johnson, Curry is at best third on the depth chart in Pittsburgh. He has no Fantasy appeal Draft Day.

Curry sent packing to AHL

News: Goalie Marc-Andre Fleury will be in uniform for the Pittsburgh Penguins' game at Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon after missing 12 games with a groin injury. Penguins coach Michel Therrien wouldn't say Friday if Fleury or Dany Sabourin would start against the Flyers. Rookie goalie John Curry, who stopped 24 of 26 shots during a 9-2 rout of the New York Islanders on Thursday night, was returned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday.
Analysis: CVurry went 2-1 in three games, beating the Islanders for both of his victories. This move was expected, so it's safe to cut ties with Curry in Fantasy. He will only be up again in the event of an injury.

Curry wins easy over Islanders

News: Pittsburgh G John Curry allowed two goals and stopped 24 shots on Thursday night against the Islanders. That was way better than he needed to play to earn the win. The Islanders allowed nine goals to the Penguins as Curry won the game 9-2.
Analysis: Making just his second start of his career, Curry picked up his second NHL victory on Thursday and did it with ease. That said, Curry might want to cherish his time in the NHL since it could be short as Marc-Andre Fleury works his way back from injury. Curry is nothing more than roster depth and is not a recommended Fantasy option at this time. The Penguins TG is a high-end Fantasy option since Dany Sabourin has been playing well in Fleury's absence.

Curry loses in first career start

News: Penguins G John Curry could not hold a 3-2 lead Friday against Buffalo and ended up taking a 4-3 loss as the Sabres scored twice in the third period for the comeback win. Curry made 28 saves in his first career NHL start. "You can't blame him on any of the goals," captain Sidney Crosby said. "He made some big saves and kept us in it. He did a great job."
Analysis: Curry was making his second career appearance after relieving Dany Sabourin in Wednesday's wild 5-3 comeback win over the New York Islanders. "It's disappointing. Being my first start I wanted to get a win," Curry said. "It just didn't come out our way." Curry might want to cherish his time in the NHL since it could be short as Marc-Andre Fleury works his way back from injury. Curry is nothing more than roster depth and is not a recommended Fantasy option at this time. The Penguins TG is a high-end Fantasy option since Sabourin has been playing well in Fleury's absence.

Curry to get 1st start Friday

News: The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Penguins G John Curry will get his first NHL start on Friday night at Buffalo. Curry saw his first NHL action in relief of Dany Sabourin during the Penguins' 5-3 victory Wednesday on Long Island.
Analysis: Curry was called up from the Penguins' farm team in Wilkes-Barre after Marc-Andre Fleury was injured in a game against the Sabres Nov. 15. He can be ignored in all Fantasy formats for now, while the Penguins TG remains a high-end Fantasy option.

Curry wins in NHL debut

News: Just as they did less than three weeks earlier at Nassau Coliseum, the Penguins wiped out New York's 3-1 lead in the third Wednesday night. At least on Nov. 8 the Islanders earned a point with the 4-3 shootout loss. They had nothing to show for this effort that produced a 3-0 edge midway through the second. The big comeback and 5-3 win made a winner of third-string goalie John Curry, who made his NHL debut in relief in the second period after Dany Sabourin was chased from the net. Curry stopped all 11 shots he faced after Sabourin allowed three goals on 14 shots.
Analysis: Curry was recently recalled from the AHL by the Penguins because Marc-Andre Fleury is out with injury. If Fleury's injury is minor, Curry isn't long for the NHL right now. He can be ignored in all Fantasy formats unless the starter is out longer than expected. The Penguins TG is a high-end Fantasy option.

Curry recalled by Penguins

News: The Penguins recalled John Curry from the AHL on Tuesday to back up G Dany Sabourin with G Marc-Andre Fleury out with an undisclosed but apparent minor injury.
Analysis: If Fleury's injury is minor, Curry isn't long for the NHL right now. He can be ignored in all Fantasy formats unless the starter is out longer than expected.
