Hip Injury Knocks Oilers' Perron Out Worlds

News: David Perron is dealing with a hip injury and will not be able to play in the 2014 World Hockey Championship.
Analysis: Although the hip injury will keep David Perron out of the international competition, it's not believed to be serious enough of an issue to prevent him from being available for the start of training camp. The 25-year-old was one of the few bright spots during a dismal campaign for the Oilers, accumulating 28 goals and 29 assists in 78 games.

Oilers' Perron Tallies Goal In Loss

News: David Perron scored the lone Oilers goal in their loss to the Avalanche on Tuesday.
Analysis: David Perron's bank shot off the skate of Avs defenseman Nick Holden got past goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere to give the forward his team-leading 28th goal. The 25-year-old has enjoyed a productive first season in Edmonton, setting career-bests in nearly every offensive category.

Perron Gets Oilers' Lone Tally In Home Loss

News: David Perron pocketed his 23rd goal of the season in Saturday night's 2-1 loss to Calgary.
Analysis: Every time he tallies these days, he sets a new career high; his previous mark was 21 goals two seasons ago. David Perron has picked up his offense noticeably since being acquired in the offseason from St. Louis; if you drafted him expecting about 45 points from him, you're going to get a nice dividend this season.

Perron Tallies Assist In Oilers' Win

News: David Perron logged an assist for the second straight game in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Rangers.
Analysis: That's three assists in his last two games. For the season, David Perron has 22 goals and 20 assists in 54 contests.

Oilers' Perron Tallies Two Assists

News: David Perron picked up two helpers against the Sabres on Monday.
Analysis: David Perron now has 22 goals and 19 assists in 54 games. He's already broken his career high in goals, and he's on pace to break his career-high point total as well. Of course, part of that is because Perron has stayed healthy thus far. He hasn't played more than 57 games since the 2009-10 season.

Oilers' Perron Notches Hat Trick

News: David Perron scored three goals and was a plus-3 against the Canucks on Monday.
Analysis: With these three goals, David Perron crosses the 20 goal barrier, as he now has 22 on the season.

Oilers' Perron Scores 19th In Loss Friday

News: David Perron scored his 19th goal of the season during the Oilers' 4-3 loss to Phoenix on Friday.
Analysis: Though David Perron now has two goals in his last three games, January has been a terrible month for the 25-year-old winger who has just those goals and two assists over 11 games this month. He could be heating up again right now, so you'll want to make sure you have him active in your lineup right now.

Perron Sends Game To OT, But Oilers Fall

News: David Perron's tallied his 18th goal of the season in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Jets.
Analysis: David Perron's game-tying score came with just two minutes left in the third period, at least allowing the Oilers to salvage a point in the defeat. His 18 goals, 17 assists and minus-7 rating on the season have made him a better fantasy asset than several of the team's more-heralded forwards.

Perron Scores 16th, But Oilers Fall At Home

News: David Perron scored his team-leading 16th goal of the season Saturday in the Oilers' shootout loss to Philadelphia. He finished the night plus-2 and was whistled for two penalty minutes.
Analysis: Of Edmonton's four elite young scorers (Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and David Perron), Perron offers the best overall fantasy value in standard formats, considering his scoring, penalty minutes, and relatively benign plus/minus rating.

Oilers' Perron Pots Two Goals In Loss

News: David Perron connected on two goals on six shot attempts Thursday vs. the Bruins.
Analysis: David Perron continues to clip along with 27 points in 29 games and remains one of the few regular skaters for the Oilers with a neutral or better plus/minus rating. He's been something of a gem in what has otherwise been a very disappointing season for the Oilers.

Perron Tallies Two Points For Oilers

News: David Perron scored a goal, assisted on another, went plus-2 and racked up four penalty minutes in Thursday's blowout win over Colorado.
Analysis: That's four straight games with a point for David Perron -- in that time, he's totaled four goals, two assists, a plus-3 rating and eight penalty minutes. The former Blue has now pulled his season rating even, and with 24 points in 26 games on top of that, he's been terrifically rewarding for fantasy owners.

Explosive Game For Blues' Perron

News: David Perron had a monster game Tuesday against Columbus, scoring two goals and assisting on two more in a 7-0 romp.
Analysis: Well, that's more like it. David Perron's been a pretty consistent offensive contributor when healthy this year, as he hasn't gone more than two games in a row without a point, but this was only his third multi-point contest of the season. He's shooting plentifully and playing with an edge, so as long as he's healthy, Perron is a solid fantasy option, particularly in leagues that reward shots, PIM and hits.

Perron Books Winner For Oilers

News: David Perron scored midway through the third frame of a comeback win over Calgary on Saturday night, good for his first game-winning goal of the season.
Analysis: Despite the happy news, there's reason for concern; David Perron's shooting percentage this year (7.6 percent) is far below his career norm of about 13 percent. He's firing away more often, so he might still post a decent number of tallies. But pay attention to how that shooting percentage fluctuates, as it's going to constrain his fantasy value unless it improves.

Oilers Bring Back Perron From IR

News: David Perron (neck) was activated from injured reserve in advance of Saturday's game.
Analysis: The winger scored a second-period power-play goal in his return, showing the deft scoring touch he had demonstrated prior to landing on IR. The Oilers figure to use David Perron on the second-line role with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Jordan Eberle, which should continue to be rather fruitful.

Oilers' Perron Skates Friday

News: David Perron (neck) skated during Friday's practice.
Analysis: Things were already trending in a positive direction when David Perron was cleared to travel with the Oilers this weekend, and his presence in practice suggests a return to game action might even be in play Saturday or Sunday. The Oilers demoted two forwards earlier in the day, moves that could have been made to facilitate Perron's return from injured reserve.

Oilers' Perron Could Begin Traveling With Team

News: David Perron (neck) could join the team at some point during their weekend road trip, the Edmonton Journal's Jim Matheson reports.
Analysis: The fact that David Perron is entertaining the idea of traveling with the team is a sign that he's made some sort of progress in his recovery from the neck injury in recent days. Until Perron begins taking part in full-contact practices, however, there won't be a clear timetable for his return. He's been sidelined since Oct. 29, first on account of illness before the neck injury cropped up.

Oilers' Perron Lands On IR

News: David Perron (neck) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, the Edmonton Journal reports.
Analysis: With David Perron not expected to skate during the next few days following an MRI on Friday, the Oilers went ahead and placed him on IR to free up a roster spot. Philip Larson was called up in a corresponding move.

Oilers' Perron To Undergo MRI On Neck

News: David Perron will undergo an MRI on his neck.
Analysis: Coach Dallas Eakins didn't indicate when exactly the scan will occur, but the fact that he requires the MRI at all would seem to put his status in doubt for Saturday's contest against the Red Wings. David Perron missed the Oilers' previous game with an illness, but it appears to have fully passed through his system now.

Oilers' Perron Misses Practice Again

News: David Perron (back/neck) did not practice Friday, the Oilers' official site reports.
Analysis: He has now missed two consecutive days of practice, leaving his status very iffy for Saturday's tilt with the Red Wings. He remains day-to-day.

Oilers' Perron No Longer Ill, But Still Feeling Sore

News: David Perron has gotten over the illness that kept him out Tuesday against the Maple Leafs, but missed practice Thursday with back and neck pain, the Edmonton Sun reports.
Analysis: The injury has clouded David Perron's status for Saturday against the Red Wings, as coach Dallas Eakins would only call the forward day-to-day. Perron's absence certainly didn't go unnoticed Tuesday, as the Oilers failed to muster any offense in the 4-0 loss.

Oilers' Perron Sits Tuesday With Illness

News: David Perron (illness) will not play Tuesday against the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: The Oilers didn't relay that David Perron was feeling sick earlier this morning, so the symptoms must have developed and some time prior to pregame warmups. Denis Grebeshkov is now expected to dress Tuesday and enter the Oilers lineup.

Oilers' Perron Riding Three-Game Scoring Streak

News: David Perron has notched an assist in each of his last three games.
Analysis: Even though David Perron has delivered six points in seven games, he's still sporting a minus-2 rating on the season thanks to a hapless defense that has allowed no fewer than three goals in any game. Perron may continue to remain a sink in that category, but his scoring could stay more constant with a stable of talented forwards playing alongside him.

Oilers' Perron Misses Game With Illness

News: David Perron missed the Oilers' preseason game Thursday due to an illness, according to the Edmonton Sun.
Analysis: David Perron will be good to go for the regular season and probably would've played in the game had it been a regular rather than a preseason game. With all of the line shuffling the Oilers have had to do due to injuries to their top two centers, Perron could see top line minutes.

Oilers' Perron Pots Two

News: David Perron notched a pair of goals on two shots in Tuesday's preseason win over the Rangers.
Analysis: Jordan Eberle assisted on both tallies, and if David Perron sticks on a line with the uber-talented Eberle, he could be set up for a career year. He's already put up a quite promising six points in four preseason outings, but he'll need to shoot the puck more -- amazingly, he's potted five preseason goals despite putting just seven shots on net. That's certainly not a sustainable shooting percentage.

Perron's Shortie Spurs Oilers Past Canucks

News: David Perron's shorthanded goal in the second period put the Oilers ahead to stay in Saturday night's preseason game. He added an assist.
Analysis: David Perron has lit the lamp three times already, and appears poised to generate some solid numbers with Edmonton's young lineup this season.
