Canes' Khudobin Stops 22 In Loss

News: Anton Khudobin stopped 22 of 24 shots in Monday's 3-1 loss to the Blackhawks.
Analysis: Anton Khudobin allowed goals on each of the first two shots he faced, but stepped it up after that as the Hawks didn't score again until an empty netter in the final minute. He's started five straight in net, but the team has gone just 1-2-2 in that span, so while the club may keep turning to him, he'd make for a risky fantasy proposition.

Hurricanes Turn To Khudobin On Monday

News: Anton Khudobin is slated to start Monday's game against the Blackhawks, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: Anton Khudobin, who is thus in line to make his fifth straight start for Carolina, has gone 1-1-2 over his last four turns, allowing 10 goals in that span. He'll take aim Monday at a Chicago squad that had a four-game winning streak snapped by Saturday's 4-0 loss to the Stars.

Canes' Khudobin: 27 Saves In Loss

News: Anton Khudobin made 27 saves through overtime in Saturday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: It was a good performance, but he's not exactly burning things up with his play. His ratios are well below average and his club plays with the unmistakeable odour of stink. You cannot take the chance of putting him between the pipes.

Canes' Khudobin Draws Another Start

News: Anton Khudobin will be between the pipes for Saturday's game against the Rangers, Chantel McCabe of FOX Sports Carolinas reports.
Analysis: It sounds like Cam Ward might not be fully recovered from his battle with an illness just yet, so Anton Khudobin will be called upon for his fourth consecutive start in net. He was competitive in his first two turns of the streak, allowing two goals in both contests, but regressed Thursday versus the Canadiens, stopping only 18 of 22 shots while his mates were shut out by Carey Price. Due to his mediocre ratios (2.68 GAA, .902 save percentage) and the low-grade quality of his supporting cast, Khudobin won't make for an attractive fantasy option most nights, including Saturday with the division-leading Rangers in town.

Carolina's Khudobin Gives Up Four In Loss

News: Anton Khudobin was touched up for four goals on just 22 shots in Thursday's shutout loss to Montreal.
Analysis: He gave up a couple goals in the first nine minutes of the game, and that was more than enough with the Carolina offense unable to solve Carey Price. Anton Khudobin had looked good in his last two outings, offering fantasy owners a ray of hope, but he's been unable to sustain a high level of play this year, which has led to a .902 save mark that's well short of the .926 he posted for the Hurricanes last year. He's now lost four of his last five starts.

Hurricanes Stick With Khudobin On Thursday

News: Anton Khudobin is slated to start Thursday's game against Montreal, NHL.com's Michael Smith reports.
Analysis: Cam Ward remains limited by an illness and was absent from practice Wednesday, prompting coach Bill Peters to turn to Anton Khudobin for a third straight start. Khudobin held up well in his prior two turns, denying 53 of 57 shot attempts (.929 save percentage), and with another quality outing Thursday, he may continue to see a steady stream of duty even after Ward returns.

Canes' Khudobin Outdueled By Sens' Hammond

News: Anton Khudobin made 31 saves, but conceded the game-winning goal in overtime to take a loss to the Senators on Tuesday.
Analysis: Anton Khudobin nearly matched opposing goalie Andrew Hammond shot for shot in this one, but a beautiful exchange between the Sens' Kyle Turris and Mark Stone with 14 seconds remaining in the extra period proved to be the difference. Coach Bill Peters turned to Khudobin to make a second consecutive start with Cam Ward under the weather, but it's not clear if Tuesday's performance will be enough for Khudobin to earn the nod in the Canes' next match Thursday in Montreal.

Hurricanes Stick With Khudobin On Tuesday

News: Anton Khudobin is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Senators, NHL.com's Michael Smith reports.
Analysis: Per the report, Anton Khudobin who stopped 22 of 24 shots in Sunday's win over the Blue Jackets, will draw his second straight start for Carolina on Tuesday, with Cam Ward currently under the weather.

Carolina Turns To Khudobin On Sunday

News: Anton Khudobin is slated to start Sunday's game against the Blue Jackets, NHL.com's Michael Smith reports.
Analysis: Anton Khudobin, who is 2-1-1 with a 2.22 GAA in four career appearances against Columbus, draws Sunday's assignment, with Cam Ward having been in net for Carolina in Saturday's 2-0 loss to the Panthers.

Hurricanes' Khudobin Stops 22 In Win

News: Anton Khudobin stopped 22 of 24 shots in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Blue Jackets.
Analysis: Getting his second starting nod in three games, Anton Khudobin picked up just his second win in his last seven starts. His ratios of 2.66 GAA and .902 save percentage make him a risky fantasy proposition, but the 28-year-old should continue to see somewhat regular starts while Cam Ward also struggles to get a firm grasp on the No. 1 spot on the depth chart.

Khudobin Allows Four As 'Canes Fall

News: Anton Khudobin stopped 27 of 31 shots Thursday in a 5-3 loss to the Stars.
Analysis: Cam Ward has been giving Anton Khudobin opportunity after opportunity to seize the starting role, and the Russian goalie just hasn't been able to do it. After three straight games with an .875 save percentage or lower, his season mark is now hovering around .900, and that combined with the fact that he's won just once in his last nine appearances makes him a rough fantasy roll.

Canes' Khudobin Getting The Nod Thursday

News: Anton Khudobin will be between the pipes for Thursday's game against the Stars.
Analysis: Anton Khudobin was a spectator the last two games with Cam Ward taking the nod on both occasions, but he performed woefully in a win over the Oilers and a close loss to the Blue Jackets. Though coach Bill Peters will call upon Khudobin on Thursday, it's difficult to roll him with much confidence either, as he's been rather inconsistent over his last few turns as well. The Hurricanes' offensive attack seems to be running much more smoothly right now, so in order to pick up the win, Khudobin may need to ride the coattails of his mates. Dallas finds itself in a similar predicament with a capable offense but poor goaltending, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Thursday's showdown turn into a high-scoring affair.

Canes' Khudobin Gives Up Three Goals In Loss

News: Anton Khudobin gave up three goals on 19 shots in Friday's loss to the Wild.
Analysis: Not a great game from Anton Khudobin, who falls to 7-12-13 on the season with a .903 save percentage and 2.63 GAA. Considering he's got just one win in his last seven appearances, you can probably find better options on the waiver wire.

'Canes Confirm Khudobin For Friday Start

News: Anton Khudobin has been confirmed as the starter in goal for Friday's game against the Wild.
Analysis: Anton Khudobin will get a second crack at the Wild after he was bombed for five goals on 23 shots a few weeks ago. The goalie was able to spin his first shutout of the season in his last start against the Capitals, but that shouldn't necessarily be taken as an indicator of his performance to come. He's been merely adequate for much of the season with the Hurricanes, going 7-11-3 with a 2.61 GAA and a .905 save percentage. Moreover, Khudobin will have the tough task of trying to outduel Devan Dubnyk, who has gone 17-3-1 over his 22 starts with the Wild.

Canes' Khudobin Likely To Face Wild

News: Anton Khudobin was in the starter's crease for morning skate, ahead of Friday's game against the Wild, NHL.com's Michael Smith reports.
Analysis: With Anton Khudobin and Cam Ward both receiving significant playing time of late, it wouldn't be surprising to see Khudobin get the nod, after Ward handled the last two games. Khudobin draws a tricky matchup against the red-hot Wild, though the Canes have also played pretty well recently.

Canes' Khudobin Allows One In Relief

News: Anton Khudobin allowed one goal on eight shots after taking over in the third period of Monday's 5-2 loss to the Blackhawks.
Analysis: After rotating starts for nine straight, Cam Ward's strong play earned him the first consecutive starting nods for either goalie in that span but he may have relinquished that slight edge by allowing four goals in just two periods. Anton Khudobin wasn't great in limited action, but he may earn the next start as a result of Ward's poor performance.

Canes' Khudobin Pitches First Shutout Of Season

News: Anton Khudobin recorded his first shutout of the season Friday, stopping all 28 shots he faced in a win over Washington.
Analysis: A much-needed win for Anton Khudobin, who had lost four straight games, allowing a whopping 16 goals in that span. The 28-year-old is now 7-11-3 on the season with a .906 save percentage and 2.60 GAA. Cam Ward doesn't get many nights off, but when he does, Khudobin is a reliable backup option. Expect the team to turn to Ward Saturday against the Islanders.

Hurricanes Turn To Khudobin On Friday

News: Anton Khudobin is in line to start Friday's game against the Capitals.
Analysis: With Anton Khudobin slated to start Friday, expect the team to roll with Cam Ward (who the Hurricanes will honor with a special pre-game ceremony Friday in the wake of his 500th NHL game played) on Saturday against the Islanders.

'Canes To Start Khudobin On Saturday

News: Anton Khudobin will get the start between the pipes Saturday against the Devils, Michael Smith of NHL.com reports.
Analysis: Anton Khudobin has a great matchup on Saturday, as New Jersey only averages 2.17 goals scored per game, good for second to last in the NHL. However, Khudobin has been shaky at best in limited action with the Canes, going 6-10-3 with a 2.71 GAA and a .903 save percentage through 21 games with Carolina this season.

Khudobin, 'Canes Fall To Isles

News: Anton Khudobin allowed three goals on 29 shots Tuesday in a 4-1 loss to the Islanders.
Analysis: It's the fourth straight unattractive stat line for Anton Khudobin, who's had plenty of chances to steal starting duties from Cam Ward, but has largely failed to take advantage. This was just a back-to-back opportunity for the Hurricanes' backup goalie.

'Canes To Start Khudobin On Tuesday

News: Anton Khudobin will be between the pipes for Tuesday's game against the Islanders, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: With Cam Ward manning the net in Monday's win over the Senators, Anton Khudobin steps in to give him a breather for the second game of a back-to-back. The team seems to have leaned Ward's way more frequently over the last few games, as Khudobin's performance hasn't warranted additional work. He's given up a total of 10 goals over his last two turns, and likely would have been bypassed for the start if the team wasn't playing on consecutive days. Don't count on Khudobin submitting strong numbers against one of the Eastern Conference's top teams.

Khudobin, 'Canes Toppled Saturday

News: Anton Khudobin wasn't especially sharp Saturday against the Wild, conceding five goals on 23 shot attempts.
Analysis: With a 5-3-2 record over their last 10 games, the Hurricanes have been trending upward after getting off to a woeful start to the season, but Anton Khudobin hasn't been a key contributor to their relative success of late. The netminder has given up five goals in each of his last two starts, and was pulled early in the outing prior to that after yielding two goals on three shots. Reaching the playoffs might be out of the question at this point, but expect the Hurricanes to lean more heavily on Cam Ward going forward as they continue on their climb back toward respectability.

'Canes To Start Khudobin On Saturday

News: Anton Khudobin will make the start in goal Saturday against the Wild.
Analysis: It will be Anton Khudobin's first career start against the team that selected him in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. Khudobin appears to have surrendered the No. 1 job back over to Cam Ward, who had made the previous three starts for the Hurricanes, but a strong performance against the surging Wild would represent an impressive statement.

Carolina To Roll With Khudobin On Tuesday

News: Anton Khudobin will man the net for Tuesday's game against the Ducks, NHL.com's Curtis Zupke reports.
Analysis: Anton Khudobin looked as though he had surpassed Cam Ward on the depth chart over the past couple of weeks, but he suffered a misstep his last time out Friday versus the Blues, surrendering goals on two of the first three shots he faced before getting pulled. Ward was solid in relief in that game, but turned in a poor outing the very next night against the Rangers, further muddling the Canes' goalie picture. At this point, it seems coach Bill Peters might be content to ride the hot hand, so if Khudobin can somehow slow one of the league's best teams on their own home ice, it would surely be a boon to his chances at sticking as the Canes' top goalie.

Khudobin Stumbles Again For 'Canes

News: Anton Khudobin was tagged for five goals on 31 shots Tuesday in an overtime loss to Anaheim.
Analysis: That's the second straight rough outing for the Kazakh-Russian goalie, who's allowed seven goals on 34 shots in these last two games. Ugly. But he'd been absolutely on fire before, so perhaps Anton Khudobin's earned himself some forgiveness. Still, it seems likely we'll see Cam Ward get the cake assignment against Arizona on Thursday.
