Preds Invite Free Agent Lee To Camp

News: The Predators have invited Brian Lee to training camp on a tryout basis, according to the team's official website.
Analysis: The odds of Brian Lee cracking the Preds' roster are slim, since he missed the entire 2013-14 season due to a knee injury, and has never played a full 82-game season in his entire career. However, Lee does have 209 NHL games to his credit with Ottawa and Tampa Bay since the 2007-08 season, amassing 36 points (5g-31a) and 124 penalty minutes.

Lee back up with Senators

News: The Senators have recalled D Brian Lee from the AHL.
Analysis: Lee is a nice long-term keeper prospect but the 23-year-old has no seasonal Fantasy value at this time. He hasn't exactly lit up the AHL this season either, with just 12 points in 38 games.

Sens sign Lee to extension

News: The Senators have signed D Brian Lee to a two-year extension.
Analysis: The 22-year-old Lee has only played 18 games for Ottawa this season, but this move shows the team still believes he can be a contributor down the road. Keep him stashed in deeper long-term keeper leagues.

Sens send Lee, Smith to AHL

News: The Senators have re-assigned D Brian Lee and D Derek Smith to the AHL for the Olympic break.
Analysis: Lee, the ninth overall pick in 2005, has played in 74 NHL games so far, but only 15 this season. He remains just a long-term keeper option. Smith played in his first two NHL contests last week and has no Fantasy value as just organizational depth.

Lee called up by Senators

News: The Senators recalled defensemen Brian Lee and Derek Smith from Binghamton of the AHL on Friday.
Analysis: Lee has totaled two goals and three points in 13 games with Ottawa this season. He is pretty much organizational depth at this point in his career and is nothing more than a long-term Fantasy keeper.

Ottawa send Lee to minors

News: The Senators sent down Brian Lee to Binghamtom of the AHL on Friday.
Analysis: Lee appeared in Ottawa's past 13 games, recording two goals and an assist. The Senators have a good rotation on their blue line and Lee is just added depth. Ignore him in Fantasy until further notice.

Lee nets third career goal

News: The Sports Xchange reports Senators D Brian Lee scored his first goal of the season and just his third in the NHL when he skated the length of the ice before putting a harmless-looking shot at Martin Brodeur on Saturday. Somehow, the puck found its way through the goalie's pads and trickled over the line.
Analysis: Lee has managed two points in four games this season and could get some extra playing time if he keeps up the production. Lee has minimal Fantasy appeal until the points come on a regular basis.

Senators call up Lee from AHL

News: The Senators have called up D Brian Lee from the AHL.
Analysis: Lee will help fill in for the injured Anton Volchenkov, but the 22-year-old will have minimal seasonal Fantasy value to begin with. He remains a decent long-term keeper prospect, however.

Lee in action against Atlanta

News: Ottawa D Brian Lee was able to play in Saturday's game against the Thrashers, failing to record an offensive stat in the game. He had missed one game with an upper body injury before returning on Saturday.
Analysis: Lee doesn't have a point in ten games now. He had a bit of a hot streak in mid-February, but we figured it wouldn't last. Lee is a top-logging defenseman for Ottawa, but he is definitely on the ice more for his defense at this stage in his career. Consider him more of a long-term Fantasy keeper until he has his breakout run. He is safe to use for the upcoming scoring period.

Lee scratched with injury

News: Ottawa D Brian Lee was a late scratch Wednesday against the Hurricanes with an upper-body injury. He remains questionable heading into Saturday against the Thrashers.
Analysis: Lee doesn't have a point in nine games. He had a bit of a hot streak in mid-February, but we figured it wouldn't last. Lee is a top-logging defenseman for Ottawa, but he is definitely on the ice more for his defense at this stage in his career. Consider him more of a long-term Fantasy keeper until he has his breakout run.

Lee scores for Senators

News: Ottawa D Brian Lee scored his second goal of the season in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Minnesota Wild. Lee scored in the 2nd period to give the Senators their first goal of the game.
Analysis: Lee now has points in two straight games and that is saying something as he's only got eight on the year. Lee is a former first-round pick, but is still a developing presence. Consider him more of a long-term Fantasy keeper until he has his breakout run.

Ottawa makes coaching change

News: Craig Hartsburg lasted less than one season with the unraveling Ottawa Senators, who suddenly have a revolving door behind the bench. Unable to turn around a team that reached the Stanley Cup finals in 2007, Hartsburg was fired as coach Monday just 48 games into a season in which the Senators have the NHL's third worst record. The Senators made their first trip to the finals two years ago and now are likely to miss the playoffs for the first time in 13 seasons. The decision to replace Hartsburg with Cory Clouston was made by general manager Bryan Murray after Ottawa lost 7-4 at Washington on Sunday. Hartsburg signed a three-year contract in June. "We kept hoping there would be some change in our performance, which didn't seem to be taking place," said Murray, who coached the club to the finals before taking over as GM. "We just weren't making any progress. We're struggling to keep up."
Analysis: Clouston, promoted from the AHL's Binghamton Senators, is the team's fourth coach since Ottawa lost in five games to Anaheim in the 2007 finals. Murray returned behind the bench for the final 18 regular-season games (7-9-2) after he fired first-year coach John Paddock in February. The momentum of the finals appearance carried into last season when the Senators won 15 of their first 17 games. Since then, they have had a losing record and barely managed to hang on for a playoff spot last spring. The Senators were swept out of the first round in four games by Pittsburgh. The slide continued this season, even with a fresh voice in Hartsburg behind the bench. Scoring is down for the club's three offensive stars -- Daniel Alfredsson, Dany Heatley and Jason Spezza. There has been little offense as well from Mike Fisher, Antoine Vermette, Chris Neil and Chris Kelly. The once-feared Ottawa attack has become among the lowest-scoring in the league, and many point to the failure of defensemen to move the puck. In recent years, Zdeno Chara, Wade Redden, Andrej Meszaros and Joe Corvo have been among the defensemen who have left Ottawa either by trade or through free agency. Ottawa hasn't gotten much production from their blue line outside of Filip Kuba. Clouston will likely let the Big Three fire at will, but it will be interesting to see if he can get the other supporting characters back to being viable Fantasy options.

Lee logging heavy minutes for Sens

News: Senators D Brian Lee failed to record a point and finished at minus-1 in 21:10 of ice time Tuesday against the Capitals. He has no goals and two assists in nine January games.
Analysis: Lee has played pretty consistently for the Senators since late December and has been one of their top-logging defenseman as well. Lee could very well get a prolonged look in the second half and he might not have to go back down to the AHL. Lee is a former first-round pick, but is still a developing presence. Consider him more of a long-term Fantasy keeper until he has his breakout run.

B. Lee scores first NFL goal

News: Senators D Brian Lee scored his first NHL goal in Tuesday's win at Edmonton. Lee was called up on Saturday for the second time this season.
Analysis: Lee is a former first-round pick in his second who played just eight NHL games last season. He's a solid prospect for keeper leagues, but shouldn't be used in seasonal formats yet.

Lee plays 20 minutes after recall

News: The Sports Xchange reports Senators D Brian Lee was recalled from Binghamton (AHL) Saturday and played 20:25 against the Lightning as Chris Phillips' blue line partner. He didn't have a point and finished at even.
Analysis: Lee, the Senators' first-round pick from 2005, has yet to hit his stride as a pro. He was never a big-time point producer in college, but he was impressive at times. Lee has talent, but remains more of a long-term Fantasy keeper.

Sens send three to AHL

News: The Senators have assigned D Brian Lee, C Cody Bass and C Zack Smith to Binghamton (AHL).
Analysis: Lee, a former UND star, has potential to be a nice mid-level Fantasy contributor some time down the road, but shouldn't be owned in seasonal leagues right now. Bass and Smith have no Fantasy value.

Senators send Lee to AHL

News: NHL.com reports that the Ottawa Senators have assigned D Brian Lee to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Binghamton Senators.
Analysis: The 20-year-old Lee was thrown into the fire in Ottawa and struggled early. The former UND star has potential to be a nice mid-level Fantasy contributor some time down the road, but shouldn't be starting in any format right now.

Lee struggling to settle in

News: Senators D Brian Lee, who is playing on the third defensive pairing in Ottawa, is struggling to adjust to the NHL. The 20-year-old only has 11 games under his belt so far.
Analysis: Lee is being thrown into the fire in Ottawa, and hopefully that doesn't stunt his development. The former UND star has potential to be a nice mid-level Fantasy contributor some time down the road, but shouldn't be starting in any format right now.
