Subban Active In Montreal Win

News: P.K. Subban assisted on two of Montreal's four goals in Friday's Game 2 win over Tampa Bay in their Atlantic Division semifinal series.
Analysis: P.K. Subban created Montreal's second goal with a great outlet pass to Thomas Vanek, who then sprung Rene Bourque. There's little question that Subban will be one of the team's more active offensive players, so look for him to be on the scoresheet often if the Habs are doing well.

Montreal's Subban Benched

News: P.K. Subban was benched for most of the first period after being on ice for the first two Ottawa goals in Friday's 7-4 win over the Senators, the Montreal Gazette reports. He returned for regular shifts in the second period and played a season-low 13:39 and finished minus-3 for the night.
Analysis: P.K. Subban's finding himself in coach Michel Therrien's doghouse as the Habs ramp up for the postseason. Friday's benching occurred one game after Subban's previous season low of time on ice in Tuesday's loss to Tampa Bay. We'll see if this trend continues Saturday against the Red Wings.

Montreal's Subban Gets Season-Low TOI

News: P.K. Subban played a season-low 17:48 and had less even-strength time on ice than all other defenseman in Tuesday night's 3-1 loss to Tampa Bay.
Analysis: We'll look for some follow-up, but we've seen this sort of behavior before. Every now and then, coach Michel Therrien under-utilizes the team's best defenseman as penance for on-ice transgressions. We suspect to see P.K. Subban back to normal minutes Friday night against Ottawa.

Habs' Subban Keeps Helping Out

News: P.K. Subban handed out a pair of assists and went minus-1 in Thursday's win over Detroit.
Analysis: While P.K. Subban's respectably piled up seven assists in his last eight games, he hasn't scored a goal since March 3 -- a span of more than three weeks. Nonetheless, he remains one of fantasy's top defenders.

Habs' Subban: Three More Assists

News: P.K. Subban picked up three assists in Montreal's 5-4 OT win over Ottawa. He has nine points, including seven assists, in his last seven games.
Analysis: It's not often that a defender leads his team in scoring, but P.K. is doing just that. He has 48 points, including 38 assists. You know what to do.

Habs' Subban On Four-Game Streak

News: P.K. Subban assisted on both Montreal goals in Thursday's 5-2 loss to the Coyotes.
Analysis: He's been hot lately, with points in four straight -- two goals, four assists. Though he hits the occasional scoring lull, P.K. Subban should be an everyday fixture in fantasy lineups across all leagues.

Habs' Subban Scores 10th

News: P.K. Subban scored for the second straight game Monday, notching Montreal's lone goal in a 2-1 loss to the Kings. It was his 10th of the season.
Analysis: P.K. Subban should have some fresh legs for the stretch run after being a healthy scratch in all but one game for Team Canada in the Olympics.

Habs' Subban: Power-Play Producer

News: P.K. Subban picked up a goal and an assist, both of which came on the power play, in Saturday's overtime win over the Maple Leafs. He now has a career-best 41 points on the season.
Analysis: The points are his first since his return from the Olympics. And they came in the game that followed an in-game benching by coach Michel Therrien on Thursday night. There's a love-hate relationship between these two, but the trend is pretty clear -- P.K. gets heavier ice time the game after a benching. And he tends to respond with offense.

Habs' Subban Scratched For Sochi Opener

News: P.K. Subban will be a healthy scratch for Team Canada's opening game against Norway on Thursday, Stephen Whyno of the Canadian Press reports.
Analysis: Coach Mike Babcock confirmed P.K. Subban will play in Canada's second game vs. Austria on Friday, with Dan Hamhuis taking his spot as the seventh defenseman Thursday. Subban is one of the best blueliners in the fantasy game because of his offensive output, but his candidacy for the Canadian roster was under much debate due to his occasionally unreliable defense on the penalty kill.

Subban Active In Montreal Loss

News: P.K. Subban assisted on Montreal's only goal in Friday's loss to Detroit, giving him three points in the last four games.
Analysis: P.K. Subban, like several other of his teammates, finished Friday's game a minus-2. He put four shots on goal and notched an assist and will continue to be an offensive spark for Montreal and a lightning rod for some portions of the media.

Subban Lifts Habs With OT Winner

News: P.K. Subban scored his eighth goal of the season 23 seconds into overtime Thursday in Ottawa.
Analysis: The critical tally came on a brilliant effort by the blueliner, who picked up the puck after Brian Gionta generated a turnover in the Habs' offensive zone, stayed with it despite pressure by two Ottawa defenders, and put it past Craig Anderson to snap a five-game pointless streak and send the Habs to victory.

Habs' Subban Plays Season-Average Minutes

News: P.K. Subban, who was benched in Montreal's previous game, skated 24:49 in Saturday night's 2-1 overtime win over Chicago. He had one shot, two hits, two minutes in penalties and three giveaways.
Analysis: The time on ice is right around P.K. Subban's season average (25:12) and included nearly five minutes of power play time. Things are back to normal for Subban.

Habs' Subban And Coach Downplay Benching

News: Subban and coach Michel Therrien downplayed the player's benching during the third period of Wednesday night's loss to Philadelphia, the Montreal Gazette reports. Therrien's benching of Subban generated quite a bit of reaction from fans and media in Montreal. "I've got a great relationship with P.K. Subban," the coach said. "We communicate a lot. And he understands our decision, by the way. And he totally agrees."
Analysis: P.K. Subban echoed the coach's words and took the benching in stride, saying his job is not to question but to simply play hockey. It's not the first time he's been the subject of coaching discipline or attention during his time in Montreal, particularly under Therrien, who feels Subban's concentration isn't always there. There was a message sent earlier this season, designed to get Subban's attention. After a Nov. 2 loss to the Avalanche, in which the defenseman was minus-3, Therrien pointed at Subban -- without naming him -- for being partly to blame for the loss. Since that time, Subban is plus-11 and has played the kind of hockey that earned him a spot on the Canadian Olympic team.

Habs' Subban Cools On Bench

News: P.K. Subban was benched for a stretch of time during the third period of Wednesday night's 3-1 loss to Philadelphia, Hockey Inside Out reports. Subban took a bad penalty to the end the second period before spending the first half of the third period glued to the bench. "Team concept is very important," coach Michel Therrien said. "That will never, never, never change."
Analysis: It was a two-goal game (3-1) entering the third period, but Therrien felt it important to send yet another message to the team's best skater. P.K. Subban finished with 22:24 of ice time, three minutes fewer than his season average and five minutes fewer than he received in Monday's win over Florida. He'll back to his normal playing time allotment Saturday against the Blackhawks, but Therrien is more apt to send messages to Subban than he is to others on the team.

Huge Game For Habs' Subban

News: P.K. Subban scored a goal, added three assists, dished out six hits and went plus-3 in Thursday's win over Dallas.
Analysis: One of the assists came on an empty-netter, but still, wow, quite the enormous game for P.K. Subban, who's now got six points in his last two contests after scuffling his way to three points in the prior 12 games combined.

News: P.K. Subban scored and registered an assist in Tuesday's loss to Carolina, ending a two-game pointless streak.
Analysis: Two games is a long stretch for the mercurial blueliner, but he sits with 29 points through 41 games. P.K. Subban's name is certainly going to be mentioned the next week with the announcement of the Olympic rosters. Expect Subban to continue rolling in points.

News: P.K. Subban scored a goal, had six shots on net, blocked four shots, administered three hits and was plus-3 in Saturday night's 4-3 overtime win over Nashville.

Habs' Subban Giveth

News: P.K. Subban had three giveaways in Wednesday night's shootout win over New Jersey. His final one led to a Patrick Elias goal with a little over a minute left that gave the Devils a 3-2 lead at the time.
Analysis: Incredibly, David Desharnais knotted up the game 43 seconds later to send it into overtime, where the Habs eventually won in a shootout. We get these occasional negative plays with P.K. Subban, but it happens to all players. You just have to roll with it and enjoy all the good the Subban brings, such as 24 points in 29 games and perhaps another Norris Trophy for his collection.

News: P.K. Subban scored a goal and added a power-play assist in Saturday's 4-2 win over Toronto. He now has six points (one goal, five assists) in his last six games.
Analysis: He put up points, chirped Phil Kessel and fired a couple pucks at more than 100 mph. He has 23 points, including 12 on the power play, in 27 games. Stud.

Habs' Subban: Another Norris In His Sights?

News: P.K. Subban hit 20 points on the season (24 games) when he picked up an assist in Saturday's win over the Penguins. He's one of the early-season favorites in the Norris race.
Analysis: He's coming off a Norris trophy and it would be nice to go back-to-back with wins. But Erik Karlsson is back and healthy, so these two will likely battle for supremacy right to the end of the season. By the way, those 20 points project to more than 60 on the season if he keeps up his current touch. Yum.

Habs' Subban Snaps Small Slump

News: P.K. Subban picked up two assists and went plus-3 in Tuesday's win over the Wild.
Analysis: He'd gone three games without a point entering Tuesday -- his second-worst such stretch of the season -- but P.K. Subban got right back on the horse in this one. The 24-year-old tends to score in streaks, so this could be the start of another nice run.

Montreal's Subban Back To Normal Playing Time

News: P.K. Subban skated a team-high 28:22 in Tuesday night's 2-1 shootout loss to the Lightning. He earned all of those minutes, firing eight of Montreal's 29 shots on net and blocking three in the loss.
Analysis: After getting just 21 minutes in a shootout loss to the Blues last week, P.K. Subban has averaged 27:03 in the three games since.

Habs' Subban Loses Ice Time

News: P.K. Subban, who averages more than 24 minutes per game, was on ice for 20:52 in Tuesday night's loss to St. Louis. He had an assist, three shots on goal, three blocked shots and three give-aways in the loss.
Analysis: There are times when head coach Michel Therrien puts P.K. Subban in lock-down, presumably because of on-ice mistakes, and the Norris Trophy-winning defenseman gets less time on ice than Raphael Diaz (24:04).

Habs' Subban Tallies Goal, Assist In Loss

News: P.K. Subban had a goal and an assist during a 4-3 loss to the Wild on Friday.
Analysis: The two points were the defenseman's first in five games after tallying 10 over the first seven games of the season. He's been a stalwart on the blue line this season, and despite the recent drought, is also killing it on the offensive front, with 13 points in 14 games in just over 24 minutes of average ice time.

Habs' Subban On Fire Early

News: P.K. Subban handed out two assists in Thursday's win over the Jackets.
Analysis: After going scoreless in the opener, he's gone on a six-game scoring tear, ripping off 10 points (two goals, eight assists) in that span. There are few (if any) better options on the fantasy blue line at this point.
