Subban Powers Habs With Goal, Assist

News: P.K. Subban scored twice Saturday to lift the Canadiens to a 3-2 win over the Avalanche. The first one came on the power play; the second was the game-winner.
Analysis: He also picked up another minor penalty and we're not all that happy with that. He has 14 PIMs in just six games and that would put him on a path toward a massive career increase in that category. He's more valuable on the ice than in the box, so we'll keep an eye on this one. Hopefully it's just an early-season anomaly.

Montreal's Subban Does It All

News: P.K. Subban scored a goal, took five shots on net, blocked three shots and had two hits in Wednesday night's 4-3 win over the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: P.K. Subban, wearing an "A" on his jersey for the first time in his career, had 25:45 of ice time, which included 3:23 on the power play and 1:58 on the penalty kill.

Canadiens' Subban Stars In Win

News: P.K. Subban earned the first star Thursday night, as he had a hand in all three of Montreal's goals in a 3-2 preseason win over Colorado.
Analysis: P.K. Subban scored a goal, assisted on the other two and had six shots on net while logging a team-high 29:43 of ice time. He was paired with Alexi Emelin on the blue line, a duo that head coach Michel Therrien expects to keep together when the regular season kicks off.

Canadiens' Subban Agrees To Eight-Year Deal

News: P.K. Subban and the Canadiens have agreed to terms on an eight-year contract extension that will run through 2021-22, the team's official website reports.
Analysis: P.K. Subban filed for salary arbitration in July, but the two sides instead opted to work out a long-term deal. While details were not initially made available by the team, it's safe to assume that this will be one of the bigger contracts in the NHL. Per TSN.ca, the deal is worth $72 million over eight years for an AAV of $9 million. From a fantasy perspective, the contract doesn't mean much, as there was never much doubt that Subban would be suiting up for the Canadiens in 2014-15.

Habs' Subban Mum On Contract Negotiations

News: P.K. Subban, who is scheduled to go to salary arbitration Friday, is keeping quiet about salary negotiations with the Canadiens, reports TSN.ca. "I'll answer one question about the negotiation: It's been kept pretty quiet the whole time and it's going to remain that way until a deal's done," he told reporters on Saturday.
Analysis: It's so quiet that no one seems to know if he wants a short- or long-term deal. But it could be one of the biggest in the league once it's inked -- the salary cap is going to rise next year and the next, and he's a recent Norris trophy winner.

Habs' Subban: Big Pay Hike Ahead

News: P.K. Subban has filed for salary arbitration, according to TSN.ca. He can still sign a deal with the Canadiens before his hearing, which will be held somewhere between July 20 and August 4.
Analysis: He's a restricted free agent who is coming off a team-friendly bridge contract. And all he did was win the Norris trophy in Year 1 of the deal and pound home 53 points, including 10 goals, in Year 2. That beeping you hear isn't your smart phone -- it's the sound of a Brinks truck backing up to P.K.'s house. Expect a big-money, long-term deal.

Habs' Subban Silenced In Season-Ending Loss

News: P.K. Subban went scoreless on four shots in Thursday's season-ending Game 6 loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: After recording a sparkling 12 points in 11 games through the first two rounds of the postseason, P.K. Subban found his offensive game choked out by the Rangers' punishing and relentless defensive style. He ended up with just a goal, an assist and a minus-1 rating in the six-game set.

Another Goal For Habs' Subban

News: P.K. Subban notched a power-play goal in Saturday's 4-2 loss in Game 5 of the Canadiens' series against the Bruins. He has 12 points, including four goals, in nine games this postseason.
Analysis: He's the sizzle and the steak -- there are few hotter than Pernell Karl P.K. Subban.

Subban's Two Points Power Habs In Game 3

News: P.K. Subban assisted on Tomas Plekanec's opening goal and made it 2-0 with one of his own in Tuesday's Game 3 win over Boston. He also went plus-1, collected two PIM, blocked two shots and laid two hits.
Analysis: On the negative side, he was charged with a whopping five giveaways in this game -- more than any other three Habs combined. P.K. Subban's now riding a six-game postseason point streak, with a sparkling 11 points (three goals, eight assists) in that span.

Subban Stays Hot, But Habs Fall

News: P.K. Subban continued his torrid postseason with two power-play assists in Saturday's 5-3 loss at Boston. He leads all Montreal skaters with nine playoff points (2G, 7A), all of which have come in the last five contests.
Analysis: Regardless of your postseason fantasy format, you would be well-advised to start him whenever possible.

News: P.K. Subban opened the scoring in Game 1 against Boston with a first-period power-play goal Thursday, then put the winner past Tuukka Rask -- also on the power play -- in the second overtime.
Analysis: The high-flying defenseman's got a four-game postseason point streak going, with a sparkling seven points in that span. Playoff poolies have to be happy.

Habs' Subban Sets Up Game-Winner

News: P.K. Subban had two assists, including one on Brendan Gallagher's game-winning goal, in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Lightning in the third game of their playoff series.
Analysis: P.K. Subban finished with a game-high 28:03 of ice time and was plus-2. His assist on the Gallagher goal was the prettiest play of the game, and perhaps the series, a reminder of Subban's sometimes-sublime play for the Canadiens.

Subban Active In Montreal Win

News: P.K. Subban assisted on two of Montreal's four goals in Friday's Game 2 win over Tampa Bay in their Atlantic Division semifinal series.
Analysis: P.K. Subban created Montreal's second goal with a great outlet pass to Thomas Vanek, who then sprung Rene Bourque. There's little question that Subban will be one of the team's more active offensive players, so look for him to be on the scoresheet often if the Habs are doing well.

Montreal's Subban Benched

News: P.K. Subban was benched for most of the first period after being on ice for the first two Ottawa goals in Friday's 7-4 win over the Senators, the Montreal Gazette reports. He returned for regular shifts in the second period and played a season-low 13:39 and finished minus-3 for the night.
Analysis: P.K. Subban's finding himself in coach Michel Therrien's doghouse as the Habs ramp up for the postseason. Friday's benching occurred one game after Subban's previous season low of time on ice in Tuesday's loss to Tampa Bay. We'll see if this trend continues Saturday against the Red Wings.

Montreal's Subban Gets Season-Low TOI

News: P.K. Subban played a season-low 17:48 and had less even-strength time on ice than all other defenseman in Tuesday night's 3-1 loss to Tampa Bay.
Analysis: We'll look for some follow-up, but we've seen this sort of behavior before. Every now and then, coach Michel Therrien under-utilizes the team's best defenseman as penance for on-ice transgressions. We suspect to see P.K. Subban back to normal minutes Friday night against Ottawa.

Habs' Subban Keeps Helping Out

News: P.K. Subban handed out a pair of assists and went minus-1 in Thursday's win over Detroit.
Analysis: While P.K. Subban's respectably piled up seven assists in his last eight games, he hasn't scored a goal since March 3 -- a span of more than three weeks. Nonetheless, he remains one of fantasy's top defenders.

News: P.K. Subban picked up three assists in Montreal's 5-4 OT win over Ottawa. He has nine points, including seven assists, in his last seven games.

Habs' Subban On Four-Game Streak

News: P.K. Subban assisted on both Montreal goals in Thursday's 5-2 loss to the Coyotes.
Analysis: He's been hot lately, with points in four straight -- two goals, four assists. Though he hits the occasional scoring lull, P.K. Subban should be an everyday fixture in fantasy lineups across all leagues.

Habs' Subban Scores 10th

News: P.K. Subban scored for the second straight game Monday, notching Montreal's lone goal in a 2-1 loss to the Kings. It was his 10th of the season.
Analysis: P.K. Subban should have some fresh legs for the stretch run after being a healthy scratch in all but one game for Team Canada in the Olympics.

Habs' Subban: Power-Play Producer

News: P.K. Subban picked up a goal and an assist, both of which came on the power play, in Saturday's overtime win over the Maple Leafs. He now has a career-best 41 points on the season.
Analysis: The points are his first since his return from the Olympics. And they came in the game that followed an in-game benching by coach Michel Therrien on Thursday night. There's a love-hate relationship between these two, but the trend is pretty clear -- P.K. gets heavier ice time the game after a benching. And he tends to respond with offense.

Habs' Subban Scratched For Sochi Opener

News: P.K. Subban will be a healthy scratch for Team Canada's opening game against Norway on Thursday, Stephen Whyno of the Canadian Press reports.
Analysis: Coach Mike Babcock confirmed P.K. Subban will play in Canada's second game vs. Austria on Friday, with Dan Hamhuis taking his spot as the seventh defenseman Thursday. Subban is one of the best blueliners in the fantasy game because of his offensive output, but his candidacy for the Canadian roster was under much debate due to his occasionally unreliable defense on the penalty kill.

News: P.K. Subban assisted on Montreal's only goal in Friday's loss to Detroit, giving him three points in the last four games.
Analysis: P.K. Subban, like several other of his teammates, finished Friday's game a minus-2. He put four shots on goal and notched an assist and will continue to be an offensive spark for Montreal and a lightning rod for some portions of the media.

Subban Lifts Habs With OT Winner

News: P.K. Subban scored his eighth goal of the season 23 seconds into overtime Thursday in Ottawa.
Analysis: The critical tally came on a brilliant effort by the blueliner, who picked up the puck after Brian Gionta generated a turnover in the Habs' offensive zone, stayed with it despite pressure by two Ottawa defenders, and put it past Craig Anderson to snap a five-game pointless streak and send the Habs to victory.

News: P.K. Subban, who was benched in Montreal's previous game, skated 24:49 in Saturday night's 2-1 overtime win over Chicago. He had one shot, two hits, two minutes in penalties and three giveaways.
Analysis: The time on ice is right around P.K. Subban's season average (25:12) and included nearly five minutes of power play time. Things are back to normal for Subban.

Habs' Subban And Coach Downplay Benching

News: Subban and coach Michel Therrien downplayed the player's benching during the third period of Wednesday night's loss to Philadelphia, the Montreal Gazette reports. Therrien's benching of Subban generated quite a bit of reaction from fans and media in Montreal. "I've got a great relationship with P.K. Subban," the coach said. "We communicate a lot. And he understands our decision, by the way. And he totally agrees."
Analysis: P.K. Subban echoed the coach's words and took the benching in stride, saying his job is not to question but to simply play hockey. It's not the first time he's been the subject of coaching discipline or attention during his time in Montreal, particularly under Therrien, who feels Subban's concentration isn't always there. There was a message sent earlier this season, designed to get Subban's attention. After a Nov. 2 loss to the Avalanche, in which the defenseman was minus-3, Therrien pointed at Subban -- without naming him -- for being partly to blame for the loss. Since that time, Subban is plus-11 and has played the kind of hockey that earned him a spot on the Canadian Olympic team.
