News:Jonathan Toews scored his first goal of the postseason in Saturday's 4-1 win over Detroit. It came on the power play.
Analysis: He was teamed with Patrick Kane and Patrick Sharp to start the game and it seemed to ignite the captain. Line matching also kept him away from Henrik Zetterberg, who had been shutting him down this series. This line matching will be harder in Game 6 in Detroit, but it will be critical if the Hawks are to get to Game 7.
News:Jonathan Toews is expected to be centered with Patrick Kane and Patrick Sharp for the Blackhawks' top line for Game 5 against Detroit of the Western Conference semifinals, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: The trio had only seen sparse time together, but has worked well in the past. The Blackhawks need scoring and they are going to try to put three of their top scorers on one line. We'll see how it goes."
News:Jonathan Toews was taken out of Game 2 as the Red Wings pushed him around in the Blackhawks' 4-1 loss, ESPN Chicago reports.
Analysis: Maybe this will wake up Jonathan Toews, who has not potted a goal in seven postseason games this season. He does have three assists in the last three games, but no goals to show for it. "I'm not going to go off and complain about some calls I thought should have been called or whatever, one way or another," Toews said. "If that's the way they're going to play, well, we need to play the same. There's a lot of clutch and grab, a lot of interference. If they're going to let that go, that's something we need to know and maybe do to them a little bit."
News:Jonathan Toews was named Wednesday as one of the finalists for the Frank Selke Trophy as the best defensive forward in the NHL.

He's played himself into the Hart Trophy discussion as Chicago has established itself as one of the favorites heading into the postseason. Toews is one of the league's elite players - it's a shame there isn't a viable stat for being the top two-way forward around.

Toews is a little bit ahead in scoring compared to his best season in 2010-11 where he scored 32 goals and 44 assists in 80 games. He has 18 goals and 20 assists in 36 games this season. He should add to his scoring tally this season when he takes on Nashville who he has 11 goals and 16 assists in 28 career games.

Hawks' Toews Wasn't Fully Healed From Concussion During Playoffs
News:Jonathan Toews has revealed that he wasn't fully healed from his concussion when he returned to action during last season's playoffs, reports the Chicago Tribune. In fact, he wasn't fully healed until last week.
Analysis: While he was symptom-free and had cleared all of the NHL's protocols before he returned to the Hawks' lineup last spring, he had lingering effects, including balance and eyesight issues that were discovered -- and solved -- at a chiropractic neurology facility last week. "I'm feeling really good now," Jonathan Toews said. "The one thing about this lockout that I've taken advantage of is dealing with that injury first and foremost. I was in Atlanta [at the clinic] to treat things. I'm not saying there were any symptoms I felt 100 percent. But every time you get hit in the head there are some lasting things there that maybe you don't notice ... I'm feeling really good and confident that if I do get hit again it's not such a big deal."

News:Jonathan Toews scored in the third minute of yet another overtime game as the Blackhawks took Game 5 in Phoenix on Saturday night, 2-1.
Analysis: It doesn't seem possible, but this is his first OT tally of the entire season. Analysis: He does it all. That's why he already has a list of accolades that many players never compile in their lifetime. Try two world junior gold medals in 2006 and 2007, NHL All-Rookie Team honors in 2008 and named Hawks captain in 2008. Then in 2010, he brought home the ultimate trio -- Olympic Gold, Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe. His fantasy output can sometimes be streaky but he's one of the best out there.

Others candidates include Ryan Kesler of the Canucks and Detroit's Pavel Datsyuk, who has won the award the past three seasons.
News: Toews recorded a short-handed goal against the Canucks in Tuesday's Game 7, but it wasn't enough as the Blackhawks ultimately were eliminated from the playoffs.

News: Toews, last year's Conn Smythe Trophy winner, has a minus-4 rating with no goals in the quarterfinal playoff series against Vancouver.
Analysis: The Blackhawks managed to climb out of a 3-0 series deficit and force Game 7, which is scheduled for Tuesday evening. However, Toews has failed to put up any points in the last two games, so it will be worth monitoring his play to see if he can revert back to his scoring ways. After all, he did lead Chicago in scoring with 32 goals and 44 assists in the regular season.

News: The Predators held Toews off the scoresheet Saturday, his fifth straight game without a goal.
Analysis: This is starting to become a concern. He has one lonely assist over that span, and has just one tally in the last four weeks. If you're a patient fantasy owner, you should be fine, as he'll eventually pick up the pace. If you like to play the hot hand, you'll need to look elsewhere for now.
News: Toews (shoulder) not only returned to action Monday, but scored the game-winner against the Kings.
Analysis: Toews also added an assist to his point total. The goal was a bit lucky, going in on off his skate.
News: Toews (shoulder) will play against the Kings on Monday, Chicago Sun-Times writer Adam Jahns reports.

News: Toews (right shoulder injury) could return Monday against the Kings, Blackhawks' coach Joel Quenneville told ESPN Chicago.
Analysis: Toews did come out for the two-game West Coast trip. If this is the case, Toews would return a week earlier than expected. Toews skated both Saturday and Sunday. "He skated," Quenneville said. "He skated well. It's a possibility he could play tomorrow [Monday against Los Angeles]."
News: Toews, who suffered a right shoulder injury this past Tuesday, practiced Saturday, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. "It felt pretty good," Toews said afterward. "It's been getting better every day. So that's obviously a good sign."
Analysis: Toews was initially expected to miss two weeks with the injury, but he hopes to beat that timetable. "Obviously, it's not 100 percent," Toews said. "I'm just pretty happy about where it is right now considering what the normal diagnosis is for this injury. It's around two weeks. If it keeps going at this pace, hopefully it will be quicker than that."

Analysis: A little worse than originally thought, but on a positive note it doesn't look like there's any long-term structural damage, either. It's believed to be a shoulder injury, and if that timetable is close to accurate, you're looking at about seven or so missed games of action.
News: Toews' injury (upper-body) that he suffered on Tuesday night against the Blues is not considered serious, the ESPN Chicago reports.

News: Toews scored his 15th goal and added and assist in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Kings.

News: Toews scored and added a helper in Sunday's 4-2 win over Calgary.
Analysis: Chicago was deadly Sunday, scoring all four of its goals with the man advantage. Toews picked up his seventh power-play goal of the season and has 24 points (12G, 12A) in 29 games.
News: Toews scored twice and added an assist in Tuesday's win over the Blues.
Analysis: Toews was in a dreadful scoring slump, with just one goal in his last five games prior to Tuesday. His current goal total (11), is more than respectable, but he's been extremely inconsistent all season long at lighting the lamp.
News: Toews scored a natural hat trick Wednesday to lift the Blackhawks to a 5-0 win over host Edmonton.
Analysis: Toews had not scored a goal in four games before finding the remedy in the Oilers. This puts him close to being back on a point-per-game pace with 17 points in 21 games. Keep him firmly planted to starting rosters.
News: Toews scored two goals and added two assists in regulation, and scored in the shootout, in Saturday's win over the Thrashers.
Analysis: Wow -- what an explosion. This guy has the capacity to pick up his team, put them on his back and carry them to victory, just like he did Saturday. And soon, he'll be elite in fantasy, too. His 14 points in 16 games will soon pace-up to be even better by season's end.
News: Toews registered a power-play goal and an assist in the first period against Columbus on Saturday.
Analysis: His seven points (2G, 5A) after 10 games are a bit behind the pace everyone had expected, but it's a respectable start. If his owner in your league is impatient, you might want to make an inquiring phone call.
News: Toews left the bench for part of Wednesday's game against the Canucks after taking a shot to the mouth with the puck, but returned later for the game, Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Analysis: It obviously did not affect him as he got the only clean goal for Chicago in the shootout as the Blackhawks defeated Vancouver, 2-1. The play came six minutes into the third period when Patrick Sharp's shot from the point appeared to deflect off a Canuck, hitting Toews in the face.
News: Toews had the only clean Chicago goal in the shootout round and helped them to a 2-1 win over visiting Vancouver.
Analysis: Toews continues to prove his shootout dominance with a nifty five-hole goal on Roberto Luongo and rns his record to 9-for-15 in the bonus round. Too bad they don't count in mosst fantasy leagues.
News: Toews notched a goal and an assist Wednesday, but it wasn't enough as the hosts fell 3-2 to the Predators.
Analysis: Toews is an elite option on an offensive squad and should never ride the fantasy pine.
News: Toews did not register a point in Monday's win over Buffalo, but did finish with a plus-3 rating.
Analysis: Toews is worth more to Chicago than to your roster with his leadership, but he still puts together some nice numbers. Even if he does not get on the scoresheet, he's always buzzing around the puck and making things happen.
News: Blackhawks C Jonathan Toews scored and added a pair of assists in Monday's series-clincing Eastern Conference quarterfinals win over the Predators.

News: Blackhawks C Jonathan Toews scored and assisted in Saturday's win over the Blues.
Analysis: In 2009-10, Toews isn't producing quite as well as he was last season, but with 47 points is still doing enough to be worth starting in all Fantasy formats.
News: Blackhawks C Jonathan Toews scored twice in the third period of Saturday's 6-5 win over the Blue Jackets. He also added an assist.
Analysis: Toews is up to 39 points this season and continues to have a stellar campaign. He should be able to set a career high in points if he stays on track, so keep him active as an elite Fantasy forward in all formats.
News: Blackhawks C Jonathan Toews tallied three assists and a plus-1 rating on Sunday against the Predators. He has one goal and five assists in his last three games. He is also at plus-3 in that span and plus-18 on the season.
Analysis: Toews has really turned it up in December with a season-high six goals, eight assists and 14 points. He is making a final statement before the Canadian Olympic roster is announced. Even if Toews is left off, we doubt he will take his foot off the pedal. They call the captain "Mr. Serious" because of his workman-like attitude and it definitely shows up on paper for Toews, who remains a must-start Fantasy option.
News:Jonathan Toews showed Team Canada general manager Steve Yzerman why he'd be a pretty good Olympian -- especially if games are decided by shootouts. Toews scored once in regulation and again in the shootout, leading the Chicago Blackhawks to a 5-4 victory over the Boston Bruins. Toews, who is 10 for 18 on career shootout attempts, said he didn't even know Yzerman was at the United Center scouting players for the Winter Games, which will take place in Vancouver in February. "Every time I've had a chance to play for Team Canada ... it's been an incredible rush knowing millions of people across your country are watching," said Toews, who already has helped win three international gold medals. "It's been an honor so far to just be mentioned. But really, our priority is with our team right now. This season's been going well," Toews said. "I've been slowly getting better and taking on more and more responsibility."
Analysis: The Blackhawks are 14-3-1 since Toews, their 21-year-old captain, returned Nov. 9 after missing six games with a concussion. Of his shootout success, he said: "I've got a couple moves that have been working. I'm trying to use those while they last before anybody can figure them out." Toews has nine goals and 17 points in 18 games since returning from the concussion, so clearly he hasn't suffered any setbacks. They call the captain "Mr. Serious" because of his workman-like attitude and it definitely shows up on paper for Toews, who remains a must-start Fantasy option.
News: Blackhawks C Jonathan Toews scored a key power-play goal during a 2-1 overtime win on Wednesday against the Rangers. Toews chipped in a goal after a scrum in front of the net as Chicago finally got one past Henrik Lundqvist 14:05 into the third period to tie the game at 1. Toews has four goals in his last five games.
Analysis: Now that Toews inked a contract extension, he no longer has to deal with that distraction and can get down to work. He has 13 points (six goals) in his last 14 games and has looked sharp since returning from a concussion. Toews remains a must-start Fantasy option.
News: Looking to the future, the surging Chicago Blackhawks signed three of their top players -- Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane and Duncan Keith -- to lucrative contract extensions Thursday. Kane and Toews, both 21, signed five-year deals reported to be worth $31.5 million each. Keith, a defenseman, got a 13-year contract worth a reported $72 million, making it the richest in team history and surpassing the 12-year, $62.8 million given to Marian Hossa in the offseason. "We are a close group of guys and there's no individual player who is bigger than the team," Keith said. "I would certainly rather have these two guys up here at the same time, as well, and take a little of the spotlight off. I don't mind that at all."
Analysis: The 26-year-old Keith is in his fifth season with the Blackhawks and is known for his durability and speed. He leads the team in average ice time at 26:44 and has five goals and 18 assists to go with a plus-nine rating. Kane, the first pick overall in the 2007 draft, leads the team with 26 points -- nine goals and 17 assists. And Toews, the team captain and the Blackhawks' first-round choice (third overall) in 2006, has six goals and 10 assists. He missed six games this season with concussion-like symptoms after taking a hard hit from Vancouver's Willie Mitchell on Oct. 21. Fantasy owners might worry about all three players taking their foot off the accelerator, but we wouldn't. All three players are very talented skaters and must-start Fantasy options.
News: The Chicago Blackhawks are expected to announce contract extensions for young stars Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews and defenseman Duncan Keith. The team has called a news conference for Thursday afternoon. Kane and Toews, both 21, led the Blackhawks to the Western Conference finals last season. The Blackhawks have the lead this season in the Central division. Kane and Toews are each expected to get new five-year deals. Keith, one of the team leaders in minutes played, is expected to get a 13-year extension.
Analysis: Chicago has been desperately contemplating since the offseason how they would lock up three of their most important assets. It seems they sharpened their pencils and got the deals done. Fantasy owners might worry about all three players taking their foot off the accelerator, but we wouldn't. All three players are very talented skaters and must-start Fantasy options.

News: Blackhawks C Jonathan Toews had his team's lone goal during a 2-1 shootout loss on Saturday against the Kings. Michael Handzus was off serving a holding-the-stick penalty when Toews tied it with 13:04 left in regulation. Jonathan Quick stopped Kane's wrist shot from the top of the right circle, but Toews beat Matt Greene to the rebound. Toews, who led Chicago last season with 34 goals, has four in his last 10 games after missing the previous six because of a concussion.
Analysis: Toews has 10 points in 10 November games and is up to plus-12 on the season. He has definitely put behind him a sluggish start and the injury. It's great news for Fantasy owners who are expecting Toews to carry their team in 2009-10. Continue to start the talented center in all Fantasy formats.
News:Jonathan Toews scored two goals and added an assist as the Blackhawks won their sixth game in a row, knocking off the Edmonton Oilers 5-2 on Saturday. Chicago opened the scoring nearly four minutes in as Patrick Kane took the puck from Ladislav Smid behind the net and passed to Jonathan Toews, who put his own rebound behind Jeff Deslauriers. Toews made it 5-2 when he took a feed from the side boards and sent a shot high glove-side past Deslauriers for his second of the game and fourth of the season.
Analysis: Toews said he is feeling 100 percent again after missing six games because of a concussion. "The last five games, I have felt really good," he said. "I'm not thinking about it one bit." Toews has three goals and four assists since his return, so the numbers show he is playing with a ton of confidence. Toews is not only the Blackhawks captain but one of their most valuable offensive players. Continue to start him in all Fantasy formats.
News:Jonathan Toews was back and so was the firepower that made the Chicago Blackhawks one of the NHL's most dangerous teams in the season's first two weeks. Toews, who had been out with a concussion since Vancouver's Willie Mitchell leveled him on Oct. 21, followed Troy Brouwer's third-period power-play goal with one of his own 3:31 later and the Blackhawks went on to defeat the Los Angeles Kings 4-1 on Monday night. "His presence, the way he plays the game, the way he competes every shift, that's why he's the captain," Blackhawks center John Madden said of Toews. "He's not very vocal. He just leads by the way he plays, by example. It's contagious. If we just follow along and compete as hard as he does, everybody will be all right."
Analysis: The Blackhawks lost three of the six games Toews missed. It had been nearly four weeks since they had scored more than three times in a game, and they hadn't put in more than one power-play goal since the season's second game. "I felt great on the ice," said Toews, who had a team-high 34 goals last season but has only two this year. "If you look at a lot of our games in the past couple weeks, they were low-scoring. We struggled a bit on the power play. That was the difference tonight." Toews, who also was on the ice for Brouwer's goal, energized a power play that had converted on only three of its previous 33 attempts. The Blackhawks had scored but four man-advantage goals at home all season. Toews clearly showed his impact on the ice on Monday and why he is a must-start Fantasy option when healthy.
News: The Chicago Daily Herald reports Blackhawks center Jonathan Toews, who has missed six games with a suspected concussion, is expected to play on Monday against the Kings. Although coach Joel Quenneville wouldn't confirm if Toews would dress on Monday, Toews did practice Sunday on a line with Patrick Sharp and Dustin Byfuglien. He also worked on the power play.
Analysis: Just the other day the Blackhawks said they were taking a cautious approach with Toews. Now, it seems as though he is ready to jump back in the lineup. Practicing on a scoring line is a good indication Toews is close to playing. Consider him a low-risk start for Week 6 (Nov. 9-15), if you choose. He is a high-end Fantasy option when healthy.
News: Chicago was without one of their young stars on Friday against the Avalanche as captain Jonathan Toews missed a sixth straight game with a concussion. Before the game, Chicago coach Joel Quenneville said Toews is "doing much better every day" but the team is taking a cautious approach.
Analysis: The Blackhawks get a few days off before playing again on Monday against the Kings. If Chicago is truly taking a cautious approach, Toews probably won't be on the ice. Consider the high-end Fantasy option an injury-risk start for Week 6 (Nov. 9-15).
News: Chicago C Jonathan Toews did not return to action on Thursday at Phoenix as he continues to return from an upper body injury. He did however skate before the game and could return Friday at Colorado.
Analysis: Toews, the Blackhawks captain, is a must-start Fantasy option in all formats when healthy. Hopefully he will be able to return on Friday against Colorado and won't miss any more time due to injury. If he is back on Friday, get him active in all formats for Fantasy Week 6 (Nov. 9-15).
News: Blackhawks C Jonathan Toews (upper body) returned to practice Wednesday for the first time in two weeks. He could return to action any time soon.
Analysis: Toews, the Blackhawks captain, is a must-start Fantasy option in all formats when healthy, so plan to get him back in your lineup for Week 6 (Nov. 9-15) if he doesn't suffer any setbacks in the next couple of days.
News: Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews missed his fourth straight game because of concussion-like symptoms, sitting out Friday night against Montreal. Toews hasn't resumed skating after a crushing open-ice hit from Vancouver's Willie Mitchell on Oct. 21. Toews is listed as day-to-day. "The progress hasn't been exactly where we wanted it," Chicago coach Joel Quenneville said. "There's been some progress, but at the same time, we're just waiting to see."
Analysis: After Friday, the Blackhawks don't play again until Thursday night at Phoenix, followed by a game the next night at Colorado. Quenneville said Toews will make the trip with the team. "We've got the weekend here and a couple of days next week," Quenneville said. "Hopefully we can get him back on the ice and back out there." Toews, in his third NHL season, has a goal and four assists in nine games. Last season, the 21-year-old center had a team-high 34 goals, and added 35 assists. Toews still is a high-end Fantasy forward when healthy, but is a risky start for Week 5 (Nov. 2-8).
News: Blackhawks C Jonathan Toews was out a third straight game on Thursday against the Predators with what is believed to be a concussion. He is not expected to play on Friday against the Canadiens.
Analysis: It could be a smart move on Chicago's part to keep Toews sidelined since they have five days off after Friday's game. Still, Toews is going to be an injury-risk start for Week 5 (Nov. 2-8) unless we hear some positive news in the coming days. Toews still is a high-end Fantasy forward when healthy.
News: Blackhawks C Jonathan Toews remained sidelined Wednesday as Chicago prepares for their Thursday game at Nashville. He will not play in that contest.
Analysis: Toews is reported to be dealing with concussion-type symptoms and who knows when he'll be back. Continue to stash the usual must-start Fantasy forward in all formats.
News: Blackhawks C Jonathan Toews and D Brent Seabrook each missed a second consecutive game on Monday against the Wild with what are believed to be concussion-related symptoms. Both were hurt in Wednesday's loss to Vancouver and are listed at day-to-day.
Analysis: Toews has started to heat up in his last few games after a slow start to the season. He might need a few extra games to rest, but we doubt this injury will linger for the rest of the season, if it is treated correctly. Toews still is a high-end Fantasy forward when healthy.
News: The Blackhawks recalled C Jake Dowell on Monday, a move that likely means C Jonathan Toews (possible concussion) could be out for an extended period of time.
Analysis: Toews has been out of commission since taking a big hit on Wednesday night and is certainly not worth risking in Fantasy Week 4 (Oct. 26-Nov. 1). Just stash the must-start forward in all formats until we get some clearer news about how long he's likely to be out. Don't worry about Dowell in any league.
News: The Chicago Tribune reports that Blackhawks C Jonathan Toews probably suffered a concussion on Wednesday against Vancouver, taking a big open-ice check from Willie Mitchell. He is considered questionable for Monday against the Wild although coach Joel Quennevile said he is hopeful that Toews would be able to play.
Analysis: Toews is off to a slow start this season with only one goal and four assists. Hopefully he will be able to return on Monday but Fantasy owners should certainly think twice about getting him active for Week 4 (Oct. 26-Nov. 1). When healthy, Toews is a must-start Fantasy option.
News: Blackhawks C Jonathan Toews and D Brent Seabrook both sat out of practice for a second straight day Friday with upper-body injuries.
Analysis: Both of these guys are solid Fantasy options, and could end up playing on Saturday. Keep an eye on their status over the weekend before setting your lineup for Fantasy Week 4 (Nov. 2-8).
News: Blackhawks C Jonathan Toews did not practice on Thursday, one day after leaving a game with an upper-body injury.
Analysis: Toews might still be able to play in Chicago's next game on Saturday, so don't count him out for Fantasy Week 4 (Nov. 2-8) just yet. Toews is a must-start Fantasy option when healthy.
News: Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews was unable to finish Wednesday's game against the Canucks. Several Canucks said Willie Mitchell's big hit on Toews, coming right after Vancouver had killed Chicago's two-man advantage, was the turning point. Mitchell emerged from the penalty box and leveled the unsuspecting Toews, who didn't play the last 14 minutes. "It was a clean hit," Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said. "He didn't see (Mitchell) coming." The team only said Toews sustained an "upper body" injury, with Quenneville adding: "We'll see how he is (Thursday)."
Analysis: The last thing we want to see from Toews is an injury since he really started to settle into a rhythm with four points (one goal) in his previous three games. Toews is somewhat of a slow starter, but he eventually hits his stride and continues to be a must-start Fantasy option when healthy.
News: Blackhawks C Jonathan Toews tallied two assists and finished at plus-1 during Wednesday's game against the Oilers. He has three assists in his last three games, but still no goals on the season.
Analysis: Toews has gotten off to a slow start this season, but he did the same thing in 2008-09 before finishing with a career-high 34 goals and 69 points. Toews should get on a roll shortly, so keep him active in most Fantasy formats. He is a high-end Fantasy option.
News:The Sports Xchange reports C Jonathan Toews is looking forward to the Blackhawks opening the season with two games in Finland, which will conclude a 10-day European trip. "It's going to be crazy," Toews said. "It'll give us a different look, but not everyone is so open-minded about flying over to Europe. It'll be a tough trip. We've got to take care of our bodies."
Analysis: Jet lag is definitely a concern for players when traveling overseas, but it shouldn't be an issue that lingers all season so Fantasy owners shouldn't be overly concerned. Toews really took a step forward in his second NHL season with career highs across the board. He scored 34 goals and added 35 assists while not missing a game all season. He also added 13 points in 17 playoff games. The addition of Marian Hossa will give Toews another talented scorer to play alongside and help take off some of the defensive pressure. Toews remains a high-end Fantasy forward.
News: Blackhawks C Jonathan Toews scored a goal and finished at plus-1 during Sunday's game against the Red Wings. Toews appeared to lose the puck as he approached the left side of the net, cut through the crease and then managed to reach back and jam it under Chris Osgood for his 34th goal and a 2-0 lead at 11:29 of the first period. Toews totaled four goals, two assists and a plus-6 rating in seven April games.
Analysis: A lot of Fantasy owners were worried about the Blackhawks' young captain after he failed to score in 10 October games and posted just six points. He then started to heat up in November with 10 points in 12 games and didn't look back. Toews finished with 69 points in 82 games and continues to develop as one of the NHL's premier two-way centers. Toews will be a decent No. 2 or No. 3 Fantasy forward on Draft Day 2009.
News: Blackhawks C Jonathan Toews scored and assisted in Friday's win over the Predators. He now has 66 points this season.
Analysis: After a slow October, Toews has been a very consistent scorer since then. The Blackhawks' captain has finally lived up to his billing as a high-end Fantasy forward and continues to produce for Fantasy owners in crunch time.
