Devils To Start Schneider On Saturday

News: Cory Schneider will be in the crease Saturday against the Blue Jackets, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Cory Schneider will draw his 11th start in 11 games for the Devils, who have followed through with their pledge to ride the goalie heavily this season. He's been mostly a disappointment thus far with a 2.91 GAA and .906 save percentage, but he fared well in Thursday's turn against the Jets, saving 24 of 25 shots in the shootout win.

Schneider Leads Devils To Shootout WIn

News: Cory Schneider allowed just a single goal on 25 shots and denied all three shootout attempts Thursday to deliver a 2-1 victory over the Jets.
Analysis: A first-period Blake Wheeler goal had Cory Schneider and the Devils trailing almost the whole game until Michael Ryder's goal late in the third tied it up, 1-1. That and a shootout goal turned out to be all Schneider needed. A couple of ugly outings have damaged his ratios in the early going, making him an intriguing buy-low candidate right now.

Devils' Schneider To Start Thursday

News: Cory Schneider will be between the pipes for Thursday's game against the Jets, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Cory Schneider will look to get back on track after giving up five goals in two periods in his last start. He will take on a Winnipeg team that scored four goals its last time out, but has topped two goals just three times through nine games.

Devils' Schneider Pulled Early In Blowout

News: Cory Schneider gave up five goals on 23 shot attempts in Tuesday's loss to the Penguins before he was mercifully pulled before the start of the third period.
Analysis: Cory Schneider owned a 3-1 lead midway through the second period before the Penguins responded with four unanswered goals to chase the goalie from the game. The Devils have started Schneider for all nine of their games this season, but with the goalie struggling to a 3.15 GAA and .901 save percentage, a night off could prove highly beneficial.

Devils' Schneider Starting Tuesday

News: Cory Schneider will start Tuesday's game against the Penguins, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Cory Schneider has started every game for the Devils so far this season, and will get the call in net again Tuesday. He played well last time out, allowing just two goals on 35 shots in a 3-2 win over the Senators.

Devils' Schneider: 33 Saves In OT Win

News: Cory Schneider's 33 saves helped propel the Devils to a 3-2 OT win over the Senators on Saturday night.
Analysis: It was a nice effort to get him back on track after dropping four straight. It's still early; he'll be fine. Go ahead and roll him.

Devils' Schneider Will Start Saturday

News: Cory Schneider will start between the pipes Saturday night against the Senators, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Cory Schneider has dropped his last four decisions but will look to get back on track Saturday against the Sens. The netminder is now 3-2-2 on the season with a .907 save percentage and a goals-against average of 2.93.

Devils' Cory Schneider Suffers Another Loss

News: Cory Schneider gave up two goals on 37 shots in Friday's shootout loss to Dallas.
Analysis: Cory Schneider was phenomenal Friday, but shootout goals from Jason Spezza and Jamie Benn handed the former Canuck his fourth straight loss. Schneider is now 3-2-2 on the season with a .907 save percentage and 2.93 GAA. He has faced a whopping 214 shots through just seven games, surrendering a league-high 20 goals in the process. Schneider is a workhorse in the Devils' crease, but has never played more than 45 games in a season, meaning 2014-15 will be a new challenge for the former backup. If he keeps playing like he did Friday, Schneider will get back in the win column sooner rather than later.

Devils' Schneider To Start Friday

News: Cory Schneider will be back in the crease Friday against the Stars, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Cory Schneider has drawn all seven starts for the Devils thus far, but his first rest of the season could come on Saturday, when the team will complete the second half of their back-to-back set with a game in Ottawa. Though Schneider's overall numbers thus far haven't been inspiring (3-2-1, 3.13 GAA, .898 save percentage), the Devils are committed to giving him one of the league's heaviest workloads in net after inking him to a seven-year, $42 million contract extension in July.

Devils' Schneider Blows Lead In OT Loss

News: Cory Schneider allowed four goals on 25 shots in Tuesday's overtime loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: An early-third-period power-play goal by Jon Merrill gave the Devils a 3-1 lead, but they coughed it up later in the period and then ended up hanging Cory Schneider out to dry on the overtime winner by Kevin Klein. That's three consecutive losses for the 28-year-old netminder, but with Scott Clemmensen backing him up, it might take a bigger slump than that for the Devils to take Schneider out of the net.

Devils' Schneider Will Start Tuesday

News: Cory Schneider will start between the pipes Tuesday against the Rangers, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Cory Schneider is coming off two straight losses in which he gave up a total of eight goals. He'll need to be better if he wants to pick up a win against last year's Eastern Conference champs on Tuesday.

Devils' Schneider Stumbles Saturday

News: Cory Schneider stopped 28 of 31 shots Saturday, but it wasn't enough for him to beat Antti Niemi and the Sharks, who emerged as 4-2 victors in the game.
Analysis: A lack of offense from his supporting cast seemed to be the most legitimate concern for Cory Schneider heading into the season, but instead, it's the goalie hasn't held up to his end of the bargain thus far. Schneider owns a solid 3-2 record even after Saturday's loss, but his middling ratios (2.97 GAA, .908 save percentage) aren't what his fantasy owners signed up for. This could be a good opportunity to buy low on Schneider; with a heavy slate of starts headed his way this season, his ratios should begin to stabilize in a positive way from here.

Devils Go With Schneider For Saturday

News: Cory Schneider will start in net for the Devils on Saturday, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Cory Schneider will start again Saturday coming off a tough performance Thursday in which he allowed five goals on 26 shots before being pulled against the Capitals. Despite the poor performance, Schneider is firmly entrenched as the starting goaltender for the Devils and should continue to receive most of the starts.

Devils' Schneider Gets Hook Thursday

News: Cory Schneider gave up five goals on 26 shots before being pulled in the third period of Thursday's loss to the Capitals.
Analysis: The Devils trailed 3-2 at the second intermission, but Cory Schneider gave up a pair of goals in the first 3:25 of the period, which ended up getting him pulled for Scott Clemmensen. The 28-year-old's been a bit inconsistent so far, with a pair of one-goal outings sandwiched between Thursday's game and the four goals Schneider allowed in the season opener.

Devils' Schneider Goes For Fourth Win Thursday

News: Cory Schneider will be the starting goaltender in Thursday's game against the Capitals, The Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Cory Schneider is off to a fast start in his first season as the Devils' primary goaltender, picking up three wins and giving up just six goals in his first three starts of the year. He will take on a Capitals team that's scored a total of nine goals over its last two games.

Devils' Schneider Saves 26 In Win

News: Cory Schneider delivered his third straight win to open the season Tuesday, stopping 26 of 27 in a 2-1 triumph over the Lightning.
Analysis: Cory Schneider's off to a rip-roaring start, and the Devils haven't even played at home yet. Jersey's offensive output dropped from 11 goals over the first two games to just two on Tuesday, but that was enough. If the Devils can find a happy medium in which they score three or four goals fairly often, Schneider could rack up a lot more wins than expected.

Devils Roll With Schneider On Tuesday

News: Cory Schneider will be in the crease Tuesday against the Bolts, The Record reports.
Analysis: Cory Schneider was often the victim of a lack of offense from his mates last season, but that couldn't be further from the case in his first two turns, as the Devils have supported him with a total of 11 goals in wins over the Flyers and Panthers. With backup goalie Evgeni Nabokov starting for the Bolts on Tuesday, Schneider should have a decent chance at improving his record to 3-0-0.

Devils' Schneider: 28 Saves In Win

News: Cory Schneider made 28 saves in Saturday's 5-1 win over Florida.
Analysis: He won the battle against former mate and arch-rival, Roberto Luongo, who was chased from the game early in the second. He now has two wins and his ratios will improve with this effort. The Devils somehow seem better than we expected, so this could easily be an above-average year for Schnieds.

Devils' Schneider Starting In Net Saturday

News: Cory Schneider will start between the pipes Saturday against the Panthers, Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: Cory Schneider allowed four goals on 39 shots against the Flyers on Thursday, but was bailed out by the Devils scoring six of their own. He is expected to be near the top of the league in starts this season, and Saturday will give the 28-year-old his second opportunity of the season.

Schneider Rides Devils' Offense To Win

News: Cory Schneider allowed four goals on 39 shots Thursday against the Flyers, but was supported with six goals to deliver a season-opening win.
Analysis: This represents one heck of an unusual night for Cory Schneider, who didn't face more than 37 shots in a game all of last season. He didn't blow too many three-goal leads last year either. The last time Schneider had to make this many stops, he was playing for the Canucks. But it's not likely that coach Pete DeBoer has changed the Devils' system so drastically that nights like this will be regular events. Expect Schneider to face many fewer pucks in future starts; his next one should come Saturday at Florida.

Devils' Schneider Receives Nod For Opener

News: Cory Schneider will make the start in goal Thursday versus the Flyers, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: With Martin Brodeur out of the picture, Cory Schneider is likely in line for upwards of 60 to 65 starts this season. If he can continue to deliver sterling ratios (1.97 GAA and .921 save percentage) to go along with the increased volume he'll likely receive in terms of wins and total saves, Schneider could be a legitimate top-10 fantasy goalie this season.

Devils Give Schneider Sunday Off

News: Cory Schneider will not play in Sunday's preseason contest against Philadelphia but is expected to play the final two preseason games next week.
Analysis: Cory Schneider's status as New Jersey's No. 1 netminder is quite secure, but the team is still aiming to figure out who will back up Schenider. Scott Clemmensen and Keith Kinkaid are battling for the No. 2 spot. Schneider is expected play the full 60 minutes in each of the Devils' final two preseason games later this week.

Devils To Rest Schneider Monday

News: Cory Schneider will not play in Monday's preseason opener against the Rangers.
Analysis: Schenider's job as New Jersey's No. 1 netminder is massively secure, but the team needs to figure out who will be their backup netminder this season. That contest is between Scott Wedgewood, Keith Kinkaid and Maxime Clermont, two of whom will begin the season in the AHL. Schenider had some of the best peripheral statistics among NHL starting goaltenders last season despite just 16 wins in 45 games. He's a safe option after the netminders who will pile up wins are snagged.

Devils, Schneider Come To Terms On Seven-Year Deal

News: Cory Schneider signed a seven-year, $42 million extension with the Devils on Wednesday, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: After entering his first season in a timeshare in goal with franchise icon Martin Brodeur, Cory Schneider quickly established himself as the Devils' No. 1 netminder of the present and future. He finished with elite ratios (1.97 GAA, .921) and likely would have garnered more Vezina buzz had a middling Devils attack not stuck him with a so-so 16-15-12 record. With Schneider set to enter his age-29 season, the Devils will likely have him for the peak years of his goaltending abilities during the life of his contract.

Devils Aiming For Schneider Contract Extension

News: The Devils are hoping to sign Cory Schneider to a contract extension before he becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2015, the Newark Star-Ledger's Rich Chere reports.
Analysis: With the departure of Martin Brodeur all but assured come July, it would behoove the Devils to lock up Cory Schneider long term given the penchant for free agents to bolt from Newark. Schenider had outstanding averages this past season (1.97 GAA and .921 save percentage) but was a victim of poor goal support and flat-out bad luck at times, as his 16-15-12 record would support. Despite the Devils being a slightly inconsistent team, Schneider should be a safe pick this fall with him pretty much assured the bulk of starts.
