Devils' Schneider Stops 31, Falls In Shootout

News: Cory Schneider's snakebitten season continued Thursday, as he allowed just one goal on 32 shots, only to take a shootout loss to the Senators.
Analysis: Cory Schneider's allowed just one goal in five of his last six starts, and yet he's won just two of those games. So he's hot... but he's cold. In just 44 games (42 starts), Schneider's taken 12 overtime losses and another 15 in regulation. This despite a spectacular GAA that's now a shade under 2.00 and a .921 save percentage.

New Jersey's Schneider Gets Thursday Start

News: Cory Schneider is slated to start Thursday's game against the Senators, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Though Cory Schneider dropped a 1-0 decision to the Flames on Monday, he has won two of his last three turns, while surrendering just one goal in each of those contests.

Devils' Schneider Lets In One In Loss

News: Cory Schneider made 21 saves on 22 shots but took the loss against the Flames on Monday.
Analysis: While Cory Schneider got stuck with a loss here, he's let in only one goal in his last three starts.

New Jersey's Schneider Gets Monday Start

News: Cory Schneider is slated to start Monday's game against the Flames, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Cory Schneider, who has won his last two starts -- giving up just one goal in each of those outings -- will be making his fourth start in a row for New Jersey.

Devils' Schneider: Back-To-Back Wins

News: Cory Schneider stopped 26 pucks in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Hurricanes.
Analysis: He has wins on back-to-back nights and he's allowed just two goals in two games. Does this mean he's getting into a groove as the starter? It sure looks like that. Deploy him accordingly.

Schneider In Goal Saturday For Devils

News: Cory Schneider is slated to get his third-consecutive start Saturday when the Devils travel to Carolina, the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti reports. He's allowed four goals in his last three starts.
Analysis: The Devils enter Saturday's games only three points out of the wild-card spots occupied by Detroit and Columbus and Cory Schneider has given the team a tremendous chance to win his last four appearances. The Devils have four games left after Saturday's tilt, so if Schneider plays well Saturday, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him garner three of them.

Schneider Backstops Devils

News: Cory Schneider stopped all but one of the 25 shots he faced in Friday's 2-1 win over Washington, He's allowed four goals in his last three starts.
Analysis: The win was Cory Schneider's first in three starts, as he had dropped his last two starts in a shootout. In his last four appearances he has been rather solid, as he relieved Martin Brodeur on Monday, stopping all 13 shots he faced. Schneider likely will see a start or two in the season's final week as the Devils essentially need to be perfect to stay in the playoff hunt.

Devils Rolling With Schneider On Friday

News: Cory Schneider will be in goal Friday against the Capitals, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Even though he's taken two straight losses, Cory Schneider appears to have gotten back on track after struggling coming out of the Olympic break. He's stopped 57 of the last 60 shots he's faced against admittedly inferior competition in the Sabres, Panthers and Islanders. Schneider will need some more offensive support from his mates if he hopes to take down the Capitals.

Schneider, Devils Take Another Shootout Loss

News: Cory Schneider halted 25 of 27 shots Tuesday in Buffalo, but ended up with a loss in a nine-round shootout.
Analysis: So it's gone for the Devils (who remain winless in shootouts) and Cory Schneider this year. He's just 14-14-11 -- that's 25 losses! -- despite a GAA that's hovered around 2.00 all season long. And he's taken losses in five of his last seven decisions.

Schneider Starts For New Jersey On Tuesday

News: Cory Schneider will start Tuesday's game against the Sabres, according to The Record's Tom Gulitti.
Analysis: Martin Brodeur gets the starting nod for New Jersey on Monday against the Panthers, with Cory Schneider starting Tuesday in the second of the team's back-to-back contests.

Schneider Starting Saturday For Devils

News: Cory Schneider will start Saturday's contest against the Islanders, according to the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti.
Analysis: This is Cory Schneider's first start since earning a win against Toronto last Sunday. The Devils seem to be employing a rotating goalie strategy between Schneider and Brodeur after Schneider squandered the momentum he'd built up prior to the Olympic break. Schneider hasn't been the greatest of options in March, but the Devils are still clinging to a vestige of playoff hope and he's in a good spot against the Islanders, even with the usual busy slate of Saturday games.

Devils' Schneider Stops 21 In Win

News: Cory Schneider made 21 saves on 23 shots in a win over the Maple Leafs on Sunday.
Analysis: Cory Schneider has been going through a rough patch, so it is encouraging to see him have a game like this. He's still in the top five in GAA, so it hasn't been all bad.

Devils Start Schneider On Sunday

News: Cory Schneider will be in goal for the Devils when they face Toronto on Sunday, Rich Chere of the Newark Star Ledger reports.
Analysis: Cory Schneider has endured a bit of a rough stretch lately, allowing 20 goals in his last five games. But with Martin Brodeur having played Saturday, it's Schneider's turn between the pipes. Despite the heavy goals-against recently, he still has a 2.14 GAA and .914 save percentage over 37 appearances this year.

Unimpressive Stats In Win For Devils' Schneider

News: Cory Schneider put up just an .870 save mark Thursday, stopping 20 of 23 against the Wild, but came away with an overtime win.
Analysis: The way things have been going for Cory Schneider -- loser of four of his last five coming into Thursday's action -- he's got to be happy about this result. It's nice to see the Devils score some goals in support of the Massachusetts native -- with his 2.14 GAA on the year, he deserves a better fate than his current 13-14-9 record.

New Jersey's Schneider Gets Thursday Start

News: Cory Schneider will start Thursday's game against the Wild, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Cory Schneider, who gave way to Martin Brodeur in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to Boston, will be looking to bounce back Thursday after losing his last three games, while giving up 15 goals in that span.

Devils, Schneider Roughed Up

News: Cory Schneider allowed four goals on 21 shots in Friday's 5-3 loss to Florida, his second consecutive loss. Schneider has allowed 11 goals in his last two starts.
Analysis: Florida iced the game with an empty-netter but Cory Schneider has not looked terribly great since the Olympic break. He was hung out to dry on a few of the goals Friday, but Schneider is not playing consistently well enough to earn starts the way he was before the Olympics, where he started six consecutive games. If Martin Brodeur plays well Saturday against Tampa Bay, Schneider likely will see less of a role as the Devils battle for a playoff spot.

Devils To Start Schneider On Friday

News: Cory Schneider will be in the crease Friday against the Panthers, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Cory Schneider has been a spectator for the Devils the last two games since his seven-goal debacle against the Red Wings, but he'll get the call Friday. With a full week to reflect on the embarrassing outing, Schneider should be highly motivated to deliver a strong performance against the slumping Panthers.

Schneider Sitting Tuesday For Devils

News: Martin Brodeur, and not Cory Schneider, will start Tuesday's contest against Philadelphia, marking the second-consecutive game in which Brodeur will start, the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti reports.
Analysis: Cory Schneider had a rough outing last Friday in a 7-4 loss to Detroit, but Martin Brodeur hasn't played terribly better, allowing four goals in last Saturday's win over Carolina. Neither netminder is proving highly effective of late, but the Olympic break snapped a string of solid play from Schneider, who will have started on three of the team's seven games since the break after Tuesday.

Devils' Schneider Gives Up Seven Goals Friday

News: Cory Schneider stopped just 26 of 33 shots during the Devils' 7-4 loss to the Red Wings on Friday.
Analysis: The seven goals against were a career-worst for Cory Schneider who looked helpless against the Red Wings' high-octane attack. It was a rare disaster for the 27-year-old netminder who had allowed just 10 goals in his previous five games and had a 1.92 GAA prior to Friday. Though he seemed upbeat in coping with the loss, he'll probably take a seat in favor of Martin Brodeur for Saturday's game against the Hurricanes.

Schneider Starts For New Jersey On Friday

News: Cory Schneider will start Friday's game against the Red Wings, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
Analysis: Moreover, Martin Brodeur, who will now finish up the season with the Devils despite rumors circulating that he would be dealt by the team in advance of the NHL's trade deadline, is on track to start Saturday's game against the Hurricanes.

Devils' Schneider Lets In Four In Loss

News: Cory Schneider let in four goals on 22 shots in a loss to the Sharks on Sunday.
Analysis: Cory Schneider had let in two goals or less in his last four games, and he is second in the league in GAA, so there's not a reason to worry.

Devils' Schneider To Start Sunday

News: Cory Schneider will be in the crease Sunday against the Sharks, Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: After watching Martin Brodeur cruise to an easy 6-1 win over the Islanders on Saturday, Cory Schneider will get the nod in the second half of the back-to-back against a much more formidable Sharks squad. Schneider hasn't faced San Jose while with the Devils, but he has plenty of familiarity with the opponent during his time with the Canucks. Unfortunately, Schneider lost all five of his starts against the Sharks last season, including two postseason contests in which he was pummeled for a total of nine goals.

Devils' Schneider Picks Up Win In Return To Action

News: Cory Schneider stopped 17 of 19 shots as the Devils cruised to a 5-2 win over the Blue Jackets on Thursday.
Analysis: The .894 save percentage is far below what we're accustomed to seeing from the goalie, but if anyone deserves to have his offense pick him up every once in a while, it's Cory Schneider. He ranks second in the league in GAA and fifth in save percentage, but only has a 12-11-9 record to show for it.

Schneider Starts For New Jersey On Thursday

News: Cory Schneider will start Thursday's game against the Blue Jackets, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.

Devils' Schneider: Hot In Loss

News: Cory Schneider threw down yet another strong performance Saturday, making 23 saves in a 3-1 loss to the Capitals. He allowed just a single goal.
Analysis: Cory Schneider has been one of the best statistical goalies in the NHL this season, but he just hasn't been able to pick up wins. He'll have time to recharge his batteries during the Olympic break and come back even stronger. Saturday's game was his 31st start which is the most of any full season.
