Clay Wilson: Heading To KHL

News: Clay Wilson has signed a one-year deal to play in the KHL, the Calgary Sun reports.
Analysis: Clay Wilson was an up-and-coming prospect in the Calgary organization, but with the abundance of depth the Flames have at defenseman, he decided the KHL would be the best place to hone his skills in 2012-13. He should be back in the NHL at some point, however, although not necessarily with Calgary, as the Flames voided his contract.

Flames' Wilson Assigned To AHL

Analysis: Clay Wilson played in two games with Calgary, scoring no points in the process. He is a depth guy at most, and likely won't be back in the bigs again this season.

Flames Recall Wilson

Analysis: Clay Wilson put up an impressive six goals and 14 assists in 32 games with Abbotsford this season, but he has just eight points (4G, 4A) in 31 career NHL games over five seasons. He'll provide depth on the Flames' blue line with several defensemen out with injuries.

Clay Wilson

Wilson joins Panthers organization

News: On Thursday, the Panthers announced that defenseman Clay Wilson had signed a two-year contract.
Analysis: Wilson appeared in two games for the Thrashers last season, recording no points. He has pretty much been a career minor leaguer with a few brief NHL appearances. Wilson is merely organizational depth and can be ignored Fantasy Draft Day 2009.

Wilson makes Thrashers' debut

News: The Sports Xchange reports D Clay Wilson, who came to Atlanta in a January trade that sent Jason Williams to Columbus, made his Thrashers' debut in Tuesday's loss to Washington. Wilson managed two shots, one hit and didn't record a single giveaway over 14:51 of ice time.
Analysis: Wilson has primarily been a career minor leaguer, but has had success at times in the AHL. He just hasn't been able to impress the NHL brass. He has little to no Fantasy value.

Wilson sent back to Syracuse

News: The Columbus Blue Jackets called up center Mike York from their American Hockey League affiliate on Friday, and assigned defenseman Clay Wilson to the Syracuse Crunch. York adds depth at forward, where the Blue Jackets are without the injured Jason Chimera and Derick Brassard.
Analysis: The 25-year-old Wilson had an assist in five games with the Blue Jackets after being recalled by the club on Dec. 5. They tried to transition him to forward, but it didn't go as planned. Wilson has little to no Fantasy value.

Wilson helps spark power play

News: The Sports Xchange reports to spark their moribund power play, the Blue Jackets turned to a player with seven NHL games on his resume. Defenseman Clay Wilson, called up from minor-league Syracuse after Thursday's loss in San Jose, made his season debut with the Blue Jackets on Sunday in Anaheim. He played the point on the Blue Jackets' No. 1 power play unit opposite veteran Fedor Tyutin, earning an assist on Derick Brassard's power-play goal.
Analysis: Wilson could also see time at forward for the Blue Jackets. Coach Ken Hitchcock wants him to have a solid week of practice before he plays on the left wing, however. Last season, Wilson played in seven games with the Blue Jackets. He had one goal, one assist and a plus-3 rating. Wilson had 15 points (eight goals) in 23 games for the Crunch before his recall. His offensive game has really come along in the minors, but the fact he has been a career minor leaguer doesn't help his cause. Consider him a wait-and-see Fantasy project.

Wilson could dress at forward

News: The Sports Xchange reports the Blue Jackets recalled defenseman Clay Wilson from minor-league Syracuse (AHL), and it looks like he won't sit around for long. Expect Wilson to dress at forward on Sunday when the Blue Jackets play in Anaheim.
Analysis: Wilson had 15 points (eight goals) in 23 games for the Crunch. His offensive game has really come along in the minors, but the fact he has been a career minor leaguer doesn't help his cause. He has little to no Fantasy value at this time.

Jackets have abundance of defenseman

News: The Sports Xchange reports one of the interesting plot lines of training camp for the Blue Jackets will be how the defensive pairs will settle. Columbus coach Ken Hitchcock has said he wants to pair Mike Commodore with Jan Hejda and Rostislav Klesla with Fedor Tyutin, but the third pair remains a mystery. In the mix for the two spots are Christian Backman, Kris Russell, Ole-Kristian Tollefsen, Aaron Rome, Clay Wilson and Marc Methot.
Analysis: It almost seems logicial that Tollefsen will make the team out of camp because he is one of the Blue Jackets' top enforcers. He might not play every night, so that's where the other guys come into play. Regardless, Backman, Russell, Rome, Wilson and Methot are all expected to rotate in 2008-09, so they remain poor Fantasy options. Tollefsen, however, is a viable Fantasy option in leagues that reward heavily for PIM.

Wilson re-ups with Blue Jackets

News: The Columbus Blue Jackets signed defenseman Andrei Plekhanov to a two-year contract and defenseman Clay Wilson and left wing John Vigilante to one-year deals on Tuesday. Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Analysis: Wilson, acquired in a trade with Anaheim last November, had one goal and one assist in seven games with Columbus last season. Wilson might bounce between the NHL and AHL all season in 2008-09 and can be ignored in Fantasy leagues until further notice.

Clay Wilson scores first NHL goal

News: Clay Wilson had a goal and his first assist in his NHL second game to lead the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 4-0 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday night.
Analysis: Wilson, a defenseman called up Tuesday from Syracuse of the American Hockey League, assisted on the power-play goal by Joakim Lindstrom at 4:49 of the second and he made it 2-0 off a centering pass from Nikolai Zherdev at 7:13 of the third. Wilson has no Fantasy value at this time.

News: The Anaheim Ducks sent Bobby Bolt, Joe Callahan, Stephen Dixon, Andrew Ebbett, Brett Festerling, Mike Hoffman, Shane Hynes, Matt Keith, Dan LaCouture, Jean-Philippe Levasseur, Brendan Mikkelson, Brian Salcido and Clay Wilson to Portland of the AHL on Wednesday.
Analysis: The team also released Tyler Bouck and assigned youngsters Maxime Macenauer to Rouyn-Noranda of the QMJHL and Eric Tangradi to Belleville of the OHL to the juniors. None of the players mentioned above are worthy of any Fantasy consideration.
