Lightning Sign Stralman

News: Anton Stralman has signed a five-year, $22.5 million deal with the Lightning, TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: Anton Stralman gets a nice payday from the Lightning, who'd made a point of freeing up cap space in advance of free agency. Though he notched just 13 points in 81 games this past season, Stralman impressed during the Rangers' playoff run, and it's worth noting that he did total 34 points for Columbus in 2009-10. Given the terms of his deal, it's clear that Tampa Bay has big plans for the right-shooting blueliner.

Report: Rangers Offer Stralman $4 Mil Per Season?

News: The Rangers have offered Anton Stralman a three- or four-year contract worth about $4 million a season, according to NBC Sports.
Analysis: Anton Stralman is a dream for those who monitor advanced stats and he played well in the postseason. The market for defenders is thin this free agent period, so Stralman will get a truckload of coin.

Rangers' Stralman Moving Target?

News: Anton Stralman registered a plus-4 rating with five points -- all assists -- in 25 games this postseason.
Analysis: Not too shabby, considering it took the veteran 81 games to tally 13 points (one goal) in the regular season. Anton Stralman, who became a top-four defenseman during the course of the Blueshirts' season en route to the Stanley Cup finals, is likely to be one of the most courted unrestricted free-agent blueliners of the summer following his impressive shutdown performance in the playoffs. Although the 27-year-old's all-around game has really improved, he's not likely to reproduce the 34-point campaign he had with Columbus in 2009-10.

Rangers' Stralman Postseason Numbers Cooling Off

News: Anton Stralman has been held without a point in seven consecutive games.
Analysis: Although he's logging top-four minutes nowadays, it appears his five assists in the first 13 games of the postseason was an aberration. The 27-year-old Swede, who collected a plus-3 with 13 points in 81 regular season games, is much more known for his stay-at-home play, so this shouldn't come as a surprise to most fantasy owners.

Stralman to Join Rangers' Power Play?

News: Anton Stralman took line rushes with the power play unit in Sunday's practice, reports Andrew Gross of The Record.
Analysis: This is a bit surprising considering the odds-on favorite to replace an ineffective John Moore on the power play has been Marc Staal, especially since head coach Alain Vigneault flat out answered no to Anton Stralman joining the man advantage yesterday. There's no guarantee Stralman plays on the power play in Game 2, but it's looking more likely.

Rangers' Stralman Comfortable in Top Four

News: Anton Stralman picked up an assist in Wednesday's Game 7 victory over Philadelphia.
Analysis: The helper came on Benoit Pouliot's eventual game-winning goal and marked the Swede defenseman's second point (both assists) in as many games. Although Anton Stralman is much more known for his stay-at-home prowess, he's entrenched as a top-four defenseman and has been getting some solid looks as a result. The 27-year-old finished the seven game series versus Philadelphia with six shots, two assists, four penalty minutes and a plus-3 rating.

Rangers' Stralman Nets Rare Points

News: Anton Stralman picked up a pair of assists and went plus-3 in Tuesday's win over the Hurricanes.
Analysis: Nice to see, but these are rare points for Anton Stralman -- he's got just 13 in 79 games this season. Though he does have some offensive skill, that's not really his role on this Rangers team.

Rangers' Stralman Factors Into Win

News: Anton Stralman notched two assists in Friday's 3-1 win over Columbus, giving him 10 points on the season.
Analysis: Anton Stralman has been quiet offensively this season, but factored into the team's victory on Friday. He's relied on more to shut down the opposition than to create offense, so don't look at Friday's stat line as a sign of more to come.

Rangers' Stralman Given Practice Off

News: Anton Stralman was off the ice for Monday's practice due to a sore leg, Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Coach Alain Vigneault seemed to describe Anton Stralman's absence as a maintenance day more than an actual injury, so expect the defenseman to be in the lineup Tuesday vs. the Senators. Stralman blocked a shot with his leg in Sunday's loss to the Sharks.

Rangers' Stralman Back In Action Sunday

News: Anton Stralman (leg) logged 19:04 of ice time in Sunday's win over the Red Wings.
Analysis: Anton Stralman was having difficulty putting weight on his leg after Friday's game against the Hurricanes, but it evidently wasn't a concern by the time Sunday rolled around. His playing time was in line with what fantasy owners have been accustomed to seeing from him, as were the two hits and a blocked shot he provided in the victory.

Stralman: Not A Medical Issue For Rangers

News: Anton Stralman, who was observed having trouble 'putting weight on his right leg' during Friday's win, doesn't have a serious 'physical/medical issue' reports Andrew Gross of The Bergen Record.
Analysis: After taking a puck to the leg on a shot by Alexander Semin, the language about his status is vague. With recent acquisitions on the right-handed side of the blue line (Kevin Klein, Raphael Diaz) head coach Alain Vigneault has the luxury of giving Anton Stralman rest, but it doesn't appear to be necessary. Consider him day-to-day.

Rangers' Stralman Love Playing The Oilers

News: Anton Stralman has a goal and four assists in five career games against Thursday night's opponent, the Edmonton Oilers.
Analysis: The top-four defenseman is obviously more widely known for his stay-at-home skills. While five games is not a large sample, Anton Stralman is a plus-11 with a goal and two assists over his last four games, and Edmonton isn't known for any sort of top-notch netminding. Don't be surprised if he continues his aggressive play in Thursday's tilt as the Rangers look to make it five wins in a row.

Rangers' Stralman Finally Scores

News: Anton Stralman scored his first goal of the year and went plus-3 in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Avalanche.
Analysis: More important than his goal and two assists in over the last four games is Anton Stralman's eye-popping plus-11 over that same span. If you're in a deep league and you're willing to roll the dice, Stralman's career numbers suggest he starts joining the offensive zone more during the months of February and March.

Rangers' Stralman Collects Two Assists

News: Anton Stralman was plus-4 and collected two helpers in Sunday's 7-3 win over New Jersey.
Analysis: The points stop a 16-game point-scoring drought for the Swedish blueliner. While Anton Stralman's place among New York's top four defensemen gives him plenty of opportunity for points, the veteran doesn't often get involved in the offensive zone. When he does jump into the play, though, he can flash the skills to produce.

Rangers' Stralman Will Play Tuesday

News: Rangers coach Alain Vigneault confirmed Anton Stralman (wrist) will play Tuesday against the Panthers, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.
Analysis: He will return to the third defensive pairing, joining Conor Allen. Anton Stralman missed only one game due to the wrist injury. While his return to the lineup won't impact many fantasy owners, it signals a change on the team's depth chart. John Moore has seen a steady increase of ice time and should be added to your radar.

Rangers' Stralman Hopes To Play Tuesday

News: Anton Stralman (wrist) is hoping to play Tuesday against the Panthers, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.
Analysis: Though Anton Stralman won't be able to go Sunday, he is hoping to return in short order after an X-ray on his injured left wrist came back negative. Conor Allen will step into the lineup Sunday for his NHL debut.

Rangers' Stralman Out Sunday

News: Anton Stralman (undisclosed) will not play Sunday against the Lightning.
Analysis: Much to his credit, Anton Stralman tried to convince the coaching staff that he could go in morning skate, but it was unrealistic to think he could play two days after suffering the injury. Conor Allen will slot into the lineup Sunday in his NHL debut.

Rangers' Stralman Skates Sunday Morning

News: Anton Stralman (undisclosed) took part in Sunday's morning skate, Andrew Gross of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: An undisclosed injury forced Anton Stralman from Friday's game, and he was unable to practice Saturday, but his return to the ice Sunday morning is a good indicator that the injury is not especially serious. Stralman did stay on the ice with the rest of the scratches after the healthy players left the ice, however, so his status for Sunday's tilt against the Lightning is looking doubtful.

Rangers' Stralman Misses Practice

News: Anton Stralman (undisclosed) wasn't on the ice for Saturday's practice, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.
Analysis: Unsurprisingly, Anton Stralman was a spectator a night after he was forced to leave the game with an undisclosed injury. The Rangers haven't elaborated much on the extent or nature of his injury, and it would seem doubtful he plays Sunday against Tampa Bay.

Rangers' Stralman Leaves With Injury Friday

News: Anton Stralman left Friday's game against the Capitals with an undisclosed injury and will not return, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.
Analysis: Anton Stralman left with an injury in the first period of Friday's game. He had recorded 3:17 of ice time in the game before leaving. In 38 games this year, he has four assists and 16 penalty minutes. He should be considered day-to-day until more information is announced regarding his status.

Rangers' Stralman Makes Contribution

News: Anton Stralman had an assist and nearly 21 minutes of TOI in Saturday's 5-2 win over Vancouver.
Analysis: If Anton Stralman continues to log minutes alongside Marc Staal, he's capable of posting 25-30 points in a season, but he's not likely to garner any power play time. Stralman also had two hits and two blocked shots in the win. It's the veteran defenseman's first point since November 6 and just third of the season.

Rangers' Stralman Remains Quiet

News: Anton Stralman had a minus-1 rating with one hit and one takeaway in a 3-2 win over the Islanders on Tuesday.
Analysis: After contributing offensively in spurts during the lockout shortened season, the former Maple Leafs defenseman is a minus-5 with just one assist and 8 minutes in the sin bin. To boot, it would take a few serious injuries for Anton Stralman to break out of the third blue line pairing in New York, so he isn't likely to be useful to most fantasy owners.

Rangers' Stralman Securing Role

News: Anton Stralman has secured a top-six spot on the Rangers' blue line during training camp, Newsday reports.
Analysis: A facial fracture and separated shoulder he suffered in the playoffs were rested over the course of the offseason, and Anton Stralman hasn't faced any known limitations throughout camp.

Rangers' Stralman Has Facial Fracture

News: Anton Stralman's injury has officially been characterized as a facial fracture and a separated shoulder, the New York Daily News reports.
Analysis: Anton Stralman was scratched for Games 4 and 5 of the second-round series with the Bruins with an undisclosed injury, but it's now clear that it stemmed from a hit he took from the Bruins' Milan Lucic in the second period of Game 3. The 26-year-old blueliner will have a full offseason to heal both injuries and should be cleared for contact before training camp begins.

Rangers' Stalman Out For Game 5

News: Anton Stralman (undisclosed) will not play in Saturday's Game 5 against the Bruins, Newsday's Steve Zipay reports.
Analysis: Anton Stralman will sit for the second game in a row, after taking a hard hit from Boston's Milan Lucic in Game 3. The Rangers have not commented on the extent or nature of the injury.
