Auld Leaving the NHL for Europe

News: Alex Auld has signed a contract on Tuesday with EC Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian Hockey League, according to the team's website.
Analysis: Alex Auld leaves the NHL with a 91-88-2-30 record and a .904 save percentage in 237 career games.

Sens' Auld Faces 37 Shots In Loss

News: Alex Auld made 33 saves in a 5-3 loss to Boston on Saturday. He allowed four goals.
Analysis: The score was closer than the game was -- the Sens roared back late in the third to draw within one. He and Robin Lehner will be the Sens' answer between the pipes going forward after Craig Anderson's surgery ... unless a trade is forthcoming. He'll need to be better than he was Saturday.

Sens' Auld To Start Saturday

News: Alex Auld will start in goal Saturday against Boston, Wayne Scanlan of the Ottawa Citizen reports.
Analysis: The Ottawa backup has a 3.28 GAA and a .883 save percentage in 13 games this season. You may want to avoid having him in your lineup against one of the Eastern Conference's toughest teams, though at least he'll be backing a rested team against one that plays against the Sabres on Friday.

Sens' Auld Picks Up Spot Win

News: Alex Auld allowed three goals on 27 shots to defeat Nashville on Thursday, only his second win of the season.
Analysis: His night was ruined from a statistical standpoint by Martin Erat's goal with 10 seconds remaining, but it wasn't enough to bring the Preds back. Alex Auld has started just seven games this year and hasn't put up much in the way of stats, so his fantasy value is quite marginal.

Sens Go With Auld Thursday

News: Alex Auld is slated to start Thursday's game against the Predators, James Gordon of the Ottawa Citizen reports.
Analysis: Alex Auld, who replaced Craig Anderson (who has started 49 games to date) early in Tuesday's loss to the Blues, will be making just his seventh start of the season.

Sens' Auld Stops Eight In Relief

News: Alex Auld came in for Craig Anderson on Monday, stopping all eight shots in faced in 20 minutes.
Analysis: Anderson leads the league in games played, so Alex Auld is getting very sparse playing time, and when he's been in net, he's struggled. He's not even worth a spot start.

Senators Go With Auld On Friday

News: Alex Auld will start in goal against the Flames on Friday, according to TSN.ca.
Analysis: This was perhaps expected after Alex Auld relieved an ineffective Craig Anderson during Tuesday's 6-1 loss to Montreal and stopped 19 of 21 shots in relief. This will be Auld's sixth start of the season, compared to 31 for Anderson. Both goalies have pretty sad numbers so far, with Auld putting up an .880 save percentage and 3.49 GAA to date.

Sens' Auld Average In Relief Duty

News: Alex Auld stopped 19 of 21 shots in relief of Craig Anderson during Tuesday's 6-1 loss to Montreal.
Analysis: Alex Auld was pressed into service after Anderson was awful to start the game, allowing four goals on seven shots. Auld has not seen and, likely, will not see many starts despite Anderson's woeful effort Tuesday. Regardless, Auld has a 1-3-2 record on the season and there are more solid options for those looking for a spot start in daily leagues.

Auld Starting For Sens Friday

News: Alex Auld will give Craig Anderson a breather and start in net for the Senators on Friday, according to Nicolas St-Pierre.
Analysis: Alex Auld has made only four starts on the year, and he's performed poorly so far this season with a .875 save percentage. Oddly, he has a strong career record against the Penguins including a 5-1 record with a 2.06 GAA.

Auld, Sens Cough Up Lead

News: Alex Auld allowed four goals on 31 shots in Thursday's 5-4 loss to New Jersey and stopped one of four shootout attempts.
Analysis: Alex Auld wasn't entirely to blame as the Senators saw a 3-0 lead evaporate early in the third period and the team did surrender two shorthanded goals. Auld remains winless on the season and efforts like Thursday's won't see him starting too often, especially with Craig Anderson on the roster. Auld has started just four games this season.

Auld Makes Rare Start Thursday For Sens

News: Alex Auld will face Martin Brodeur and the Devils Thursday, according to Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger.
Analysis: Alex Auld will be making just his fourth start of the year as the Senators have relentlessly tabbed Craig Anderson for duty. Don't expect that to change any time soon for the Sens.

Senators' Auld Lets In Two, Loses

News: Alex Auld made 25 saves on 27 shots, but still picked up a loss against Vancouver on Sunday in overtime.
Analysis: Alex Auld was terrible in his prior appearances this season, and there is no reason to believe in him after one nice start.

Sens' Auld Returns To Backup Duties Soon

News: Alex Auld will likely back up Craig Anderson for Friday's game against Montreal reports the Ottawa Citizen's Ken Warren.
Analysis: After sitting out the last few games with an undisclosed injury, head coach Paul MacLean told reporters that Alex Auld should be able to back up Anderson on Friday night. This also means that Robin Lehner will be sent back to Binghamton of the AHL very soon.

Senators' Auld Out Saturday

News: Alex Auld will not be available for Saturday's game due to an undisclosed injury, the Canadian Press reports.
Analysis: Robin Lehner was recalled to back up Craig Anderson in Saturday's game. Consider Alex Auld day-to-day until more details of his injury become available.

Sens' Auld Yanked After One Period

News: Alex Auld coughed up four goals on 10 shots in the first period against the Flyers and then was pulled for Craig Anderson.
Analysis: So much for Alex Auld taking advantage of Anderson's slow start. This is a reminder that Auld is just keeping the seat warm for prospect Robin Lehner.

Auld Starting For Sens Again Tuesday

News: Alex Auld will make another start Tuesday against the Flyers, Brent Wallace of TSN.ca reports.
Analysis: Craig Anderson's slow start has opened up the door for the No. 2 netminder in Ottawa, but we're reluctant to deploy him (even at home) against the Flyers. Nevertheless, those in deeper leagues where warm bodies between the pipes carry value should consider him for spot duty, at least until the Sens give the keys to Robin Lehner.

Auld To Start For Senators On Saturday

News: Alex Auld will get the start in goal Saturday against the Capitals, Sportsnet's Ian MendesM reports.
Analysis: Alex Auld has been a serviceable backup in his career, but he gave up two goals on just 11 shots in his only appearance this year, and he'll face a tough task Saturday night. With a full slate of games Saturday, fantasy owners should be able to find another player to fill the starting goaltender slot for the day.

Sens' Auld Decent In Relief

News: Alex Auld entered Saturday's game to start the third period and allowed two goals on 11 shots in a 6-5 loss to Toronto.
Analysis: The goaltending switch actually lit a fire under the young Sens and they scored five goals in the third. Alex Auld could see his fair share of work in relief this season, not because of Craig Anderson but because of the multitude of mistakes made by a young team like the Sens. We still wouldn't recommend him, though.

Sens Tab Auld For Backup Role

News: Ottawa has signed Auld to a one-year deal on the first day of free agency, the Senators' Official Site reports.
Analysis: He'll be the main backup for Craig Anderson and slots in well as a veteran who can eat up a start here or there when needed. Auld has played for eight NHL teams in his career, and this will be his second tour with the Sens after playing 43 games for Ottawa in 2008-09.

Habs Go With Auld Thursday

News: Auld will start Thursday's game against Ottawa, Dave Stubbs of the Montreal Gazette reports.
Analysis: Auld will give Carey Price a pre-playoff breather here, but once the postseason starts, he'll be a spectator as long as Price remains healthy.

Auld, Habs Win

News: Auld stopped 30 of 31 shots in Montreal's 8-1 win over Minnesota on Sunday.
Analysis: Montreal head coach Jacques Martin picked a good game to spot some rest for Carey Price as the punchless Wild were coming off a wrenching overtime loss the day before. Auld improved to 6-2-1 on the season.

Auld Starts For Habs Saturday

News: Auld will start in goal Saturday against the Hurricanes, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.
Analysis: Carey Price's illness will prevent him from starting, so the Habs will turn to Auld, who was yanked after allowing three goals in just 13 minutes in his last start.

Auld Could Start For Habs Saturday

News: Auld could start Saturday against the Hurricanes if Carey Price (illness) is unable to play.
Analysis: Price was sick and did not participate in the morning skate. He's considered a game-time decision, and Auld would be the man who steps in if Price can't go.
