News: Martin Erat scored his second goal as a Coyote in Tuesday's loss to Columbus.
Analysis: Martin Erat has points in consecutive games after breaking an eight-game pointless streak.

Coyotes' Erat Says He's Good To Go For Thursday

News: Martin Erat (upper body) deemed himself good to go for Thursday's game against the Panthers, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Martin Erat had previously expressed optimism regarding a Thursday return, and he was even more confident after Wednesday's skate. Unless the team disagrees, look for Erat to return from his three-game absence.

Coyotes' Erat Targeting Thursday Return

News: Martin Erat (upper body) hopes to be back in the lineup Thursday vs. the Panthers, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Coach Dave Tippett is already ruling Martin Erat out for Monday's game in Los Angeles, but there's optimism he won't be out much longer beyond that. Erat has already missed two games due to the injury.

Coyotes' Erat Out Saturday

News: Martin Erat (upper body) will not play Saturday against Calgary, according to the Arizona Republic's Sarah McLellan.
Analysis: Martin Erat was unlikely for the match-up with the Flames and his return will more likely come in the next week.

Coyotes Hope To Have Erat Back Within A Week

News: GM Don Maloney said the Coyotes hope to have Martin Erat (upper body) back in the lineup within a week, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Martin Erat has officially been ruled out of Thursday's game vs. Boston and appears unlikely to play Saturday as well, but it doesn't sound like a long-term absence is in the works for the forward. He was reported that he's already noticed some improvement from his injury since Tuesday's game and could start skating on his own within the next couple of days.

Coyotes' Erat Leaves With Upper-Body Injury

News: Martin Erat left Tuesday's game against the Panthers with an upper-body injury, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
Analysis: Martin Erat was on the ice for four shifts before departing with the injury. The Coyotes should provide official word on his status after the game, along with a potential return timetable. An absence of even a couple of games would be disappointing considering the Coyotes specifically acquired the forward at the deadline to improve their chances of earning a playoff spot out West.

Coyotes' Erat Scores First With New Team In Win

News: Martin Erat scored his first goal as a Coyote Monday in a win over Tampa Bay. He was plus-1 and took two PIM.
Analysis: Martin Erat, a three-time 20 goal scorer, has just two goals on the season. The move to Phoenix may instil new jump in his game, but he needs to prove himself to fantasy owners before he can be added in shallow leagues.

Coyotes' Erat Held Pointless In Debut

News: Martin Erat made his debut for Phoenix skating 16:30 Thursday in a win over Montreal. He recorded two shots on net, four hits, and two PIM.
Analysis: Martin Erat will slot on a line with fellow Czech countrymen Radim Vrbata and Martin Hanzal, which could give him the opportunity to improve on his lone goal so far this season.

Erat Traded To Coyotes In Four-Player Deal

News: Martin Erat and prospect John Mitchell were traded to the Coyotes on Tuesday in exchange for Rostislav Klesla, Chris Brown and a 2015 fourth-round draft pick, Katie Carrera of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: The Capitals had been planning on trading the Czech winger for some time and finally pulled the trigger when the right package became available. Martin Erat is expected to slot in on the second line next to Martin Hanzal and Radim Vrbata, giving the Coyotes an adequate top six as look to make a run at a Wild Card spot out West.

Caps' Erat Limps Off After Warm-Ups

News: Martin Erat (undisclosed) left warm-ups early and limped off to the locker room. He is not expected to play against the Bruins on Saturday, Katie Carrera of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Carrera noted that he was skating gingerly when warm-ups began though no injury had been reported. We'll call it 'undisclosed' for now, but it certainly appeared to be something with his knee or ankle.

Capitals' Erat Moved To Second Line

News: Martin Erat skated with Mikahil Grabovski and Troy Brouwer on the team's second line during Wednesday's practice, Mike Vogel of Monumental Network reports.
Analysis: Martin Erat had been playing with Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom prior to his departure to Sochi. It is likely that with Mikhail Grabovski now healthy and both Erat and Troy Brouwer now playing better that head coach Adam Oates wants to spread out the scoring and that is why Erat has been bumped to the second line. With the NHL's trade deadline fast approaching, Erat will have some incentive to play well if he truly wants out of DC, and has the line-mates to produce well. Keep an eye on his production in the coming games, as he might be worth a grab in deeper leagues should he pick up where he left off (one goal, one assist in four games preceeding Olympic break).

Caps' Erat Scores Goal For Czechs

News: Martin Erat scored a goal in Friday's win over Latvia in the Olympics.
Analysis: Martin Erat totaled four shots on goal in the win over Latvia for the Czech Republic. He had been a cold scoring option for the Capitals heading into the break, so maybe he can pick up some momentum coming out of the tournament. The Czechs will look to beat Switzerland on Saturday to advance in the tournament.

Caps' Erat: Finally Gets A Goal

News: Martin Erat scored his first goal of the season in Saturday's win over New Jersey.
Analysis: OK, so it went into an empty net. He'll take it. Martin Erat has scored just six goals since the 2012-13 season -- it's like someone just pulled the cord on his game. He's better than this, but it may take a new team to see that happen.

Capitals' Erat To Replace Sobotoka At Olympics

News: Martin Erat has been picked by the Czech Olympic Team to fill in for injured center Vladimir Sobotka, Zdenek Janda of Denik Sport reports.
Analysis: Despite still being without a goal in the 2013-2014 NHL season, Martin Erat has now made his third Olympic team. The 32-year-old winger has been a healthy scratch at times this season, but has played his best hockey of the year recently, with five assists in his last five games. Ironically, it's likely that the experience he's gained as a bottom-six center this season was a significant factor in his selection as the replacement for Sobotka, an imposing checking-line center in his own right. The announcement is good news for Erat, and with this to inspire him as well as Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom playing alongside him, perhaps the goals will finally start to come.

Capitals' Erat Promoted To Top Line

News: With injuries piling up, Martin Erat has been shuffled to the Capitals' top line alongside Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom.
Analysis: Martin Erat notched another assist during Sunday's 6-5 OT victor against Detroit, but owns the dubious distinction of being the only player in the NHL with 20 assists and no goals. It's highly unlikely that Erat will finish the season without a goal, but his inability to light the lamp has kept him on the sidelines of fantasy hockey for much of the season. However, if Erat stays with Ovechkin and Backstrom for the long haul, that could change quickly, so he's worth keeping an eye on.

Consecutive Two-Assist Games For Caps' Erat

News: Martin Erat posted his second straight two-assist effort Tuesday in a 5-4 overtime win in Buffalo.
Analysis: He's got four helpers and a plus-5 rating in his last two games, but still hasn't found a way to put the puck to the back of the net this season. A big part of the reason is that he's averaging less than a shot per game, with 36 in 45 contests, but at least Martin Erat's put six pucks on net in the last three games. Take the positives where you can get 'em here.

Caps' Erat: Two Assists, But Still No Goals

News: Martin Erat picked up two assists Saturday in a win over the Canadiens. He has 18 assists on the season, but remains without a goal in 44 games this season.
Analysis: The Caps are still regretting the deal that brought Martin Erat to the U.S. capital. Erat simply hasn't found a fit in the Caps' system, but would be valuable somewhere else. Remember -- he averaged 52 points a season for eight straight seasons with the defensive-minded Preds. That kind of skill doesn't just disappear into the ether. Watch for a trade and be ready to scoop him up -- he could rebound quickly in another uni.

Capitals' Erat Promoted To Second Line

News: Martin Erat skated on a line with Mikhail Grabovski and Eric Fehr during the Capitals' Thursday morning practice, Katie Carrera of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: With Alex Ovechkin nursing a lower-body injury and management seeking to trade the Czech winger, circumstances again conspire to give Martin Erat a more prominent role in the Capitals' lineup. Erat has been on the wrong side of the scoresheet in recent outings (8 PIMs in his last two games), and with only one assist since the new year, he will need to pick up his game against a stingy Devils team if he has any hopes of being traded before the March 5th Trade Deadline.

Capitals' Erat In Lineup For Friday's Game

News: Martin Erat will be in the lineup for Washington for Friday's game against columbus, Katie Carrera of The Washington Post reports.
Analysis: Martin Erat will take Aaron Volpatti's place on the team's fourth line. The Czech winger has been unhappy with his role on the team and has requested a trade. It is likely the Capitals are trying to showcase Erat to other teams. His lack of quality minutes, production (zero goals, 15 assists, minus-4 rating in 40 games), and skilled linemates relegate Erat for consideration only in the deepest of leagues unless or until he is traded.

Caps' Erat Heating Up

News: Martin Erat had nine points -- all assists -- in his last 14 games heading into Thursday's tilt with the Hurricanes.
Analysis: The 32-year-old winger got off to a horrendous start this season, with just six points in his first 23 games, but it looks like he's finally found his game. For now, he's skating on the Caps' third line with Jason Chimera and Joel Ward, averaging roughly 14 minutes of ice time per night. Feel free to start him in medium to deeper leagues if you're in need of some scoring help.

Erat's Drought Continues As Caps Fall

News: Martin Erat's goalless streak to start the season reached 11 games Saturday in a loss to Calgary. He had no shots on goal and finished the night minus-4.
Analysis: Martin Erat was never a scoring machine, even in his most productive years in Nashville. But the Caps are wishing they'd bought the extended warranty when they acquired him last season. In 20 games in a Washington sweater, he has all of six points. Erat's put just five shots on goal all season, has been collared in 10 of 11 games, and looks lost in the Caps' offense. If you haven't benched him already, it's high time.

Caps' Erat Breaks Season-Long Slump

News: Martin Erat set up three goals in a 4-1 win over the Blue Jackets on Saturday night.
Analysis: That shine you see is the sparkle from Martin Erat's smile now that the monkey is off his back. These are his first points of the season and his ice time was up to almost 18 minutes. In theory, he should excel in the U.S. capital, but he's been mired in a horrible slump until now. We'll watch with interest to see if this effort lights a fire for him.

Caps' Erat Seeing Diminished Playing Time

News: Martin Erat has been a fixture on the fourth line this year and is experiencing the lowest playing time of his career, according to Katie Carrera of The Washington Post.
Analysis: Martin Erat has not been provided a reason for his decreasing playing time. The Capitals offense has not been overly productive so far this season and changes could be coming. In fact, Carrera reported that Erat practiced with the second line Friday. Owners will want to keep an eye on Erat's playing time as the season continues.

Caps May Try Erat At Center

News: The Capitals may give Martin Erat a look at center this year, according to Katie Carrera of the Washington Post.
Analysis: Martin Erat played center a bit in the preseason. If he plays as a winger on the second line or center on the third depends mostly on the health of Brooks Laich, who is likely to play Opening Night. Erat doesn't appear to be experiencing any issues with the dislocated elbow he suffered in May.

Caps' Erat (Elbow) Won't Require Surgery

News: Martin Erat will not require surgery on his dislocated elbow, the Washington Times reports. Instead, he plans on the rehabbing the injury on his own.
Analysis: Of course, with the Capitals eliminated following Monday's Game 7 loss to the Rangers, Martin Erat will have all offseason to rehab the injury, though he's expected to be fully recovered within a few weeks. Erat said he would have been available to play through the pain had the Capitals advanced to the second round.
