Devils Ink Havlat

News: The Devils signed Martin Havlat to a one-year, $1.5 million deal Tuesday, Renaud Lavoie of Journal de Montreal reports.
Analysis: Martin Havlat struggled through a litany of injuries before being bought out by the Sharks last month, and will try to revitalize his career with a solid season in New Jersey.

Havlat Will Be Bought Out By Sharks

News: The Sharks will use their first compliance buyout on Martin Havlat, who had one year remaining on his contract, reports the Mercury News.
Analysis: Martin Havlat played 48 games last season, scoring 12 goals and ten assists. He never turned out to be the difference-maker the team wanted when they acquired him from Minnesota. GM Doug Wilson announced last month that Havlat would not return to the team, but a trade was still a possibility.

Sharks' Havlat Won't Return With Team

News: Martin Havlat will not return with the Sharks for the 2014-15 season, CSN's Brodie Brazil reports.
Analysis: At 33 years old, Martin Havlat will probably look to catch on elsewhere. He did not see much time on the ice down the stretch for the Sharks.

Sharks' Havlat Active For Game 6

News: Martin Havlat is active for Monday's Game 6 against the Kings, according to David Pollak of the Mercury News.
Analysis: A healthy scratch for the first five games of the series, Martin Havlat will join the lineup Monday, while Mike Brown is a healthy scratch.

Sharks' Havlat A Scratch In Game 5

News: Martin Havlat was again a scratch, as the Sharks lost to the Kings in Game 5 Saturday.
Analysis: Martin Havlat has been scratched in all five playoff games thus far. With how the Sharks offense played in the first three, it didn't seem likely that we would see Havlat in the first round. However, the team has struggled to produce offense in the last two games and it's possible Havlat may get a chance soon if the struggles continue.

Sharks Likely To Scratch Havlat In Game 2

News: With no lineup changes for Game 2, it looks like Martin Havlat will again be a healthy scratch for the Sharks, according to David Pollak of the Mercury News.
Analysis: Martin Havlat finished a tough season fairly strong and is likely to be the first forward brought in if a lineup change is necessary. But there's no reason to change anything after a strong Game 1 performance from the Sharks. As long as they keep winning, Havlat may continue to be scratched.

Sharks Scratch Havlat In Game 1

News: Martin Havlat was a healthy scratch in Game 1 for the Sharks.
Analysis: Martin Havlat has 21 goals and 31 assists through 74 career playoff games. Solid totals, but the team is looking for the opening-round series against the Kings to be physical and he may get scratched for Mike Brown with some regularity if the series proves as physical as Game 1 did. The teams combined for 121 hits in the opening game.

Sharks' Havlat Scores Natural Hat Trick Friday

News: Martin Havlat scored three third-period goals in a 9:38 span Friday, as San Jose routed the Avs 5-1 at the Shark Tank.
Analysis: The former 77-point Czech has been a colossal bust since donning the teal, white and black, managing just 66 points in 126 games for the Sharks. However, his sixth-career hat trick gives him 12 goals on the season -- the most since 2010-11 when he banged home 22 with Minnesota -- and serves as a reminder for the Kings in Round 1 of the playoffs as to what the 32-year-old is capable of. Like any late-season flash of offensive upside, go ahead and file Marty's performance away for the later rounds of next year's draft. If he manages to stay healthy and gets an assignment with some decent linemates, he has the pedigree to turn heads.

Multi-Point Night For Sharks' Havlat

News: Martin Havlat had two assists in Thursday's loss to the Jets.
Analysis: Martin Havlat has come alive down the stretch -- over his last 11 games, he's notched five goals and three assists. That's a significant portion of his season totals of nine goals and nine assists.

Havlat Scores Again For San Jose

News: Martin Havlat scored on one of two shots in Tuesday's win over Edmonton.
Analysis: Martin Havlat is quickly turning his season around. He's got five goals and an assist in the last ten games. That comes after he recorded only four goals and six assists in the 31 games prior.

Havlat Tallies One In Sharks' Loss

News: Martin Havlat had a goal and two shots in Tuesday's loss to Florida.
Analysis: It has not been a banner year for Martin Havlat. Between injury and low production he's been a shadow of his former production. However, he's come alive a bit in recent weeks with four goals and an assist in the last six games.

Havlat Scores In San Jose Win

News: Martin Havlat grabbed a goal and an assist in Friday's 4-3 win over the Islanders, giving him two goals in his last three games.
Analysis: Martin Havlat has missed some time lately with a nagging injury, but he's also been a healthy scratch at times this season. He still is a talented winger on a strong team, but this type of consistency has eluded him most of the season. Use him judiciously, just don't be surprised when he disappears for a time.

Sharks' Havlat Scores In Return

News: Martin Havlat (pelvis) returned to action and notched a goal Tuesday against the Maple Leafs.
Analysis: The winger was able to get back in the lineup after experiencing lingering stiffness from offseason pelvic surgery. It's nice that Martin Havlat is showing flashes of his old scoring touch, but he's not expected to play every game moving forward since he's still not quite 100-percent.

Sharks' Havlat Still Hurting

News: Martin Havlat is still feeling the effects of offseason pelvic surgery, CSN Bay Area reports.
Analysis: Head coach Todd McLellan noted that Martin Havlat should not be considered a healthy scratch when he doesn't play because he is still feeling stiff. There's really no way to know when he'll be 100 percent again, so it sounds like he'll continue to miss games on a consistent basis moving forward.

Sharks Scratch Havlat

News: Martin Havlat was a healthy scratch in Thursday's game against Pittsburgh.
Analysis: Naturally, the Sharks aren't divulging why he was scratched, but it's coming the game after Martin Havlat scored his fifth goal of the season. Barring injuries, it's going to be tough to depend on Havlat playing every game the rest of the way. He's been inconsistent and there's a fierce battle for ice time among a handful of Sharks forwards.

Havlat Gets All-Too-Rare Goal For Sharks

News: Martin Havlat had a goal and two shots in Tuesday's OT loss to Carolina.
Analysis: Much has been made of Martin Havlat not taking a vacation and working on his game through the Olympic break. Maybe it's paying off. It's only been five games since his last goal, the shortest span between any two of his five goals this season, which isn't pretty for a 30-goal scorer.

Sharks' Havlat Adds Two Points In Win

News: Martin Havlat recorded a goal and an assist in Wednesday's 2-1 overtime win over the Stars.
Analysis: The winger opened the scoring late in the second period, and had the primary assist on Tommy Wingels' overtime winner. The winger now has four goals and six assists in 27 games on the season.

Havlat Plays Strong In Return For Sharks

News: Martin Havlat bounced between the third and fourth lines, due to an in-game injury to Tyler Kennedy, and finished the game with four shots and two takeaways in a 3-0 lost to Edmonton.
Analysis: Martin Havlat played solid through 15:45 of ice time in his return, but had little to show for it on the scoresheet. Though no Sharks put anything up as Ben Scrivens stopped 59 saves for a record-setting shutout. Havlat looks like he's back to the form he was in before the recent injury, which may not be good enough to merit a pickup. He has three goals and five assists through 23 games played this season.

Havlat To Return To Sharks Lineup

News: Martin Havlat will be back in the lineup Wednesday as the Sharks take on the Oilers, according to Curtis Pashelka of the Mercury News.
Analysis: Martin Havlat hasn't been in the lineup since December 21, though he's been healthy for a little while now. Pashelka noted that Havlat is penciled in on the fourth line, meaning he is unlikely to see much ice time. Barring a lineup change, Havlat's value is limited.

Sharks' Havlat Out Again Saturday

News: Martin Havlat (lower body) will not be in the lineup Saturday vs. the Lightning, David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: Although Martin Havlat is now off of injured reserve, coach Todd McLellan suggested he's being held out for lineup-based reasons. It sounds like Havlat is healthy, so it's probably just a matter of time before McLellan throws him back into the fire.

Sharks' Havlat Off IR

News: Martin Havlat (lower body) was removed from injured reserve Thursday, David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: The news came through during Thursday's game, meaning that Martin Havlat will return Saturday at the earliest. Though he has a disappointing eight points through 22 appearances, the Czech winger's return will be a welcome sight for the banged-up Sharks.

Sharks Place Havlat on IR

News: Martin Havlat has been placed on IR, according Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area.
Analysis: Martin Havlat has been on the bench for a bit with this injury, so the move comes as no surprise.

Sharks' Havlat Out Sunday

News: Martin Havlat (lower body) will not play Sunday vs. the Ducks, David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: Martin Havlat was limited in Saturday's practice and will be held out of action to receive further time to heal up. His injury complicates things for the Sharks as they look to find some continuity with their lineup following the injury to Tomas Hertl.

Sharks' Havlat Nursing Lower-Body Injury

News: Martin Havlat is dealing with a lower-body injury, David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: This explains why Martin Havlat didn't travel with the Sharks to Phoenix for their game Friday. His status remains up in the air for Sunday against Anaheim.

Sharks' Havlat Out Friday With Undisclosed Injury

News: Martin Havlat (undisclosed) did not travel with the Sharks to Phoenix for Friday's game, David Pollak of the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: Though the Sharks haven't provided clarity on the matter, it sounds like Martin Havlat is nursing some sort of injury that is keeping him from traveling. He'll remain back in San Jose and could still be an option for Sunday's game vs. Anaheim if it turns out the injury isn't too serious.
