Habs' Murray Returns

News: Douglas Murray returned to action Thursday night after serving a three-game suspension. He skated 6:29 with a hit, a blocked shot and 15 penalty minutes in a 2-0 loss to the Islanders.
Analysis: Douglas Murray, who just served a suspension for elbowing Tampa Bay's Michael Kostka, was run from Thursday night's game for hitting the Islanders' Johan Sundstrom from behind. The NHL said after the game that Murray would not be suspended for the hit.

Habs' Murray Serving Final Game

News: Douglas Murray did not travel to Chicago with teammates for Wednesday night's game, as he's finishing up his three-game suspension.
Analysis: Douglas Murray was whacked with the suspension for elbowing Tampa Bay's Mike Kostka last week. Kostka suffered a concussion, but returned to skating for the first time Tuesday.

Habs' Murray Suspended For Three Games

News: Douglas Murray was handed down a three-game suspension Thursday for his elbow the head of the Lightning's Mike Kostka on Tuesday, Dave Stubbs of the Montreal Gazette reports.
Analysis: Kostka was diagnosed with a concussion after taking the hit and will presumably miss the next few games, and in true eye-for-an-eye fashion, Douglas Murray will miss some time, too. Outside of the hits and blocks categories, Murray is largely irrelevant in the fantasy realm, with just two points and a minus-12 rating in 52 games.

Hearing Scheduled For Canadiens' Murray

News: Douglas Murray has a telephone discipline hearing with the NHL scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday to review an elbow he delivered to the head of Tampa Bay's Mike Kostka during Tuesday night's win over the Lightning, the Montreal Gazette reports.
Analysis: It was announced Wednesday that Kostka, who skated off under his own power, has a concussion and there is no timetable for his return.

Habs' Murray Faces Possible Suspension

News: Douglas Murray received a 10-minute major penalty when he delivered an elbow to Tampa Bay's Mike Kostka late in Tuesday night's loss to the Lightning.
Analysis: We suspect Douglas Murray will be facing disciplinary action for the deed, which left Kostka on the ice for several minutes before he skated off under his own power.

Habs' Murray Gets Therapy Day

News: Douglas Murray was given a therapy day and did not practice Wednesday, the Montreal Gazette reports. He is expected to be available for Thursday night's game against Vancouver.
Analysis: Douglas Murray, who is a minus-12 for the season, is coming off a big effort in Tuesday's win over Calgary. At one point during the game, he was part of the short-handed crew that killed off a 5-on-3. That penalty kill featured several blocked shots, one of which appeared to have hurt Murray, who stayed on the ice despite the discomfort.

Habs' Murray Practices Monday

News: Douglas Murray (lower body) took part in Monday's practice, Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette reports.
Analysis: The Canadiens have yet to reassign either of the two defensemen they called up to cover for Douglas Murray and Raphael Diaz (illness) over the weekend, but it looks like both players will be good to go for Wednesday's contest against the Penguins after practicing Monday. Murray has just two points in 28 games this season, but he's offered good production in the defensive categories, logging 81 hits and 61 blocks.

Analysis: Douglas Murray didn't practice Friday, and the Canadiens recalled defenseman Nathan Beaulieu from AHL Hamilton. Murray has two assists, nine PIM, 12 shots on goal, and a minus-10 rating in 28 games. He hasn't been of much use in any format.

Habs' Murray Gets First Points Of Season

News: Douglas Murray picked up two assists -- his first points of the season -- in Saturday's shootout loss to the Senators.
Analysis: He's more known for his brawn than his offense, so consider these assists gravy. He's averaging about three hits a game, though, so he may help you there if you can afford to roster a part-time player.

Canadiens' Murray Keeps Hits Coming

News: Douglas Murray had eight hits in Thursday night's loss to Philadelphia.
Analysis: Douglas Murray's been in and out of the lineup, sharing the final spot on defense with Francis Bouillon. Otherwise, he might be Montreal's leading hitter. He's second on the team with 47 hits in 16 games played.

Canadiens' Murray Gets Stitches

News: Douglas Murray received stitches on his forehead after fighting the Sabres' John Scott during Wednesday's win, the Montreal Gazette reports. It will be a few days before Murray can comfortably wear a helmet, and he will be a healthy scratch Friday against the Capitals.
Analysis: Francis Bouillon will move back into the lineup as the sixth defenseman for Friday's game.

Canadiens' Murray Makes Impact

News: Douglas Murray led Montreal with six hits and had three blocked shots in Tuesday night's win over Dallas.
Analysis: After being credited with one hit in his season debut Monday, Douglas Murray boosted that total to six in his second game back from injury. This is exactly the type of presence the Canadiens were hoping for when they inked him in the offseason.

Canadiens' Murray Debuts

News: Douglas Murray made his debut for Montreal in Monday night's 2-0 road win over the Rangers. He played 14:21, including three minutes on the penalty-kill unit, and had a hit and a penalty.
Analysis: Douglas Murray, who had been dealing with a lower-body injury, looked pretty slow on his skates, but head coach Michel Therrien gave him a passing grade. "Murray was strong in the corners and we liked his physical play," the coach told the Montreal Gazette. As Murray gets healthier, he's expected to be the Habs' biggest thumper on the blue line.

Canadiens' Murray To Make Season Debut Monday

News: Douglas Murray (lower body) is expected to make his debut with the Canadiens on Monday against the Rangers, Seth Rorabaugh of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis: Douglas Murray will likely be activated from injured reserve Monday and make his debut as a member of the Canadiens. He played in 14 games as a member of the Penguins last season and 29 games with the Sharks, and will give the Habs a boost of veteran depth on defense.

News: Douglas Murray (lower body) traveled with teammates to New York for Monday night's game against the Rangers, Hockey Inside Out reports.
Analysis: Douglas Murray has yet to play this season because of the injury, but he's getting close. Over the weekend, Montreal reassigned rookie blue-liners Nathan Beaulieu and Greg Pateryn, leaving them with just six defensemen on the roster.

Habs' Murray Skates With Teammates Friday

News: Douglas Murray (upper body) was on the ice with his teammates Friday morning.
Analysis: He continues to progress back from an upper-body injury, and seemingly has a chance at reaching something closer to the short end of the initial four-to-six week timetable for his recovery.

Canadiens' Murray Back To Skating

News: Douglas Murray (back) was able to return to skating, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Analysis: Douglas Murray was originally given a four-to-six-week return date on his upper-body injury and is about three weeks into that recovery. Skating is a step in the right direction, and next he'll presumably have to be cleared for different levels of contact on the ice.

Habs' Murray To Miss 4-6 Weeks

News: Douglas Murray will miss 4-6 weeks with an upper-body injury, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Analysis: Douglas Murray, who had been suffering from a lower-body issue, was just cleared Saturday for full-contact drills by the Canadiens' medical staff. Either another injury has lingered or this is a separate ailment, but either way, it appears he will miss more than a month of the season.
