News: Carolina was not among the 12 players cut on Thursday, the team's official site reports.
Analysis:Ryan Murphy is a supremely talented defenseman that is showing great maturity in camp. The 18-year-old is not guaranteed a spot yet, but the young defenseman cannot go to Charlotte of the AHL due to his young age, so his destinations will be the NHL or juniors. Either way, he is worth strong consideration in keeper leagues.
News:Ryan Murphy has signed an entry-level deal with the Hurricanes, according to Sportsnet's Jeff Marek.
Analysis: The deal is for $832,000 per season with a $277,500 signing bonus. The AHL portion of the deal is worth $70,000. Ryan Murphy is a small but impressive defender with strong keeper value, and he actually has a shot at following Jeff Skinner's footsteps from June's draft to a roster spot opening day. That's a lot tougher for a defender than for a forward so we're tempering our expectations ... this year.
News: Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford was most impressed with Ryan Murphy and fellow prospect Justin Faulk in the rookie tournament in Traverse City, according to Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News and Observer.
Analysis:Ryan Murphy, Carolina's first round selection in the 2011 draft, has been especially impressive on the power play during the three games at Traverse City. Scouts are comparing his offensive talents to Brian Rafalski. Murphy will have every chance to make the big club this offseason.
News: The New Jersey Devils assigned F Nicklas Bergfors, D Alex Brooks, F Patrick Davis, G Frank Doyle, D Mark Fraser, F Stephen Gionta, D Tomas Harant, F Ivan Khomutov, F Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond, D Olivier Magnan, D Bryan Miller, F Chris Minard, D Mike Mottau, F Ryan Murphy, G Gregg Naumenko, F Mike Pandolfo, F Justin Papineau, G Jordan Parise, F Rod Pelley, F Jason Ryznar, F Aaron Voros and F Petr Vrana to Lowell of the AHL.
Analysis: Expect Pandolfo, Papineau and Ryznar to see time with the Devils at some point, but neither of the players above are worth using in any Fantasy league right now.
