Devils Release Hedberg From PTO

News: Johan Hedberg was released from his professional tryout with AHL Albany on Tuesday, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Johan Hedberg, who had previously been serving as a scout for the organization, filled in as a backup goalie for Albany the last three games. With Keith Kinkaid (groin strain) now ready to go, Hedberg becomes a free agent again and doesn't have high hopes of landing another NHL opportunity.

Hedberg Signs With Devils' AHL Affiliate

News: Johan Hedberg signed a professional tryout offer with AHL Albany on Thursday, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Johan Hedberg will serve as the team's backup goalie after Keith Kinkaid suffered a groin strain. The 40-year-old had his contract bought out by the Devils in July following the acquisition of Cory Schneider, and had since been serving as a scout for the team. Hedberg isn't ruling out his stint with Albany turning into an NHL comeback, but it would seem unlikely considering his age and performance with New Jersey last season (6-10-3, 2.76 GAA, .883 save percentage).

Rangers Release Hedberg From PTO

News: The Rangers released Johan Hedberg from his professional tryout offer Wednesday.
Analysis: The veteran goaltender will look to catch on with another team now that the Rangers look like they've decided to stick with Martin Biron as their backup.

Hedberg 'Pleased' With Rangers Tryout

News: After being invited to try out with the Rangers, Johan Hedberg was reportedly "pleased," but it was "unknown where it will lead," reports Newsday's Steve Zipay.
Analysis: With Martin Biron away from camp for personal reasons this past week, it's likely Johan Hedberg's stay will be brief. However, Steve Zipay of Newsday reports, head coach Alain Vigneault expects Hedberg to 'compete' with Biron for the backup goalie job on Broadway. Owners looking to handcuff to Henrik Lundqvist should not discount the possibility of Hedberg pushing Biron for the backup job in New York.

Devils Placed Hedberg On Unconditional Waivers

News: Johan Hedberg will be bought out by the Devils after being placed on unconditional waivers, NewJersey.com reports.
Analysis: This move should come as no surprise after the Devils acquired Cory Schneider, who will handle goaltending duties along with veteran Martin Brodeur. As the deadline for compliance buyouts approached on Thursday, GM Lou Lamoriello made the move in order to save the team $1.4 million in cap room for the 2013-14 season.

Hedberg's Future With New Jersey Up In The Air

News: Johan Hedberg's future with the Devils is up in the air following the team's acquisition of Cory Schneider, the Star-Ledger reports.
Analysis: With fellow veteran keeper Martin Brodeur still in the fold, Johan Hedberg is now a candidate to be bought out by the team, given his $1.4 million salary and the presence of Schneider.

Devils' Hedberg Finishes Season On Low Note

News: Johan Hedberg ended the season with a poor performance, giving up four goals on just 21 shots in Saturday's 4-0 loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: Johan Hedberg has been a bit better over the last month or so, but he still had a rough season and finishes with a 6-10-3 record to show for it. Martin Brodeur is expected to return for another season, and Hedberg still has another year left on his contract, so he could end up with the same role in 2013-14.

Devils' Hedberg In Goal Saturday

News: Johan Hedberg will start in net on Saturday against the Rangers, according to Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record.
Analysis: Johan Hedberg has seen limited time in goal this season playing behind the legendary Martin Brodeur. Though he has posted a record of 6-9-3 in 18 games, he has managed a respectable 2.69 GAA but a mediocre .886 save percentage.

Devils' Hedberg Notches Win

News: Johan Hedberg won his first came since March 13 on Thursday, allowing two goals on 18 shots in a win over Pittsburgh.
Analysis: Johan Hedberg hadn't appeared in a game since March 19, a span of more than a month. He's had a tough year, with 12 losses in 18 games and a save mark south of .900.

Hedberg Starts For Devils On Thursday

News: Johan Hedberg will get the start in net Thursday against the Penguins, according to Tom Gulitti of The Record.
Analysis: The start, which will be Johan Hedberg's first turn since March 19 against the Rangers, will also likely his last assignment of the season. The soon-to-be 40 year-old Hedberg has compiled a 5-9-3 record for the Devils this season, with most of his work coming during a spell between February 21 and March 21, when Martin Brodeur missed time with a pinched nerve in his upper back/neck.

Devils' Hedberg Available Monday

News: Johan Hedberg (groin) will be available to back up Martin Brodeur on Monday against the Leafs, according to Tom Gulitti of The Record.
Analysis: With Johan Hedberg slated to travel to Toronto, Keith Kinkaid won't make the trip with the team for Monday's contest.

Devils' Hedberg (General Soreness) Practices Sunday

News: Johan Hedberg (general soreness) practiced Sunday for the first time since Tuesday, Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record reports.
Analysis: Johan Hedberg is still considered day-to-day with general soreness, but Sunday's practice is definitely a step in the right direction. When healthy, Hedberg has struggled this season, going 5-9 with a 2.73 GAA and an .886 save percentage.

Devils' Hedberg Dealing With Soreness

News: Johan Hedberg (soreness) won't be available for Wednesday's game against the Bruins, the Record's Tom Gulitti reports.
Analysis: With Johan Hedberg banged up -- and presumably day-to-day -- the Devils have recalled Keith Kinkaid from AHL Albany to back up Martin Brodeur.

Devils' Hedberg Gives Up Three In Loss

News: Johan Hedberg surrendered three goals on 22 shots in Tuesday's loss to the Rangers, his third consecutive loss.
Analysis: He'd actually put up save marks of .909 or better in four straight games before Tuesday's. While Johan Hedberg made some good-looking saves, his risk-taking with the puck created chances going the wrong way. Martin Brodeur was activated from IR on Tuesday, and the Devils would surely love to get Marty back out there Thursday against the 'Canes.

Devils Stick With Hedberg Tuesday

News: Johan Hedberg will start Tuesday's game against the Rangers.
Analysis: Meanwhile, Martin Brodeur has progressed to the point where he could even suit up Tuesday as a backup, suggesting that Johan Hedberg's busy run could be winding down in the coming days.

Devils' Hedberg: 20 Saves In Loss

News: Johan Hedberg made 20 saves in Saturday's 2-1 loss to Montreal.
Analysis: Moose hasn't been the goalie he was in the last couple seasons, but he's still the top dog while Martin Brodeur is sidelined. Use him on a match-ups basis.

Devils' Hedberg Will Start Saturday

News: Johan Hedberg will start in goal Saturday against the Canadiens, the Record's Tom Gulitti reports.
Analysis: The Devils will indeed turn to Johan Hedberg again Saturday after the netminder took a tough loss Friday. He's allowed just five goals in his last three starts.

Hedberg, Devils Suffer Shootout Loss

News: Johan Hedberg stopped 21 of 22 shots in the Devils' 2-1 shootout loss to Philadelphia on Friday, his second loss in the last five games. Hedberg likely will start Saturday's contest against Montreal.
Analysis: Moose played solidly in the contest and made several big saves in overtime to send the game to a shootout, but was beaten badly on both Philadelphia goals in the skills competition. Johan Hedberg and the Devils recently ended a six-game losing streak and Moose is 3-1-1 over the last five games. Look for him to start Saturday against red-hot Montreal. If you have other options in daily leagues, exercising them could be a safe play than gambling on the Devils.

Hedberg Backstops Devils To Win

News: Johan Hedberg stopped 23 shots in Wednesday's 5-2 over Philadelphia.
Analysis: Although he's just 5-7-2 this season, Johan Hedberg has played well recently with three wins over his last four starts. Until Martin Brodeur returns, he should continue to see a heavy workload as the Devils' temporary No. 1 goaltender.

Devils Stick With Hedberg Wednesday

News: Johan Hedberg will start Wednesday's game against the Flyers, NHL.com's Dan Rosen reports.
Analysis: Johan Hedberg will be starting his 10th straight game for the Devils, with Martin Brodeur said to be progressing, but still sidelined.

Devils' Hedberg Stops 23 In Win

News: Johan Hedberg made 23 saves on 25 shots in a shootout win against the Jets on Sunday.
Analysis: With Martin Brodeur out, the Devils don't really have another option in net. However, given his .879 save percentage, you certainly have better options in most leagues.

Devils' Hedberg To Get Call On Sunday

News: Johan Hedberg will start Sunday's contest against Winnipeg, according to the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti. Hedberg is 1-6-1 in his last eight starts and has allowed 14 goals in his last four games.
Analysis: Two of Johan Hedberg's six losses during this stretch were to Winnipeg. It's hard to recommend Moose as a spot start option on Sunday when there are nine other games in the, but if you believe he and the Devils will shake whatever demons are plaguing them, roll him.

Devils' Hedberg Struggles Again

News: Johan Hedberg was removed from the New Jersey net at the end of the second period after allowing five goals on 18 shots. He was replaced by Jeff Frazee.
Analysis: Moose just hasn't been able to replicate his success of last season and is causing his owners fits right now. He is just 1-7-1 in his last nine starts. Park him on the pine and wait to see if he can right the ship.

Hedberg Likely To Start Two For Devils

News: It's likely that Johan Hedberg will start both of the Devils' games this weekend against Carolina on Saturday and Winnipeg on Sunday. New Jersey's backup goalie, Jeff Frazee, does not believe he will start either of New Jersey's games this weekend, as noted by the Bergen Record's Tom Gulitti.
Analysis: Johan Hedberg is 1-6 in his starts since taking over for the injured Martin Brodeur (back). The odds of Hedberg starting both games this weekend are high as the Devils are looking to make up ground in the standings following a recent six-game losing streak. Moose has not been the steadiest of options lately, but he will be getting the call for the Devils in both games it seems. Two of his recent losses in the six-game skid were to Winnipeg; take that for what it is worth for Sunday's contests if you opt to roll with Moose in daily leagues.

Hedberg, Devils End Slump

News: Johan Hedberg stopped 23 shots in Thursday's 3-2 shootout win over Buffalo, his and the team's first win in seven games.
Analysis: Johan Hedberg had been leaving quite a bit to be desired for owners who'd snagged him up when word of Martin Brodeur's back injury surfaced. Moose had lost six straight games prior to Thursday, but managed to play well enough to keep the Devils in this game. Hedberg also denied both shootout attempts he faced. He'll likely start Saturday's contest against Carolina.
