Flames' Kiprusoff's Status Still A Mystery

News: Miikka Kiprusoff's status for the upcoming season is still a mystery, although it's still likely he'll retire, the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: Miikka Kiprusoff has been strangely silent all offseason and hasn't officially retired. The Flames appear to be moving on, so even if he does return, he probably will be traded or relegated to the bench.

Flames' Kiprusoff Hasn't Filed For Retirement Yet

News: Despite rumors back in June that Miikka Kiprusoff plans to retire, he hasn't yet filed his retirement papers, HockeyBuzz.com reports.
Analysis: Miikka Kiprusoff is actually under contract for the upcoming season, to boot. Either way, the team has started their succession planning by bringing over Karri Ramo from the KHL.

Flames' Kiprusoff Reportedly Retiring

News: Miikka Kiprusoff reportedly told the Finnish national team he is retiring from the NHL, the Calgary Sun reports.
Analysis: This was expected, as Miikka Kiprusoff was contemplating retirement for much of a rough 2013 campaign. He is the Flames' all-time leader in wins and shutouts, and was a Calgary stalwart for a long time. Joey MacDonald, Karri Ramo and Reto Berra will compete to start for the Flames in 2013-14.

Flames' Kiprusoff Stellar In Win

News: Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 32 of 33 shots Friday in what may have been his final Calgary home game, leading the Flames to a 3-1 win over the Ducks.
Analysis: Miikka Kiprusoff left the ice to chants of "Kipper, Kipper" and a standing ovation, just in case the Finnish netminder doesn't return next season. Although this has been a season to forget for Kiprusoff, he's been stellar the last two games, allowing only three goals on 71 shots in a pair of wins.

Flames' Kiprusoff To Start Friday

News: Miikka Kiprusoff will get the call in net Friday against Anaheim in what could be his final home game as a Flame, the Calgary Sun reports.
Analysis: Miikka Kiprusoff played a brilliant game on Wednesday, stopping 36 shots to beat the Red Wings 3-2. If he plans on retiring at the end of the season, which is thought to be the case, this will be his last game in front of the Sea of Red. He'll want to go out on top, so he is not a bad start Friday, especially after his strong effort Wednesday.

Flames' Kiprusoff Shines In Win

News: Miikka Kiprusoff saved 36 of the 38 shots he faced during the Flames' 3-2 victory over the Red Wings on Wednesday.

Flames' Kiprusoff To Start Wednesday

News: Miikka Kiprusoff will get the start between the pipes Wednesday against Detroit, the Calgary Herald reports.
Analysis: Wednesday may mark Kipper's final home game after a stellar career with the Flames. Signs point to the Finnish netminder hanging it up after this season, so at least Calgary fans will get a last chance to salute the goalie who has led their squad admirably for a long time. He may have a little extra motivation to perform Wednesday, so if you have him, this might be a good time for one last fantasy start.

Calgary's Kiprusoff Struggling With Injury

News: Miikka Kiprusoff is struggling with a minor injury and may not see much time between the pipes this week, the Calgary Sun reports.
Analysis: Miikka Kiprusoff may ride off into the sunset after this season, as he has struggled with injuries and a goals against average higher than 3.50 and also has a newborn child. He may get one of the three home starts this week to bid farewell to Calgary fans, but Joey MacDonald will likely get the other two starts.

Kiprusoff Struggles As Flames Fall

Flames' Kiprusoff In Net Saturday

News: Miikka Kiprusoff will start against the Canucks on Saturday, FAN 960's Pat Steinberg reports.

Kiprusoff Plays Well In Calgary Loss

News: Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 39 of 41 shots in Friday's 2-1 loss to San Jose, his sixth loss in his last seven starts.
Analysis: Miikka Kiprusoff did everything necessary to keep Calgary in the game on Friday, but the Flames surrendered the eventual game-winning goal with just 2:04 remaining in the contest. Kipper's numbers have been down all season and most reports that surfaced this past week believe that Kiprusoff will retire at season's end.

Flames Kiprusoff Starts Friday

News: Miikka Kiprusoff is slated to Friday's game against the Sharks, Sportsnet Radio's Pat Steinberg reports.
Analysis: There was plenty of speculation that Miikka Kiprusoff might be headed to the Maple Leafs at the NHL trade deadline, but he'll remain with the Flames for the rest of the season and then evaluate his next move this offseason.

Flames' Kiprusoff Not In Yet Wednesday

News: Joey MacDonald will get the start in net Wednesday for the Flames.
Analysis: Miikka Kiprusoff didn't take part in an optional skate Wednesday morning either, which might re-fuel those Kipper-to-Toronto rumors, but we expect him to remain in Calgary at the deadline.

Flames' Kiprusoff Reportedly Staying Put

News: According to TSN's Darren Dreger, Miikka Kiprusoff won't be traded by Calgary and will retire at the end of this season.
Analysis: This isn't the greatest note for Kipper to end his career on, with a save percentage south of .870, but perhaps now that he's fairly well assured he'll be staying with the Flames, he'll pick it up for the rest of the season. Still, he's a highly risky fantasy play down the stretch, with Calgary already having moved Jarome Iginla and Jay Bouwmeester.

Leafs In Mix For Flames' Kiprusoff

News: Miikka Kiprusoff is open to a trade to Toronto, RDS's Renaud Lavoie reports.
Analysis: Miikka Kiprusoff evidently wants to address his contract before he signs off on any deal to leave Calgary, but it looks like he could be on the move prior to the NHL trade deadline if that is accomplished.

Toronto GM To Talk Trade With Kiprusoff

News: Leafs' general manager Dave Nonis has requested permission from the Flames to speak directly to Miikka Kiprusoff about a possible trade, reports TSN.ca. Kiprusoff has indicated he will not report to any team to which he might be traded, citing family reasons.
Analysis: Former Flames coach Mike Keenan was on a Toronto radio station last week and went so far as to say he thought the goalie might retire and return to Finland as early as the end of 2013-14. There's no confirmation of that, and Miikka Kiprusoff seems most focused on the well-being of his premature baby born a couple months ago. Kiprusoff would probably settle into a platoon role with James Reimer in Toronto. And while he would have a stronger team in front of him, Kiprusoff would likely see fewer starts.

Flames' Kiprusoff Pulled In First Period

News: Miikka Kiprusoff only made three saves on six shots against the Oilers on Monday. He was pulled after 16:28 and got the loss.
Analysis: Miikka Kiprusoff is having the worst season of his career. He has a miserable .868 save percentage and 3.64 GAA. As the Flames have clearly gone into rebuilding mode, they will likely look to trade Kipper, although his value couldn't be much lower and he he's saying he'll refuse any move for family reasons. If they can't move him, they may relegate him to a backup role to see what else they might have.

Flames' Kiprusoff Set To Start Monday

News: Miikka Kiprusoff is in line to start Monday's game against the Oilers, Sportsnet Radio's Pat Steinberg reports.
Analysis: Miikka Kiprusoff, who allowed five goals on 20 shots in Friday's loss to Columbus, will try to bounce back Monday against an Oilers' squad that has won three straight games. Overall, he's struggled to a 6-9-2 record, with a 3.52 GAA and .873 save percentage to date.

Kipper Pulled In Flames' Loss

News: Kiprussoff allowed five goals on 20 shots in Friday's loss to Columbus, his fourth loss in his last five starts.
Analysis: Miikka Kiprusoff has been less than stellar of late, allowing 19 goals in his last five starts. There are swirling trade rumors around Kipper, and seemingly everyone else, but he's hardly been a reliable netminder of late. Kiprusoff is a risky play at this time; if you have other options, use them.

Flames' Kiprusoff Takes Loss Against Chicago

News: Miikka Kiprusoff allowed just two goals on 35 shots, but took a 2-0 shot Tuesday against the Blackhawks.
Analysis: On the same day that a report came out saying that Miikka Kiprusoff wouldn't show up if the Flames were to trade him, he came out and played well against the NHL's best team, but took a tough-luck loss. Expect Kipper to stay in a Calgary uniform and remain the starter despite his up-and-down (mostly down) season.
