Caps' Chimera Produces In Loss

News: Jason Chimera scored a goal, added an assist and went plus-3 on Sunday in a 4-3 Game 6 loss to the Rangers.
Analysis: Jason Chimera's been a surprising performer in these playoffs, having picked up three goals and seven points in 13 games; he only collected 19 points in 77 regular-season contests, so this is quite an outburst by his standards. The Caps have been mixing and matching lines, and Chimera's grouping with Joel Ward and Evgeny Kuznetsov looked awfully strong Sunday.

Two Points For Caps' Chimera In Game 5

News: Jason Chimera picked up a goal, an assist and a plus-3 rating Thursday in a Game 5 win over the Islanders.
Analysis: He'd collected just a single point -- a Game 2 goal -- in the first four games of the series, but Jason Chimera busted out with a big effort in this one. Of course, his scoring is rather sparing, so don't look for many more outbursts like this from Chimera.

Caps' Chimera Tallies Assist Tuesday

News: Jason Chimera recorded an assist in Washington's 4-2 win over Carolina on Tuesday.
Analysis: The assist comes on the heels of a two goal outing against the Rangers on Sunday. Jason Chimera is playing on the Capitals' third line with Eric Fehr and Brooks Laich, and the trio have been on fire since put together. With only seven goals and 12 assists in 72 games this season, the 35-year-old Chimera is falling short of expectations set by last year's 42-point campaign, but if the trio can continue to perform well in the final two weeks, he may have some fantasy value in deeper leagues.

Caps' Chimera Pots Two In Win

News: Jason Chimera tallied a pair of goals in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Rangers.
Analysis: It was the first multi-goal contest of the season for Jason Chimera as he ended a 20-game goalless streak dating back to Feb. 6. The 35-year-old was never an especially high point scorer, but he's produced just 18 points this year so his contributions tend to be more valuable to the Capitals than to potential fantasy owners.

Caps' Chimera Contributes Helpers, Toughness

News: Jason Chimera tallied two assists, went plus-2 and gathered seven penalty minutes Tuesday in a win over Columbus.
Analysis: A finely rounded fantasy performance from the veteran wing, who's managed a pair of two-assist efforts in his last four games, but otherwise hasn't found the scoresheet since Feb. 6 (and Jan. 14 before that). Even if hits play in your format, he's got marginal value in fantasy purposes; if they don't, he's bordering on useless.

Caps' Chimera Assists Twice In Loss

News: Jason Chimera gathered two assists in Wednesday's loss to the Penguins.
Analysis: Jason Chimera's inability to hold down a regular spot in the lineup has been his undoing this season, as the two assists give him just 14 points on the campaign. He saw only 9:33 of action Wednesday, and the trend of low minutes figures to continue with the Capitals unwilling to use him in a focal role.

Capitals' Chimera Chips In Two Points

News: Jason Chimera scored his fifth goal of the season and had an assist in Friday's win over Anaheim.
Analysis: Jason Chimera had previously gone eight straight games without a point, so it's nice to see him back on the scoresheet. While he's only had two multi-point games on the season, he's skating on the second line, making him an interesting fantasy option in deeper formats. The 35-year-old has flashes of offensive brilliance, but he's too inconsistent to be trusted in most leagues.

Capitals' Chimera Likely To Be Scratched

News: Jason Chimera will likely be a healthy scratch for Tuesday's game against the Kings, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: In his place, Aaron Volpatti (neck) is expected to play for the first time this season, though he's been healthy for the past five weeks.

Caps' Chimera Scores Game Winner Wednesday

News: Jason Chimera picked up his team's lone goal in Wednesday's 1-0 win over the Flyers.
Analysis: With just four goals and six assists in 41 games on the season, Jason Chimera doesn't score often, but he certainly made it count Wednesday. That being said, the veteran winger is still more valuable to the Caps than he is to any fantasy owners.

Chimera Tallies Two Points For Caps

News: Jason Chimera scored his first goal in nearly a month and added an assist for his first multi-point game of the season Thursday in an overtime win against the Jackets.
Analysis: A rare offensive outburst for Jason Chimera, who's followed up last year's career-high 42 points by getting off to the second-worst scoring rate of his career. He still has just eight points to show for 30 games, but has at least been a minor asset in PIM (22) and hits (59).

Caps To Make Chimera A Healthy Scratch

News: Jason Chimera will be a healthy scratch for Saturday's game against the Lightning, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis: It will be the first banishment to the press box of the season for Jason Chimera, who has produced two points over the Capitals' last nine games. The demotion is probably humbling for the 35-year-old, but doesn't seem like it will be something that becomes a frequent occurrence. Rookie Andre Burakovsky will replace Chimera on Saturday.

Caps' Chimera Gets Assist In Thursday's Win

News: Jason Chimera assisted on Eric Fehr's game-winning goal during Washington's 2-1 victory over Carolina on Thursday.
Analysis: Jason Chimera seems to be responding well to being demoted to the team's fourth line, as he has two assists in his last two games. However, given such a reduced role, it's hard to recommend him outside the deepest of leagues.

Caps' Chimera Scuffling Early On

News: Jason Chimera contributed an assist in Saturday's loss to the Lightning.
Analysis: It's just the second point in 10 games for Jason Chimera, who is well behind the pace of the 42-point production he delivered last season. He's shown a propensity to score in bunches in the past, so it might be worthwhile to jump on him if he catches fire at some point later in the campaign. However, it's probably not worthwhile to roster him in most formats until that occurs.

Caps' Chimera Gets First Goal Of Season

News: Jason Chimera got the only Washington goal through overtime Saturday night in a game the Capitals ultimately won 2-1 in a shootout.
Analysis: It was Jason Chimera's first point of the season; it came in his fifth game of the year. At 35, he's slowing down, but there is always a chance he might deliver depth fantasy scoring in matchup situations.

Caps' Chimera Has Lone Goal In Wednesday's Loss

News: Jason Chimera scored the only goal in the Capitals' 6-1 loss to Buffalo on Wednesday night.
Analysis: Jason Chimera scored on a two-on-one feed from Kris Newbury in the third period. Chimera will look to replicate his career-year he had during the last season, but it is likely that his production will regress some this year. However, he should get some power play time on the second unit and should still have excellent chemistry with Joel Ward, so he may be worth a flier in deeper leagues.

Caps' Chimera Tallies Assist In Sunday's 1-0 Win

News: Jason Chimera assisted on the only goal of the Capitals' 1-0 victory over Buffalo.
Analysis: Jason Chimera played on a line with Joel Ward and rookie Andre Burakovsky during even-strength shifts. Although he has great chemistry with Ward, Chimera's career-high production last season is likely an anomaly at this stage in his career. He's worth keeping an eye on, but don't be surprised if his production declines this season.

Caps' Chimera To Play At World Championships

News: Jason Chimera will represent Canada at the 2014 IIHF World Championships in Belarus, according to a team press release
Analysis: Jason Chimera, who finished the 2013-14 NHL season with a career-high 15 goals and 27 assists in 82 games, will join Troy Brouwer and linemate Joel Ward on Team Canada for the upcoming tournament in Minsk. Chimera and Ward formed a dynamic duo on the team's third line this season, with Eric Fehr centering the two for much of the Capitals' disappointing season. Most importantly, the 6-foot-3, 216-pound winger seemed to redeem himself from a very disappointing lockout-shortened 2012-13 campaign in which he only netted three goals in 47 games. With changes likely in store for the Capitals' management and coaching staff, it's difficult to forecast Chimera's value heading into next season. His fantastic chemistry with Ward should be enough to keep him on the radar for drafts in deeper leagues regardless of how the offseason shakes out.

Caps Chimera Busts Slump With Three-Point Night

News: Jason Chimera busted out with a goal, two assists and a plus-3 rating in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Hurricanes.
Analysis: Jason Chimera had been mired in a slump over his past nine games, recording one point (a goal) and a minus-2 rating, but he broke out big time in this one. He now owns a new career high in points -- 41.

Points Trickling In Steadily For Caps' Chimera

News: Jason Chimera has supplied points in seven of his nine games in March for the Capitals.
Analysis: While Jason Chimera is averaging almost three shots per game this month and has seen his productivity increase accordingly, fantasy owners should be cautioned not to invest too much of their free agent bidding budget on the forward. We saw Chimera enjoy a similar scoring binge in late October and early November, only for his offense to take a nosedive thereafter. His latest scoring surge could very well come to an end quickly.

Three-Point Game For Caps' Chimera

News: Jason Chimera notched a goal and two assists in Sunday's 6-5 victory over the Red Wings.
Analysis: Since going on a nine-point scoring binge across four games in late October and early November, Jason Chimera's production has generally been more muted, but it looks like he could be starting to pay dividends again for those who might have stuck with him. He also supplied a goal in Friday's loss to Detroit, and has a respectable 29 points in 56 games on the season.

Chimera Nets 11th Goal Friday

News: Jason Chimera scored his 11th goal of the season during Friday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Red Wings on Friday.
Analysis: Jason Chimera opened the scoring on the night with a power-play goal late in the opening period. He now has two goals and an assist in his last five games and has 11 goals and 15 assists on the season.

Chimera On Board For Caps

News: Jason Chimera scored Washington's only goal in Friday's 2-1 loss to New Jersey, his first goal in three games.
Analysis: Jason Chimera hit the double-digit goal mark for the Caps Friday with a deft deflection close to the crease. He's going to see scoring chances for Washington but likely won't light up the scoreboard.

Capitals' Chimera Promoted To Second Line

News: Jason Chimera skated on the Capitals' second line with Mikhail Grabovski and Troy Brouwer during Saturday's practice, Monumental Network's Mike Vogel reports.
Analysis: The Capitals underwent some extensive line juggling during Friday night's embarrassing 5-1 defeat at the hands of Columbus. While getting promoted to the second line is usually a good thing, Jason Chimera had great chemistry with Joel Ward on the the third line for much of the season. How the two respond to the change will be seen when the Capitals take on the Rangers on Sunday afternoon. It's worth noting that Chimera played well with Grabovski earlier in the season, so he has some upside if this unit can stay together for a while.

Career Season For Caps' Chimera?

News: Jason Chimera has 20 points (7G, 13A) in 41 games so far this season, and is on pace to crack the 40-point plateau for the first time in his career.
Analysis: Jason Chimera has developed some real chemistry playing with Joel Ward and Martin Erat on the Caps' third line this year, and the results are showing. As a checking line guy, he still does not see any real time on the power play, but his overall minutes are up to roughly 15½ per game, a full three minutes more than last season. Snap him up if you are in a deeper fantasy format and in need of scoring help.

Chimera Signs To Stay With Caps

News: Jason Chimera signed a $4 million, two-year contract extension with the Capitals on Friday, the Associated Press reports. Chimera will receive $2 million each season in 2014-15 and 2015-16.
Analysis: Jason Chimera is a role-playing journeyman but he has a decent all-around game and this seems like a good move by the Caps to maintain some stability. He is, however, scoring at a faster clip than usual this season with 11 points in 16 games after putting up just 14 in 47 games last season.
